morning all,

SBBP sorry you are feeling that people are getting at you, hope you remember you have loads of support here.

paro I have one of these for snot reduction and can definitely tell the difference when I forget to put it on. Only use it for a couple of hours, once Isaac has gone down and before we go to bed as it gives me a headache if I am not stuffed up (although I am at the moment)

Isaac has finally grown to long for the pram part of his pushchair so I shall be sitting him up today in the cosytoes. I am really worried that he won't sleep as well, can anyone offer me any reassurance that it won't be as bad as I think

Off to mums and babies later for more abuse about not weaning yet!!

Parofleurmapu · 27/11/2008 08:50

No offense taken here sponge, ive had replies like that on other threads

Will try to find olbas oil on similar here

Parofleurmapu · 27/11/2008 09:14

ive just been really sarky and maybe horrible to poster on a weaning thread but OP was asking bout doing mix of BLW and purees and she came on blazing bout BlW:

"At 6 months they don't need to have purees. It is sufficient to just mash stuff up for them. You can spoon feed mashed stuff or let them get stuck in and self feed with their hands and also give them a spoon to play with. This is known as BLW. With BLW you don't have to stick with "finger foods." Babies can eat all sorts of mashed up things with their hands too - think shepherds pie, spag bol, lasagne, fish pie, curry and rice, soup, stew etc."

Me: Soup with their hands!!! hehe (sorry made me laugh
was going to say that OP was asking for ideas to BLW and Puree not a definition of BLW. I got the impression she knows what BLW is?

Thanks guys - HH, A will sleep anywhere if he's tired enough, don't know if that helps!

spongebrainbigpants · 27/11/2008 10:40

I don't know paro, her feedback all seems kosher - email her and ask her why her address is so weird!

goingfor3 · 27/11/2008 10:47

Paro I've never used a nasal aspirator. Have gone thorugh many bottles of Karvol with my three though!

spongebrainbigpants · 27/11/2008 10:48

paro, lol at eating soup with your hands!

OP posts:
whinegums · 27/11/2008 10:48

I've found olbas oil quite good for B's snotty nose too - I put a few drops of the baby version on a tissue and tuck it in his crib.

BDQ - sympathise with you. B has been a bit of a little sod rather demanding of late as well. My back and shoulder is knackered too. I don't want to encourage you to buy more stuff but I've just got a Scootababy hip carrier, and it's fab. Sooooo much more comfortable (for both me and B) than the Babybjorn.

I have enough unwanted 'advice' in RL re weaning, feeding, in fact everything, without venturing onto those boards! Paro, yes, soup with hands of course!!! We're doing purees AND B is not 6 months yet. Bad mummy! But he is loving them, eating three meals a day, and his reflux is loads better. His sleep has improved a bit too, but don't know if that's connected.

Sponge, I agree the poster on your thread re Heinz was being arsey.

spongebrainbigpants · 27/11/2008 10:57

whinegums, glad it wasn't just me misreading it! Some of those women are sooooo smug and make the most outrageous statements about ff babies/mothers who use ff without thinking of the impact of their words on those of us who ff our LOs. It makes me so angry.

Is the hip carrier one that your LO is actually strapped into or one of those hip seats? I'm still looking for an alternative to my BB!

Good to hear B's reflux has improved. Say 10 hail purees to repent for your weaning sins !

OP posts:
whinegums · 27/11/2008 11:27

As has been said before Sponge, it's easy to be offensive on anonymous forums - bet they wouldn't talk such bollocks make those comments in RL.

Scootababy is a strap in carrier - exactly what I need. Idiot proof, hands free and comfy. It was almost £70, but worth every penny. Got it from Big Mama Slings. Ergo was also recommended, and more versatile (hip, front and back) so might suit you better if you want to front carry too?

bitofadramaqueen · 27/11/2008 13:07

Thanks whinegums. Am feeling a bit better now. If it persists I might look inti one of those scootababy carriers.

Off to check out weaning thread rucks! Hope you ok sponge.

Neenztwinz · 27/11/2008 13:25

Ooh yeah those smug comments are so . Love it that we are all causing havoc on other threads. Go Paro!

