CSWS we had the same problem at our hearing test. we tried for over an hour to do it and gave up in the end, went back a few days later and he was fast asleep.
STAR sorry Q had a bad day, maybe he was just having an off day? alex can be very moany in the evenings and just wants to feed and feed and wont settle for anyone but me. i've found that putting him in the car seat and going for a little drive often puts him to sleep. maybe you friend could try that?

i am officially a numpty. alex has his 8 week check up, so i toddle off to the drs this morning, pay £2.50 to park the car, and find out the appointment is for tomorrow! , i blame the hormones!!!

jenwa · 11/12/2008 09:50

star poor you, I am sure like csws said it could be a number of things but we never really know why, maybe just not having you or your Dh feed him and noticing you not there especially if he latched on well to you when you got him etc, it may just take time to adjust to the routine as it is a different setting and not his mummy. You have a very good friend though and she obviously managed ok as did not get you out off work to come home so hopefully he will adapt and be fine. Is it poss for her to take him out for walk or drive to help him sleep?

Got my HV 6 week appt this afty. Had Drs postnatel yest and all good. I did ask about colic though as worried Phoebe may have it as unsettled in eves but not sure if this is just babys unsettled time
Had a good night though, she had a bottle at 7 after her bath and although was awake at 8 for an hour (cold and cough) she went back to sleep til 1:30 and then again at 7:30 !
What do you give babies who are coughing? I did give her a little boiled water yest as she cried alot when coughing, but I dont think you can give medicine yet right?

Hi all, I haven't read the previous threads but I hope all are well. I have an exciting day planned... a trip to Asda!! We've not been out much in the last 10 days since the measles outbreak was announced so I am pretty excited about going!

Went for the 6 week check up yesterday, Poppy is fine, I have a bad allergic reaction to maternity pads!!!!!! They've given me a steroid cream to apply to the area which makes me a bit nervous about bfing but doc said they'd be ok...

So once that's cleared up DH and I can do the deed again...

heather1980 · 11/12/2008 12:55

thanks everyone, i swear i am going mad!!
it's £2.50 for 1 hours parking!!! its a new surgery, it only opened a few weeks ago, the old one had a free car park, so it's even more annoying that we have to pay now. the surgery is a new super surgery, in the new year there will be a walk in centre, out of hrs drs, dental access centre and chemist opening in there. also a minor injury unit with an xray machine and day surgery unit. it's meant to take pressure off the a&e dept at the local hospital.

appointment was awful, they gave him his jabs as well and i wasn't expecting them as i haven't had the letter through for them yet, i hate needles so i had to close my eyes for that bit!!
i was feeding him when they did it and he let out the loudest wail when the needle went in i had to sit in an empty room and nurse him to calm him down. he's fast asleep now and snoring his head off so he seems ok.
he was 13lb and 62cm long, and is otherwise ok. so that's 3lb 11oz in 8 weeks!

CantSleepWontSleep · 11/12/2008 17:31

heather - it cost me £3 to park for the hearing thing. That allowed me to park all day, but it was a long stay car park with no cheaper option. Even more annoying then that we'll have to go back. Free at our gp's though.

jenwa - calpol if 2 months for severe cough, nothing before, but tbh I don't think anything really fixes coughs, least of all specific cough mixture. You can get a baby meltus, but can't remember what age it's from.

heather - we beat you with 4lbs 12oz gained in 8+4 weeks .

still no 6-8 week check here. Surgery is supposed to be phoning me back with an appt, but i think that the receptionist keeps forgetting.

Another reasonable night last night, although ds rejected the Amby. I think that I need to start religiously using infacol and gaviscon for some of the night feeds, as he was regurgitating quite a lot last night, poss due to me having a lot of milk (because there was a much longer stretch than usual beforehand) so he got a bit drowned in foremilk. Dh back tonight so not sure how we'll all sleep, as ds has taken over half of dh's share of the bed!

OP posts:
Honeymoonmummy · 11/12/2008 18:41

Star - is that what happens re foremilk? Cos I've noticed since I've started expressing that Poppy is regurgitating more.

Also, I can only express on the other boob at the same time as feeding. I can't get anything out of the boob i've been feeding from afterwards. Does this mean I'm just expressing a load of hind milk? I'm expressing 1-2oz at a time, cant seem to get any more at the moment.

