Hello New thread! Its been a week or so since Ive been on so not really caught up at all, just read todays posts.
My LO is also not and nowhere near rolling. Overated i agree too! Although Isla has started shuffling backwards. Maybe she'll be a bumshuffler! Looked at DD1 red book and she didn't roll till 23 weeks, so still 4 weeks to go if she is going to follow the family tradition. We have also abandoned weaning for the time being. Isla did seem quite interested, but now isn't. We did 4 days of baby rice, then she started to get quite distressed at the sight of it, so Ive stopped. Maybe try something like sweet potato in a week or so. She is sleeping a lot better so maybe a misread the signs and she isn't quite ready for food yet.
We had a great weekend in Liverpool with my mum and brother etc, was great to be away with just Isla, altough I did miss DD1 lot(and DP?!) Came back to a absolute pigsty of a house...I am quite OCD with the housework though!
Nightmare end of train journey on the way there, did 2 trains no probs, then the last leg, Chester to Lpool, there was a bus(double decker) which i didn't know about until I got to Chester. Not one single person helped when I had to fold down my M&P massive buggy and hold LO and get luggage onto a packed bus I cried. Isla was due a feed, but because I didn't know about the bus repacement I was planning on feeding her on the last train. Lots of crying. We made it though, but won't do it again in a hurry.
Will read back through other posts later...hope all are well....

Have discovered this new toy to keep Ethan amused. I tied lots of things to the washing lines in my washroom(sorry about the mess and the crap photos) and he sat there for 45 minutes - essential for me as I do have quite a lot of washing and ironing to do!!

Neenztwinz · 12/11/2008 21:36

Oh Fungle that sounds terrible. Bus replacements are the WORST!

Food didn't go down too well again today - they seem to only like baby rice at the mo. Even sweet potato didn't do it tonight! They usually love it but turned their noses up. Think it might be teething. They scoffed the baby rice and still slept quite well last night even tho they only had a bit of baby rice so hopefully it will fill them up.

Real nappy users - what do you do with your soiled nappies before you wash them? Now that the DTs poos are more substantial I put what I can down the loo but then often there is still loads caked on the liner/nappy (using fleece liners). So I have started soaking the really bad nappies/liners and today I did a rinse wash before the proper wash. The nappies came out clean, but wondered if there was an easier way.

debinaustria · 12/11/2008 21:47

Fungle your bus journey sounds horrendous.

Neenz - sorry to hear the dt's are backtracking with the weaning.

LauraT · 12/11/2008 22:22

BDQ I would never complain about you posting, just noticed that after a significant absence you were back in form!

C has never liked the baby gym, she wants to be carried around at all times in the house and rolling - definately over-rated. She's only little though compared to some of the babies on here, (11lb 11oz last week) so although clearly not gifted and talented at rolling - though she could take you all on at vomiting!

Essie3 · 12/11/2008 22:28

Evening all! Just noticed that I hadn't posted (thanks PP for spotting that one!) For some reason, when I'm on the island, I have less time to post. Can't work out why that would be, because there is less going on here.
So, I've been to a couple of groups, been shopping (Tesco ), and been doing some quilting - making a lovely little quilt for some expected babies!

Some responses - I can't remember most!

Neenz I always put the pooey nappies in a bucket with water. Then I tip the whole load into the machine - my Mum says I'm dirty (!) but I thought the water immediately drained away. I don't like putting my hand in the pooey water though. They come up clean on a 60 degree (can't find the symbol!) wash and I only wash on 'quick wash'. I have the tiniest bucket in the world (holds 5 litres!) and it has a lid for the sake of visitors. Mind you with twins you'll need a big bucket maybe 500 litres. Also for Neenz, can I have a private chat with you about your tandem feeding photo? (That sounds horrific and pervy - it's totally innocent and for encouraging bfing purposes and showing that it's not impossible to bfeed twins.) I'm sara.e.roberts at bangor.ac.uk.

