OK here we are ladies!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Clara I'll take your dd2, sounds like ds' normal temperament so I'm pretty skilled at dealing with it by now, and who knows, they might prove good company for each other and be happier for it

Insy my two are the same, except it is ds who hurts dd cos he is stronger and fatter than she is. I just leave them to it most of the time, what doesn't kill them will make them stronger (or something). I do love the 18 month gap now though.

BT sounds tough, not least because I find it hard to even stay up to 10pm at the moment let alone be on the phone til then

Am looking forward to the clock change, I did think I'd start to feel more human as ds' 5am start would be 6...but he has now started waking at 4.30 so it's unlikely!

claireybee · 25/03/2009 12:09

Saw GP yesterday, he thinks I have an ulcer so have meds for that. If they don't work then have to go back and have blood test for thyroid and diabetes. DD made me laugh...I had to lie down so he could examine my tummy and afterwards she said "my brother Douggie is here with me now mummy. He's not in your tummy now is he? So why do you have to lie down at the doctors?"

Bless her, she was quite confused!

Doctorskidaddle · 25/03/2009 16:33

lol clairey at your DD. My DD said to me a few days ago 'mummy, when mummies have a baby in their tummy, how do they come out? Do they come out of your fanny?' - turns out DH told her this (including inappropriate termininology! She then asked me later how babies got inside their mummy's tummy. Never thought I would do it but i gave her the old 'mummy and daddy have a special cuddle, and daddy puts a seed into mummy's tummy' line but she is a bit young for an unedited description, isn't she?

insy TWELVE WEEKS???? Can't believe the time has gone so quickly ! How are you feeling?

My DD and DS were as you describe about 6 months ago which makes sense as my DD is about that much older than your DS1. I also found it utterly exhausting but it did pass so hang on in there

clara at your tomboy DD1. That's what I always imagined I'd have as I have always been a complete tomboy. If you'd told me when I was pg that my daughter would tantrum if I tried to dress her in anything other than pink I think I would have cried!

DH and I are trying to decide whether to have baby no.3. I am really torn but I think I do. Any mothers of three ahve any words of wisdom for me?

claireybee · 25/03/2009 17:02

skid
Dh will not hear of another

lol at the "special cuddle" were you cringing as you said it

BouncingTurtle · 25/03/2009 17:42

Oh Clairey - poor you and your ulcer! Hope the meds work!

Insy - wow 12 weeks! Have you got your bag packed - actually you are probably laidback enough by now having been through it before you'll sort it out when in labour lol

claraquack · 25/03/2009 20:25

Skid - am now your friend on Facebook, lovely to see your pics - Milo looks so different from your dd doesn't he? Both gorgeous. I laughed at the pic of your dd "breastfeeding" her dolly as I have one of my dd1 doing exactly the same! The poor doll is now forgotten but has been resurrected by dd2, who has started putting her on the potty!

Clairey - hope you're ok, I'm not sure how you get an ulcer - is it stress???

buzzybee · 26/03/2009 07:48

Hey thanks for all your comments on my FB photos! Did any of you check out the video of DD playing the keyboard? Cute if I say so myself!

Still CAN not get used to who's who with real names though, isn't that weird. Its almost like I have to get to know you all over again.

Had some bad/useful news this week. DD1 has been diagnosed with Auditory Processing Disorder. Am rather burying my head in the sand as I'm sure there's mega threads on MN about this, haven't dared look. Basically means she finds it quite hard to process instructions and has a tendency to zone out in a classroom situation. The upside is that because she has a very high IQ she basically self-teaches herself things like reading. However that's not going to work for everything - e.g. she's pretty average at maths. But at least we know now and have been given some exercises to work with her on.

insywinsyspider · 26/03/2009 09:58

skid lol at having to have the baby converstaion with dd, ds1 is 2yr9mo and he's announced that the baby in my tummy was a present from daddy and its going to come out of my bottom but not till he's had his birthday - dh and I are very confused as neither of us has had the converstaion with him, I can only assume its come from nursery, at special cuddle!