Thanks all Better day today! Q slept most of the day with my friend and fell asleep after a big feed when we got home as well. He's still sleeping soundly on his cot mattress (still can't find bolts/pegs!). We were given this cot by friends and they put bolts in a plastic bag - we have no idea where we put them when we got the cot 6 months ago!
Apparently when he wasn't sleeping, he was smiling and laughing (I heard him do it this morning). So cute! I can't believe he can giggle!
DH's school was closed down because of an illness everyone was catching... so he now has from tomorrow until 5th January off! I have one more week of school to teach before 2 week holiday, but DH will be able to stay home with him all next week and tomorrow! My friend is gutted (loves spending time with ds! i might still bring him over for some visits just to stay used to that environment and her) but so excited he'll get to be "home" more... it's like an extra 3 weeks he'll get to be at home and this week was just a trial. Feeling great about this!

star6 · 11/12/2008 20:44

BUT... admittedly... a bit nervous about DH having sole charge of 10 week old ds... I know he's the daddy, but he's a daddy not a mommy... is it weird that I'm anxious about that? He always does a great job with him, not sure why I feel this way!

Have you all gone to another thread???
Or are we in some twilight post natal zone where everyone is too tired to post today??
I just wrote all my Christmas cards and am feeling very virtuous.
Have also just started the the period from hell - we're talking maternity pads here just so I could get to school and back and collect DS1
Hope everyone is well!

jenwa · 12/12/2008 19:53

myjob thanks for tips. She still couchingbits but not so bad today. Have kept her upright in bed on mattress buy putting rolled up sheet under it.

HV all went well, she is doing fab for her age and very aware and alert.

star glad Q had much better day and you feel better. Also fab news re your DH at home, mine would still want the childcare though !!!

pepperrabbit think it the latter re too tired to post I need to complete my xmas cards, actually I need to complete alot of things
re periods too, my friend said hers was awful too, maybe the lack of it for 9 months!

Honeymoonmummy · 12/12/2008 20:14

Hi all, I managed to escape for 2 hours today for the first time since 5 Nov! I went shopping in town, I did all my christmas shopping in those 2 hours (smug emoticon)

Have not expressed all day today tho

I have a work Xmas do next Fri that I'm trying to go to but I dont think its gonna happen and its not the end of the world if it doesn't. I'd rather use my expressed milk to go out with DH for a meal and let the grandparents babysit.

star6 · 12/12/2008 20:36

jenwa just noticed your (new?) pics! She is so adorable!!

perkypopsy · 12/12/2008 20:39

Hi mummies have been awol hanging on by fingernails looking after Stella - lush to read over your posts and see that you are all going through same things as me. She's 8 weeks now and it has been a steep learning curve to say the least - she is in bed now though and I'm having a lovely glass of wine mmmmmm
Struggling a bit with breast feeding - did introduce 2 bottles of formula and now trying to wean her off it as she glugs it down on top of breast feeds and is now a fat bloater (was too skinny...god can't get it right)
Anyway - hope you are all well and enjoying your wind up to Christmas with the new babies - is very nice not to be worrying about work but am a bit not to be off for an xmas do this year
xxxx

Pepperabitt and Honeymoonmummy you can take your smugness with having written Christmas cards and done your shopping and just.....
I tried to take both little ones into town on thursday to get some shopping done. i did get a few bits and then needed to change nappies and feed and that was the end of the shopping trip. We had a picnic in the babychange room of M&S! I've managed to write 4 cards this evening and then DD wants cuddles and now it's a bit awkward to write with her across my knee - that's my excuse anyway. i'm planning on persuading DH to take both of them out for an hour tomorrow and then I can get most of the cards done.
Star - sounds great for DH to spend lots of time with Q. I hope he'll also be looking after you and cooking lovely meals etc I think I too would feel a bit strange if DH was being at home like that though so don't worry. I have a horrible feeling that DS is about to come out with chicken pox. Spent a long weekend with cousins 2 weekends ago and youngest one came out with it the day we left. part of me wants them to get in but only if they can have it mildly. How is everyone's sleep going? DD now seems to manage ok in moses basket and I dont think it's anything we did, just kept trying and not pushing it if she didn't settle. Going to look at photos again now and will put some of ours up too.
