Last night was ok too, he slept til 1am but did then wake at 5.20 and wouldn't settle until I fed him. Even then he woke up again at 6.30. DH however was snoring and grunting all night so I still didn't sleep!

Christmaswise, I started off pretty organised but have deteriorated! Still have a few gifts to buy but have done cards. Have no decorations up yet though. Cazzy get yourself to card factory, that's what I did last year and the cards were fine-it's just the battling to get in the shop that is the problem! My problem this year is that I decided to buy most gifts online so turn on the computer and start mneting, chatting on msn or facebook, don't get any housework done and the house gets worse by the day!

BT it was the Christmas party at toddler group yesterday. We were all meant to take a gift for our dc for santa to give them. But I forgot to take it Poor dd stood there watching all the other children get their names called and go up and get a gift and her turn never came . She kept saying "Is it my turn now?". I felt awful. After he'd handed out the presents some of the kids had their pictures taken with him and dd went up and stood looking expectantly at him and his present sack. I took her into the toilets and told her that he'd left her present at our house for her instead and she argued a little bit but then said he'd left it in her bedroom because it was too big for him to take to toddlers and was then fine for the rest of the party[phew]I was so grateful that we avoided a tantrum!

How bad a mother am I though???

Wizzcarol · 17/12/2008 14:18

Ooh Clairey that was a close one. Poor DD. I can see my future in that story somewhere.

Last night DS slept until 7.10 am. Good boy! Unfortunately I couldn't sleep for drunk DH's snoring and my mobile bleeping it's battery low warning. I couldn't locate the bleeding thing but just kept hearing the beep.

Only 2 1/2 more work days until Christmas. Am still expecting to get made redundant at any moment. That christmas dinner thing has made me really suspicious.

skidaddle · 17/12/2008 15:58

oh no clairey - that was close - thank God you sorted it in time!

thanks everyone for the congrats for Mr. Skidaddle

I am miserable - I am 35 years old today - middle age is upon me, and let's face it, it's not just because I'm tired all the time, this is just what I look like now!

Doesn't help that i treated myself to a new coat and when DH saw it, he said, 'oh is that from the charity shop?' (it wasn't), and then said, 'no, it's nice, it's just that it makes you look pregnant' - now WHY WHY WHY would he say that?!!

sorry no time to catch up properly - too much thesis writing to do - aim to finish mid-Jan when we're moving to Oxford (nursery all sorted, thanks for asking clairey)

sympathies to teething babies

BT - glad to hear things seem to be going well for you

hi everyone else

claireybaubles · 17/12/2008 16:08

Happy Birthday Skid

Sorry about the coat, bet it is a nice one really, men have no idea!

Wizzcarol · 17/12/2008 16:43

Skid - Happy birthday. I'm sure you look lovely. Don't worry about what your DH said. You're probably channeling some cool, trendy look that men just don't get. And don't say that about being 35. It really isn't that far away for me either.

Am now going back to my own personal little tired, fat, ugly day and paranoid day. Have been trying to do some shopping to make myself feel christmassy with a new top or something but I look like crap at the moment and everything looks rubbish and is expensive. Then boss's wife says 'I wouldn't spend too much money this year dear' and then I get all paranoid again about my job.

cazzybabs · 17/12/2008 16:56

wIZZ - THAT IS probably what her dh says to her..

Skid - what is the coat like

well today Evie has managed to cut her lip and now has an emormous egg on her forehead....I can'r even look at it. I feel quite ill - other people's injuries are fine, but my own children make me go all funny. I am such a bad mother.

I sm trying to go shopping, buit dd2 is on her 4th chnage of outfits.

Louise76 · 17/12/2008 21:25

Hello everyone

You've been really chatty over the last few days! I've had a quick skim but probably won't remember much of it!

suey - hope your poor dd gets better soon. about your flight to scotland!

congrats to your lo, wizz and to all the other little walkers! I worry that dd is really slow as a lot of the other babies I know that are around the same age doeverything sooner than her! She whizzes around the living room with her v-tech walker but doesn't seem keen to walk holding my or dh's hands. I'm sure she'll do it when she's ready.

