Puree - love the letter from nspcc, I've seen similar before but the fact that the money's going to nspcc means that I'll put my hand in my pocket this year.

btw - I'm Mummy or Muuuuuuuuum (said in a very whiny voice)

For Christmas I am doing a stocking and also a sack from FC (that I still have to sew yet) as otherwise ds1 and 2 would think it strange that fc forgot Ethan. I'm going to wrap up a box with bits in - those new shoes, bibs, small toys, stacking beakers, - so it looks a bigger present to the older 2, might also pad it out with crinkly paper for him to play with, then I'm also going to put balloons in the sack - that was a recommendation from MN. Cheap toy for Christmas morning. I know he'll just be interested in the wrapping paper anyway.

hedgehog1979 · 12/11/2008 15:12

afternoon all,

Have been busy this morning - walked to town, cinema (we are off to see Bond tonight) hope Isaac will take a bottle from MIL as last night he was still up when I got home from guides @ 9.30 and DH had been trying to feed him for an hour, so we gave in and gave him BF, but kind of nervous about tonight.

P&P I was thinking of getting one of those letters for Isaac too as it would be something else to add to his scrapbook

amber I was also in tears watching the news last night and almost took Isaac to Guides with me as I didn't want to leave him.

PP hope you have enjoyed your tumble drier - DO NOT PUT PLAYGYM IN it will melt and you will feel very bad.

BDQ and other weaners I am not planning to buy anything special as I am going to do BLW so don't plan on blending, freezing or pureeing anything (really lazy here!!)

katyjo (?) LOL at Mia, I have been always said that if Isaac grabs some of my muffin/cake etc when I am in Costa/Starbucks etc then I will know that he is ready for food, but so far so good.

Isaac is currently sleeping on his new playgym and I am rewatching the Harry Potter films and contemplating tidying the living room

deb liking the idea of balloons and crinkly paper for baby christmas presents, might steal that from you

bitofadramaqueen · 12/11/2008 15:19

Amber I'd love to, but the realities of maternity pay mean that it's out of budget now!

Thanks for links P&P.

Am I the only one who's been completely bonkers and spent a small fortune on new baby for Christmas . Well, chances are we'll only have one and it is his first christmas.... this is his main present.

Am a bit distraught at the mo though, as S has nappy rash .

aberdeenhiker · 12/11/2008 15:25

Hi, Fraser's not getting much for Christmas as this will be the last year we can make Duncan happy without spending much. They might get In the Night Garden stuffed characters , but I'll probably give that idea to family members. Last year I spent a total of £12 on Duncan for Christmas and he had no idea he was shafted (Stanley Snail is gorgeous though!)

I don't use any special equipment for weaning aside from baby spoons. I have a hand blender for making purees and I just use regular containers to store it in and serve from.

And I'm mummy here!

bitofadramaqueen · 12/11/2008 15:28

Oh I'm mummy too.

poppy34 · 12/11/2008 15:29

I am mama or mummy .. depending on who says it - rather worryingly edie is making pirate type noises on the playmat - you don't think she could have been corrupted by reading that thread over my shoulder

aberdeenhiker - glad you say that as only thing I've invested in aside from spoons and a couple of little pots to defrost things in is a hand blender

right friend has lent me a couple of weaning recipe books so willt ry to read those (but most likely end up idly surfing )

aberdeenhiker · 12/11/2008 15:46

Anyone else make the mistake of trying the new eco nappies from Sainsburys? Don't! I've had three poo leaks out of the last three poos! (I normally use the Nature Baby ones). I'm annoyed as Sainsburys doesn't stock the Nature Baby ones now that they have their own brand so I have to start making a trip to Boots.

pleasechange · 12/11/2008 15:46

Hi all - haven't posted for a couple of weeks as I was away and then there were so many posts on this thread that I couldn't catch up.

