Thought as the messages were coming in thick & fast I´d start new thread. Don´t know if it´ll work though. Fingers crossed.

ThePFJ, hope Jack feels better soon. I can only imagine it being stressful, as they seem to have these symptoms for so many things, so always having to keep the potential serious ones in mind must be hard. Do the doctors thing it might become easier as he gets older, or is this something to always watch really closely?

Here I've washed 3 days of dishes (only washed bottles properly and rinsed dishes and cups yesterday, didn't have the strength to do it properly), 2 loads of washing, and yet it still looks a bit messy. Once R wakes up I'll put some of his toys back in his room and pack the dry clothes away. Can't be bothered to vacuum. Oh hell, and still have to go to town. Urgh.

Ah, before I forget, I've got a question for all ye wise ones:
(A really, really stupid one, I know...) How do you dress babies for winter??? E.g. indoors it's warm(ish - not too much) so he'll wear long trousers and long sleeved t-shirt material top. When we go out - do you put this all-in-one thing on top of that? And if so, do you take it off once in, for example, shop, so that they don't overheat? Slightly different in SA in that you drive most places, so they're not subjected to cold so long outside, but once inside, central heating's normally not that warm inside, so all the babies I knew were dressed warmer for indoors, but not warm enough for outdoors here. Hmm, I'm babbling (something which I seem to do all the time lately). Might be worth ignoring most of the above and stop by the "...for winter???" bit.

ThePFJ · 22/10/2008 13:30

Anyone for a sausage sarnie and some peanut M&M's?

ThePFJ · 22/10/2008 13:35

Hi Sal, sympathy on the housework...

I am not an old wise one but I'll tell you my plan...

If Jacks in top and trousers will make sure he has socks on and a hat and then put on his all in one when we go out. Or a vest and baby grow with all in one over the top. If a shop is warm after a while inside will open the all in one up at the front and remove Jack's hat if needed. I think the rule is to make sure baby's head and feet are toastie and remember too warm is ok because you can strip off clothes, but too cool and you risk them catching cold and you can't add layers you dont have. Better they are too warm than too cold. Plus the wind can really chill them, so watch out for that.

Er.. thats my plan anyways.

ThePFJ · 22/10/2008 13:44

Oh and Sal.. the Jack question.. Jack has another hosp appointment on Mon to discuss a possible operation to correct his disfunction not sure if that would be now or when he's 3 ..we havent got all the info yet. If the op is succesful then all this will go away. However they might say at the appointment he has to take antibiotic for life and no operation....
Have no idea yet but will keep you all up to date.

SalLikesCoffee · 22/10/2008 14:16

Ah, thanks for that, PFJ! I'll adopt your plan, sounds good to me.

Will pray that everything goes well on Tuesday.

Hmm, have to go change the 6th dirty nappy of the day... (changed one 5 minutes ago! )

scorpio1 · 22/10/2008 14:18

Sal - Mimi has a vest, and her outfit for each day on - normally top, skirt & tights. Then on top to go out you either put on all in one or coat and shoes (well bootie things, in mimis case pink uggs )

You don't take it off in shops, but maybe in cafe and deffo when you get home. better a cross baby being woken up, than one that overheats in their sleep....

scorpio1 · 22/10/2008 14:18

if his neck at the back is sweaty then he is too hot.

SalLikesCoffee · 22/10/2008 14:25

Ah cool, thanks for that! Hehehe, Mimi sound's just adorable, I want to see pics of her in her uggs, hehehe. I haven't really done shoes with R yet, only socks. H&M had some pretty ones with non-slip soles, so he wears that most of the time.

ThePFJ · 22/10/2008 14:30

We had cute shoes for Jack but he grew out of them while in hosp and never got wear them... poo.

scorpio1 · 22/10/2008 14:36

they are very soft and really warm for toes!

ThePFJ · 22/10/2008 16:31

Jacks not a happy baby at all today... lots of crying and have stripped him down to his vest to bring down his temp and given calpol.... he's sooooo grumpy. Poor mite.
Been more poo as well.. so think he has this tummy bug thingie like Peachy said...

SalLikesCoffee · 22/10/2008 17:52

Hope you have an easy night tonight, PFJ.

Have to run - meeting dh in town for Aida. Have been waiting to see whether R ok or not, but he's luckily perfectly fine and his babysitter will be here any sec now. Don't know why I worry so much, she'll probably know better what to do anyway, but I always imagine they need their moms when ill. Magic powers and all that.

Night all.

SalLikesCoffee · 22/10/2008 23:50

Nonono, where's everyone? I wanted to catch up with all I've missed while away. That's a sure sign that I should get a life, right? Oh ok then.

Had a great night out, although SO not used to walk in high heels anymore. Everything wobbled - some parts could be blamed on too many cookies, but ankles just out of practice! Oh, and I've completely forgotten what kinds of weirdos are on the train this time of night! Something to be said for being home before it gets dark!