It was dd's birthday on sat and we had a big party for her. It went surprisingly well as it was big crowd of people. I think dd is actually a bit of a show off as she was a wee angel all day and loved being the centre of attention in her party dress! She got so many lovely presents including loads of new toys!

Sorry can't remember whose lo was being picky with their food but dd has been like this for a couple of weeks. Since she had chickenpox and a bad cold she has been eating very little. I've been quite worried but you can't force her to eat. She's a stubborn little blighter at the best of times!! She's eaten everything I've given her yesterday and today but prior to that she's been living on yoghurts, porridge, raisins and toast! Hopefully she's over her fussy phase for now.

BouncingTinsel · 18/12/2008 10:31

Louise - ds is the same as your dd - will whizz round the room with his push along walker but not inclined to walk alone, he'll only walk holding both my hands IF he feels like it

Wizzcarol · 18/12/2008 15:26

DS didn't like walking whilst holding hands either, he just went straight from standing against things to walking by himself. He used to like walking with me holding his hands but he stopped wanting to do that as soon as he could pull himself up to standing.

skidaddle · 18/12/2008 17:37

hi everyone,

louise - DS isn't even close to walking. The average age that babies first walk is actually 14 months but for some reason everyone seems to think it is 12! So our babies are not even close to late walkers and won't be for a few more months.

wizz - you are so right - DH just doesn't get my hip and cool dress sense. Not that i should be surprised as he is rarely out of a fleece or some gortex item...

what on earth did your boss's wife mean by that comment? And I am that you weren't invited to the xmas do. I find that when I think I look rubbish in clothes post-baby i just don;t buy anything for months (thereby saving money and feeling virtuous) then when you do look and feel like your old self again you can have a bit of a splurge and not feel guilty having saved all that money... worth a go?

cazzy - poor DD3 - hope she is feeling OK now.

DS is also ill - has an ear infection. He has been ill for about a week but we just put it down to teething. Then DH took him for his injections and they wouldn't give them to him because he had a temperature - turned out it was 40.8! So sent straight to the doc who gave him some ABs. Feel like such a neglectful parent. We would never have done that with our PFB

cazzybabs · 18/12/2008 19:29

The problem with my early walker is no-one has told her they don't do shoes in her size...she cannot wait to walk outside, but it sooo diddy shoes are still far tooooo big

Louise76 · 18/12/2008 21:45

Hi

Thanks skid - I'm just being my usual paranoid inexperienced mum about dd's walking!! I had actually read somewhere that most babies don't walk until they are over a year old. My mum always makes me feel better by reminding me that my sister didn't start walking until she was 17 mths old!!! . Two of the babies that I see a lot and are a similar age to dd started walking at 10 months so she seems a bit slow even though she's not really!

claireybaubles · 19/12/2008 11:21

Cazzy I had the same problem with dd, when she started walking even a size 2 was massive on her. Luckily it was summer so she just wore canvas shoes and shooshoos for a few months until she fitted shoes. DS is already a 3.5 which is bigger than dd was when ds was born!

Louise definitely don't worry about your dd walking, my friend's dd was 17 months before she walked but went straight to proper walking not toddling so as soon as she started walking was at the same stage as dd and the others that had walked earlier.

