emily was christened on sunday, it was a great day, she was a very good girl
and im still getting over the weekend of entertaining!

dinosaur · 15/09/2005 13:28

Blake has got really into waving bye-bye! He waved very enthusiastically to a load of completel strangers as we departed the soft play area last Sunday.

He took one step yesterday. Very nearly walking.

He also tells me now when he needs a poo! But I think 13 months is a bit early for potty-training .

beetle73 · 15/09/2005 13:43

I think we can now say that DD is walking. About a month after her first step she is now spending more time on her feet than on her hands and knees. I took her for a walk near the house last weekend, and it took soooo long to get anywhere because of the:
pressing face against every windowpane
stopping to point at dogs
stopping to point at pigeons
watching other babies and children
examining parked bikes
trying to climb into the gutter.
Not giving up the pushchair yet!
And last night the first poo landed in the potty. Obviously, it was only because I whisked her across the room and plonked her down on it at the first sign of movement, but she didn't move, and waited until she'd finished to get up. I know I shouldn't bother, but I want to cut the nappy bill.

littlerach · 15/09/2005 13:54

Evie has shoes!!!
Yes, they are Asda's finest! They seem to be the omtly place that do a size 2 in a hard sole. Poor soul, her feet are tiny!

Was a bad mummy....I had so much to carry to ballet that I put her new shoes on the topoif the car....and only remebered whebn we got to ballet and only one was left!!!!!!!! Luckily DH spotted the other one on his way home from work and recued it! It had a little mark on it but was in good condition!

DD1 now has a ballet bag to carry!

dinosaur · 16/09/2005 17:08

Ooh, that was lucky about the shoe, littlerach.

Blake stood up and tried some dancing yesterday. So I've got a baby who's dancing before he can walk!

Sponge · 16/09/2005 17:41

Harry's walking everywhere now. He only reverts to hands and knees to go down stairs these days. Not saying much though, dada, mama, yes, no and Harry and hello. Loves handing you things and carrying stuff about. Some kisses and hugs when he feels like it but he likes to be off on the move again pretty quickly so you only get a good cuddle when he's tired. He's got 4 back teeth now - a bit of fuss but not too bad when they came through. He looks like a little boy now, not really a baby any more but he's still my baby.

dinosaur · 19/09/2005 09:42

Can I ask you all a question - how much sleep are your one-year-olds having during the day now? We really struggle to get Blake to sleep for more than an hour, with the result that he is exhausted by early evening and conks out while having his bottle at 7 pm.

Sponge · 19/09/2005 09:47

Harry has about an hour in the morning, 10.30-11.30 and then will oftn have another sleep in the afternoon, betwen 30 mins and an hour but we discourage this after about 3.30 as then it can interfere with getting him to bed at 7.30.
Yesterday though he'd been running around a lot in the morning and slept for 2 hours, 10.45-12.45 and then only woke up becasue I went in!
He's the saem as Blake, if he doesn't get a bit of afternoon kip in then he's very tired by 6pm and we struggle to keep him up and not whinging till bedtime.

dinosaur · 19/09/2005 09:49

Thank you sponge! If only he would have one long sleep in the middle of the day every day, that would be perfect. But it is hard for him, poor pet, especially as we (still) have builders in at the moment so it is pretty noisy even when the older DSs are out at school.

Anyone else?

littlerach · 19/09/2005 14:05

Evie has 45 mins - ish at 9.30am, then hopefully an hour at 2pm. If she sleeps too late, we wake her by 3.30pm.

She goes to bed at 6.30pm, as she is exhausted.

Really she could do with just one sleep, but she doesn't quite manage it.

OP posts:
jessicaandbumpsmummy · 19/09/2005 15:22

On toddler group days (mon, wed, fri) jess sleeps for 2.5 hours from 11.45am and that is her til bed time anytime from 7.30pm

Other days she tends to have an hour at about 10am and another hour and half at about 3pm.

beetle73 · 20/09/2005 09:40

If she's home with me then 1 hour morning and 1 hour afternoon. Then goes to bed at 9. If she's with nanny then I don't think she gets nearly so much - maybe an hour in total, and then is ready to crash at 7.30

dinosaur · 20/09/2005 09:42

jessicaandbumpsmummy - if she sleeps for an hour and a half in the afternoon - what time does she go to bed at night?

