Littlerach

Come on then............what are you all getting your DD's/DS's for their birthdays?

littlerach · 16/05/2005 14:42

Probably some kind of rocking horse or other animal.
But she gets all of DD1's old stuff so need nothing!
BTW, DD1 got a wagon of mega blocks for her first birthday from us and loved playing with them for yeays. Not the most exciting gift but well used.

Is E the only one with no teeth yet?

She hates crawling now and likes to pull herself up to the coffee table and gurn at us all! And she is even more expert in stealing food.

Springchicken · 16/05/2005 14:57

My Evie only has 1 tooth too, although i think she is getting a top one at the mo. Bloody hurts when she gets my finger or chin!

She thinks its funny when she is crawling and i go to pick her up she tries to scurry of laughing away, she thinks its hysterical.
She too is standing up, terrifies me but DP says she must learn. She stands up against the patio doors with her face squished right up against it when i pop out in the garden, she is soo cute!

tew · 16/05/2005 15:03

Is Florence completely idle? Can sit like a little budha, but no signs of wanting to crawl or anything!

Bit my finger at the w/e (my fault, I put it in her mouth) and drew blood, won't be doing that again!

Springchicken · 16/05/2005 15:07

Not idle at all Tew. My DD just crawled out of the blue, i so wasn't expecting it.

I had actually been sitting for weeks before saying that i bet she wouldn't crawl as she hadn't done it yet, then one day she just done it with no warning signs at all.

Am trying to put my foot down with her biting - our families seem to think it is OK for her to bite them in a playful way but we have lots of neices and nephews and i don't want her thinking it is OK to bite them or any other kids.
The adults think it's OK because it doesn't hurt them as much.

Sponge · 16/05/2005 15:08

You're lucky litterach, Harry has 6 teeth and he's a vicious little biter. I'm covered in bruises.
Hadn't really thought about birthday presents. We have dd's 5th in a couple of weeks so concentrating on that right now - and she knows what she wants and how to tell you .
I'm sure we'll get him some kind of boy's ride on type thing or something like that. To be honest he changes so much every day and it's still 2.5 months away so I think we'll wait and see what he's up to a bit closer to the time.

Sponge · 16/05/2005 15:11

I know SK, we've started yelling (it really does hurt) and saying no very firmly when Harry bites, but he just looks a bit surprised, grins and then bites you again. Hey ho. I guess we'll just have to wait till he's a bit older for discipline to kick in.

tew · 16/05/2005 15:17

Think to be fair to Florence she didn't mean to bite me, just was rather suprised to find stupid mummy's finger in her mouth when she was happy having a tantrum! But I agree, if it turns into a habbit when she's older, will definitely clamp down!

sweetkitty · 16/05/2005 19:51

hi all

Good to see you SC. We were planning to get married on my 30th birthday this year but thats been postponed yet again, maybe yours will be too

Already said congrats to Eshay on the Due in Jan 06 thread can't quite believe it still, like Abbie I only had a gut feeling no symptoms as such yet. Glad I'm not the only mad one taking the plunge.

Abbie's doing great still doesn't crawl as such but gets around by rocking like a seal it's so funny. She's still got 6 teeth and likes to bite as well, as soon as she bites a nipple booby goes away she's not as bad as she was. She's eating loads more now and is now down to only 2 breastfeeds a day. Such a little madam always wanting to feed herself, I've starting giving her bits of food on a baby fork now to get her used to it.

bunny2 · 16/05/2005 20:31

Sorry to gatecrash - am looking for Quacks!

Springchicken good to see your news - glad it is all going so well for you and your darling DD

Quacks, thanks so much for your message - lovely to hear from me old mate! Iam having such a lovely time with dd, she was worth all the stress and effort of ttc. My body is still playing silly buggers though - am off for a d&c tomorrow to try and sort out horrendous bleeding!

Springchicken · 17/05/2005 11:40

Hi Bunny, glad your doing OK and your precious DD

Just had evie's 6-12 month check. I was pretty happy with everything the HV said apart from she told me that DD should be drinking her milk from a beaker.
Now i thought it was only juice she should have from a beaker and that Milk was fine from a bottle.
Anyone else been told this or doing this?

Eshay · 17/05/2005 11:54

Yep, Thomas never has a bottle anymore at all. Just cups. Makes him look so grown-up

Sponge · 17/05/2005 12:21

Harry has water from a beaker but still has his milk from a bottle. I think it's fine to stick with bottles for milk up to a year and then move to cups - that's what I did with dd and plan to do again.
He drinks better from a bottle at the moment and I still want to make sure that plenty of milk goes down the inside rather than the outside of him .

Eshay · 17/05/2005 20:46

I was very short earlier today so I'm back.

