Jfly-dont do hypno...that's fnf1!!
I'm afraid surreydoula is bought and paid for. I can't afford to move for 100 years.

fitnfestiveone · 20/12/2008 17:52

heh, great minds and all that turtle, I've bought my hypno domain from them too, am trying to figure out how to use the latest dreamweaver to put together the webpages as i'm too tight to buy their pro-formas

turtledove23 · 21/12/2008 06:57

Why is my site not working....hmmm..was showing you nearly finished site, not 123reg rubbish...

merryberry · 21/12/2008 09:38

well iu can see it and i really really like it. love the colour! love the simplicity of information and the easy progression through the site.

i also think you need to big up your name somehow. i kleep thinking the doula's name is rachel canham. can your webmaster's name be followed by her company name or role or some such, do make it clear that rachel isn't the doula? i'd use a pic of you in the triptych near the big Home button as well.

i would also link directly from the text. as well as the logo links for doula UK text etc, so people can go straight off to see what their regulation is about. it took me a while to work out that there were links to these bodies...as i tend to block out images to avoud advterising.

and possibly do a links page at some stage, so people can find all the things needed in one place eventually. i'd include mn, bf sites, sites for birth crisis type people, all that jazz. but it's not critical and you'll get more ideas as time passes i reckon.

great work.

and jfly i will be lol-ing on and off all day at www.breathinbreathoutstopcrushingmyhand.com

turtledove23 · 21/12/2008 10:19

Thanks, MB. Have a link page going up this week. Am very that I can't see it to fix things! Apparently it could be up to 48 hours. Grr.
On a lighter note, am about 5 minutes away from selling DS and throwing myself off a bridge. His teeth are horrendous again, DH tried to do last night but bailed at 4am as it was just the worst ever and I have to spend today with my MIL who will gloat that I got it wrong yet again and am crap mum for breastfeeding. Rant over.

merryberry · 21/12/2008 11:43

ah, good luck with that. smile sweetly, smile sweetly, stand your ground internally. talk about the weather

i had a neighbour + kids night last night...went like this:

bed 9pm (joint pain bad, was weary after shoppiong and party day with kids and gg teething)
bottle feed 11pm
neighbours home drunk 1230, go ask nicely to turn it down
can't sleep at 2pm as the noise levels vary wildly next door depending if the nice or the naughty neighbours are winning the power struggle
doze off a bit
bottle feed/calpol 0330
0345 crash banging on neghbours door and SHOUTING to turn it off from your good self. absolutely furious with noise and disrespect, numpty who copped this one from me looked like fish out of water. i got ENRAGED by stupidity and cussed him soundly while jabbing finger at him with words of 1 syllable (except the sweary bit they were mostly 2 syllable)
fail to sleep until 4am, regretting loss of temper and trying to figure out longer term solution
up at 63o am with cherubic kiddies

grrr

fitnfestiveone · 21/12/2008 12:06

MB, think you need the calpol, am v.glad we're in a detached house as we don't bother or get bothered by neighbourly noise. Could you drop them a note explaining the situation and ask for advance warning if they're off on the piss so you know to take more drugs?

Turtle - hope it gets better soon, but personally I think the only way it's going to happen is for you not to be in the house over a weekend, let your DH cope with it as he'll always cop out and hand over to you since he doesn't sound like the type to be stoic in the face of a sleepless night. There will always be an excuse (hence my hint about getting so blotto you can't give in!), appreciate it's not as simple as that though. My friend who's got 3 boys now just waits for a weekend when her DH isn't going to be there and then goes cold turkey overnight on the BFs, it usually only takes 2 nights for her as the LOs learn pretty quickly. She is, after 3 of them, able to be slightly immune to the distressed crying though however which I'd guess kills you .

I can't get my site to load either, spent ages on it last night and got the index page FTPd but no images bar 1 loaded and none of the subpages loaded. Confused. May resort to HTML as last resort, but very last resort.

Off to put the tree up now - parents arriving tonight!

fitnfestiveone · 21/12/2008 12:25

btw, how is it that my LO can now produce a stink worthy of the worst nappies, but when I go to change him, the nappy is empty of said stink-producing contents?

JFly · 21/12/2008 16:36

Turtle - sorry about the not-so-helpful advice re website. When I looked, it just said "this domain is registered...." and all that jazz, so I thought you were thinking about buying the domain, rather than having a nice pretty website all done! Sorry about that!

Agree with MB about making the site creator thing much less prominent. Don't put it on the front page, and I wouldn't even put it on each subsequent page. Perhaps you can put a credit on the about or contact page. If you are going to put a bottom nav/ banner featuring a credit for the web designer, then make sure your name and contact details are on there as well. Provides quick links and continuity.

turtledove23 · 21/12/2008 19:22

That's a difficult one. Designer gave me site and hosting for a year for about £10...and that includes all the content editing she'll be doing. I think that the template is kind of rigid. Is it too bad? She's meant to put my name on the home page above the photos...it keeps taking time to update for some reason and it sticks with the 123 page in the meantime. Still...it's cheap!
Jfly- Good luck with your epic journey!

merryberry · 21/12/2008 20:36

could ask her to change the words 'site by rachel canham' to website design by rachel canham'

site is ambiguous, could mean the content as well as the format/tech. that's where the confusion was for me

turtledove23 · 22/12/2008 07:47

Any better?

