hi beetle welcome to mumsnet my DD is a day younger than yours

Don't know about the walking and weight thing I think it's so individual they will all do it when they are ready, my DD was a slow roller and crawler we thought she would be a late walker but in the last 6 weeks she has started to stand up, cruise furniture, take a few steps, walk and run!

She's so little as well only 70cms and 21lbs (got her weighed last week first time in 4 months) she's still in 6-9 month clothes, I keep thinking she's my baby she shouldn't be walking.

She doesn't just to walking now oh no she's got to be carrying something as well, today we have had beakers, bucket of toys, washing basket, my bra on her head, DP's t-shirt (very funny she had it over her head she looked like a little white ghost), bathroom mat, tracksuit bottoms and various toys. There is a trail of mega blocks, clothes and toys wherever she goes. Flatly refuses to take your hand and you get a running commentary on everything she never shuts up from the minute her eyes open til she shuts them at night, can you imagine when she does start talking.

It's great fun and I wouldn't have it any other way

Eshay · 24/08/2005 17:08

Welcome Beetle. I agree with Sweetkitty, I don't think it has anything to do with weight, just withhow ready they are. One day she'll suddenly run off, just wait and see.

Springchicken, I think it's better to have them walk barefoot inside anyway as it helps them develop their sense balance.

Thomas loves carrying things around as well. We have had to buy a toilet lock so he can't open the lid. He especially liked throwing my hairbrush in the loo! He also loves pointing at everything and it's evenmore fun if you lift him up and go and explore every lamp and other fixture together. He really makes you run through the house.

Last night he suddenly refused to go to sleep. He just cried and cried and when I went to see him he was happy as Larry. It might still be the after effects of his MMR or just that he is teething. I'm not sure, it is very unlike him. I hope he won't do the same tonight as I'm not very good at listening to him cry.

Beetle73 · 24/08/2005 21:05

Thanks for that Eshay and SK. You're right, she'll get round to it in her own time. Impressed that you're both already working on the next ones!

Springchicken · 25/08/2005 10:15

Welcome Beetle. Your DD was born the day before my birthday

Eshay, bless Thomas. It is probably a mixture of teeth and his jab. Evie has been the same since her and doesn't seem to be getting better atm, doesn't help she's got yet another cold
Her walking is getting much better, taking a big string of steps at a time now, walked the whole length of grandma's kitchen last night, she looked exhausted afterwards .

Anyone else investing in cupboard locks? Evie is into absolutely everything but her favourite things atm is trying to climb into our fire, she ends up looking like she been down the mines

Springchicken · 25/08/2005 10:17

And the pointing Eshay, so cute, does Thomas do a crocked point? Evie's sort of goes off at a angle so it looks like she's pointing round corners

Beetle73 · 25/08/2005 10:22

Haven't bought cupboard locks, just moved the dangerous stuff and let her get on with emptying all the other bits, as she regularly does. We don't have a fire, but she's desperate to climb into the dishwasher, and obsessed with the freezer - picking off bits of ice to eat.

sweetkitty · 25/08/2005 10:33

I have a gate across the kitchen/living room in this house as we have a cat litter tray in there (not ideal but then nothing in here is). I think I will be getting cupboard locks when we move. And a toilet lock she is obsessed with the toilet now as well.

Bubbles I'm not working on the next one, he/she is very much alive and kicking!! 20 weeks already today very similar pregnancy to Abbie but I'm a lot smaller this time (was smaller to begin with) and I feel it's a shame as I don't think about this baby as much probably due to chasing after my mad daughter. Trying not to think about the fact I have to go through labour again think it's worse this time as I was in blissful igorance last time.

Springchicken · 25/08/2005 10:58

Am dreading when i fall pg again Sweetkitty, the thought of labour again seriously petrifies me

Can't believe you are 20 weeks aleady Gone so fast. Horaah for being smaller this time round too.

sweetkitty · 25/08/2005 11:03

Just thinking of the end result SC, I had a straightforward 4 hour labour last time, was hoping for 10 mins this time chances are next time will be absolutely fine for you too second births usually are.

Think I'm smaller this time as I'm not sitting at a desk all day eating and being on mumsnet!

Springchicken · 01/09/2005 20:48

Erm ladies, where have you all gone ?

I know you all have lunatic 1 year olds tearing around everywhere but there's no need to abandon me

littlerach · 02/09/2005 16:38

We have been so busy, getting DD1 ready for school, scurrying after DD2, decorating, oh, the list goes on!

MrsEvs · 06/09/2005 07:32

Hi All

Welcome beetle73

Well I had my first appointment last week, and to my great amazement they did a little scan and there he/she was in all his/her beanie glory. My spirits soared! Couldn't believe that at 8 weeks 3 days you could already clearly see the little head with a little hole where it's ear will be, and 2 little arms reaching up. Little legs were still a bit stubby, but I was amazed - expected to see just a little blob really! They even did me a photo.

I was delighted because with Phoebe (who I had up in Connecticut and we are now down in DC) I only had a scan at 20 weeks and they didn't even give me a photo, so it was a real bonus!

