I got my nights wrong and the night nanny is coming tomorrow. Have decided to try not propping the baby up on his side so he can learn to do it himself and therefore if he falls backwards can right himself. That's part one. Part 2 is the dummy but will do that after the sideways thing has been sorted. I am however going to start tomorrow when night nanny can do it! I can't deal with another night like last night and I did try putting him on his back but he's woken up 3 times in 20 mins trying to get on his side so I thought fuck it and stuffed a sofa cushion behind him! Off to bed to stare at the ceiling for a while until dummy duty calls - don't you just love insomnia and a dummy addicted baby? Aberdeen at least your LO's cold will go at some point! I must have the worst sleeping baby on MN at the mo. Oh and Sponge after having met your baby there is no way you are starving him!

bitofadramaqueen · 11/11/2008 22:00

Typical, I finally decide to stop dithering and try a night without the df and what happens... S starts to wake up and cry about 1 hour before his feed! DH is now feeding him. Little bugger.

Questions re: weaning equipment I've got myself some nice vital bowls and spoons, but presumably the bowls will be too big for the early days of weaning. So what do I need? What's useful for out and about with a baby on solids? There's so much weaning equipment available it makes my head spin and I'm such a sucker for marketing I'd buy the whole range!

Good luck tonight amber.

Parofleurmapu · 11/11/2008 22:18

BDQ Dp and I are currently sitting here and waiting 2nd and the first real day of dropping DF bet fleur will wake for it too!!

BDQ I have a beaba bowl plate set that was given to me which is fab at home beaba but for out and about I use some little pots which at mo cant find a link to but i will they can microwave etc but also keep food warm

I have 2 weaning spoons and 2 ice cube trays and lots of plastic bags. I use saucepan to boil veggies etc and normal blender to puree

spongebrainbigpants · 11/11/2008 22:23

Poppy, thank you for your comments too. Have read some of your links - the pirate one is hilarious! The G&T one is great too - think alot of people go on there to wind the G&T parents up. Had a look at some of the threads and have to say that alot of those parents are getting v excited about nothing if they think what their kids are doing is esp gifted or talented! Ho hum. Of course, I already recognise that Alex is both G and T but that's entirely different!

P&P, yes have tried hungry baby - made no difference to the night waking and just made him really constipated so gave it up!

deb, thanks x

Paro, totally agree with you about mother's instinct - mine is that Alex is just not ready yet and I want to wait still.

5godmad, out of interest what feed are you using?

Neenz, thanks for the clarification. My eczema is really bad at the moment and I think that is psychologically making me wait on the weaning - does that make sense!

Amber, lol! Don't think they mean I'm underfeeding him, they mean that because he's a big baby he needs food if you see what I mean, that milk alone will never be enough. Bless him.

Thank you for all your support - I've had a rough day for one reason and another and I really appreciate all the support x

Just ordered these cute shoes for Ethan for Christmas, £5 cheaper than Daisy Roots and that's including delivery here.Paro - they may deliver to you too! It was only 50p more than UK delivery.

Anyone watch the Commander?

debinaustria · 11/11/2008 22:40

bdq - ice cube trays, spoons, handheld blender/chopper plastic pots, plastic mat for under highchair and decent washing powder or alternatively, orange coloured clothes for you and your lo. Carrot and later tomato stains are real buggers to get out. Why they do so many white bibs I'll never know.

katyjo · 11/11/2008 23:37

G43 The leapfrog playstation is great! It is very bulky though but you can fold it and put it away if you need to, it does get really manky if you let them eat when they are in it (sorry bad mother alert!).

whinegums Glad you got a place, I'm hoping for wonderful things its pretty expensive! But if its any good maybe we could try and get a class together next time.

Poppy Love the threads, do you think they are for real?

