Two hourly nursery trial went less wonderful than the first visit. Thomas cried a bit more and when I arrived he burst into tears. He made so much noise I thought he was going to spew. It must be so exhausting for the little ones to start nursery as he was sleeping in a pram when I got there. It wasn't time for his nap yet and moreover, he hardly ever falls asleep in his pram anymore. This means I was screwed for the rest of the afternoon though as he felt he had had his nap and was up until bedtime.

This morning I dropped him off for an all morning practice session. We enjoyed the wak there as it was sunny and Thomas played with some leaves. However, the mood changed when we went inside as he knew he was going to be left again. He cried before I had even put his bag away. I get to pick him up again at 1. What a long time... i had a nice bath but I'm a bit bored and lonely now...

Sponge · 31/05/2005 10:08

Oh dear Eshay, poor you.
This is a difficult age to start nursery as they have started to get quite attached. Harry cries if dh or I leave the room now.
But he doesn't cry when he's left with his nanny as he's used to her and happy to be with her.
Thomas will get used to it and he will stop minding but I know it's heartbreaking to leave them crying. Make the most of the time on your own though!

tew · 31/05/2005 11:37

Sleep advice please for my dd. She was an angel until 5 months when she started nursery, and for the last 6 weeks has been waking up twice a night wanting a bottle of milk each time. Haven't really tried the controlled crying yet, as am a bit wet, but as I'm 20 weeks pregnant and working part time, finding it all rather tiring! Any advice please? Half of me thinks that she wouldn't drink both her bottles unless she needed them, but then she's eating very well during the day so I'm confused! Thx.

tew · 31/05/2005 11:45

Sorry, another question please. My dd manages to turn herself 90 degrees in her cot, but not in her cot bed (2 different houses). Any advice on how to stop this as she wakes herself up giggling as she thinks she's so clever! Thanks.

littlerach · 01/06/2005 13:36

Hi Tew, have you tried offering water instead? Or give her a bowl of cereal before bed?

WRT turning, Evie does that but screams! I don't think there is much you can do.

OP posts:
Sponge · 01/06/2005 18:18

Nothing you can do about the turning I don't think. Harry nearly always wakes up the other way round from how we put him down. I think you'll just have to ignore the giggling and see if she'll go back to sleep.

jessicasmummy · 01/06/2005 18:27

Hi girls.... I really must keep on top of this thread - im terrible!

Jess is now the proud owner of 2 bottom teeth! 1st cut through when i was in hospital having my appendix out and the second exactly a week later!

She is getting about now - not hands and knees crawling but commando crawling - so cute to see her do it!

She has just been diagnosed with a chest infection after a complete nightmare of a week.... was sleeping through from 8pm to 7.30am but all went tits up when she got ill!!!

Anyone else believe that their "babies" are going to be turning a year old next month?! Im shocked!!!

MarmaladeSun · 05/06/2005 13:43

Hi everyone. For those that remember me from the pregnancy board, you might also remember that I was studying hard for a diploma in hypnotherapy and psychoanalysis. Well...after studying through the pregnancy, and through the first 10 and a half months of DD2s life I am proud to say that I recently received my diploma, with a 97% pass!!!! I'm now fully qualified, and my private practice is due to open on 20th June! Just goes to show that anything's possible; even with an insomniac baby!

littlerach · 05/06/2005 14:53

Congratulations, don't know how you do it!!

Hi all,

Need some advice again - when would you put your DS/DD into a bed?

Not saying i am going to do it right away but DD is worrying me in her cot.
At least 3 times a night i have to go in there and push her feet and arms back through the bars.
Saw a friend at the weekend who's DD is 14 months who had her leg in plaster - aparently had it throught the cot when sleeping, went to turn and broke her leg. Poor little mite!

Just making me panic a bit as DD does it so often.

littlerach · 06/06/2005 10:10

We put DD1 in a bed at 20 months, this was quite a bit earlier thsn most of er friends.
TBH, they seem to learn how to pull their legs out when they get stuck. There again, I'd hate to think of DD2 breaking her leg. Maybe cot bumpers would help, though they are for 1 ans over I think.

Springchicken · 07/06/2005 08:24

Congrats SC Really pleased for you!

My fingers are well and truly crossed x

Toothache · 07/06/2005 08:31

Spacecadet - YEEEEHAAAHH!!!!

Good luck!!

Well little pudding is just that.... a pudding!! Round and chubby and sweet and I just want to eat her! She is total terror though! Don't remember ds being this difficult and mischeivous.... he would quite happily sit in the spot you plonked him until he walk at 14mths.... then he would sit someplace and read a book! Not dd though.... she's into EVERYTHING and we're putting the stairgates up this week. Terrified to think of what she'll be like when she starts walking. >quiver<

Hope everyone is dong really well.

teeavee · 07/06/2005 10:16

Springchicken, my ds also often sticks his limbs through the cot bars.
I find that since I bought a 'gro-bag' for him to sleep in at night, he not only sleeps much better - and for a bit longer in the mornings, but cannot stick his legs through the cot bars.
I would definitely recommend baby gro-bags, they keep them nice and warm, and you can take them anywhere, knowing he will sleep well in them

teeavee · 07/06/2005 10:20

had a scary moment yesterday - my ds (10.5 months)fell out of his buggy, onto a concrete floor!
Awful - he has a bruise on his head, and cried for about a minute, but is fine. Could have been bad though. ALWAYS attach the straps straight away!!!! I have now learnt my lesson the hard way,

MarmaladeSun · 07/06/2005 10:49

Littlerach...thanks for your message of congratulations. You were the only one who even acknowledged my announcement, so I thank you for that. It seems that I am outside the 'clique' as this is about the fifth message I have posted lately and every one of them has been ignored. Mumsnet isn't the same friendly place it was when I was pg, so I think I shall bow out, as many others have done.

teeavee · 07/06/2005 10:51

NO, marmalade, don't do it! more friendly people are NEEDED - I didn't see this thread until this morning. PLease accept my congrats, and stay around!

oliveoil · 07/06/2005 10:56

Don't fret about it Marmadade, I posted a month ago after coming back after a 10 month maternity leave and no-one noticed either . Or missed me. It's hard to notice every post on such a long thread.

xx

Toothache · 07/06/2005 11:05

Marmaladesun - Congratulations!!! Sorry... I haven't read the thread for ages... I just saw SC announcement today. WELL DONE!

Toothache · 07/06/2005 11:05

OO - I missed you!

Sponge · 07/06/2005 11:38

Congratulations Marmaladesun, congratulations spacecadet, hello and welcome OO .
Thread's been a bit dead lately which is probably why tyour post didn't get noticed much. This is the biggest flurry of activity we've had for ages.

Springchicken, I'd leave her in a cot for as long as possible if I were you. Do the grobag thing if you're worried about her limbs pokig through - they are really great.
We moved dd into a bed at 2 and it was too young. She kept getting up and coming to our room - 3 or 4 times a night. Ds is staying behind bars until he can climb out -which may not be too long actually. He can already go up a full flight of stairs . Stairgates went up at the weekend.