HolidaysQueen · 22/12/2008 10:03

hi turtle - i would comment on your site but i keep getting the 123 thing. sorry

I'm just dropping in to say Merry Christmas in case i don't get chance again. we're hosting this year for my in-laws. I get on with them really well, but even so I still have that feeling of "ohmigod, they're going to be judging if i'm a good enough wife and mother for their son and grandson!" So I'm on some kind of mega mission this week - lists everywhere, food everywhere, freezer being filled with all sorts of random goodies etc. Unhelpfully, also discovered the freezer has no food left for DS so I'm having to stock up with veggies and chicken and fish and pasta sauce etc. Sigh.

Having said that, I'm not sure why I bother as he'll find food anyway. I got DS a mini cha han in Wagamama the other day (rice, chicken, egg, veggies - nicely baby friendly) only to find a little hand creeping onto the side of my plate to steal my chilli and ginger laden ginger chicken udon... He also ate 4 ebi gyoza to my 1 when I assumed the ratio would be the other way round. I ended up eating the cha han while he polished off my noodles 'Tis a good job I'm relatively relaxed about salt intake! Also [very proud mummy emoticon] a lady came up to ask how old he was and said she thought it was wonderful that he was feeding himself and eating the same food as me, and that I should be very proud of him

Anyway, if I'm not back, Merry Christmas to you all (JFly - hope you got to the US eventually!) - hope you have a wonderful first Christmas with your babies. Thank you for all your support this year

merryberry · 22/12/2008 13:13

mine's on a strike from blw! he is erupting his upper front teeth and can hardly bear to have them touched. spooning gloop is where we're at again. still the upside is so little mess for me!

happy christmas, hq

...going to look at site again now

merryberry · 22/12/2008 13:15

neat links solution and nice to see yor name on home page

fitnfestiveone · 22/12/2008 15:05

turtle, like the site! Striking colour. Btw, on the services page for birth doula bit, theres an underscore, wasn't sure if that was meant to be there or if it should be a dash or something else?

And can I just say your rates are a bargain if you're including the homeopathy kit in the price!

Parents arrived safely last night, dad proved useful instantly with a baby screaming fit about midnight - he paced the floor for ages with LO to get him back to sleep. Don't know if it's teething or wind making him do this, but cough is a bit worse again . As long as he's otherwise healthy for the next few days that's the main thing though!

Merry Christmas to all in case I get waylaid by RL...

turtledove23 · 22/12/2008 16:09

P's got another Xmas present coming...yup...another tooth. We're nearly at the full set!
Happy Xmas all!

wearehipsandmakers · 23/12/2008 10:11

ilovegreenbeans · 23/12/2008 10:22

Merry Christmas! Another big thank-you for all the support over the past year. Hopefully we'll make it to a meet up in January (can I ask for a Mon-Wed day?)
x ilgb

littleducks · 23/12/2008 11:31

turtle previously only got the reg page but it was working this morning and i think its a good site and i love the pic of preg belly with heart hands

ds still has no teeth at all, cant imagine how P must look with so many

Hq- my kids love wagamama too but dh hates it, i want to buy the recipe book and see if i can make some of the dishes at home

fitnfestiveone · 23/12/2008 21:10

I want to commit murder and I still have another 51/2 days with my parents under the roof. LO is being fed but not watered, didn't have enough yesterday so woke up screaming at 3am for milk. So dad overcompensated today with loads of food (new jars each time so wasting loads) and too much milk. Had to take them to Asda tonight which led to me coming back home in foul mood, to find that LO had vomited all over mattress, through the waterproof cover, over the top of the cot and along the wall.

Very impressed but don't think my sanity will last much longer - only another 1/2 day in the office!

I now return you to your usual happy channel

turtledove23 · 24/12/2008 07:31

You poor thing, fnf1! I only have to endure an afternoon with the inlaws (parents other side of planet) and it fills me with fear. Wish I could offer some advice other than Xmas is but once a year....

fitnfestiveone · 25/12/2008 22:34

hope everyone had a nice day, I really enjoyed it and my LO was a star (or an angel, depending on the xmas theme!)
We do have far too many presents to know what to do with though...some may have to take up residence with granny and grandad

merryberry · 26/12/2008 08:16

we had a great day too! very calm and straightforward. i think everyone got a lot of what they wanted. today is the more punishing but more rewarding socially day...off to in laws. they have a large and dopey boxer...but my word its large...5 adults and a 7 year old, us 4. and a sitting room about the size of man sized hanky...ditto their kitchen. real squeeze, wish us luck!

merryberry · 26/12/2008 19:03

ah now that's fine. if you drink 3 small glasses of bubbly, 3 small glasses of red, then yer perpesective improves also, sis-in-law was there, she's a hackney gp and we spend time making each other's toes curl over the state of the nhs, for sport. mind you she then left to get on plane and go spend 2 weeks in palo alto, and i felt like i've not felt in a while!
