Hello everyone

I haven't been on for ages as I've (again) had no computer/internet access. I've snuck onto DH's fancy-schmancy new computer - he said I'm not allowed to use it as I "kill" computers and if it's not my fault it's Mumsnet's fault.

We've been finally moving the rest of our stuff into this house ( 4.5 years after relocating) and getting books from storage. All 90 boxes of them . We still have about 20 without a home and masses of paper everywhere so I'm feeling rather panicky about all the crap that needs doing. Although organising books together is something that makes us snigger as we bicker about whether to put "The Pretty Women of Paris" under "H" for "hoo-er", "P" or with the books of shame out of sight (with my Jilly Coopers)

DD2 is snotty but fine. We're still not weaning - holding off as long as possible. DD2 has had a vomiting bug and DD1 isn't feeling well either. Winter bugs are the pits.

Sorry haven't caught up on all the posts but love to you all

ThePenguinProject · 18/11/2008 11:55

Neenz - I went to buy tinned peaches (for myself, too lazy to wean here yet) the other day and couldn't believe how expensive they were either.

Neenz (again) - I think you made a good point re the equality thing, sometimes I think I just jump up immediately out of habit (it's what I've been doing all day for the last 5 months). Also DH doesn't always know what he is doing in the same way that I do and he's probably scared I'll jump down his throat if he gets it wrong. As if...

Poppy - 8 x volume sounds about right to me. DH has the tv volume on about 5 if I'm out (normally on 20) because he can't hear R cry. He loves it when I come home because he can turn up the volume again safe in the knowledge that I'll hear any crying.

Media and recession - Rah! I can't belive the irresponsibility of the shadow chancellor saying there is likely to be a run on the pound. If you create headlines like that Mr Osborne, yes there will be.

OK, I'm putting militant PP away for a while (but am happy to pop over with Poppy if you need us Deb), we can bring cream eggs on the way. However I can't guarantee that mischevious PP won't pop up on AIBU or weaning threads.

Deb - Great sneezing tip.

Hello Rolf! Lovely to hear from you. DH has a lot of sci fi books that I make him keep out of sight.

bitofadramaqueen · 18/11/2008 12:05

Deb are you just showing off that you have sun? .

Have very clingy baby on my lap.

I like militant poppy & PP!

I make DH keep loads of books in loft. We now have a one in one out policy on books.

Hi Rolf, sorry to hear about winter bugs.

hedgehog1979 · 18/11/2008 13:09

afternoon all,

Loads appears to have happened here but cannot at all remember all I wanted to say

books DH has made me promise that I will only buy books if I already have something by that author, so I have to rely on others to buy me new authors. I do have loads in the attic as well.

Isaac is quite snuffly at the moment, making v funny sounds when he feeds as I think he is struggling to breathe.

Still getting weird comments from other NCT mums as I haven't started weaning yet 'but he will be 5 months soon' etc, and 'will you stop BF when he gets teeth?' as the only other BF mum has been bitten by her LO.

Don't even get me started on recessions - I work for the bank that started it all last year, and got so fed up with being deemed irresponsible that I started commenting on business blogs.

We appear to go the other way in the Hedgehog household as if Isaac is crying upstairs DH is far more likely to hear him than me, but I think that is coz I tend to sit and watch TV behind the door whereas his chair is next to the door so he can here better

DH is off for the rest of the week so hopefully we will get some stuff (greenhouse, highchair) sorted in the house. Although we are off to Newcastle on Friday - the train from Kings X is 8am -which means we have to leave the house at 5.45, I think I will take Isaac in his sleeping bag and change and feed him on the train.

alipalli · 18/11/2008 13:28

Just lost what I thought was a very witty post . Will try a more succint one this time.

2 ok nights in a row, although DH woke everyone up at 5.50 looking for his deodorant which he now keeps in Ps room .

Is Robert Peston the BBC business editor you were thinking of? Can't stand him in our house.

Liked Mandelson expressing an interest in going on Strictly. Chances are he will have been sacked in time for the next series so it could work out... My PIL is voting for John Sargeant in order to annoy MIL who is a dancing purist.

debinaustria · 18/11/2008 13:52

Rolf - have you found your maternity clothes now then?

bdq - yes I was just showing off, I dosed Ethan with Calpol and he's still asleep - nearly 2 hours

Neenztwinz · 18/11/2008 13:54

Love John Sargeant! He is the best. But I think I want Rachel to win. Hate Lisa Snowdon, she is so fake!

Hey Rolf, have been wondering for ages where you were, kept meaning to post 'where's Rolf' but never remembered when sat here at computer .

Sponge, how hilarious is that reply to your weaning question - 'why don't you go to bed earlier'

I bet you'd never thought of that!

