it worked, I trust

how are you today, Butterfly?

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 12/12/2008 10:03

Ah, foxy, I tried making that last year not realising that evaporated milk and condensed milk are NOT the same thing . Turned into nice truffles though once I rolled them in a bit of coco powder!

Ohforfoxsake · 12/12/2008 10:05

AREN'T THEY? I have two tins of Carnation in the cupboard, what's that?

What's the difference?

bollocksbuggeryandarse

Morning BTW

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 12/12/2008 10:20

Here foxy

I used the wrong one and it didn't set, but that could be for an number of reasons rather than the milk, Some fudge recipes require a sugar thermometer

NattyTurkeyAndEggnog · 12/12/2008 11:31

mmm i LOVE fudge, but i have never got round to buying a sugar thermometer, so havent had a chance to make it.
tescos finest fudge is AMAZING! yummy
guess where im going today

HaveYourselfAJammyLittleXmas · 12/12/2008 12:24

Afternoon Feeling "christmassy" now after after a musical morning singing lots of christmas tunes. So we had mince pies with lunch

Evap milk is thin, condensed is right thick is the obvious difference. Would certainly affect the fudge setting ability. I have a sugar thermometer but haven't used it yet. Must do soemthing about that soon! Planning a baking session tomorrow morning - xmas cake, mince pies and something for yummy pudding tomorrow night (my parents are coming for the weekend so thought I would make an effort). But before that I've got to do some serious tidying up and wrap a load of presents. Presents will be done in front of the TV with a glass (or three) of something tonight I think but now gotta get off my back side and go clean up!

HaveYourselfAJammyLittleXmas · 12/12/2008 15:34

We have just watched The Snowman DVD while Jamlet painted green glitter paint in "artistic" splodges on some cards. When dry we will stick on some sparkly mini pompoms and they will do as cards for s couple of her friends and our neighbours as I have used up all the cards I made.

Wonder what my chances are of DH getting decorations out of the loft later?

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 15:36

condensed milk is the thick gooey sweet stuff, evaporated milk is the thin creamy stuff that my gran used to put in coffee

One of my enduring childhood memories is sitting with my dad and sister eating condensed milk straight out of the tin! We were supposed to be making tablet (a scottish delicacy; like a hard fudge and almost pure sugar, my teeth are on edge just thinking about it) but my dad wanted us to try it first and we sort of just ate the lot

I bought a dress and some knee high boots today. I look like a blob in the dress but I'm fed up of trousers either falling down or cutting me in half.

I also had a paddy at DH in the street and threw my shopping bags at his feet and stomped off to the refrain of him shouting "well I'm not picking them up". He did though.

HaveYourselfAJammyLittleXmas · 12/12/2008 16:48

Hope you didn't have anything breakable in your bags, Daisy.

Sputnik · 12/12/2008 17:58

Nice about the boots and dress Daisy
I decided to invest in a spanx slip thing to hold everthing in, otherwise I'd probably never wear a dress again It hasn't arrived yet but I have high hopes for it.

Right, I have been making xmas decorations with my DD, can any of you crafty types help me on my thread here

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 18:02

My belly is so floppy still that my spanx dig in to my waist and then roll down to under my overhang....I'm going to need a bigger size . They do work, but they give you an "old lady" seamless bum and are definite passion killers. DH shudders when he sees mine.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 18:07

oh, a slip...I've got the pants things that come down to mid thigh. Might look at a slip thing...

but I think I might need one of these

Sputnik · 12/12/2008 18:09

Oh Daisy, I see you already have

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 18:11

at the price of the spanx slips. The dress only cost £25!

Can I wear my all body elastic bandage I got from the physio instead?

Sputnik · 12/12/2008 18:13

I have a 20% off code for figleaves, if you're interested. Just put in "sorry" at the checkout.

Sputnik · 12/12/2008 18:19

True it's expensive, but I figured that it would allow me to wear some of the many items in my wardrobe that I wouldn't otherwise, so actually quite cost-effective.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 18:20

will have a look at figleaves and see what other shapewear is available. Of course if I stopped eating a big bag of minstrels and a half pound bag of midget gems a day I might not need the shapewear

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 18:21

thanks for the code.

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 12/12/2008 19:47

Hello everyone

My belly isn't floppy atm, it feels like its going to burst....but it won't be long

Condensed milk is what is used for the caramel in chocolate caramel shortbread . Evaporated milk is the thin stuff my mum used to put over fruit salad out of a tin, put into a flan case with a sachet of gelatine over it ....or as Daisy said, in your coffee

Sputnik · 12/12/2008 20:10

OOh caramel shortbread was my speciality, about 25 years ago [drool]

Ohforfoxsake · 12/12/2008 20:20

TKMaxx for big knickers. Great range, can get something from your shoulders to your knees in there. And cheap too.

Brilliant.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 12/12/2008 20:24

drools over caramel shortbread. I need to find a recipe for a gluten free version.

My mission is to lose my 40inch waist before I'm 40

I need to do some serious core stability exercises. The SPD I had when pregnant has come back to bite me and I have been in agony for the last couple of days. I've had a dull ache since DS was born, but put that down to the trauma. It has been getting steadily worse and then I seized up completely last night. I'm at the physio on Monday for my wee small issue so will have a chat with them about the SPD. I thought it was meant to go after the baby was born? Maybe the BF hormones are keeping things a bit springy?

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 12/12/2008 20:34

I'll give you a larf....my knickers are so big atm that it was mid morning before I realised they were on back to front

Sputnik · 12/12/2008 21:21

Norty
I had very sore hip for ages after DS was born, in fact they still are now if I don't exercise for a while.

Speaking of which, Foxy, are you still going to the gym at 6 every morning?