Tew - I do have a very light sleeping bag which I use during the day when Thomas has a nap with his clothes on. It's quite warm in his room already and it's not even high summer yet. Unfortunately I can't tell you how many tog it is as it doesn't say. It's just a thin layer of cotton, really. I bought it in Holland and I've just realised I've never heard any Dutch person mention togs at all. We have either winter or summer duvets and that's it. Ha ha, we're such simple folk.

Springchicken, I recognised your story about Evie being at the window and you being outside, on the other side. I did exactly the same earlier this week and Thomas thought it was hilarious. What he liked best was when I put the hose on the window. He just stood there laughing his little head off.

I'm glad to read many other babies are going through a biting phase too. Thomas likes to bite in your chest or leg while he's cuddling! At one point both DH and I had a bruise in exactly the same spot. Luckily he hasn't done it for more than a week now so maybe he's past it now. I'm still scared when he comes for a cuddle, though. The boy has no less than 8 teeth so it really hurts!

Thomas has been waking up a bit earlier recently. he always used to go until 7.30 or sometimes 7 but these days he wakes up around 6.30 or even earlier if I'm unlucky. I wonder if he needs to sleep less during the day. or could it just be the mornings being lighter?

Sponge · 23/05/2005 17:19

Goodness we've been quiet girls.

We had dd's 5th birthday party yesterday and the present opening was such a nightmare. Loads of plastic doll type toys with tiny little bits, all of which Harry is anxious to eat. We're going to have to be so vigilant with him now. Probably the only solution is to tell dd she can't play with her toys outside her room and he can't go in there but that seems a bit sad.
Worst of all was that he managed to get hold of a little sachet of some kind of silica gel (I think) and bit it open before we noticed. "Caution do not eat" written on it and him with bits in his mouth . I think I managed to get it all out but was a bit worrying. And he was sick in the night last night which hasn't happened for ages. Could be just that he ate loads, and probably some new things with the party food etc - hopefully we haven't poisoned him, however mildly.

OMG, Sponge. I hope Harry is all right. That must have been so frightening. And the balancing act on the highchair too, dinosaur.

I received a letter to go see the GP about Thomas' diarrhoea that he had 2 weeks ago. We had sent a sample to the lab and now the doc wants to discuss the reults with me. I also received a letter from the council saying that they have been informed (standard practice) that my son has been suffering from Campylobacter, which is a food related illness. Strange that the letter from the council arrived before I've seen the GP... Anyway, so Thomas had some sort of food poisoning and I will probably be told to be more hygenic! But I am! I personally think that Thomas got this bug from sitting in our lawn, where the neighbour's cat likes to poo! we'll see what the gp has to say about that theory.

He seems to have given up biting us, he now prefers the table and the dishwasher. He is so cute because he now understands the word 'no' and reacts to it. And then he'll try again. He is communicating so much more these days. He doesn't really talk, but he tries to copy things I say and he loves shaking his head and saying 'nanananana' when he doesn't like something. And it's even more fun when I nod my head and go 'yes yes yes'.

sweetkitty · 24/05/2005 15:42

Aww Eshay your poor DS Campylobacter is a very nasty bug to have, it's usually found in undercooked and raw chicken but can be found in cat and dog faeces so you could be right about the cat pooing on the lawn although most cat prefer dirt as they like to scratch and cover their mess.

All's well here Abbie's doing great she's down to 2 brestfeeds a day morning and night. I'm hoping to wind down by the time she's a year that was my plan all along I feel a years enough presonally. Anyway DB will need my boobs soon enough.

Been packing all morning, Abbie has been "helping" no fun trying to pack a house up whilst looking after a 10 month old. I'm usually too tired at night to do it. We move on Saturday so it's all systems go right now.

Sponge · 24/05/2005 17:07

Good luck with the move SK

Harry's fine. I don't think he really ate any of the stuff but it was a bit of a scare.
He's tried to climb out of high chairs too Dino. At home we have one of those dangly ones that clip to the table so he can't get out but the couple of times he's been in a proper one we've had to strap him in tight and even then he does his best to tip it over.

He also understands no, but just grins at you and carries on doing whatever it was. Shakes his head too and then thinks it's hilarious if you nod back. Very cute all this begining to interact. He's mastered stairs now (up not down) so must get those stair gates up.

Eshay · 25/05/2005 20:33

Today Thomas went to nursery for an hour as a sort of introduction. His key worker seems really nice and Thomas must have liked her as they were happily playing when I arrived to collect him. I was expecting tears or excitement upon seeing me but he just looked up and smiled, then continued banging his blocks together. She said that he cried for a minute when he realised I had left but it didn't last long. My brave boy.

I felt very strange when I was on my own. I haven't left Thomas very often so I felt like a big part of me was missing. Tomorrow he will go for two hours. What am I going to do with myself?

littlerach · 25/05/2005 20:50