Sponge I've not started weaning Mia yet and she much older than A every so often I think I should and then I decide she doesn't need it.
BAD MUMMY ALERT
I was with friends for cake and coffee today, my friend was kindly holding Mia while I was seeing to ds, said friend picked up a slice of cake but before she managed to take a bite, Mia grabbed it it her fist grasping as much as she could and stuffed it into her mouth, the rest of the cake crumbled into bits and fell on the floor! My daughters first food was victoria sponge cake!! I think I might get pelted for that one Poppy It was marks and sparks, do I get some points for that or am I banished as a bad mummy forever!!!

katyjo · 11/11/2008 23:39

Sorry about lack of puntuation and for putting bad mummy alert so close to your name sponge, it was not meant to be attached to you in anyway I better get to bed!

katyjo · 11/11/2008 23:40

Oh god, meant punctuation!

debinaustria · 12/11/2008 07:23

lol at the cake incident Poppy.

Amber - how was your night?

AH - any news on the house?

Libra - how are you doing?

Morning to everyone else

goingfor3 · 12/11/2008 08:43

That is funny about the cake Poppy, definatley get points for it being M&S and not iceland ot Asda!!

Debs, lovely shoes. DS has some from Inch Blue and they are also lovely and we have had a lot of use from the.

The Leapfrog toy is fab!!!! DS loves it so I'm really happy with it.

BDQ, if you have any small avent bottles they are really good for small amounts of food wither the bottle or lid.

DD! is still of school as she still has a temp, will I ever get sometime to myself????

Amberc · 12/11/2008 08:43

My night wasn't as bad thankfully! Mark woke me up at 11 when he did the dream feed as Luke had peed through his sleeping bag and he didn't know where to find another but then I slept unti 3am. Baby woke at 4 about 3 or 4 times to have the dummy and then eventually got up at 6.15 so nowhere near as bad as he has been (that is not a bad night for me!).

I can't stop thinking about that baby in the news. All I can say is that I hope the inmates of the prisons they go to serve out some proper justice. Nuff said.

For weaning I have got some plastic bowls and weaning spoons, some baby cubes (like ice cubes but with lids attached) and my ace beaba baby cook for steaming and pureeing in one. Haven't thought about out and about but was given some plastic containers with lids. Most probably will use jars though. Will not think about this for a few more weeks though now as nappies all nice and normal again just how I like them!

Parofleurmapu · 12/11/2008 08:49

Morning Debs and anyone else lurking

Thanks for that link ill have a look when i get back from rehab

AND OMG Fleur slept from 7.30pm to 3am woke up too feed and then slept til 7am yeeeyyyyyy! Though couldve been a one off, so no dream feed worked (paro sliently slinks off so as not to get stuff thrown at her!!)

Well must be off will catch up later

poppy34 · 12/11/2008 09:19

amberc/fleurglad your nights were a bit better -fingers crosed that marks start of new era.

neenz remembered what it was called after I posted and googled on the net - it does make sense as she is super interested in everything... wouldnt settle at bedtime last night and am sure its cos she knew dh was home and wanted to play ..but did get her off eventually.

sponge hope today is better

got friend and her 2 dc over later and cleaner here - house is full of net deliveries for xmas (dh and i taking leaf out of all you guys book and doing it early) -dh has asked for an iron !!!

got this for edie -am hoping it will prove as popular as play gym was (am guessing from posts that i am not alone in finding this is not as popular as it was a few weeks ago).. trying to find one or two things that have some play appeal for some time in vain hope that house won't fill with toys play house

ThePenguinProject · 12/11/2008 09:22

Aaarrgggghhh! I've just lost a long post I was typing.

Poppy - Love the cake story.

Deb - Love the shoes, even cooler looking that the daisy roots.

Paro and Amber - Glad you both had improved nights.

I know that I am sad, but my tumble dryer has arrived and I am so excited that in 20 mins I will have some lovely warm clean clothes that I actually like to wear.

Amber - IKWYM about that baby.

ThePenguinProject · 12/11/2008 09:24

Poppy - An iron!? How domesticated is your DH?

bitofadramaqueen · 12/11/2008 09:24

That's great Paro. Does Fleur normally get a 3am feed? We had to abandon dropping S's df last night. Grrrr.