Neenztwinz · 18/11/2008 13:55

PP, Nature's Finest are not in tins, that's one of the best things about them. They are in plastic tubs with lids, tho some would say plastic is worse than tin to put food in. Who knows! (The tubs are good for washing and using to freeze food in when weaning tho)

bitofadramaqueen · 18/11/2008 14:07

deb. S is going through a phase of only napping in my arms, and crying whenever I put him down. It has meant I've spent loads of time one-handed on MN today though. Really should be doing all the other stuff I had planned for the day though...

josey · 18/11/2008 14:29

Hello guys

Forgive me for not trying to catch up, I have missed a thread somewhere along the lines.

Things have been very up and down here.

Last week Olivia was admitted to hospital with blood in her vomit and a temperature of 41.9 which impressed the doctors!!! It just seems to have been a virus and the tube made her nose bleed into her tummy, but it was v scary.

She has also been given the go ahead for the op for a tube to go directly into her tummy, which means I can just top her up if need be when fully weaned. She is loving her grub though.

She had another EEG and the results werent very good.

On the other hand, Im getting a couple of little smiles, she has mastered rolling and her head control has improved, she has also managed to find her own hands so movement range is improving. She has been trying to get into the crawling position and can move herself round the floor in circles

Anyway love to you all and you Los I will try and come on more often, Im just worn out as Olivia hasnt slept at all in 2 weeks with illness

systemsaddict · 18/11/2008 15:04

Hey josey, good to hear from you, have been thinking of you and Olivia. Amazing how Olivia always seems to be able to do far more than her EEGs suggest she is supposed to! Sorry you've had a hard time with illness etc, hope it settles down for a while now.

aberdeenhiker · 18/11/2008 16:08

bitofadramaqueen I got a £10 voucher from Sainsburys for my troubles with their useless eco nappies. Is that about the same? Did they give me a bit more because I have two kids in nappies?

No equal parenting here - we tried really hard when I went back to work when Duncan was born but it was like rowing upstream - not worth the effort. Cory (DH) doesn't find his work as supportive of his commitments to his family (like days off for sick kids) and my work didn't want to promote me because I was a mother (long story - basically they assumed I'd be happier working at a lower level because I had kids) so it was just easier to slide into gender roles. Plus I make a lot less Cory is great with the boys when he's home, it's just that I'm the one who has to juggle my life around their needs while he has to bring in the money.

Josey - Sorry Olivia's been so ill. Fraser's sleep has been brutal lately too because he's been a bit sick, but I imagine it's really exhausting when you've the stress of taking her into hospital on top of everything! She sounds like she's physically ahead of Fraser again he's not good at the crawling in circles yet, just gives up and cries for his brother to come help him.

As for the recession - we bid on a house yesterday and the owner came back asking for £45K more than we offered. He was assuming prices were still going up instead of dropping! His solicitor told our solicitor that the owner is mad. Anyways, we're not moving there! I need to figure something out soon though as we're out of our house on the 19th of December. The trouble is that lots of sellers don't seem to get the fact that prices have dropped. Prices are only down 12% up here though - oil money is cushioning things quite a bit...

alipalli · 18/11/2008 16:19

aberdeen did you see kirstie and phil last night? Scottish prices are much more stable according to them then in other parts of the UK. Welldone on managing to find a buyer for your place makes your cleaning worthwhile now?

Hi Josey. Poor you with the hospital admission. Olivia is well ahead of Peter physically by the sounds of things. No rolling here and no crawling in circles either.

We have just got back from swimming and Peter is snoring in his car seat like an old man!

Neenztwinz · 18/11/2008 16:53

Hi Josey, lovely to hear an update from you. It seems Olivia is doing all the things my two are! Hope you get some rest soon.

Essie, I have posted a status on my facebook in honour of you. I feel a bit that I am so impressed with all the Welsh but really I am!!!

Feeling very jealous of all you London ladies meeting up

hedgehog1979 · 18/11/2008 16:54

josey good to hear from you, Would second what others have said Isaac is nowhere near rolling/crawling yet.

I also like the idea of Madelson on SCD, Would love Jodie Kidd to get to the final as I always support the tall ones being that I am a 6 footer myself.

AH sending you good vibes for the house hunting.

DH has taken Isaac to Carshalton for work duties and then I am off to Guides later so I have had a lovely long bath, expressed some more milk and can now catch up on some sky plussed grown up tv

aberdeenhiker · 18/11/2008 17:16

alipali - prices definitely more stable here from what I'm hearing about England! 12% isn't much as we saw a 30% gain in 2007 - so we're still way higher than 2006 prices.

I just made some parsnip and apple puree for Fraser and he screamed the whole time I was cooking. This seems to negate the whole "good mummy" status of home cooking. I think I might revert to jars... (there's not a lot of time here for cooking so it's not like I can squeeze it in during a nap! Duncan is home whenever Fraser sleeps....).

poppy34 · 18/11/2008 17:38

josey great to hear from you although sorry for all stress with hospital.
and olivia's crawling etc way in excess of anything here.

bdq/deb sorry for clingers.. its a bit of a pain when you get a day like that as ok its good for mn but painful to get anything else done (have found the bubba sling ueseful for these days although do think it feels a bit insecure).

broke my plea and went and got edie weighed - growth slowing back down but still ok but amazingly hv said to wait re weaning til 6 months if she was going ok/sleeping ok on just milk. is this a first - hv giving official advice ?