What else? Umm, BDQ I'm off to check your dreamfeed thread now. We're having a strange time of it. First, Iestyn wakes for the dream feed at around 10.15 (yeah, not technically 'dream', but he's also not fully awake - although I can't get him back to sleep without feeding him first). So he clearly wants it, and no idea how to break the habit. He's also woken several times for an additional feed at around 5am. But this is with him in his own room in the cot.
Plus we've had soaking, dripping grobag incidents - very odd, as nothing has changed; he just seems to be weeing pints.
Finally, last night the breathing alarm went off twice. With no obvious reason or explanation for a false alarm. Gulp.
And tonight I'm alone with him as Tim is working in London. (Amber hear hear on the use of proper names - 'DH' is annoying and silly when the man is called Tim. It's no secret. He doesn't work as a spy. Or maybe he does and his real name isn't even known to me.) Everyone, good sleeping vibes to Iestyn please!

Ok, two minor points to finish because I'm tired now! In this household it's willy (I'm sure several of you will wet yourselves when I spell it my way - wili ). No names for girls' bits but I did have a boyfriend who called mine my 'bunny'. But he went to boarding school and that was only the tip of the iceberg.
And I'm Mam or Mami - I prefer Mami but my own mother finds that one totally middle class (!) and Tim thinks it's spelt Mammy and finds it to be all too Gone with the wind.
Iestyn has a Nain and Taid too. Feel free to guess which is masculine and which is feminine!

Essie3 · 12/11/2008 22:29

Wow, huge post! Sorry, and sorry for failing to respond to most people.

bitofadramaqueen · 13/11/2008 07:50

Morning! Anyone around? Advice needed...

S has had dirty nappies constantly for a couple of days, and starting to get nappy rash . Just put it down to teething troubles, but this morning his poo was bright green! Is this normal. He still FF and no weaning.

In a mad panic as need to leave for train to London in 20 mins...

ThePenguinProject · 13/11/2008 07:52

Fungle - That bus journey sounds horrid. Buses are the one place I have never been offered any help with the buggy.

Deb - Mummy ingenuity at work.

Essie - PMSL at bunny!? In the distant past I have been asked "is a mouse in the house?" A mouse being a small white thing with a tail IYKWIM. As a child I called my bits my dinky, I have no idea why. Boys bits are called willys. Why isn't there a corresponding girls name?

Sorry the weaning is going backwards Neenz, but it seems to be quite common. I've got a "weaning workshop" with my HV on Monday...very exciting.

Am getting Ryder weighed again today - this is the follow up GP appointment after they were worried last time. I had a HV appointment a fortnight ago and they were happy with his weight.

And this will be the last time I mention it, I promise, but I love my tumble dryer...

ThePenguinProject · 13/11/2008 07:54

Hi BDQ - Ryder is BF, but he had green poo last week. It only lasted a day and he seemed completely fine so I wouldn't worry. Will do a quick search for you tho...

ThePenguinProject · 13/11/2008 07:59

OK, after a quick search I really wouldn't worry BDQ. Alledgedly it may mean not enough 'hind milk', but that's not an issue for you! Apparaently some formulas can make poo green or it may mean that baby is a bit dehydrated, so just feed lots.

I particularly liked someone that admitted they found that if they didn't change baby quickly enough the poo turned green.

bitofadramaqueen · 13/11/2008 08:02

Cheers PP. He has been pooing a lot over last few days so maybe that's why dehydrated. Will squeeze an extra feed in today.

Bye everyone!

hedgehog1979 · 13/11/2008 08:52

LOL at green poo - One of my memories from childhood is changing my brothers nappy (I must have been about 4/5 and yelling at my mum that there Phil was an alien (his poo was green too). BDQ could it be teething?

Off swimming later this morning - I think I may turn Isaac into a merman or something the amount we seem to go.

I am now a very [confused emotion] person after watching Bond last night. I didn't seem to get what was going on, but maybe that is baby brain kicking in. Isaac didn't take much from the bottle, and Tony (DH) says he heard a whimper @ 2.30 this morning, but Isaac was sucking his fingers and seemed quite contented.

Isaac is still vvv happy on his playgym and not so chuffed when we put him in his bouncy chair so each to their own I guess.

