TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 10/12/2008 20:11

I shall hunt you down butterfly

fairy.....I shall be 40 in less than eight weeks; so a twilight of knitting looms ahead of me

HaveYourselfAJammyLittleXmas · 10/12/2008 20:19

Ah knitting and crochet.

I don't knit, and I did teach myself to crochet a bit, but it's so long ago I have forgotten. Maybe in a few more years I will try again?

Working going tits-up tonight so having a 5 minute sanity break from it before I throw a laptop out of the window or something.

My gran taught me to knit when I was 12 (or maybe younger I can't remember) and also to crochet, but I can only do basic stuff. I have tension ishoos. I used to knit whole jumpers, but these days can't finish anything. Last finished projects were a blanket for DD that came out too small and a cardigan and hat for a friends baby last December. I have been promising DS1 a jumper for years and have been trying to knit a traditional fishing gansey for DH for 6 years (think I might have mentioned that before...see...tis old age)

knitting is definately having a renaissance but yarn is soooo expensive these days that big projects put me off as I can buy it cheaper. Mind you, it's more original if you do it yourself. I'd love some knitting pattern software and a knitting machine.

NattyTurkeyAndEggnog · 10/12/2008 21:30

yeah i am a knitter myself, i LOVE it i taught myself from a book when i was about 13.my nan helped with my tension christmas day lol!

i am getting a sewing machine from my DH this year for christmas how sad is that? i want a kitting machine as well lol, then i can make all my own clothes
planning to make bedding for the kids as they will all sharing a room and matching unisex bedding that will fit a single, toddler bed and cot is hard to find and ever so expensive so im just gonna get material and make some. oh and matching curtains!

we find out about the house hopefully tomorrow or friday so will let you all know as soon as i know

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 10/12/2008 21:37

I can't sew for toffee natty, so am of your sewing machine. I did woodwork and metalwork at school rather than home economics so never learnt, even though my big sis worked in a fabric shop, had an old pedal operated singer and used to make clothes for me and my other sister. the only thing I ever mastered was pin cushions from scraps of material

still, it's never too late to learn is it?

I'd like a knitting machine so I can knit and sell baby legs and wooly wraps.

FrazzledFairyFay · 10/12/2008 21:49

I have no problem with knitting, I just don't want to lose everyone to a knitting forum - just think of all the high-brow conversation you'd be missing

FrazzledFairyFay · 10/12/2008 22:02

I have finally managed to add some pics to facebook, of anyone's interested

I have a bag in my basket at clarks......the wrath of DH is stopping me from clicking proceed. give me the courage of my convictions......

I can't even sneak it in and pretend I've had it for ages as we had a clear out ages ago and he was there when I went through my bag collection and trimmed it down a bit.

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 10/12/2008 22:22

lovely photos fairy.....I love DD's wild hair (although I bet it's a bugger to comb!)

We have the same oilskin tablecloth, but in cream with pink dots!!

TheTwelveDAISYOfChristmas · 10/12/2008 22:23

night xx

HaveYourselfAJammyLittleXmas · 10/12/2008 22:32

Lovely pics Fairy.
Right, I have failed to write any Xmas cards tonight, but have helped DH find stuff to buy for his Dad for Xmas. And now I am off. Good night

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 11/12/2008 08:55

Morning,

I can just about knit. My MIL taught me and I also follow a book. I've just knitted a scarf for my dad which is the first proper thing I have knitted and somehow one end is twice as wide as the beginning!

I've been sewing forever. I'm not very neat or anything, but I can do it. I would love to do a dress making course. I have my mum's sewing machine but have never used it as she has lost the instructions and it scares me!

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 11/12/2008 08:59

I have got a bunch of mummy friends coming over for the first time in ages today and am going to bake like a maniac. I'm making yoghurt cake, sugar free banana bread and wholemeal cheesy scones. Better get a move on!

ImDreamingOfANortyXmas · 11/12/2008 09:56

Morning

Lunch sounds lovely Bumper....

Photos are great Fairy....haven't they grown.

Its freezing here today....off for some readybrek I think

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 11/12/2008 11:00

Yoghurt cake: check - cooling on the rack
Banana loaf: check - in the over
Scones: will do those when DD wakes up as the whizzer will disturb her

And am going to a Christmas party as my yoga studio later so might make flap jack too. Phew! I'm a baking machine

HellHathNoFury · 11/12/2008 11:18
