Quick question - DH has really struggled to get Isaac to take a bottle today and he has only about 4 oz since 2pm. Any suggestions, we have tried the bigger teats, tesco beakers - anything else anyone can suggest. Or should DH just persevere?

poppy34 · 18/11/2008 21:25

it might be a phase.. try sitting him in a different position or in his bouncer, against cushions. Edie has had phases of doing this on and off for last few weeks. Do it by talking to him/singing to him -try not to let him see you're stressed, give it half an hour max then stop - try again tomorrow

Essie3 · 18/11/2008 21:35

Evening all, carpal tunnel is rotten tonight and v. painful so a short post. But it's not painful enough to stop me being bitchy...
Frenemy - she is now suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome. But she's FAR WORSE than me because she has to wear splints. And said that mine is clearly not v. bad because I don't wear splints. Er, HOW EXACTLY am I supposed to pick up/feed/play/care for Iestyn with splints? but that's because Tim has to open jars for me and make sure any jars I might want to use during the day are open. And I'm in a fair bit of pain in the morning.
Why does she annoy me so much? I just can't work it out. I'm not v. sympathetic to patheticness, but she really gets me angry! She'll suffer when her baby is born - no more taking to her bed because she's feeling a bit tired. No more visiting the GP with her bruises...
Poppy are you coming tomorrow? You were unaccounted for in my list. And bring back Militant Poppy.
Neenz we'll have to persuade you to London to party with us! You, me and Rolf could do a little meet up though, somewhere like Chester? Also v. flattered about the admiration. Obviously being bilingual means I am hugely clever and talented. Not!

So much for the carpal tunnel. But hands on fire now.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 18/11/2008 22:22

Have skimmed so forgive me if I don't catch up properly but so nice to see you here Josey and sounds like Olivia is making great strides.

Whoever was talking about books I just go and buy but we are equal in our working and wages etc.

Recession - I am sorry to here your news DEB but wierdly it hasn't happened here yet, we have had our busiest November to date and have turned down 11 let rooms for when we are away and people have started to book for next year.

So we are going to start to wean tomorrow, S is now 22 weeks and can only manage 3-4 ozs a feed before he throws everything back up, but still sleeps beautifully during the night. I missed the weigh in today but couldn't face the HV who although saying that they come out and do a weaning talk has failed to make any contact. I don't think he is getting enough milk so will go for some high fat foods, so avocados will be on the shopping list.

And on Thursday we are trundling up to the airport and fly out Friday morning, we have decided to check in the night before as I can't think of anything worse then standing in a queue with nearly 3 yr old and a baby at 6 in the morning. I think I am very prepared for the flight, I know S will be OK but worried about Edie.

bitofadramaqueen · 18/11/2008 22:34

HH - S went through a phase of fussing with his bottle. I was advised not to worry about it or try and force him to take more if he didn't want it. Within a few days he was back to normal (today has guzzled 4 8oz bottles).

Other suggestions that have worked for me - make sure tv is turned off/no distractions, take a break from feeding for 20 minutes to have some play/change nappy etc.

Enjoy London meetup - really wish I'd had some spare time to arrange to meetup with you all when I was in London at the w/e. Maybe next time!

Good luck with the weaning 5gomad.

debinaustria · 18/11/2008 22:47

5gomad - have a great holiday

katyjo · 18/11/2008 22:59

Hi All

Was lovely to see you at waterbabies today whinegums I think Mia enjoyed it but we'll see how she is next week. Hopefully we'll get to have a chat next time!

Josey So pleased to hear from you, the hospital visit must have been a bit traumatic. It must be so lovely to get smiles from Olivia, I know all babies smiles are special but hers are extra special.

Hedgehog I wouldn't worry too much, Mia sometimes hardly takes anything out of her bottle (usually when we are out and she is being nosey) but she makes it up on the next one, so I don't usually make a fuss, just make sure there is extra in the next bottle.