Since he found he could lift his head he has stopped rolling so def overrated in my opinion. I am not too keen for the rolling to start coz then it means that I would have to tidy the living room more frequently [bad mummy emotion]

I am going to take him to be weighed later on today as well

Deb love the idea of pegging washing for the babies to watch, Isaacs current favourite thing to play with are empty water/coke etc bottles

He is currently talking to the World of Warcraft people on the BBC breakfast news!!!!

hedgehog1979 · 13/11/2008 08:53

Whoops - spot the west country accent in the first sentence

poppy34 · 13/11/2008 08:55

PP lol about your tumble dryer.. good luck at weigh in

essie rofl re "bunny"..no advice but we've had a couple of weeing pints incidents here too -maybe they're just getting more efficient at processing it.

right dsepite the advice from my fount of all knowledge 5gomad have decided to shelve the weaning for a while - I'm not completely convinced she is ready yet - although intersted in food its not like her milk isn't getting her through plus I have had the living daylights scared out of me by reading a book a friend lent me about the evils of baby food and really need to get going on making up puree -no excuse no I've got my hand blender (although I bow to amber's superior beaba skills).

poppy34 · 13/11/2008 09:10

scamping back here as its safe.. am as unwisely posted on thread re what were you experiecns with b/f and would you do it again - saying about my blocked duct (whcih is still tehre and still being treated ) putting me off..

cue loads of wellmeaning posters going on about latch, bras etc - well do you not think I tried all of that - do you really think that a mw/2 consultants etc couldnt fix it - fact I've still got a problem months after my milk stopped prob indicates its not something that can be solved by the usual nct/la leche methods (not that I'd know about that as I never got anyone to speak to on the 10 times I tried to speak to someone)

Sorry rant over but it does make me hopping mad... its not like I didn't try - and how many of that lot have had a blocked duct for nearly 5 months and counting (do you not think I've tried **&%(£(ing massaging it... )

spongebrainbigpants · 13/11/2008 09:45

katyjo, lol at you thinking that I would think the bad mummy alert was aimed at me!! I didn't take it personally . Loved the cake incident - that's my idea of BLW!

poppy, I'm feeling much better thank you. Alex has taken to only waking once in the night again and dh did the night feed on Tuesday so that helped too.

As for your dh asking for an iron and ironing board ! My dh does his own ironing but I don't think he'd ever get that excited about it!

PP, I've also just got a tumble dryer so can totally understand your excitement!

P&P, thanks for the tip on the Santa letter - will get one of those for Alex. He's not getting much from us as I have a feeling he's going to be inundated with pressies from family and friends.

BDQ, couldn't see the pic of what you're buying for S but it sounds cute!

As for babygyms, Alex has never liked his - luckily it was 2nd hand so we didn't spend much money on it. It was consigned to the loft weeks ago after barely being used - hope our next one will like it more!

Rolling - yes, very over-rated! It's a PITA tbh, until they can turn themselves back over again. Alex will not lie on his back now and can't consistently roll back from his tummy. Luckily his tolerance of tummy time is good but even so after about 15 mins he's crying to be turned back again. The other problem is that he brings his milk back up and then puts his face in it! The other day he looked like he had white eye liner on cos his eye lashes were covered in milk - lovely!

I never thought I'd say this but now I'm willing him to crawl so that he can move around and doesn't get so frustrated. He's moving his legs like mad and pushing himself a few inches, but gets so cross that he can't do anymore.

fungle, so sorry to hear about your bus journey - can't believe no one offered to help . Well, actually I can, seems par for the course in this day and age .

Essie, we've had a couple of scares with the baby monitor recently - is it on maximum sensitivity? Sometimes Alex falls into such a deep sleep that the alarm just can't pick up his breathing and it takes me a few pokes to make him move enough for me to know he's still alive . It scares the bloody crap out of me.

poppy, sorry to hear about your blocked duct - you poor thing. Can totally understand it putting you off trying bf-ing again .

OP posts:
Neenztwinz · 13/11/2008 09:45

Oh Poppy, it is very annoying when people tell you what you already know. You're like er, yeah, I know that already!

Thanks for advice on nappies, Essie. I have emailed you! LOL at use of DH's real name. 'He is not a spy!'