Neenztwinz · 27/11/2008 13:38

Sponge, i thought your reply to fairladyrantwhatever was very good - it showed what you thought of it without being rude to her (as she had been to you). Why do people bother to post when they don;'t know the answer to your question? They think we are morons.

hedgehog1979 · 27/11/2008 14:56

It was a sucess, Isaac is currently asleep in the pushchair and I found all sorts of features I didn't know it had (DH did the pushchair research)

I have just had a scantimonious (SP) mum at my NCT mums and babes group say she doesn't understand why I have BF for so long, and how I have managed without giving any formula/solids by now, aren't I leaving it a bit too late, and also surely I will stop BF once teeth come through - agh

I thought that I had been really non judgemental about the fact that they all FF and that they all started weaning at 17 weeks. I have even felt uncomfortable about BF in front of them as I know a couple really struggled with mastitis, low supply and tounge tie. It seems you can't win either way

Essie3 · 27/11/2008 15:08

HH Teeth - Iestyn chews now. Ok, so it gives me a sore nipple (one side only!) but perhaps you should stress to the other mums that we're talking about babies, not dogs with razor sharp teeth for tearing meat off bones!! And not many people keep bfing until their babies have a full set of adult teeth. (Or even baby teeth really, but let's not go there...)

Feeling less sorry for myself now - apologies to all for the whingeing! I also met up with UDC and the lovely Dorothy, and PP and cheeky monkey Ryder. Best thing I could have done - I felt so much better for seeing them. Thanks both!

night nanny booked...

systemsaddict · 27/11/2008 15:15

I feel like I've missed out a bit on all the mother-and-baby groups this time round, haven't had time to go really with 2 under 3, or even time to go to hv clinic more than 2 or 3 times; but the plus side is I haven't felt the pressure this time to 'do things right', we are just pottering along as best suits us. Which means, no weaning yet, we'll give it till around 6 months as milk is easier (am now getting the benefits of oversupply as expressing lots at work is easy, makes the early weeks of pain worth it!); she sleeps as and when she gets tired; in the evenings she's still with us about half the time; and we co-sleep lots so I barely notice the night feeds.

So much for my big plans for sleep routines before she was born, we're doing almost completely the opposite! Though I do try to lay her down without sleep cues when she's tired.

We'll do BLW if she will have it as that'll be much easier for us than making up purees, but I have nothing against purees in principle. And I cannot keep track of the order you're supposed to do things in, so we'll just start with a bit of fruit and veg and take it from there.

I just figure one way or another she's going to end up eating food and sleeping through eventually, she won't be exclusively breastfed and waking for feeds when she's 13.

But I just noticed how much of this is about making my life easier - oh dear, I am clearly a very lazy mummy!! but so far she seems to be thriving on it!

aberdeenhiker · 27/11/2008 15:23

sponge I'm horrified by the poster on your thread! Good for you for taking the high ground. I'm not so classy - my first instinct was to type something rude and it's not even my conversation!

Essie, Fraser is biting now too - but fortunately he's not got teeth yet.

Amber and anyone else with non-keen eaters - let me know if you find anything that makes your LOs keen to eat. Fraser's just not into it (his brother was) and I wish I could feed more calories into him!

I think the saddest thing about motherhood is how nasty and rude mothers get about doing things 'their' way. It really is probably just a sign that everyone's insecure, but it's very depressing that instead of banding together, women put each other down. Oh wait - except for here. Everyone on this thread is lovely and restores my faith in motherhood

spongebrainbigpants · 27/11/2008 16:54

That sling looks good - but dh was a bit at the price!

HH, lol at "leaving it too late to wean" - what utter bollocks! How can you leave it too late? Are they suggesting you've condemned Isaac to a lifetime of breast milk!

Neenz, yer she clearly did think I was a moron - patronising cow! AH, I'm not usually that restrained I have to say - believe me my first reply was very different but I deleted before I posted!

BDQ, I'm feeling ok thanks - it's just a very emotive subject and I just can't cope with the smugness of some of those posters sometimes when they have no idea of any of our personal stories, they just assume all ff mums are lazy and stupid .

alipalli · 27/11/2008 17:00

Hedgehog, your group sounds worse than mine. At least no-one has judged me for not weaning yet, unlike yours. My lot are too self absorbed to find out what anyone else is doing.

spongebrainbigpants · 27/11/2008 17:01

Amber, thanks for your response on my ff thread - it was the "artifical" bit that really p*ssed me off tbh !

Oh, and just have to share my very exciting news - my IKEA highchair trays turned up today after FOUR long weeks of battling their customer 'service' department! Result!

Sod it, she didn't care about being rude to me did she?!

Btw, real nappy lovers - new pic on my profile of Alex in one of his rainbow nappies!
