spacecadet · 08/06/2005 15:28

jessicasmummy · 08/06/2005 15:38

spacecadet · 08/06/2005 22:26

blimey i hadnt thought about it, dd1 hasher birthday first, 1st july, need to think about that first.

MrsEvs · 09/06/2005 19:53

Hi all, haven't posted for ages, congrats on all the news!

Phoebe is also into everything, never a moments rest in this place now! She can whizz up the stairs and climb up all sorts, have to watch her like a hawk! She just got her 3rd tooth through today as well. She weighs about 22 and a half pounds now by my estimation and is ridiculously tall, bigger than all the 6 boys in her playgroup some of whom are 3 months older than her .

She has a best friend in her playgroup which is so cute. They chase each other round crawling, play with the same toys together, pretend to read books to each other, it's very sweet

We're coming home to the UK in 5 weeks for a 3 week holiday and I can't wait. Phoebe will have her 1st birthday at home with all the family which will be lovely.

I don't think she is eating enough "normal' food, I'm a bit clueless about what is good to give her. Can people give me an example of 2 or 3 days worth of menus their babies get - I'd be really grateful, thanks

littlerach · 11/06/2005 08:27

Goodness, this thread got a bit busy!!
Congrats Spacecedet, hope it al goes well for you, keep us posted please!

I don't know that Evie eats "normal" food, though we always give her scraps off our plate at meal times!
Example menu:
Weetabix and/or toast for breakfast.
Chicken and potato and veg (mashed) for lunch.
Spag bol for dinner.

Porridge for breakfast.
Pasta and cheese sauce and chicken and broccoli for lunch.
Shepherds pie for dinner.

I have tried her with sandwiches and she isn't that bothered by them, perhaps as she doesn't have any teeth - still!! She has yoghurt once a day, and usually fruit twice a day. Often she has a banana whole!! And she eats kiwi fruit really well.

I think the idea is to get them onto your food by the time they are a year old, and just to mash it up. It's a bit awkward here as I am veggie and DH and DD1 generally eat the samew food as me, not always suitable for a baby, eg soy mince and quorn. But we also have a lot of veg rissotto and couscous which are great for little ones.

Hope that helps!!
Where will you be coming to when you visit?

Thanks for that littlerach. We'll be spending our time in the UK between Liverpool and Manchester - (my folks live in Liverpool and dh's in Manchester) - can't wait!!!

Eshay · 12/06/2005 16:47

Hi again, I've had a lot of catching up to do and am really pleased to hear about Spacecadet and MarmaladeSun. congartulatons to both of you for such very different achievements

MrsEvs, Thomas was born 8 July so one of the older babies in this group. he has had 8 teeth for ages so he eats all sorts. Example menus:

Weetabix + milk + fruit
Mac & cheese + ham/courgette/mushroom/peppers mix + baked beans

Weetabix + milk + fruit
slice of toast w/ cream cheese + yoghurt
pasta + mince + corn

He's also been known to attack a drumstick but as said, he has 8 teeth so can handle quite a lot. He also has little snacks in the moring and afternoon, mainly (dried) fruit.

I read about people putting up stairgates. We can't really fit stairgates to our stairs as there's not a good place to secure them and we're in rented property so we can't go screwing big holes into the banisters. Instead we've been practicing crawling down the stairs backwards. T seems fine with it but I was wondering if any of you are in the same situation and if you have any tips. We do have a playpen so I can put him in a safe place if I have to leave the room.

Sponge · 13/06/2005 10:09

Harry doesn't really eat proper food yet either. He will eat pieces of fruit, raisins etc and will much on a poece of toast, breadstick, biscuit etc but for his meals we still mush it up. He might have a meat and veg puree with some pasta or rice stirred in so a bit of texture, but if the bits are too big or the texture too fibrous he just chokes and spits it out. And he has 6 teeth so that doesn't necessarily help.
Still he's a very good eater so I'm not worried.
He tends to have weetabix or porridge with some fruit mixed in for breakfast and some kind of whizzed up meat or fish and veg for lunch and dinner. Fruit or yoghurt or both mixed up for pudding. Mostly homemade but some jars. We also whizz up the leftovers from our sunday roast for him (meat and veg together). He loves ratatouille.

We have stairgates. He just doesn't get the idea of going down backwards and head first hurts. Ours have to fit to the banisters too, so have to be screw in ones but we own so it's OK. We have three steps in the hall which we've left open with a soft mat at the bottom for him to practice on but I don't want him falling down a whole flight.