Sleep was shite last night, the night before had been really good with ds going through til 4am then back til 7.30. Last night he woke at 1am, wouldn't settle til I fed him (ok I probably didn't try for that long because I was falling asleep leaning over the cot but he was really restless and I just got the feeling he wasn't going to)then just kept waking constantly. Eventually I got so desperate that at 4 I gave him some medised but even then he didn't settle til 5 then woke again at 6.15 . He is teething so maybe it is a temporary hitch in the path to good sleeping [hopeful]

claireybaubles · 19/12/2008 11:24

Wizz I would be paranoid too with all that but hopefully we are reading too much into it and it is all perfectly innocent and you'll still have a job after xmas. Even if they were making you redundant your boss' wife shouldn't have said anything-hasn't she heard of tact??

cazzybabs · 19/12/2008 11:37

what are you LOs getting for Xmas...I have Evie a thing she can push and it makes a noise...Grace had a suck on a stick that she could push but the bloody thing would never stay on it sstick and so I binned it and bought another one...my bit for the global economy and not being green .

Evie is the cuddliest of all my three...yesterday she kept getting books and bringing them to me and sitting herself on my lap and demanding I read them to her by putting my hand on the book. it was soo funny

Wizzcarol · 19/12/2008 12:43

Clairey - not really giving DS much for christmas, he has loads of toys and he is only really interested in his wooden train. I have bought him a small present, a peg toy cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-WOODEN-TOY-PUNCH-HAMMER-THE-PEG-GAME-COLOURFULL_W0QQitemZ220332100953QQcmdZViewIt emQQptZUKToysPreSchoolRL?hash=item220332100953&trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A2% 7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 . I can remember liking these when I was little.

skidaddle · 19/12/2008 13:51

DS is getting a grobag for xmas - lucky boy! I'm sure he will be deeply grateful

He's also getting a stocking just because DD is getting one and we have to be fair but it's mostly raisins and fruit with a couple of toys.

clairey - I had crap sleep last night - about 6 wakings and fed him every time. I just have no willpower, especialy when he's ill, poor little mite. I find that I always have an excuse for why he's waking and once whatever it is is over THEN he'll sleep through the night... wonder how long i can keep on deluding myself...

I also have a titchy DD and a big DS. DD was wearing the fleece that DS got for his birthday today - size 12-18 months and she is 3.2! Quite like her being little though - makes her all the cuter

claireybaubles · 19/12/2008 14:12

I also have no willpower Skid, ah well, they'll sleep through one day. I just keep reminding myself that dd was a bad sleeper too and now she is fantastic!

Stockings, my kids have ITNG squashy washys, toothbrushes, a magic flannel, stickers, some cadburys santa's friends biscuits, a Lindt santa, a satsuma and a shiny coin. So basically chocolate and bath stuff. Even their main presents are crap, dd has a dress and ds has a teddy bear that he picked up at the garden centre (I bloody hate teddy bears too!). I had got ds something else but he was given it for his birthday. Had such a hard time thinking of anything to get them this year, our house already looks like a toy and book shop!

claraquistmas · 19/12/2008 21:28

Hi everyone. I have been living in the twilight zone for the past couple of days with a really bad bout of flu. It completely knocked me sideways. It is the most ill I have been since having children and DH has had to take time off work as there is no way I could look after the dc's. I feel slightly better this evening so I am really hoping I will be on the mend tomorrow.

Dd2 is getting a tricycle for Christmas. Dd1 is getting roller skates. That wll be us down A and E on Christmas morning then! I have bought a mix of little toys, books, chocolate coins etc for their stockings. I think dd2 would have been very put out if she didn't get one - she basically wants everything her sister has.

buzzybee · 20/12/2008 02:59

Hi, thought I'd drop by to say HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you all from down under!!

Actually the weather forecast here for Xmas Day looks like rain which is not so good...

Bea has just cut her first molar (tooth #9) which was a bit of a marathon effort not enjoyed by anyone.

She will be 1 on Dec 30 but we will be away so no party here - maybe later in Jan, we'll see. She's furniture surfing but no steps.

Bit of a thing about clambering up me and whacking me in the face which I'm not too keen on!! My mother tells me its a phase.

I've decided to try and expose her to as many tastes and flavours as possible from now on. It's very easy just to feed bland mushy stuff but at this age you can get them to try things - at 2 they'll just refuse!

