I'm still here.
I think M would love Bewilderwood. She is a physical child isn't she? R loved it and we didn't have to pay for her. There are two Toddlewood areas where everything is easily accessible to little ones the age of ours. She had a whale of a time and got very, very dirty!! Her favourite thing was the zip wire! There are loads of zip wires for the older ones but they have a couple for little ones too with a baby seat attched to hold them in. R thought it was wicked as we strapped her in and sent her off down the wire. It's all very green and done so well. The author of the book was there when we were so we bought the book for when the kids are a bit older and he signed it to them with a lovely message.

ThemasterandmarGOREitas · 02/11/2008 16:37

Evening all, i have skimmed through all the posts and hope with fingers and toes crossed that L is much better today Scoot and you too for that matter. As a fellow mean mummy it must have been rather worrying if you had to call the out of hours doc.

Absolutely marvellous photos on FB TYG and April. It looks like you had agreat time with the Jaffabiffas.

We have managed to escape the trick or treaters, but had 4 boys under 6 come and stay for the night. Phew, it was like a whirlwind of food, mud, shouting and football. And they got up to get their plane REALLY early the next morning. So that, plus a birthday party trip to Mamma Mia for 7 kids, followed by birthday lunch, followed by kids fun and fireworks meant I was zonked by last night. J, it has to be said, was totally unimpressed by fireworks. He clung onto me for dear life and was physically quaking. I really felt like a mean mummy.

Today we have been very colonial and gone to The Sailing Club, about an hour's drive away into the Rift Valley. It was sunny and hot and great fun. A friend's dh whisked me out for a spin on his laser and I was just a teensy bit worried about capsizing not least because of the potential hippo encounters but more that I wasn't wearing waterproof mascara

The very lovely Margaret is still away, Elizabeth is coping admirably but the house is starting to look like a bomb has hit it. I even did some housework today, it felt quite odd.

The very exciting news is that next weekend dh and I are going to Zanzibar with NO KIDS . Some foolish lovely friend is going to have them for 2 nights and I get to join dh at the end of one of his conferences. OMG what will I do with myself for 2 whole days on my own? Also I will have to fly on my own, with no dc, that really will feel strange. I will be able to eat my food myself and go to the toilet if I want to

SKYTVMOSTHAUNTEDADDICT · 02/11/2008 21:34

Hi all

Too tired to catch up sorry.

Have had so many bad nights with L. He didn't even sleep any longer after a formula feed (quite pleased really so I could stick two fingers up to my mum who kept on going on about my milk not being strong enough ). He has about 3 feeds during the night which I am struggling with.

Tonight we are going cold turkey in the travel cot and a sleeping bag based on the fact that the moses basket may be too small for him. Surely he can't be much worse!

Will report back tomorrow

Aprilmeadow · 03/11/2008 09:28

Scoot how are you all?

Sky hope you got some sleep last night. Fingers crossed that being in the travel cot helped.

TMAM you will have a fab time away with Dh. We have been away 2/3 times without the kids and it has been lovely, especially being able to eat hot food and going to the loo without a crowd.

TYG your pictures are beautiful.

SOH how are you all? Ella is the same as M, she isnt eating half as much as she does normally. So far 3 big teeth have come through, she looks weird because she only has 4 at the top and 2 at the bottom then some gaps and these massive teeth!

JAM, how was your weekend?

LG&T did you manage to rest whilst the kids were away?

We went to the Legoland fireworks yesterday. They were Star Wars themed so dh was in his element. J was terrified and even though he had his ear defenders on he still hated it. Ella was ok but ended up copying her brother by the end of it.

Had a lovely day on Friday with MrsJB and family. But it was over too quickly as she left here at 10am on Saturda to make her way to see her family.

Back to college this afternoon, need to talk to my tutor as i have no idea how to start my next project!

thegreatscooscreamy · 03/11/2008 14:40

Our Dr is a prize twat.I took L today after another night of being 39.5 and shivery..he looked in her ears, checked her glands, listned to her chest, (all of which took him 1 minute), said 'its viral'.I said, 'but what of her temperature which has been consistently high for 5 days?'He said, 'well take her coat off'.(I hadnt had chance to take it off yet, as we had only been in there 2 minutes)I mean, who knew?If only id had the benefit of that sage advice 4 days ago..I wouldnt have sent L to bed in her coat, hat and gloves if id known thatwas whats causing her to be ill..The weather is horrid here today, I could hardly have taken a sick child out without a coat.I beg of you.
Fine..it may well be viral and theres nothing to be done, but there's no need to be so patronizing.

She is still boilng, but her hands and feet are freezing and she says she feels cold.Between her and M who has a heavy cold and cant breathe we havent had any sleep since Thursday. My chest is tight as a drum and I feel like death warmed up.My Mum has had to come to help.AND i missed the town bonfire last night as was too poorly (for the second year in a row) as were the kids (L had been looking forward to it)which am gutted about.

I am quite possibly delirious as have begun to find Vincent Simone from Strictly Come Dancing devilishly attractive!