Sponge · 13/06/2005 10:10

There's a recent piccie of him in member profiles if anyone's interested.

rumplestiltskin · 16/06/2005 11:58

havn't been on here in ages, the school fete has taken over my life and i do nothing but stick little tickets on jars or staple things together. lottie is nearly 10 months and still has NO teeth but still manages to munch her way through grapes, peaches, apricots and the like and she likes any thing with a good strong flavour, olives, goats cheese, homous.
but she is hardly moving at all, no need for stairgates in this house LOL.

ESHAY. we can't put gates on our stairs ether as they are on a bend so we put them in the doorways last time. we just used the pressure ones and it worked out fine. HTH.

Eshay · 17/06/2005 11:48

First of all, welcome Corysmomma.

Things sure are quiet here these days. I guess by now most people have returned to work and can't spend every nap time chacking out MN I just started work again myself but I'm only doing 3 days a week. My weekend starts on Thursday, which is sooo lovely. Gives me and Thomas some time to get used to the changes in our lives too. I might add an extra day to my week though as I'm just not making any money, after paying for travel and childcare.

Sponge, I just had a look at Harry's pic - he's lovely. I had no idea you could pics on MN - goes to show how far I venture from my standard two threads I'll try and add a piccie of Thomas too if I have some time later.

Rumplestiltskin, thanks for that idea. We might do that when he's a bit bigger and can climb out of his bed. For now he's safe in his cot so no need for gates on bedroom doors. He's actually getting quite good at backing down the stairs. He does it for fun: up the first two steps and down again.

jessicasmummy · 18/06/2005 22:11

Hi guys...

Well, we got Jess her first pair of crawling shoes today - HOW CUTE!

What size feet have your lot got?! I was suprised to find Jess was a 3.5 F I thought she would have been smaller?!

cricket · 19/06/2005 16:33

Hello all! Been away for ages but been reading all your messages regularly to catch up - So nice to hear that you are all doing well! Tis difficult to get on the computer now as Sam likes to join in and pull the letters off the keyboard. Hmm. Went to a christening today in this heat of one of Sam's friends. Made me realise how grown up they are all now...10 months old and no longer a baby really! Just wanted to ask what crawling shoes are and if they are worth buying - heard lots about them in the last week and had never even heard of them before! Like the idea of getting his huge feet measure though!

Sponge · 19/06/2005 16:41

Goodness, shoes already!
Harry has a pair of those elasticated leather ones which are just sold in age bands. He doesn't really like having things on his feet though so we rarely put them on. I don't think I'll bother measuring his feet until he can walk (which may not be very far off though).

cricket · 19/06/2005 16:47

Sam had a pair of those soft leather ones but can no longer get them on his feet - tried the next size up and couldn't get them on either! So I bought him some soft sandals (to wear for the christening - he is normally barefoot or wearing socks which he takes off immediately) and he managed to undo the velcro on them in under 3 minutes! Quite like the idea of a picture of his first shoes though! (apparently Clarks do this).

jessicasmummy · 19/06/2005 16:59

yeah clarkes do the little photo - the crawling shoes we wanted for jess stopped at a size 3 - i was gutted so we have pretty pink ones instead!

Once she is more confident on her feet, ill go up to the cruising shoes as i dont think the crawling ones will be her size by then! GOt a eview next month to check her feet size - so cute!

littlerach · 20/06/2005 09:35

Talking of shoes, Evie was in the garden last week with nothing on hr feet, and she was cruising round and walking holding our hands. That night we found a splinter in her foot - ahhh. We tried some drawing out cream from chemists but after 5 days DH had to get t out using a needle, very sad but We were all brave and only cried a biot! Seriously thiough, never thought about this, we have decking so it may have been from that, or we assembled some new gardenfurniture and it could ahve been from there. She now wears shoes, the daisy root ones, all the time outside.

Sponge, I mentioned I might try and put up a pic of Thomas and last night I finally did (member profiles).

Sponge · 22/06/2005 14:40

He's a little cutey. I love 'em when they're all smiley .

sweetkitty · 22/06/2005 16:12

hi all

Sorry I've not been on but BT messed up my internet connection so over 3 weeks with no net access sheer torture had even to resort to talking to DH!

The move to Scotland went OK but living in a tiny 1 bed flat is no fun, hopefully our move should speed up soon. Abbie is doing great she seems to be doing so much more in such a short period of time. She's pulling herself up now and walking when you hold her (agony on your back) she's eating practically everything we do now (minus the junk) she prefers to eat herself though I cannot remember the last time she had a jar of food.

I know what you all mean our babies will be one soon, scary for me that before Abbie's 18 months I'll have another one. I'm feeling really rough not being sick but feeling like it all the time and have no interest in food whatsoever (would be a best seller if you could bottle it and sell it as a diet) feeling the exact same way I did with Abbie so everyone is telling me it's another girl I'm honestly not bothered.