Thanks for advice re fighting, I think all I can do is wait it out, I really don't know what else to try but am fed up at refereeing

28 wks preg today and desperate to meet baby, would love to have a girl and truely fed up of family telling me it'll be a boy - they don't know anymore than I do - and that they don't like the name edward when quite frankly they've named their children and we should have a chance to name ours the names we like, its a good tradional name too, you wouldn't think it would be contraversional

just fed up generally today, dh not back till tomorrow and I had terrible night with boys, ds1 doesn't deal well with being tired and just whinged and shouted this morning which was all so unnecessary, I'd been up most of night with ds2 (teething) and then ds1 woke up at 5am, he will stay in bed but complains loudly about it so I don't get anymore sleep, I was a horrible shouty mum this morning so basically the only time I've had with them today has been crap

clara sorry to hear about ulcer but hope you can get meds soon and feel better, do they know whats caused it?

buzzy it is good news that they picked up the APD for your dd, I'm dyslexic and I know its not the same thing but I didn't get it noticed till senior school and it makes such a difference to have it noticed and be able to do something about it, I still have to work at it now but at least I know what the 'problem' is and its less frustrating, there will be a learning style that suits your dd better, unfortunently it might not be the one the school system uses
I'm also finding fb a little weird, I had images in my head about what you all looked like!

BouncingTurtle · 26/03/2009 10:14

Insy - Edward is a great name! Stick to your guns!!

Buzzy - sorry to hear about your dd1's diagnosis but at least you'll know how to work with it. Did you know Albert Einstein was thought to have Asperger's? Who knows what your brilliant dd could achieve

claraquack · 26/03/2009 10:47

Help I don't know who anyone is in the mn group - I have sent a request to be friends with those I can work out but don't want to send it to others in case they have no idea who I am!! Insy - which one is you???? Buzzy I worked you out from being in NZ! And BT I recognise you from a profile pic....

Insy - Edward is a great name, it's my nephews name and I particularly like it shortened to Eddie or Ed. Don't listen to anyone elses opinions - it's your baby. Have you got a girls name sorted as well???

claireybee · 26/03/2009 12:04

Facebook is wierd isn't it, I also do the building up an image thing in my head and then struggle to match my image of people with the real thing

Buzzy your dd's are both very like you though.

Insy stick to your guns, Edward is a great name and I think the Bear NN you mentioned before is very cute. FWIW everyone in my family laughed when dd was calling my bump Douggie and said there's no way you can actually call a baby Douggie but now he is here not one of them refers to or even thinks of him as anything else.

Buzzy your dd1 sounds a lot like me (maybe it is an april 4th birthday thing!)although I was never diagnosed with anything. I always used to get in trouble because I was completely away with the fairies in class but then I'd read the textbooks and learn things that way (even maths and science). TBH it wasn't really a problem, other than frustrating my teachers, until degree level where I couldn't teach myself stuff from books any more. Obviously it isn't the same as your dd but the way I see it a diagnosis is always a good thing because you can then work on getting help for her. (I still do the zoning out thing now if I'm somewhere like a party or toddler group and also did it in most work meetings )

No idea what caused the ulcer, my appointment was at the end of the day and gp was running an hour late so was really rushing through people and didn't really go into detail. I don't have any of the symptoms I would have associated with an ulcer (stomach pain, heartburn etc) but have been feeling constantly starving and getting dizzy as if I need to eat (even when I have just eaten). The tablets are making me soooooo sleepy, am finding it hard to do anything!

Er, and obviously the last line of my previous post was meant to be a question so here, have the question mark. ?

insywinsyspider · 26/03/2009 13:25

clara I'll request you to be my friend (if I can work out who you are!) and the you'll know who I am

You are all so right Edward is a lovely name just finished a book were main character is called Edward so comppletely sold - I love all the niccknames but would go for Bear and then he could change it if wanted when older

Struggling for girls names, at moment Lyra but since I've been convinced and convinced myself that I'm having a boy I just feel bit sad thinking bout possible girls names

clairey sorry I directed last comment to clara re your ulcer thanks for question mark!

where is arcadie? she's not helping the mission to get the message count up

Arcadie · 26/03/2009 17:51

Sorry sorry - have been asking friends to keep me accountable on not MNing of FBing whilst DCs are up and about. hence not nearly as many posts!!!!

Arcadie · 26/03/2009 17:52

Claireybee did you have a mental image of me as a tall blonde leggy ubermum...? Glad not to have disspelled the myth

buzzybee · 27/03/2009 07:48

You're all absolutely right, it is better to know. And have now requested a meeting with her teacher to discuss strategies like moving her closer to the front of class etc. I think it will help me hugely too as I have had a tendency to get quite frustrated with her for "not listening"!! Have also done a bit of a scan of other mums on MN for their experiences and almost universally they say how great it is to diagnose early - and most have also had their DD's ears tested for hearing loss and been at a loss to understand how it could have come back as perfect (as we did)...

Clara if you scroll down through the Dec 07 MN group on FB you'll find messages from most people stating their MN name. Which is all very well but I just forget 2 seconds later sorry! I do love seeing all the baby photos though.