Robert peston - militant poppy is quite happy to go round and say "OI PESTON no.. stick to written form of journalism, you are to broadcasting what I am to the tidy house movement"

josey · 18/11/2008 17:39

Thank you - she isnt crawling just attempting to get in the possition and rapidly moving the limbs and pulling on the carpet, she needs to work on the head more though as although its improving its very weak still.

The EEG has shown signs of seizures which has upsest me as we thought we were clear of that!

You would all cringe at the things I have to feed Olivia, I have to cook with olive oil at butter and cream to her food to add calories!! we are sticking to baby packets at the moment and have had some carrot with rice butter and milk and banana. Oh we have also partaken in a little milky bar button or 2

AH pitty im too far out or you could come stay next to me lol!

aberdeenhiker · 18/11/2008 17:49

josey I'm still supposed to be cooking that way for Duncan (29 months old now!)! The official nutritionist advice was to fry everything We will come out to you for a morning play session soon though! A smaller version of the london meet up!

goingfor3 · 18/11/2008 18:25

josey DS grabbed some chips from my plate on sunday and a profiterole today . Olivia does really sound like she is trying so hard.

I got a call to pick dd up from school at lunchtime today as she was feeling sick. SHe had a long sleep and seems much better now, I think she needed to sleep off the last bit of her illness.

Lucky ladies getting the sainsburies vouchers. I had to make a complaint to durex todaya nd they are putting a replacement in the post tommorow - would be nice if they put in a little extra as compensation

bitofadramaqueen · 18/11/2008 18:39

LOL at your durex complaint G43

Hey Josey I was just think about you earlier and then you posted! Good to hear from you and glad to hear Olivia is making progress. I think she's earned a milky bar button or two

[stunned emoticon] poppy at HV advice. My HV came the other day for the PND check/weaning chat etc. I got given my bookstart bag/toothbrush (with no advice as to when to start brushing, massaging gums etc). As for the weaning - she told me to pick up some weaning leaflets from the surgery .

AH my nectar points are worth about a fiver, but I hadn't bought anything, I was just complaining about them not stocking nature babycare nappies anymore. I told them I certainly wouldn't be spending my nectar points on their own brand eco brand until they stopped trying to squeeze out the limited opposition .

Equal parenting... Have to say that DH is very good and often takes S to supermarket etc for the shopping to give me a break. Even when he's 'in charge' of S though, I cant help but help him out. He'll be in for a shock when I go back to work and he really is on his own with him 1 day a week.

Right, have been on here far too much today - Laura will come and tell me off for not studying . Have a good evening all.

poppy34 · 18/11/2008 20:00

isn't your complaint about 14 months too late g43?

spongebrainbigpants · 18/11/2008 20:18

P&P, are you coming to our London meet up tomorrow? I don't know whether you're on the email list and if you've been included in the round robin. We're meeting at 1pm in Giraffe again.

Re: equality, we're also in the 1950s household! Dh earns far more than me (that makes him sound really rich - he's not, I'm a public servant so it's not difficult to earn more than me! ) so he will be working f/t and I'm hoping to be SAHM. Having said that, he does loads of housework and loads of stuff with Alex (including night feeds!) so have no complaints on that score!

Rolf, at the number of books! I thought my dh was bad!

Neenz, KWYM about the responses to my weaning question - and how smug is that bloody MrsJamin?! Unbelievable . . .

josey, good to hear from you and hear of Olivia's progress. Sorry to hear that she still appears to be having seizures.

As for Strictly, I'm cheering for Austin!

OP posts:
debinaustria · 18/11/2008 20:46

evening everyone

Josey - lovely to hear from you, I often think about you and wonder how you're getting on. Sorry to hear the EEG results weren't great but physically it sounds like she's doing really well. If anyone deserves a choc button it's Olivia!

BDQ - sorry you've also had clingy baby, Ethan slept for more than 2 hours after his calpol. Thankfully he's gone to bed OK now and I can't hear any coughing/sneezing. He has been quite sick today - I think it's all the snot that he swallows instead of blowing out like we do.

Poppy - love the comment to g43 about her Durex complaint - lol

AH - Good luck with the house hunting, will you start looking at places to rent just in case or not yet.

Alli - Ethan doesn't roll either

Equality - Nigel and I have our own roles and pretty much keep to that. I do housework (in our apartment), cooking, ironing etc... Nigel sorts out anything technical, all the money side of things, bins, recycling, majority of the snow clearing, updating website , but as we're both at home we share out things with the boys which is great.

poppy34 · 18/11/2008 21:07

sponge- am so with you on austin...

right have red wine and watching tv...who knows militant poppy could be back ?
