Here we go. I thought the title was apt as ds2 has morhed into a stroppy little horror overnight. His favourite expression at the moment is 'I cwoss with you, I sceam at you AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH' .

Happy Birthday ToddlerJabber and ToddlerEli .

DD is poorly again. I swear every bug in the vicinity has some kind of magnetic attraction to her . She has a bit of a temp, headache and earache today. I need to buy shares in Calpol and Medised I think.

Aoa, hotel is a very good idea - go for a posh one so you can have a vvvv hot, deep bath!

Castles you poor sausage, you. Fainting and spatone, you may as well be pg eh?! Well, sort of

Jabber, I'm glad the girls aren't having to move at this dreadful time, and that they are getting all of their godparents' attention. Thinking of you often, xx

dd1 still has temp of 39 every morning, so have started her on antibiotics in case that cough is not just viral

dd2 fell asleep in car en route to ENT bloke, and slept in my arms into his office: she scared the whole of the waiting room, adn the receptionist, so we got seen super fast and the consultant got first hand evidence of her apnoea/snoring/gasping/squeaking He said her tonsils are actually touching, and suggested removing them plus adenoids first thing in January - plus checking her larynx at the same time. dh is relieved (its a fixable problem, probably), but I feel and scared that she has to have an operation at all. I'll get to the relief eventually, I should think.

She has to spend a night on HDU afterwards too, because of her airway complications. I am not looking forward to that either, having spent a week there with her two years ago - maybe thats why I'm feeling shocked???

LenniEd · 03/12/2008 19:07

Eli - glad DD2 been seen and seems fixable. Can entirely understand your concerns though, and think you would prob feel the same without having been on HDU before. I would be terrified at the thought of DD having an operation, think it is a perfectly normal maternal reaction. Am sure she is in safe hands though, and it is definitely positive that they are going to get moving on things so quickly. This may well be the light at the end of the proverbial tunnel for you.

OOI I have no adenoids, not sure why, but was prob around the same age when they were removed. My tonsils touch my tongue when I am ill - horrible sensation, and very much wish they had removed them when they removed my adenoids as it isn't a nice operation when you get older so I never had it despite years of recurrent tonsilitis when I was a teenager.

Read a bit of DSis' 'Child of our Time' book last night about speech. Really reassured me that they all end up about the same by age 5 on communication, although the earlier talkers retained a larger vocab. It also said that those toddlers that were stronger and more active at 2 were more likely to be sporty as they grew older. Am going to try and encourage DD to take up a sport - wish I was more inclined towards activity, I only really enjoy walking and swimming and don't do enough of either.

Right, better go and assist DH with bedtime, sounds like it is going badly.

LenniEd · 03/12/2008 21:41

Thank you Margo will be in touch on FB in morning, off for an early night

jabberwocky · 04/12/2008 02:18

Today was a better day, castles, thanks. And you're definitely not pg?

eli, it sounds like getting out the tonsils and adenoids will make a huge difference. That will also prevent some facial anomalies that can come from mouth breathing at night Ex-h was pediatric dentist so heard a lot about things like this. LenniEd is right it is much better to go ahead and remove both at the same time and generally if one is a problem then they both are.

AnneOfAvonlea · 04/12/2008 07:59

eli - i had tonsils and adenoids out - must have been about 5. i can see why you are worried but it helped me immensely.

lennied - i have the coot book. must dig it out

Elibean · 04/12/2008 12:48

Thanks guys, I know its the right thing to do, just....well, you know.

Lennied, glad you were reassured - I wish I could meet your dd because a) it would be fun and b) maybe I could add to the reassurance! How did bed time go?

Jabber, here's to many better days...

I wonder if dd1 has 'real' flu? 39 this morning again, 5th morning in a row. Though starting to have big cold, so maybe its on its way out.

MaHumbug · 04/12/2008 13:09

Eli - my dad's under a sleep clinic for hs sleep apnoea- has to wear a wrist thing to check carbon diox levels

I must be worse to deal with a little one with breathing problems.

Jabber - it was touching to hear so many people turned up to see your friends off. It shows how many peoples lives they influenced for the better. There will be a time for your DH to say a goodbye to them which is fitting, he just needs time to think how best to celebrate their lives.

Nice to see you back Magnolia, you were missed. x

castlesintheair · 04/12/2008 13:24

It will be ok Eli. They only do stuff that is necessary which is why they didn't slice the back of DS's head off and turn it around 180 degrees

Lennied, don't read parenting manuals or google stuff on the internet. Speak to MN instead

Glad it is getting better Jabber. It's an old cliche but time ...

Elibean · 04/12/2008 13:30

Castles what?!?? Not seriously, or any where near, surely?!?

LenniEd · 04/12/2008 13:44

Happy Birthday Margo!

castles - thank you for reminding me, got a bit carried away there. and at DS... tell us more...

DD sporting very rosy little chapped cheeks - poor soul. Too much snow time today. I'm going to have to send DH out to finish the snowman, just have to have a photo of her next to it before it all melts/goes dark.

Bedtime rescued Eli - DD is such a routine junkie for bedtime, she has to have all her bears arranged how she wants them and get herself snuggled down the duvet. DH tries to rush her and ends in chaos. It's her only routine in a hectic existence so I indulge her with it. She's such an adaptable little girl and puts up with no two days being the same so I think bedtime is her little oasis of calm.

