Thank you for sympathy ladies - I will get through it ok as I know the routine.

CSWS - I tandem feed for first month or so after dd born and it definately helped as I was able to feed ds first and newborn dd wasn't overwhelmed by a watermelon boob and jet stream of milk! I feel sorry for Polly trying to latch on to these mega-boobs! She has only lost 25g this week though so midwife is happy.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 24/10/2008 16:58

Just updated my profile to add pic of dd2.

star6 · 24/10/2008 20:14

Good idea pistachio maybe we will start with weekend mornings.
thanks csws going to show dh your comment about needing a few extra pounds to bf! that makes sense too.

loulou33 · 24/10/2008 21:12

Hi all,

Star - you get a prize for the most posts halloween smileys just for you!!!

Joe slept so well last night i went to check on him to make sure he was ok. he slept from 8pm til 2am, he was asleep again by 3am and i had to wake him at 8.30 as my right boob was enormous and massively out of proporiotn to my left one!! He's been really sleepy today as well and much less colicky. I have put him bakc on dentinox colic drops as i had switched to infacol as the chemist had run out of dentinox - think it works better for him.

Star - will try the resuable breast pads as i find the disposable ones show through your clothes as they are a bit lumpy, particularly the tommee tippee ones which are really expensive and the only ones they sell in our chemists .

Hope you're ok pepper

Right i'm off to bed, hope you all have a good night and all the babes sleep like...well...babies

star6 · 25/10/2008 01:57

thsnks loulou! dsslept from 9-1.30pm.... slowly moving the time up! now feeding (after 30 min of trying to latch on...) so hopefully another sleep is coming up!!

star6 · 25/10/2008 02:06

sorry. 9pm-1.30am

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/10/2008 08:09

ds still not doing more than 2.5hrs in one stretch, and even that's on top of us!
Got him some canesten for his bum yesterday, so hopefully that will start to improve soon.

OP posts:
star6 · 25/10/2008 08:52

I put sudocreme on his bum last night, what do yyou do, stick them in the bath after every nappy change then re apply? wet cotton wool does not remove it and surely you need to apply it fresh after it has mixed with their wee?

loulou33 · 25/10/2008 09:52

morning - no star i think as its a barrier cream the wee shouldn't get through it onto the skin. I would use a wipe to take most off and then reapply but give it a good wash twice a day and give the area a chance to 'breathe' with time without a nappy (messy but better for his skin). Well done for getting him to have long sleep later - 4 1/2 hours is really good)

I managed to get Joe to go down in his cot while still half awake last night as previously we have spent hours sitting with him patting his back and rocking him which sometmes seemed to keep him from falling deeply asleep iyswim. He went off to sleep by himself with just a few murmurs. I wouldn't leave him to cry at this age but he seems able to get off himself. i think Joe is more used to being put down awake as the nurses in the hosp made me put him back under his lights as soon as he finished feeding so i couldn't cuddle him for long. He's also nearly 11lbs now so seems more able to sleeping longer between feeds.

Weather is really bad here had some power cuts and its really wet and windy - another indoor day with 2 year old, oh joy!!

Lozza70 · 25/10/2008 10:37

Morning all. Very glad to be here today as I had a massive allergic reaction to my lunch yesterday, collapsed and was rushed to resusitation???? at A&E with my tongue swollen out of my mouth. Luckily DH was working at home and called 999 as I could not speak. I think he had the life scared out of him in the ambulance as my blood pressure dropped and then my heart rate was so low it set off the alarms. He was checking out our wills this morning

Little Sander slept through the whole thing including travelling to the hosp in an ambulance with the lights and sirens going! The paramedics and hosp sorted me out with piriton and adrenalin and I was discharged yesterday evening. God bless the NHS!

Apart from all of that things are going okay here. Colief seems to be helping with Sander's wind and general unsettled evenings and we have managed to get feeds to be every 3 hours now instead of 2 which means a little more sleep in a row at night

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/10/2008 11:32

Eek Lozza - scary. Do you know what you reacted to?

star - as loulou says, sudocreme just provides a barrier, so don't worry if some is left on.