Have only read a few pages so far but just wanted to say hi

bdq I'm also guilty of spending quite a bit on A for xmas - my excuse is that I haven't really bought him anything except clothes since he was born and that everything I'm buying for xmas will do him until his birthday. I seem to have an addiction to buying him books as well

Re. weaning I still have my head in the sand, but am waiting until after xmas. So far I've bought one of those food net thingies, few spoons and tommee tippee bowls

katyjo looks like Mia is going to have a sweet tooth!

paro that's great about the sleep. We've been having a terrible few weeks with A waking every hour every night. Last night was a tiny bit better with 2 hourly wake-ups

ThePenguinProject · 12/11/2008 16:39

P&P - I am Mum or Mummy.

Xmas presents: I might ask for baby sitting vouchers from friends, it's what we want/need most! Ryder's getting a room of his own for Xmas, that could count as DH's present too IYKWIM.

Poppy/HH - Sorry but I wasn't over impressed with the new Bond. DC still looking good tho.

BDQ - I love Stanley Snail - stop linking to gorgeous lovely thinsg everyone or I will go bankrupt!

Poppy - LOL @ pirate noises.

Aberdeenhiker - I have been slagging off those Sainsburys eco nappies to anyone that will listen! They are completely useless, both in fit and absorbancy. I got 2 for £8 I think, but am planning to take the 2nd pack back.

Essie - where are you? (I know Wales!) You're very quiet.

Amberc · 12/11/2008 16:41

Aaaaaaw Luke has started 'babbling' it's the most lovely sound I have ever heard. He's having a conversation with the butterflies on his gym. Mark said he heard him making new noises last night too. I hope he continues - it's proper consonants. I've gone super gooey listening to him and had to phone Mark and hold the phone out so he could hear too.

I want to be 'mummy'. By the way along that same vein, what are people calling their babies erm... private parts? Especially girls - I don't even know what I call my own! I think we are going 'winkie' for a boys bits and no idea what a girls bits would be!!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 12/11/2008 16:44

i have finished my shopping.

will catch up later.

bitofadramaqueen · 12/11/2008 16:53

was unspired to complain to sainsbury's after reading {{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/ethical_living/635977-NEW-Sainsburys-own-brand-eco-nappies?pg=2 this]]. S in cloth but do use disposables occasionally. I actually usually buy them from boots but annoyed that Sainsbury's have stopped stocking the nature ones.

Holding S as I type so apologies for any errors, bad punctuation etc.

LauraT · 12/11/2008 17:20

katyjo love the Mia and the cake story! jealous of your waterbabies class, hope you have fun.

allnew welcome back.

BDQ how's the work going? you said we should nag you about it when you were posting a lot

P&P that is a rolls royce among high chairs!

Is Charlotte the only baby who is decidedly non-plussed by her playmat/baby gym thing? she really is less than impressed by it. She also hates tummy time, and manages about 5 minutes at a time!

hello everyone else!

pleasechange · 12/11/2008 17:27

Laura A seems to have 'outgrown' his playmat. He used to love lying there batting the toys, but now just rolls over and gets frustrated that he can't crawl yet!

To be honest 5 mins is pretty much how long A will do anything without getting bored. This is ok whilst he still can't move, but I can only imagine how busy I'll be running after him when he can move!

Can't think of a polite name for girls' bits!

bitofadramaqueen · 12/11/2008 17:27

this

goingfor3 · 12/11/2008 17:56

I'm also mummy but when ds babbles mama I call mysef that. He's just making sounds but I like to think he calling me!!