I have been to Bewilderwood. Is fabbo!Got the girls little twiggle doors for their skirting boards, very cute.Is horrid having a DH out all night.I feel like a single Mum too at the moment.

Very of your weekend away Master...what I wouldnt give for a weekend away. Not with DH.No.On my own..I dream of it.When DH's exams are over I am booking myself into the nearest travel tavern for a night.I will sleep and sleep and sleep.

Hope the travel cot does the trick SKY..We had to put M in ours in the end as the Moses basket was too small and she would just rattle against the sides and wake herself up.

Thankyou all for you concern on here and the texts. You are all so lovely..

AbbyLou · 03/11/2008 15:56

Scoot sorry to hear L is no better and that your doctor is a twat silly man. It's so horrible when they're poorly isn't it? R has been suffering a lot with her teeth this weekend and I felt so sorry for her.
Well it was back to work today, although we did have an early finish as we work continental hours for our INSET days. It means I've got a little time to myself this afternoon to catch up on work before I have to fetch the kiddiwinks.
TMAM you are so lucky to be having a break without the dc. I am celebrating here too because firslty dh bought us me a weekend away in Whitby for my birthday. We both love it up there and haven't been since we had the kids. We used to go about 3 times a year. So on 28th November we go for 2 nights away, on our own. I'm already dreaming of fish and chips at The Magpie....
Also, even though it is unheard of in teaching circles, I have an overnight course this week. Dh is pretending he's not bothered but i think he is a little bit concerned about how he's going to do the bedtime and morning routine all by himself - it will do him good i think! I'm in glorious Barnsley on Thursday night at a hotel, in a room, all by myself. I can't wait. It even has a Bannatynes Health Club I can use so I will be relaxing away the hours in the jacuzzi. We finish at 4 on the Thursday so hopefully i should have a nice chilled out evening.

largeginandtonic · 03/11/2008 16:42

Abby and TMAM i am sooooo of your lovely trips away.

TMAM i hope this is just what you and dh need right now, some time to yourselves. How are the crazy hormones? Have they calmed down?

Scoot my lovely i cannot believe those darling girls are poorly again. You lot need scooping up and whisking away to hot climes for a rest. Perhaps a stay with TMAM is in order (providing she has Margaret back)
Doctors are a pain in the arse at times.

I phoned ours this morning to ask about ds#3, he has been coughing his lungs up for a week now but no temp and no obvious signs of illness. I feel it is asthma, he had Bronchiolitis and Pneumonia when he was younger and has a rubbish chest. Would he see us nooooooooooo. I know why.loads of people go in with coughs and colds at this time of year he must get fed up of it but STILL, harumph.

I have had the two middle ones off today with an inset day. We got them back yesterday, they had a great week and ex drove them all the way home for me as i am supposed to be on my restricted duties He was very good about it and i am very grateful, it is a long drive on your own.

DH is painting... the dining room is done and now he is in the front room. I think he is nesting It will be lovely when it is done but the mess and baby getting in to everything is very wearing.

Pink how is the A rash? Any more tantrums?

B had his first normal poo on Saturday, i mean fgs. That was a whole week of odd poo. He has cut those molars at the back too so has been a bundle of joy

MKG pics of the boys?

Am off to look at FB pics now of the Biffas and AM.

thegreatscooscreamy · 03/11/2008 16:51

What colour are you doing the rooms gintonic? When DH's exams are over we ARE doing our lounge. We are.We are.We are!I have lived with that shag pile for over a year. Its more than I can take.I think it harbours germs.Thats it!Thats why we are so ill all the time. Its the carpet! Its a biohazard!

Its not on of the DR not to see you.Yes it cold season. So what? The child might be seriously ill!(says the woman who has just been patronized into the ground by her own Dr )

A Bannatynes health club!Do they exist?!I see him all the time on Dragons Den with his 'chain' of health clubs, but have never seen one in real life!
How I am..

Christ I feel shitty.Cant not go to work tomorrow as have a meeting with a council leader and two customer reviews to attend. In fact have to work a long day.Joy!Must say my Mum is being an angel.Have been in bed (on MN to be fair, for 3 hours and she has been coping admirably with the little ladies downstairs.L is on the couch in a blanket watching telly, M is 'helping' to make a cake)

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/11/2008 17:05

Abby, hurrah! How sad are we that you are excited about a work trip and I am excited about tagging onto dh's conference? I am a little worried about leaving J, who is still like ultra clingy velcro baby. Also he has not had a solid poo either in weeks. He has no temperature or anything but still, its not nice. I'm glad B has eased up a bit, but can't begin to imagine the painting chaos

The hormones are still ALL over the shop. Ladytophamhatt is having the same problems and it seems there is a progesterone pill you take for the second half of the month or Prozac also for the second half of the month. Neither are up my street but I am going to try a herbal remedy called Femarone 17, I can't find it here so may call upon a bored May07-er to track it down in the uk and send to me .

Jolly good show of the exH to do all the driving. Maybe he will get used to it?