DS3 would just loooooovve to be allowed a really long sleep in the late afternoon but DH is worried that we'd have him on our hands all evening! And it seems very unfair if he gets to stay up later than his big brothers...

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 20/09/2005 09:52

dino - she goes down about 8.30 if she has had a sleep in the afternoon, and sleeps through til 7am

if just one long sleep she goes down at 7.30 andis up at 6.30-7am

MrsEvs · 22/09/2005 03:49

Phoebe still has 2 sleeps as well. Usually about an hour from 9.30/10ish, then another hour around 3ish. Sometimes her pm sleep is later than that but it doesn't seem to interfere with her bedtime.

She goes to bed between 7.30 and 8, and sleeps until 7am usually. I think they do move to just 1 sleep soonish though. The playgroup we are a part of consists of babies 11/2 to 3 months older than Pheebs and 3 of them have now moved to just one nap in the middle of the day.

I'm hanging on to the 2 naps as long as I can, especially at the mo. I've just hit 12 weeks but am still feeling nauseous 24/7 and knackered!

sweetkitty · 23/09/2005 09:30

hi all

Well we have finally moved and sold the flat, move went ok still surrounded by boxes though. Abbie's room will be the first to be decorated all pink and girly couldn't help it. Am quite excited as it will be the first time she will have a room of her own.

She is doing great running around like a maniac sometimes she forgets to stop, she always seems to have a bruise somewhere on her head. She is understnading a lot more now as well and can "ask" you for milk and juice. During the unpacking she discovered her Dancing Dora it's driving us insane but she loves it and it is cute to see her dancing.

I'm 24 weeks now feels the exact same as it did with Abbie which leads me to thinking a girl again, think we are having a private scan to check though, too impatient to wait to January.

I'm perplexed at you with 2 a day nappers, Abbie has between 20 mins and an hour and a half all day, she does go 8.30pm - 8am though (suits us better to have her up later for now).

MrsEvs · 27/09/2005 21:51

Do all your babies still like throwing food on the floor?? Phoebe still does it all the time and I don't know how to discourage her. I tell her no, I've taken all the food off her tray before now when she does it, but she doesn't seem remotely bothered by that. Any miracle solutions?

Had my 12 week scan yesterday, all well, little beanie very active. I got told off by the midwife though as I had lost 7lbs since my last visit 4 weeks ago, but just been too nauseous to eat properly. I told her not to worry - I'd make up for it later on and then some!

Hope you settle in OK SweetKitty.

teeavee · 28/09/2005 14:28

Mine throws anything and everything on the floor, including food! I still spoon feed him, but he has bread crusts, and other finger food as well.

Last night, he was teething a bit, and I had a proper conversation with him - sitting with him lying on my lap, in the half darkness, he 'talked' to me in a lovely soft voice - I would respond with 'really, did you?' etc, then he'd talk back and continue with his story - it was really really sweet and lovely !!!!
sorry, I'll stop gushing now

MrsEvs · 28/09/2005 15:02

Phoebe does that too, it is really sweet - she has such long conversations now I feel bad that I have no idea what she is on about! She looks at me so earnestly as if I should be getting it

sweetkitty · 28/09/2005 15:16

Abbie does not shut up from the minute she opens her eyes till she shuts them (don't know where she gets it from) she chatters constantly and tells you off and shouts at you. We have many conversations too. She's asleep right now house is far too quiet.

Great news about your 12 week scan MrsEvs I was really off my food for the first 14 weeks or so making up for it now though.

Yup Abbie still throws her food off her highchair tray I limit the amount I give her at the one time to a few bits of each food if I give her too much it gets chucked. She has had finger food for months now refuses to be spoon fed she even picks the cheese out her sandwich and eats it first.

allboysclub · 02/10/2005 01:19

I have just found this thread as I am new to MN.