Essie Love your frenemy chat, I have someone in my life who is very similar, makes me want to jump up and down and shout ARGHHHH...but the stories are far to complicated!

katyjo · 18/11/2008 23:01

Five Have a great holiday! We flew to Cyprus with Hamish in sept and he loved it (about same age as edie) He keeps asking when we can go on an aeroplane again. So I'm sure Edie will love it too!

Rolf · 19/11/2008 06:07

Deb - lol at maternity clothes! NO - still haven't found them!!

Neenz and Essie would love to meet up. Restricted by school hours but otherwise definitely up for it.

Josey - sorry to hear about the EEG although Olivia's movement sounds excellent. Thea isn't rolling or moving in a circle.

Can't sleep as DD1 has snuck into our bed and is feverish and snoring. Who posted about condoms? DD1 found ours and opened all of them! I think that was the same day she coloured herself with yellow highlighter so she looked like a Simpson!

debinaustria · 19/11/2008 07:06

Rolf - hope dd1 is better this morning - lol about the condoms.

systemsaddict · 19/11/2008 07:18

Argh - Caitlin has been very picky about restrictive clothes since her hip harness days and last night flat-out refused to settle in any sleepsuit. I tried improvised pyjamas with soft trousers but the band pressed on her tummy and she woke up screaming with wind. She ended up sleeping in just a bodysuit, so kept waking up cold despite careful arrangements of blankets etc, in and out of our bed all night, felt like going back to newborn days. She might be reverse cycling a bit too - she probly isn't getting as much milk at nursery as she does with me. That I can live with (more night feeds = less pressure on pumping output) but the nightwear thing needs solving! Will have to look for some loose pyjamas today - or does anywhere do nighties nowadays??

on plus side, had hip x-ray yesterday to check and all fine, so it was worth it!

Essie your carpal tunnel sounds awful. Will it settle down? How will you manage when you go back to work? I have colleagues with RSI using speech-to-text software successfully, they say you end up writing differently (composing in your head rather than on screen iykwim) but it can work well once you're used to it.

debinaustria · 19/11/2008 08:13

SA - sorry to hear you've had a rough night, I think I've seen nighties somewhere - maybe an ebay shop?

It's snowing here, our webcam isn't great(new one is ordered) but if you right click and zoom to full screen you can see the snow falling. That's one if the views from the house. webcam

debinaustria · 19/11/2008 08:16

sa found this but only in newborn size

debinaustria · 19/11/2008 08:19

Found some here

Parofleurmapu · 19/11/2008 08:26

Hi Guys
Had a couple of busy days and have only been browsing through posts

Hiya Josey, nice to hear from you both xx

Bdq and Essie Ill bring over a pack of those pots for you both if you like Think they are about 8 euros so 6/7 pound? Ill check prices later. And yes they keep food really warm and cold to if need be
My email is yeahrozzaonly at yahoo dot co dot uk if you want to forward your addresses

Whinegums think it was you that offered to send me some babyrice etc well thanks but as im coming over to England for xmas ill get some then but later on in year i might need some if i run out

Re Nursery feeling better now and I will be going back on 1st as rehab program will only be every 15 days now so needs must!! I know she will be alright its me!! And thats really silly coming from a teacher who spends her life telling parents dont worry he'she ĺl be fine!!!

Well off swimming will try and catch up more later

Neenztwinz · 19/11/2008 09:07

I have only skimmed cos shouldn't be on here at all, should be getting ready to go to my mum's, but just wanted to brag that both twins slept through from 10pm to 8am!! It is only about the third time Esther has done that in the last month. Don't know why she did, she ate OK yesterday but not great but as my mum says Theo is bigger so needs more food (I reckon he eats about three times what she does!). So maybe she did just have enough food. Think I will try avocadoes too.