Clairey I'd forgotten you shared the 4/4 Everyone says how much the DDs look like each other (and may be even more if DD2 sprouts curls when her hair thickens) which is ironic considering they have different fathers - so I guess my genes must be strong!!

Insy I love Edward / Bear too! If you like Lyra, maybe Lara? As in Dr Zhivago! DD1 has decided that we should all change our surname to McGregor - aka Mr McGregor in Peter Rabbit (Beatrix...get it?!) McGregor was my grandmother's name. What she really wants is for us all to have the same surname.

Doctorskidaddle · 27/03/2009 09:35

clairey - somehow I managed to miss the ulcer/thyroid thing - what a nightmare. Is it def an ulcer or do they still not know? Just asking because your symptpms sounds exactly like those of two friends who had overactive thyroids. Are you getting tests for that too?

It is really wierd seeing everyone's photos on facebook, isn't it? And btw those of you without any baby photos (clara!) well that's just not fair and put some on immediately!

buzzy - sorry to hear about your DD but I second what everyone has said about an early diagnosis/ The early the intervention the more successful it is.

insy - how annoying of your PIL with their unwanted comments. I really really want you to have a girl just to show them (and of course because I think you'd be really happy). If it's any consolation I also had a horrible day yesterday with the DC. Some days just go all wrong, don't they? I really thought I was going to flip and scream in DD's face but I managed to fall just short of that. Feel really bad now as she wasn't that naughty - it's just the constant whining and with Milo screaming from teething pain on top of that it can just become unbearble. Hmmm maybe three is not such a great idea afterall...

Doctorskidaddle · 27/03/2009 09:38

OMG clara, I have just looked at your facebook page and our DHs have the same name!!! Didn't we always say they were the same person? That is freaky!

BouncingTurtle · 27/03/2009 11:59

This is where we find out that Skid's & Claraq's DH are in FACT the same person in cunning disguises and has actually been living a double life lol

Arcadie · 27/03/2009 13:31

Well if the chap cuddling Claraquack and the guys in all Skid's facebook photos are their 2 DHs I think it's safe to assume 2 separate people. But weird to have the same name. really? First name and surname. Odd.

Beautiful DCs by the way Clara and Skid.....

Dying to know why skid BT and a few others chosen their MN handles. Is that an ABSOLUTE faux pas to ask for hints? Probably. sigh

Arcadie · 27/03/2009 13:32

Insy Balls to the lot of em. Edward a superb name. Lyra an awesome name. Maybe you're having sneakily hidden twins so that you can use both....

BouncingTurtle · 27/03/2009 13:38

Nowt very exciting about my name... I had a mummy type name when I first joined because I couldn't think of anything better!
But when we had the 1st scan for DS, Dh thought he looked like a turtle. Then on the second scan he looked like a bouncing one...

Hope that answers your question, Arcadie!

claireybee · 27/03/2009 13:41

Well I was most confused to find that Claraq was not, in fact, Clara Q (says she who is not Claire B as her name would suggest )

Erm BT was I think something to do with a scan pic? Is that right? No idea about anyone else! Oh Buzzybee, a famous NZ toy or something?

Skid he said he thought it was an ulcer because he could feel inflamation...but I was kind of expecting him to say thyroid because that is what everyone else said. He's the one with doctor qualifications though! Will give the tablets a while to start working and go back if no improvement, I do have practically every symptom on the overactive thyroid list but don't want to go in there as if I am telling him what he should diagnose me with iyswim...

claireybee · 27/03/2009 13:42

Cross post BT, hooray I was right! (what was your mummy name, g'wan I won't take the piss!)

claireybee · 27/03/2009 13:45

Oh and Skid, I have done that soooo many times to dd if she does something just mildly annoying on top of ds screaming...poor girl

Doctorskidaddle · 27/03/2009 15:24

well done clairey - that is impressive (remembering why BT is called BT) - and yes I agree it would be a ridiculous to go to the doc and tell him his diagnosis is wrong because a few completely unqualified people have said it sounds like an overactive thyroid!! Hope the pills help.

arcadie - well no, not surname, just first name so not really THAT amazing. But you don't get very many young (are our DHs still 'young'??) men with that name so I was quite surprised. I don't think the man in clara's pic is her DH anyway because I happen to know he is bald just like my DH. Imagine if we found out through facebook that our DH was living a secret double life... although if that is the case I have to say he spends WAY more time with me

oh and my name is just because I orginally had my actual name and then changed it to preserve me anonymity. And then I chose skiddaddle (spelled wrong inadvertently) just because i happened to have been trying to explain what it meant to my niece the day before - completely uninteresting I'm afraid