Hope the bugs are on their way out too - real flu or not. I'd like you to meet DD too

I'm bloody knackered too. Just had to get that bit out.

LenniEd · 04/12/2008 14:03

Oh, and AQ, what are your plans for DS for Sat? Hope the DTs are treating you well at the moment

jabberwocky · 04/12/2008 15:14

eww, castles, I knew it was a gruesome prospect.

I have gotten my great-nephew (gawd that makes me feel old) a dou-dou for Christmas. Embarrassing question though - how do you pronounce that?

Elibean · 04/12/2008 15:19

d-oo d-oo but try not to put any stress on the oo sound, its sort of a pure ooooo as in owl's hoot

Indith, can you say that better please?!

(come to think of it, haven't seen Indith for a bit....)

I'm officially thick: who is MaHumbug?!

LenniEd · 04/12/2008 16:35

I was assuming it was Margo in Xmas fancy dress already

Oh, I never can think of an xmas name. Hmmmm

MaHumbug · 04/12/2008 20:24

Yes it's me Margo! I'm trying to be early with the whole Xmas debacle. Has your package arrived Lennied? If not today then I'd expect it tomorrow if it went 1st class.

I've not opened any birthday cards this year, I'm saving them for June. But I'm semi-celebrating (I had a birthday cake) - I am her on my own, kids in bed, dh working and a pile of laundry to wash. So it's just as well that I'm saving my b'day celebrations until June!

Happy birthday Castles and Mag jnrs.

LenniEd · 04/12/2008 21:15

Margo - have messaged you on FB. They did arrive thank you - much appreciated.

Glad you are enjoying your half-year birthday - are you just keeping your cards until June then you might be missing out on something exciting in them!

Have added some pics of DD in the snow to the FB group. She has enjoyed herself, shame I'm bloody knackered!

No Indith still eh, well I'm almost certain we'd have heard from AQ if she's gone and sprogged, but you never know... here we go again I may laugh now but I've got it all coming soon!

Wonderful explanation of dou-dou Eli, does that mean noo-noo should be spelt nou-nou? Talking of which, DD has given hers up. Her own choice, just stopped asking for it, and so I've chucked them just in case she changes her mind.

accessorizequeen · 04/12/2008 21:42

Hullo all, just briefly checking in before I retire to bed! Jabber, how're you and dh doing? Castles, getting some psychotherapy in the new year an excellent idea I think, I've had some and it's really helped. But sorry you're feeling tired & low . Eli it's great that you finally have a solution for dd2, but totally understand how you would feel about surgery. Won't it be lovely though when she's at home again having a night in bed with no problems breathing?

Haven't heard from indith, perhaps I should send a text just in case she's missed me off her texting announce list (I did ask if I was on it!)?! She will be 38 weeks now I think.

Two more babies to look forward to, how delicious! Mine are so lovely at the mo', really sweet, dd is cooing esp at her dad who's beside himself with joy and ds3 just getting happier and perkier with every day. They slept 8 hours (at the same time!!) last night, which is fab fab fab

I think I've got xmas & birthdays sorted but then I think that every year and have a last minute panic when realised i have another 17 things to get/do!

castlesintheair · 04/12/2008 22:34

Hullo AQ, is that Hull speak Sorry! Saw a lovely piccy on FB. You look great! Well done for doing so well!!

Sooooooooo, has Indith had it ?????

Amapoleon · 04/12/2008 23:08

Yes the facebook photos are lovely. Well done from me too!

Indith · 05/12/2008 08:02

Hate to let you all down but no, dc2 still in situ. Just going mad as ds is coughing/snotty/crabby/non sleeping again after just 3 nights of actual sleep. MN time a little limited.

Jabber I'm so glad the funeral has helped and that the girls have loving people there for them.

Eli, scary but good. Hopefully it will fix the problem and she is so little that she'll forget all about it soon enough.

Lennied did you et a snowman pic? Am off to put up of ds and his snowman

Hmmm, crashing followed by "uhoh".......

LenniEd · 05/12/2008 08:59

Yep - snowman and DD are mine Indith - love the ones of DS, how cute is his hair?

And AQ, you look completely blissed out in that pic, it is lovely. I want one

Indith · 05/12/2008 12:27

Yeah I noticed when I went to put them on, your snowman beats ours

castlesintheair · 05/12/2008 12:43

Eli, just spoke to my friend whose DS had sleep aponea/floppy larynx as well and had adenoids & tonsils out. It has transformed him, and all of their lives. Definitely worth it in her opinion.

Elibean · 05/12/2008 13:21

Thanks Castles, that helps a lot too

She was soo bad last night that dh actually rang consultant's secretary to see how much/if it would be possible to do sooner, privately. Only date is day before dd1's birthday party, 6 days before Xmas, and costs at least three arms and a leg (due to HDU bed) so we'll gasp on till January...

Indith, had a feeling you might still be bump-laden! Hope ds is better soon, this season is the pits - at least, if you didn't have snowmen it would be

Not had moment to get on FB, but look forwrad to it. Missed last course day yesterday, waaah, but good news is GP said today (after dd1 woke with 39 for 5/6th day) its definitely flu. So will go in a few days, and dd2 has been immunized, phew.

Elibean · 05/12/2008 13:22

Am in charge of Santa's grotto at dd1's school fair this afternoon, yikes, never thought wearing Elf hat and doing queue control in freezing conditions would sound like the Great Escape!!
