Hi Ellie. Oh, I'm joining you on exciting NY's: sat here MNing until 2, as R has bronchiatis and kept being sick, so I didn't want to go to bed and fall asleep and risk him choking... If it wasn't for dh I'd be crazy by now!

Am now searching local options to see whether I'd be able to get a nanny for a week or two (not even sure if such a service exists) as I can't send him to nursery the way he's feeling now.

Your nursery sounds perfect too, so you've got the best possible situation there!

EllieG · 01/01/2009 15:47

Oh poor little man. He's picked up quite a few bugs hasn't he? M does too, someone ten miles away has a cold and she'll catch it. In fact, I think having her cold is her usual state as can't remember her not having one. Maybe when she was born.

EllieG · 01/01/2009 15:51

Incidentally - VS - know you said you didn't want to talk about it here but you mentioned today was going to be difficult, so hope things are OK x

SalLikesCoffee · 01/01/2009 15:55

Lol Ellie. Feels about the same here! It's getting a bit much sometimes - as soon as one thing is over / sorted something else arises! he way it's going now I definitely can't see myself having another!

EllieG · 01/01/2009 16:02

Does anyone have a play pen for their LO's? Mol getting very wiggly now and would be handy to have something to plonk her in when need to leave room for a bit. Any recommendations?

SalLikesCoffee · 01/01/2009 16:06

No sorry Ellie, but would be quite interesting to see the suggestions too. R's on a mission lately and if I turn my back for one second he's gone! I think I remember someone on here saying they had one though.

MadameOvary · 01/01/2009 16:16

Ellie I got a BabyDan but what she really wants is the freedom to roll around the floor so I am thinking about sectioning off a part of the room and letting her just get on with it safely

EllieG · 01/01/2009 16:23

That's a good idea though my place isn't really big enough to do that without some reorganisation. Maybe getting rid of the rest of the furniture to make way for the baby?

Like the babydan one though cos you can get a little tent for it to make it into a wendy house when they are bigger

LittleRascal · 01/01/2009 16:36

chipmonkey · 01/01/2009 16:56

Just skimmed last bit of thread and would just like to say Happy New Year to all!
And Congratulations LR
I only found out about the "elite" club a few days ago and have to say I was very, very upset about it and close to flouncing from MN and then I thought of all you lovely girls plus some other great people here on MN and couldn't do it! Besides, what else would I do, I might have to do housework!
VS, horrible that you were misquoted but I think everyone was? Sloppy journalism.

SalLikesCoffee · 01/01/2009 16:57

Happy New Year, chipmonkey! So glad you didn't leave - MN would be much the poorer for it!

chipmonkey · 01/01/2009 17:14

Aw, thanks Sal!

VSisFlouncing · 01/01/2009 17:53

Yesterday went a lot better than I was expecting, thankfully.

EllieG · 01/01/2009 17:57

That's good VS

MadameOvary · 01/01/2009 19:28

Hi Sal
Ellie I dont know if you were joking about the furniture but that's what I have done - just emptied one side of the room in preparation.

SalLikesCoffee · 01/01/2009 20:24

MadameO and Ellie, glad to hear this seems (kind of ) normal - I've been threatening for a while to throw out the dining room table and chairs (it's small anyway - round and just about big enough for two dining room chairs and R's high chair) and that would mean a lot more crawling space!

Sure, would also mean we have to eat on our laps and dh would have trouble working from home... Hmm. I need a bigger house. Or even just a house will do.

ThePFJInASleigh · 01/01/2009 21:16

Hi Everyone...

Will be back posting soon. PFJ update time: My nan (96 years old) had a fall and is in hospital, but she is doing ok, so shouldn't be any bad news we hope. Jack can now say mama and nana as well as dada (yay) and christmas and new year have been pretty good overall. Hope you all had a good one, sorry I haven't time to read the thread. Happy New Year All!!!

xxx

SalLikesCoffee · 01/01/2009 21:20

Hello PFJ, and happy new year! So sorry to hear about your nan though, hoping for a quick recovery.

re Jack's talking. Here zilch, nill, zero, nada. Gmpf!

ClarissimoUsedToBePeachy · 01/01/2009 21:24
  • they just couldn't cope with us, far too fabulous. I was hurt but I'm deciding not to be any more. No real point is there? Won't achieve anything.

Wow PFJ.... Bas can say Dada but hasn't for a few days as concentrating on moving now. He can walk fine behind his pushalong (its got a friction thing so doesnt roll away from him) though the room only allowws for a few apces tbh. He waves though and loves to clap.

Starting baby signing soon actually, shame Eva's not about as its close to her.

LadyBee · 01/01/2009 23:23

We had v lowkey New Years eve too, I made a roast chicken dinner, we had a bottle of wine between us (suspect I had most of it), watched the Martin Clunes thing as well, today we've finished the dining room and I've cried twice about going back to work. Thought I was ok about it, but it seems not.
oh well, nothing to be done about it except get pregnant again

Sal, there's a local agency called little masters and misses, or something similar, which is well-regarded, been around for yonks - they might be able to help you find a temp nanny.

Does anyone know about backs? I have been waking up every morning from about 5 am with a very stiff and sore back, it hurts so much it's difficult to turn over or shift position. I've had sciatic pain before (and a lot during my pregnancy) but this is higher up, sort of lower-rib level. My New Year's resolution was to do some stomach exercises (never did get around to them after the c-section)...but does anyone have any ideas about what or why this is?

Peachy/Clarissimo, v jealous of baby signing. I think BabyBee would love this, he's fascinated by copying us - doing head shaking "no" at the moment, waving, clapping and big hands in the air 'yay!' things.

LadyBee · 01/01/2009 23:33

PFJ, sorry to hear about your nan, I hope the recovery continues well.
and Ellie, your little one was reading a different book, obviously (does she sleep at night? if so..is lack of long napping a problem or just not what you think she should be doing?)
We don't have a playpen, but I did seriously consider getting one when we first came back. Now we just had a safety gate across the doorway that joins the dining room to the hall. He has the run of the lounge and dining room (all one space, mostly) - at first I was very nervous about letting him roam freely in it, but he seems to be content hauling himself up on the furniture and has learnt which chairs don't stay still when he tries it.

chipmonkey · 02/01/2009 01:58

I did feel hurt too, I think it was an "Oh well, apparently just as invisible and insignigicant at 40 as I was at 16" type of thing but have decided it's not worth getting upset about.
Your babies all sound so mobile! Harry is very half-hearted about the crawling. He tries for 10 seconds and then rolls on to his back and cries to be picked up!