FrankenSoph73 · 23/10/2008 09:25

Morning all. Pleased you had a great time Sal. It's strange being out in the dark isn't it!
PFJ: both Sam and DS1 suffer from one very watery eye. DS1 doesn't have it as often now but Sam's is teary most of the day. Nothing to worry about unless the sleep goes a horrible colour!
Sam had his 6 mnth check-up & jabs yesterday. He now weighs 7.030 kg (15lbs 2oz - I think) and is 68 cms. Nurse & Paediatrician (sp?) were pleased with him & next check-up in Jan.

Thats great Soph He seems to be coming along really well!

Mimi is back to proper sleeping, thank god. Next on list is bottle taking. NOT FUN.

I had lots of cocktails last night - blue ones, red ones, skittles one....nice! Not hungover though and was home in bed at 11pm so thats ok.

Am home alone all weekend (oooh what a shock!) so not the most fun in the world, especially as Reilly isnt staying at his dads because they are having their engagaement party and his father will apparently be too hungover to have him priorities, anybody........

scorpio1 · 23/10/2008 10:01

OMG Mimi just got up on all fours and started rocking

SalLikesCoffee · 23/10/2008 10:33

Morning everybody!

Wonderful news, Soph!

Scorpio, sounds like you had a great (and well deserved if you ask me!) night. Sucks a bit having to do weekend on your own, you're a stronger person than I am. And more grown up as well, as I am prone to sulking and feeling rather sorry for myself in such situations! Poor Reilly too, though you're obviously a great mom, so that kind of makes up for it I guess.
And oh my word, almost crawling!!!

The babysitter ironed all the shirts in the house while R was sleeping last night (it was a mountain load). If I ever rob a bank I'm buying her the flat next door and blackmailing asking her to stay on full time.

R's nappies seems to have settled down, so I hope we're all good now. A question to everyone - should I still keep him out of nursery tomorrow? I don't want to risk infecting anyone else, and the advice doesn't seem to be consistent - some sources say no loose stools 24 hrs, whereas others say 48. Ideas? I don't have anything on tomorrow, so would be easy enough to keep him at home, but he seems to like it, so I don't want to keep him away if not necessary.

I'm going to attempt that silver Art Clay today (or one piece for a start anyway). As it's so expensive I'm rather nervous, but I guess I have to start some time. The texture is apparently close to sugar paste, so I've already made green dinosaurs (ok, one) the other day Thought it's a cheaper medium to test on.

scorpio1 · 23/10/2008 10:35

I would suggest 48 hours as an all clear. There is nothing worse than parents taking their dc to nursery, and then passing on things to other children because they put them back asap.

scorpio1 · 23/10/2008 10:36

I'm so used to doing weekends alone by now, i do miss DH but i'm used to doing dc alone. And he is very good when he returns

SalLikesCoffee · 23/10/2008 10:43

Ok great, I'll let them know. Thank you very much. Re the passing on to other children - yes, that's exactly what I was worried about, especially in a nursery something like that must be horrible when it spreads! For all I know it might only have been his teeth, because he never vomited and his appetite wasn't affected at all (but then again, I think neither floods nor fire will affect his... ) and I think dh and I was food poisoning, but I don't want to risk it, especially as the bugs seems to be going around a lot recently.

FrankenSoph73 · 23/10/2008 11:00

Scorpio - cocktails, I remember those Pleased you had a great night but bummer about the weekend. Sam was trying to get up on all fours at nursery the other day. Unfortunately because his neck still isn't quite strong enough to support his head fully he was using the top of his head for leverage He did it at home the other day & bless him it was so funny to watch, especially as there were all these grunts of frustration to go with it!
Sal - deffo 48 hrs, just in case. Good luck with the silver art, sounds fab!

LOL Soph!!! I can imagine!

DH got a £60 fine and 3 points yesterday for holding his phone whilst driving. Knobber.

FrankenSoph73 · 23/10/2008 11:25

Oh dear Scorpio
Chip day, chip day, yay ....... but fish, yuk! Fingers crossed they've got some chicken left over from the other day!

scorpio1 · 23/10/2008 11:28

We have hardly any food in the house, need to go shopping tonight. Will have sandwiches and fruit for lunch i think. And sausage mash and sweetcorn for tea....mimi loves meat !

Time is going so fast this morning! Haven't really done much, have to get J from nursery in 20 mins already. It's half term here, they go back a week monday.

FrankenSoph73 · 23/10/2008 11:32

Gosh Scorpio 2 weeks half term??? I thought we were lucky in getting a full week. I'm at a loss as to what to do for dinner as well, can't really afford to order another takeaway this week. Sam likes chicken, am trying him on red meat at the weekend.