Amber re 'bits' we call boys willes and used to call girls little bottoms. Last week I told the girls they were caleed penis and vagina and DD starting singing that mummy has a penis and Daddy has a 'pa'gina - pagina has kinda stuck now!!!!

poppy34 · 12/11/2008 17:59

no laurat/allnewsame issue here -mat was previously a real favourite but now 5 minutes max (and tummy time is torture time mostly)... am debating whether to crack open xmas present early as have lost one of my leave her safely standbys (still keen on bouncer but bad mummy can't keep putting her in front of baby einstein although she loves it)

PP I know! he wants an ironing board too... you can imagine the fun i've had shifting that someone to hide (and how can i wrap that or put it under the tree or explain to my mother that he hasn't got some kind of fetish when he quite clearly has )

BDQ impressed you've complained

another unsuccesful day weaning -think I'm just going to can it for a while following allnews example - it just seems to cause more tears than anything (we have about 5/10 spoonfuls before complete meltdown as she wants milk or maybe is this normal )

goingfor3 · 12/11/2008 18:05

poppy34 a few spoonfuls is normal at the beginging. At first I gave ds some milk then a few spoons of solids and then finsihed his milk feed.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 12/11/2008 18:14

Poppy that seems quite a lot. DD just started with 1 or 2, so maybe you just need to cut down on the amount you are giving her. Start of with some milk, a teaspoon or 2 of food and then some more milk, that is literaly all they need to start of with, don't forget there tummies are tiny.

poppy34 · 12/11/2008 18:17

thanks you two.. I don't know what I'd do without you vintage mums

aberdeenhiker · 12/11/2008 18:33

We've just got out the exersaucer today and it's been great - it feels like he's played on his own for ages, although it's probably just 15 minutes at a time. I'm not sure what type this is as it's a hand-me-down but it's a real lifesaver today as I had the tummy bug last night and was up throwing up. All I want is to lie around and veg today but I've had both boys on the go all day....

I need to try Fraser on food again since he's refusing a bottle (and I want to be able to go out for a meal with my friends in a few weeks without leaving my baby to starve) - poppy Fraser sounds just like Edith so it's good to know it's not just us (And I am a vintage mum but everything seems different this time).

bitofadramaqueen · 12/11/2008 18:39

Laura are you trying to say I post too much . The studying is not going well at all. You've reminded me that I need to contact my tutor and grovel a lot! Once I start again I'll let you all know and you can all nag me!!!

Amber whatever you do, don't go elsewhere on mumsnet to ask what to call kids 'bits'. I've seen some hardcore threads out there, and you can get lambasted for even suggesting something fun instead of 'proper' names. People even argue about what the 'correct' names are. I call S's bits his 'wee man bits' and DH calls them 'big man bits' .

Laura S isn't a fan of his babygym at the moment either. He loves other people's though! I've got another mat that he prefers to play on, probably because when he's on that I play with him, sing etc and he laughs at me The bar is removable on his babygym and it's got a padded back so I think it will come in handy again when he can sit up and I remove the bar. He also isn't a fan of tummy time - the only time he really likes it is when he's at one of his baby classes - then when he's on his tummy he can have a good neb at all the other babies.

Allnew glad its not just me. I have bought loads of books too. My friend has just started selling Usborne books so I had to order a few more to help her out . Am also using the argument that the toys will do him until his birthday, and have bought lots of 9 month plus toys to put away and bring out a few months later.

Amberc · 12/11/2008 19:21

Luke hates his playgym and cries if I put him on it unless I sit him up and hold his back so he doesn't fall over as he can't sit unaided for more than 3 seconds! He still can't roll. Maybe he never will.

G43 love pagina!

BDQ yes I think I may have read somewhere on MN before someone insisting that their 4 year old has a 'vulva' bleugh - I hate that word!!! I wouldn't ask anywhere else in case peole thought I was a perv !

bitofadramaqueen · 12/11/2008 20:13

Amber rolling is so overrated (yep, you guessed it, S can't roll either!).

Off to London for a few days so wont be around till early next week. Wouldn't want you all thinking I was off studying .

pleasechange · 12/11/2008 20:40

poppy I agree, those baby einstein dvd's are a godsend at times - A will sit content in his bouncy chair watching those for long enough for me to get some stuff done. Don't know what it is about them, but he's enchanted by it