Now off work for 2 weeks until 5 Jan. Creche also closed so its a chance for Bea to build up a bit of immunity again away from other kids. She will miss them though as she's a real social animal (not like DD1!)

BouncingTinsel · 21/12/2008 19:52

Just back from visiting my mum for a few days, come back armed with yet more presents!
Been to see my friend as well who is due beginning of April, she has a lovely bump. Have told her off now as she was complaining that she can't walk as far as she used to and do other things she used to! I reminded her that she is carrying some extra weight she isn't used to and that she is using extra calories growing her lo! She is a dental nurse at a very busing practice and I don't think she is getting enough opportunuties to have have a sit down as she is on her feet all day, no wonder she is knackered!!
Insy - how are you feeling?

Buzzy - hi!!

Claraq - poor you, you hope you recovered, glad your DH was able to take some time off to look after you and the dds.

Clairey - I too have ickle ds!

Cazzy - awwwww your dd sounds so cute! I hope her head gets better soon, it is always awful when they hurt themselves!

Louise - friend of mines' dd is only just walking and she is nearly 2!

Wizz - that peg thing looks great!

insywinsyspider · 22/12/2008 08:48

Hello - just about getting back to normal, we cancelled seeing all family this weekend so we didn't pass on the lurgy and I didn't take ds1 to his first nativity, he was supposed to be a shepherd, I got his costume out to take down in case any other lo needed it and he insisted on wearing it for most of the day, I know he's only 2 and prob doesn't get it but he loves dressing up and think he would have enjoyed taking part - I've also taught him how to sign 'away in a manger' but we haven't been to any carols at all this year which means I feel even less festive than before but I did feel the need to tidy the house for the first time this week which is a sure sign I'm on the mend

very up and down here still, boys had much better couple of hours at nursery on Fri although ds1 having loads of accidents at moment which adds to the guilt of me unsettling him by being at work, I won 250 pounds worth of toys in MN competition! so have split them all up as presents and kept some of the older ones for ds's later in the year and having bathroom re tiled today so it'll look lovely for christmas (was meant to be done weeks ago but tiles arrived on sat and bloke said he could squeeze us in before xmas)

cazzy - we've got ds's joint pressie of toy garage as ds2 loves cars (anything with wheels) he seems drawn to the big boys toys - I've asked relatives for duplo as they can both play with that safely (in laws insist ds1 is ready for lego but I can't cope with taking it out of ds2's mouth all the time)

Toby took his first steps on Sunday - he's had a go before but was doing 4-5 in a row consistently on sun, dh left me in bed for a nap and took him for his first shoes, we seem to have a huge child, he's only 75th%ile but already size 5 shoes, apparently they don't do cruisers any bigger!

clara - poor you and I think twightlight zone is a very good desciption of when you are ill, I feel like we've been like that this week

still at work here - my mum has the boys today and tomorrow so they'll have a lovely day, hope she doesn't get too tired!

BouncingTinsel · 22/12/2008 11:02

INsy - glad to hear you are on the mend - and congrats on winning the toys! I am really made up for you, nice when it happens to someone I know!!

insywinsyspider · 23/12/2008 13:39

hi BT and thank you - think its the first time I've ever won anything apart from 10 pounds once on the lottery

about to give up on work, its dead here, I'm the only one left from my dept and done all my work, also got ear ache, had it since yesterday - anyone got any suggestions for natural remendies to unblock my ear? steam inhalation isn't working!

claireybaubles · 23/12/2008 15:02

Just popping in to wish you all a very happy Christmas, and I hope that all of those babies that weren't here yet this time last year enjoy their first Christmas

Congrats on the toys Insy!

Clara hope you and anyone else who is ill recovers in time for Christmas. I was ill last year and it was awful (especially with a 2 week old who had just discovered the art of screaming non-stop!)

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!!!!