Lozza70 · 25/10/2008 13:14

Unfortunately I don't know what it is that I am allergic to. I've had mild reactions occasionly when I have eaten out, usually junk food, over the last 3 years but just hives and I thought I was sensitive to some kind of commercial preservative or something but never like this before. Very scary but I'm off to my GP on Monday to get a referral to an allergy clinic to see if I can get some type of testing so I know what to avoid.

oh great news myjob!
so babies smile at 5 wks? can't wait!!
I just decided to pump my sore side so turned on pump and 2min later, quinlan starts to wake up so dh says he'll change the nappy. He looks and is like, that's strange, I thought I smelled it - then discovers it's up his back. baby is kicking about now and poo is on legs and heels now that he's moved the nappy down. baby is now screaming because cold with no clothes and being wiped with cold wipes. dh then discovers he's got poo on the mat - so removes the nappy and starts to wipethe mat... then i remind him to apply sudocreme on his bum.... he dips 3 fingersin the pot and gets a good amount on his fingers then wipes it ALL OVER his bottom! baby is screaming and now starting weeing everywhere... dh sees it and grabs the (dirty) nappy to block the wee spraying... but gets poo back on the baby from the dirty nappy! at this point i'm laughing so hard at him but heartbroken for poor baby, so I remove the pump and go pick him up. dh warns me not to do that without a nappy ("because anything could happen!") and rushes to cover him with a nappy. Hilarious!

SmudgeyDoodle · 25/10/2008 15:16

Hey ladies. Just popping in to say hi and to see how you're all doing. Still nothing happening here but not feeling too fed up yet. Not looking forward to the million nappy changes a day cos we only change DS about 4 times! Can imagine we are going to keep forgetting. Lozza so pleased that you are alright - sounds very scary so I hope you find out soon what you need to avoid.
Back to ball bouncing for me....

loulou33 · 25/10/2008 15:28

Good story star - sounds like oyur dh needs more nappy changing practice. Joe asleep in sling - he's not keen on it and i'm not very confident with it but i think i've mastered it somehow!!

Lozza - glad you're ok but sounds very scary, hope the allergy clinic can pinpoint what you're allergic to asap

Myjob - taht's sooo lovely that Naomi is smiling. Joe only jsut making eye contact with us when he's not griping with wind so i'm hoping for some smiles soon (loulou trying not to get worried as Joe is 6 1/2 weeks and also not to get too of myjob!!)

pepperrabbit · 25/10/2008 19:22

Lozza - how scary! I hope they can identify your allergy quickly.
star - I'm trying desperately not to laugh at your DH as it hurts too much laugh! honestly - men!

I had a lovely time at the hospital yesterday, could barely walk by the time I arrived, midwife took one look at me and said (in a nice way) "I'm not touching your tummy, I'm calling the doctor"
2 hours later the doctor pitches up when all painkillers have worn off....
Anyway, I have a kidney infection and a uterus infection and am in a vicious cycle of uterus not reducing as it should and bleeding a lot cos of the infection and not being able to tell what's going on cos of the bleeding which isn't helping the infection....
So, I have many antibiotics, they took blood samples and swabs and if I'm not better by Tues or get worse it's back in for a scan and IV.
It's lucky I have a very large family who all rallied round to help look after 3 children at no notice yesterday!

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/10/2008 21:26

Welcome back pepper. Hope the abs kick in soon. My GP did say that those with gestational diabetes were more prone to infections.

DON'T FORGET THE CLOCKS GO BACK AN HOUR TONIGHT LADIES. Somebody tell the babies they can sleep for an extra hour .

Can I join? DS was born on the 16th October at home in the birthing pool, weighed 9lbs 13.5oz (DD was only 7lbs 15.5oz!).

Feeling rather shell shocked at the moment trying to cope with 2 children - going from 1 to 2 has been harder than 0-1 for me.

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 25/10/2008 21:29

Oh and his name is Zachary , Scarlett is my eldest.

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/10/2008 21:45

Glad to see you here milf. You have fab taste in names. I wanted Zachary for ds but couldn't convince dh.