Well after being a bit off their food last couple of days breakfast of peach and lots of baby rice went down well this morn. Think I will try sweet pot and lots of baby rice for lunch. It seems they like it cos it is really smooth - I do my purees quite lumpy cos can only be arsed to mash not blend most of the time. They have never been bothered before with the lumps but perhaps if they are teething the lumps are annoying? Theo keeps coughing when the bits hit the back of his mouth

DH (well Peter if you must know but I do find it strange calling him that on here - even tho there is a pic of him on my profile!) has been off work this week and while it has been lovely it has also been quite frustrating cos he gets in the way and leaves a mess everywhere! He has gone to court this morn (he is lawyer not convict) and it is so much more chilled! We are going out for lunch today which will be lovely.

poppy34 · 13/11/2008 09:58

thanks neenz and sponge -peach sounds nice (have ordered ice trays etc to get ready for next attempt) for twins -and lol re peter not being a convict...

as for other thread I loved one of responses being "its all so predictable"- well at the risk of sounding a bit precious, I don't think a blocked duct for five months is predictable nor having it THE ENTIRE TIME

better go - suspicous pirate/grunting sounds coming from mat (and did giggle abotu the white eyeliner description sponge)

dss just left for college in a cloud of after shave (which by my prediction means he'll not be home as he said for dinner but will be visiting his lady friend) - teh similarities between him and raising edie are very striking (trying to get them in routine, proper eating , sleeping properly).. who says it gets easier?

Parofleurmapu · 13/11/2008 10:02

Morning

So many posts since i last posted have read all but will respond to a few

BDQ Youve prob left now but incase you chk in Green poos totaly normal here even before weaning, i was told to watch out for black and red!!!
Also DF - none last night either and yes she did always feed at 3am

Neenz think its prob teeth fleur has days like that too

HH cant believe isacc like bottles too Fleur is obsessed with coke bottles and crisp packets!!! Ive filled the bottles with chickpeas spaguetti sequins etc and she loves them!!!

Oh poppy just read thread stupid people!!!

On another note I bought Fleur some labels, name tags stickers etc for her stuff at nursery and they are the best ones ive ever seen and believe me being a teacher i know all about lost property and things not being named. So as they are so good ive become an agent for them, sellling loads here, So if you would like to get some stuff please check out this website which is my website oh and thanks if you do get anything!!! stuck on you

oh names of me DH me, LO and cat and dog are all in my user name!!! Any guesses

goingfor3 · 13/11/2008 10:47

I bought some stuck on you lables at the start of the school year. The labels for drinks bottles etc are good but the iron clothing ones and shoe ones just don't stay on.

Parofleurmapu · 13/11/2008 11:05

did you send them back as they guarantee they do if instructions followed. They will send you new ones

goingfor3 · 13/11/2008 11:06

I didn't realsie you could. SHould do that then!

Essie3 · 13/11/2008 11:13

Morning all!
Neenz we have twin husbands - mess-making lawyers. Here it's bits of paper - letters, newspapers, legal papers everywhere. It's lovely when he's around but I run a strict no-clutter household here which he doesn't always conform to. (What's so difficult about chair arms not being for dumping stuff?!) Are you sure yours isn't a spy??

Paro always wondered about your user name! Have now been on your site and know your real name - it's not loading properly at the mo, but I'm interested in labels!

Sponge we had 5 false alarms last night - the first had me shaking and queasy. (Then I got a bit blase but put Iestyn directly on the sensor and it was fine then). Iestyn is small and light - still not at 13lb here! I phoned TT, and they suggested putting a piece of plywood under the sensor mat and over the slats on the cot. Alas, I don't have a sensitivity adjuster on mine - clearly a cheapo inferior version!

There's a really strong smell of rubber in the house now so I have to go.

Parofleurmapu · 13/11/2008 11:18

yep they told me that as long as customers had followed the insructions: "Very firm pressure for at least 15 secs on highest setting its a question of getting label hot enough to melt the adhesive" I had the iron on mine for nearly a min!! and ive washed them loads and they havent even budged

and they say that fibrous fabrics like denim and really woolly jumpers may not stick.

The clothing tatoos rather than the iron on ones are better in my view i have some of both and the tatoos stick on anything even on a blanket for fleur to have in the nursery.
so id send them back and ask if you could swap them If you have probs let me know and ill see if i can sort it