How is dd getting on with her injections?

Sorry about the lack of enthusiasm from both your docs. I have to say though Scoot, if L has had a temp for longer than 4 days it is highly likely it is now bacterial and not viral.... If it's not down tomorrow I would go back and be insistent.

Come to us for a holiday, do come, the price of flights are going down by 20%,soon it will be cheaper to fly than to go and see Take That. It has been blardy hot today, that should shift all those yeuky bugs you all seem to have.

Dh has a hectic travel schedule coming up, so Scoot, SOH, anyone else who is doing the lonesome mum thing, we can hang out together, even on a Friday night.

How is the running SOH? I did 10k today, but I feel exhausted now!

MKG, have you voted yet? Tell us, tell us, who did you vote for? I can't believe people have been queueing for more than 4 hours to vote Is it going to be success for our Kenyan boy? If he gets in this country will go wild I'm telling you.

LG&T, we watched HSM today for the first time. It's a slippery slope downwards from here isn't it? Dd has also got a tamagotchi. It already has babies.

thegreatscooscreamy · 03/11/2008 17:08

What do you mean bacterial not viral?Im thick. What could be wrong with her? >>chucks mean mummy badge away and starts panicking

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/11/2008 17:16

No no no don't panic. Simply put, most virus provoke an immune system response which means the person develops a natural immune reaction to the virus, usually during a high temperature, it is believed that the high temperature itself can be a good thing as it helps the immunity develop quicker so there is an argument for not dosing a child with calpol/nurofen as it slows this process down. If a person has a bacterial infection rather than a viral infection the body can't produce the necessary immunity and needs some kind of help, ie antibiotics to get rid of it. Sometimes having a virus can lead to a secondary bacterial infection as the immune system is compromised. Does that make sense???

thegreatscooscreamy · 03/11/2008 17:21

Um yes I think .What shall I do with L?She isnt getting better and I darent not give her medecine as she might have one of her febrile fits if she gets too hot..
I beg of you..I am truly fed up with one or all of us being sick. And poor L looks like death warmed up

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/11/2008 17:23

Also, they only way they can tell for certain it is viral or bacterial is through a blood test to measure the white blood cell count. Obviously this is quite traumatic for a child and takes time, so most GP's would, I assume, opt for the antibiotic route. Though of course too many antibiotics means the body becomes resistant to their effects, hence why GPs try not to prescribe them unless they really have to.

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/11/2008 17:24

How many days has she had the temp for?

thegreatscooscreamy · 03/11/2008 17:30

Since Thursday afternoon..four and a half..

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/11/2008 17:36

I would say trust your instinct, if you feel she has not perked up at all by say Wed or the temp has not gone down at all, then take her back, ask to see and different GP and be insistent, don't be fobbed off. In the meanwhile, if the temp drops even a little, then she should start to get better perhaps very slowly. If you are worried about her fits then you must of course, give her pain relief. The non giving of pain relief theory is quite controversial

thegreatscooscreamy · 03/11/2008 17:45

There is only one GP at our practice (possibly because he is such a twit that no one else wants to work with him)I will see how we get on.Thanks Master.
Usually I dont panic about things like this.I am losing my powers..
What drug is it you want again?Do you need a prescription for it?

thegreatscooscreamy · 03/11/2008 17:49

Dr Master..L is now complaining of feeling freezing cold and shivering (although she is hot to touch)What could this mean?
I wish DH would come home..he is at college. Then he could worry with me.

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/11/2008 17:56

Oh bugger about the one GP. The hot and cold shivery is the body's way of dealing with the fever, wrap her up warm, after a bit she will be all hot again and quite clammy I expect. A fever often spikes late afternoon early evening. When did you last give her calpol/nurofen? Is she complaining of anything specific hurting?

thegreatscooscreamy · 03/11/2008 18:06

Her Tummy. But she always says that, because she copies me with my gippy tummy problems at the moment..hard to know if it hurts her really or if she is just saying so due to that..Also she wont eat so might just be hungry.(she turned down even chocolate, offered in desperation, earlier so I know she is really sick

She had Nurofen at 1.30 and Calpol at 5..

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/11/2008 18:23

You could give her another nurofen dose just now then, my dr here showed me their dose guidelines and its higher than it says on the bottle and is related to weight so I always give J more than it says on the bottle for best effect. Fingers crossed her temp goes down a bit tonight and she and you have a good sleep. It's so tough when they are sick and you feel so helpless. Thinking of you all.

JamInMyWellies · 03/11/2008 18:27

Oh Scoot poor L, why dont you phone the out of hours GP and get a second opinion there.

thegreatscooscreamy · 03/11/2008 18:28

Medised later?Or not advisable?Think a sleep is what she needs (and me TBH)but wonder if wise to dope her up if she is this poorly. It might mask her other symptoms..
Thanks BTW..Advice appreciated

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/11/2008 18:33

A sleep is always beneficial. We don't do Medised so I can't advise on it, but I find a good dose of nurofen usually knocks them out anyway.