I had been worrying a little about mine throwing food on the floor, so I am glad I am not alone. Mine even takes food out of his mouth and throws it away, but usually when he has had enough.

I am still feeding the more sloppy food with a spoon though, so I am wondering whether I should be letting ds feed himself now. He is not all that well co-ordinated so I have put it off so far.

He manages finger food ok, apart from the throwing on the floor. The cat has learnt to sit under the highchair during mealtimes and eats anything from marmite butties to quavers.

Eshay · 02/10/2005 21:02

HI again,

Glad to see everyone is still here and doing well. It's good to read that all our babies seem to be crazy at the moment. I have Thomas by myself on Fridays and I find it hugely exhausting (being 24 weeks pg doesn't help of course). He is a great little boy, very lovely and the cutest around ;)

He has been walking since his birthday and now likes to dance as well. His idea of dancing is standing in one spot and hupsing up and down with his bum. The other day I started turning circles and he copied me. After a minute he was very dizzy but he thought it was great fun and did it again.

Thomas is getting a bit better at feeding himself. He likes to hold the spoon and try and scoop something on it but he doesn't quite know how to yet. So often I fill up his spoon and put it inhis bowl, ready for him to pick up and put in his mouth. His highchair is right by the fridge and he now often stops halfway through his meal and starts 'asking' for yoghurt! We're trying not to give in every time he does that as he would eat yoghurt only!

He can say a few words but most of them are very unclear. It is ocvious he's trying to copy what we say though. If we say 'bath' he'll say 'ba..' so that's a pretty good attempt, I think. He's learning Dutch as well as English so he might be a bit slower than other babies with starting to speak properly. It must be so confusing when daddy teaches you one word and then mum comes and tells you something different He's really good at understanding all sorts of requests, like 'go get your book'. It makes him seem so grown-up when he actually responds to what you're saying. This morning I asked him where his nose was and he pointed at it! I was so proud.

Last week he got his first haircut. It was long overdue but it's another one of those things that makes him seem like a proper toddler rather than a baby. We did it ourselves, with DH's hair clippers. I was afraid Thomas would start crying after 10 seconds but he was fine so he now has reasonably short hair again. It looks much fuller now too so we like it.

Yesterday we moved him into his new room and his new cotbed. This is all in preparation for the arrival of his little brother in January. He was quite excited about carrying his bears through to his new room and slept fine the first night but today at naptime it was a bit more difficult. He cried for quite a while but I suppose that could have been for a different reason. Tonight he went to sleep just fine again.

To answer Dinosaur's question about sleep: T has one nap of about an hour (sometimes longer) when at nursery. We've tried doing one nap at home but he's usually so exhausted after 4 days of nursery that he needs 2 sleeps on Friday and Saturday. On Sunday we can sometimes do 1 nap again. When he does 2 naps he usually has about 45 mins at about 9.30 or 10, after which I wake him up. He will then have (almost) 2 hours at 1.30 or so. I never let him have more than 3 hours per day and never let him sleep after 4.30. At night he sleeps from 7 to 7. We're so lucky!

Now I have a question too: Is anyone else's bubba hitting them in the face? Thomas often gets very excited and as a way to show his love (I like to think that, anyway) he suddenly slaps us in the face. He is also into head butting! He'll come for a cuddle but just bang his head into your lip or something.

I took T to TumbleTots last week and he was ever so shy! So unlike him! It seemed like a nice thing to be doing with him though so I'll go again this week to see if he feels more at ease. He tries to climb on everything in the house so I'm sure a little bit of gymnastics is right up his alley.

Right, I'll leave you here. Have a nice week!

Eshay · 02/10/2005 21:02

OMG -what a huge post that was. I apologise.

littlerach · 03/10/2005 20:46

welcome to MN!

Evie's feet have grown and she fits into Clarkes shoes! 3F!! Bless!! She runs everywhere now, usually accompanied by a handbag or hat! She loves taking DD1 to ballet as she can run the length of the studio before the class!

She has startde to touch or pull everyone's hair now, not to be unkind, but just because she can!And she gabbles all day long!

Am slowly getting less broody now, much toi DH's relief.