All else was well too, good strong heartbeat and all my vitals were good, so I feel properly excited now - like I didn't really believe it was true before!

I cut Phoebe's fringe yesterday - poor child had such a bowlhead . Had to be done though, it was all in her eyes and she would never keep her little clip in - just kept trying to eat it! She is just wild at the moment too, into everything. Opening drawers and emptying them all out, charging about the place like a bull in a china shop, decorating the whole house with swathes of loo roll, when she is not tearing it up into little pieces and littering it throughout the house! Think I'd be exhausted even if I wasn't pg!

I was so embarassed at playgroup the other day. Her friend was playing on a ride on car thingy, she walked over there and before I could get to her tipped him right off it and grabbed it for herself . I told her off and she just laughed so had to sit with her in the corner with her back to all her friends for 10 minutes as punishment. She didn't get it though. What do you do about discipline at this stage??? She just doesn't really understand it yet, but you can't just let behaviour like that go, can you. What do you guys do if the babies do something really naughty?

sweetkitty · 06/09/2005 08:42

Hi MrsEvs great news about your scan I had my 21 week one on Friday alls well but couldn't tell the sex. I think it's a girl though as the pregnancy is identical to DD's. Think it will be lovely for her to have a little sister 18 months apart hope they will be close but they will probably be exact opposites and fight like cat and dog.

Think it's in the job description wild one year olds. We had to go sign our house documents last week and DD was crashing around his office he was v good about it. This morning there are 4 teletubbies in my washing basket! They are so funny. Hopefully we are moving on Friday still got loads to do and organise.

littlerach · 06/09/2005 09:48

Oh, yopu must all stop talking about your pregnancies, I get so broody it's ridiculous! I keep telling myself "NO"!!

They are a litle crazy now, aren't they? Nothing is safe! And Evie grabs DD1's hair/skin/clothes, whatever, if she doesn't give her what she wants!! We try and distract her, rather than discipline her, as they are so little to understand. But it is frustrating.

Springchicken · 08/09/2005 11:43

I have a little lunatic now instead of a baby. She is nuts and absolutely fearless. She does stunts on her quad bike, i caught her yesterday standing on the seat pressing the go button and zooming round the lounge. .

Have been wondering what age to start expecting proper words, I know some do it already but there is no sign of anything except mum and dad. She is trying really hard, jabbers away and then looks at you as if to say, well why aren't you answering me then.

Not getting on great with DP atm, so am stressed, tired and a bit emotional.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/09/2005 11:56

proper words - we get Daddy, Juice, Down, Hiya, Yes and No.... mummy only makes an appearance if she feels under the weather - typical huh!

Cant control her at the moment - playpen has been a godsend today while we get stuff sorted at the new house!

littlerach · 08/09/2005 16:59

The words just seem to suddenly come. Sometimes it takes a while to realsie that it is a real word, IYSWIM.

Where are you moving to, JM? Not back to Warminster??!!!! We have started ballet lessons at the gym there.

SC, hope things sort themselves out for yu and DP. Is it just the stress of everyday, or something else?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/09/2005 17:02

We are only moving up the road and round the corner! We are getting a 3 bed house because baby due soon and need more space!

littlerach · 08/09/2005 17:04

Bewrae - more space means more crap!!!

OP posts:
jessicaandbumpsmummy · 08/09/2005 17:05

i know! We are already filling it up quite nicely and removals dont come til tomorrow - the joys of only being up the road, we can get some stuff in today!

dinosaur · 09/09/2005 14:30

Hello all, haven't looked in here for ages - at all you brave ones going for it again!

Blake is not quite walking but can stand up for several seconds without holding onto anything, so I think it won't be long before he tries his first steps. He's into everything and very strong-willed. Very sweet too. Gives mummy kisses on request. Absolutely refuses to let me feed him with a spoon anymore, unless it's yogurt in which case it's mysteriously okay.

sasa15 · 09/09/2005 20:56

I'm glad to hear someone is there and back....
I've been looking to compare my little ds with someone similar age....
not walking yet crawling and standing sometimes...
fever tonight don't know why...could be teething,,,
say mama not often, daddy a lot and papa...
try to repeat everything...ball...he loves the ball...
patta for pasta he's half italian....
no, ta, wave ciao to everyone....not many kisses
just hugs....
He loves throwing toys away....

littlerach · 15/09/2005 12:47

Where are you all........

OP posts:
teeavee · 15/09/2005 13:07

mine's a combination os sasa and dino's, behaviour-wise. not walking, but 'letting go' for a few seconds too
wish he'd give me kisses on request though! He does profer his favorite playmobil character to me so that I can kiss her - better than nothing I suppose!

he says 'bow-wow' and 'tweet tweet', 'mooh-mooh', dad, mam less often, and undertsands a lot more - said the name of a welsh cartoon character yesterday too.

his first 2 molars broke through last week - we haven't had much hassle with that, thankfully

he's lovely all over, of course!

his hair is getting mullet-like though - I can't bring myself to cut it, that would mean he's growing out of babyhood!!!!