Essie, I got the reusable wipes sorted yesterday and I am already a big fan! And yes I think anyone who is bilingual is very clever! Would love a meet-up with you and Rolf, me and Rolf live on the same train line IYSWIM so we could arrange to catch the same train to wherever you fancy meeting. Maybe Liverpool so we are closer for Rolf to get back for school?

LOL at complaint to Durex. And being 14 mth too late . Why the complaint may I ask? I have bought two boxes of 12 since the babies were born and we are just coming to the end of them which I don't think is too bad!! That averages about once a week

Got to go, have a good day everyone.

bitofadramaqueen · 19/11/2008 09:16

Morning all, clingy baby on my knee again!

Man came to read elec meter yest - thought he seemed v happy... when he left I noticed S had pulled down my top and had hand in my bra

Paro that's brilliant, I'll email you. I haven't seen any pots here that keep food warm so far and I wont fit one of those food warming flasks in my small but sylish changing bag .

Essie3 · 19/11/2008 09:19

Fussing baby - Systems - I have a nightie type thing for Iestyn from John lewis. It was a gift - called something like cuddle suit, cuddle robe (no, they're towels)...I think it's trying to be a thin grobag, with no bottom on it.

Laters!

bitofadramaqueen · 19/11/2008 09:22

SA have you tried a grobag - less chance of waking up cold?

systemsaddict · 19/11/2008 09:38

Ooh thanks for links Deb! The sweet peanut things def. look worth a try, and I'll look at John Lewis too Essie. BDQ I would be so happy if she would sleep in a grobag! makes night feeds so much easier and I had lots of lovely ones from Liam, but she thinks they are instruments of torture because they restrict her legs a bit; have been finding deserving pregnant friends to pass them on to!

spongebrainbigpants · 19/11/2008 09:53

Hi guys, quick post before I get ready to head off to London.

SA, Alex is the same - hates grobags! Hoping that baby no 2 will like them or they will all go unused .

Small breakthrough here - Alex only woke once last night (2.30am) took 5 ozs of water and then slept through til 7.30am!

Progress!

He is now asleep upstairs on my bed, which is where he has his morning nap - and he's sleeping on his tummy. This is the first time he's ever done this and I wonder whether he'd be more comfortable doing this in future - although still nervous about sleeping him on his tummy .

Well, lovely day, off to get ready!

goingfor3 · 19/11/2008 09:53

SA Greenbaby sell sleepgowns in size 6 - 12 months. A grobag with sleeves would also work in the cold weather.

Neenz bit to say but we found something battery operated in the supermarket made by Durex and it didn't work. Was quite pricey too so I call and asked for a replacement. My sex drive has really come back and I have actually been really enjoying myself without the pressure of baby making!

pureeandpearls · 19/11/2008 09:54

MOrning all- utterly knackered as despite the fact that babypearls sleeps really well, I can't sleep without DH....three days in and I'm exhausted. Now he says he might not be done in Cardiff until Friday evening which means I will have to drive to Chester by myself. EEEEEEK!!

Didn't realise there was a meet up today and have made other plans.....put me on the email list and I'll know for next time: a helping hand at inbox dot com.

Right-off to make a cake.

spongebrainbigpants · 19/11/2008 09:57

GF3, PMSL at the "battery operated product"!!! Looking forward to my sex drive returning after baby no 3 - thank god we don't need to have sex to have anymore cos otherwise Alex would definitely be an only!

P&P, will email you. Sorry you're having such a crap week .

Well have to report that although only having had 4oz between 2pm and bedtime (9ish) Isaac still slept through til 7am, although I was very sore as I forgot to express the second missed feed. So obviously I am feeding him too much

Tony (DH) thinks that the reason that Isaac won't take anything is because I am not sterilising the breast pump between every pumping (I pump before each feed on the days that I need EBM). Does anyone else know about this?

Lovely sunny morning here - so not jealous of your snow deb and is all good as I have to take the car to 'fail' its MOT then walk back.

Enjoy your meet London Ladies