Amber at your beaba baby cook. I was planning to buy one but DH convinced me it was a bit frivolous as we have perfectly good food processor and hand blender. I used some of the JL vouchers I had earmarked for the baby cook to buy a bugaboo parasol for S's pram. Given the summer we had I know what was most frivolous...

Debs loving those shoes. Great price compared to some of the others I've seen.

Deb not sure if orange is my colour unfortunately.

katyjo at your cake incident. If Mia had any teeth they'd be sweet!

Paro I like the idea of little pots for out and about that keep food warm. Do you know who makes them or does anyone else have any links? I've seen those food warming flasks but have to say I think it'd be a bit of a squeeze fitting one in my changing bag!

poppy34 · 12/11/2008 09:24

ohh pp new tumble dryer -exciting

I had to stop reading/listening to that news story as just too harrowing - how could they have missed it amberc/pp

pureeandpearls · 12/11/2008 10:05

Cake story hilarious Poppy

Penguin- happy to join you in Tumble-dryer worship. I love mine. It's my best friend. Which makes me seem both irrevocably sad and twisted AND anti-green. Being green and being a Mamma don't always go hand in hand.

BDQ- for first stage of weaning I would use the lid from one of your bottles (if you ff) as they have such small amounts. Or you could try these
Also:
ice cube trays (I found the Annabel Karmel ones too hard to get the cubes out so flogging them on ebay)
Whizzer of some kind to make super smooth goo
A good bib- I can recommend these
A good chair for baby
you can also use a plastic mat to go under the chair but I never bothered as I have this high chair which can be used from birth, and tiled floors.

For out and about, the tommee tippee bowls- or you can get Nuby ones and own brand ones in Tesco- are useful for small amounts, but when you are on to larger amounts, I can also recommend this bowl which I have and use all the time. I too am a bit of a marketers dream so if you want further recommendations.....

PS- Amber- super jealous of your Beaba. I wanted one but DH wouldn't let me as I'd use baby puree as the justification for purchasing a ridiculously expensive hand-blender. D'oh!

Amberc · 12/11/2008 10:11

Poppy - Mark (not using DP any more as it sounds silly) bought the Evening Standard yesterday and wouldn't bring it home for fear of upseting me - he said he read about the baby in the tube and it almost made him cry. He came home and went straight upstairs to look at our sleeping baby and then came down and told me how much he loved him.

BDQ - just get the baby cook!!! It is marvellous. I made 12 cubes of mush in 6 different flavours in no time (they are in the freezer for when I resume feeding). It is so easy to clean too. Great for reheating and defrosting. Can't praise it enough.

I have not done a single item of Xmas shopping. I'm not sure if we will get Luke anything as he has so much stuff already that I just get ad hoc and he won't have a clue what's going on. Also he'll get millions of pressies anyway. Am also thinking of asking people not to bother getting me anything this year. Maybe asking people to donate to chairty instead. I always get a load of stuff I don't want and we haven't got any storage. I'd rather go and have a nice dinner.

Amberc · 12/11/2008 10:28

The tugs are here to take my boat away - i'll miss it!!

pureeandpearls · 12/11/2008 10:34

I've only thought about Christmas for the overseas people, but I have ordered babypearls a personalised stocking and a letter from Santa from the NSPCC website. I plan on filling her stocking but not get anything else: other people will spoil her rotten, she doesn't know any better, and we will put money into her accout instead.

I am curious to know what title everyone else has: are you mummy, mama, mamma etc.

PiggyPenguin · 12/11/2008 10:56

It is chatty chatty chatty on here today! We have the christmas fair at school this weekend and the kids are going to see Santa - how scary is that? When did christmas start taking over november?

Jamie still hasn't managed to shake his cold and I feel knackered being up every hour or so for a week is really not healthy i have decided.

I am in complete accord with the tumble dryer - I love mine. i am also very fond of the dishwasher though!

poppy34 · 12/11/2008 11:01

that is scary as although I'm shopping and watching baby einstein santa christmas seems ages away sybil amber wave out the window as my mum's partner probably pilot taking your boat away. Know

am feeling very lazy -should take madam out as it is so nice and sunny but sitting on my bum m/netting so much better!!
