he did cry right afterward... but who wouldn't, right? I wanted to call right away (you know me!) but dh says he's fine...

purpleflower · 14/10/2008 17:03

Hi all, is it ok if I join?

DD was born on the 3rd but was late so I was due in september but never joined the antenatal threads. She was born at home with paramedics watching, they were called because of meconium in her waters but by the time they got here (4 mins later) I was pushing. They only stayed because 1 had never seen a birth and DP said it was ok, at that point i didn't care about strange men staring at my bits She was 8lb 10.5. I already have a DS who was 2 on the 2nd so their birthdays are a day apart.

Try not to worry too much star, DS fell onto DD in bed a couple of days ago. They really are much stronger than we think, although I am only realising that second time round and would've really panicked with DS.

CSWS, I hope you get it sorted, sounds painful

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/10/2008 18:08

Confirmed as boils. Apparently more susceptible to stuff like this because of the diabetes. Now have a week of antibiotics, but will hopefully start to feel a bit better in a day or two.

Congrats and welcome purpleflower .

well its all quiet here! maybe you are all off for an early night. How bad it is having to catch an hour here and there! I'm on night duty tonight so might hit the sack about 1 if I'm lucky.

been to HV today. It was actually DS's due date today and weighed in at 10lb 4oz . I do wonder what he would have been if he did indeed arrive today.

DD2 is having major probs with sibling jealously at the moment. DS has a "mini" travelcot to sleep in when downstairs and we've had to put this inside the big travelcot and make him a "fortress" as DD2 is climbing in and picking him up and generally being quite rough with him.

CSWS - we don't have the "boo boo" issue as I failed with the DDs and although desperate to try with DS I made the choice to go to formula after seeing so many mums return to hospital during my stay who were bf and had babies who were losing loads of weight. I really had to do anything to aid the reduction of any PND.

twinklytoes · 14/10/2008 21:02

oh, I've posted in "health" but anyone here got any views on taking part in a vaccine research project for menengitis b vaccine? Ds has been asked to participate.

CantSleepWontSleep · 14/10/2008 21:31

Hope you are managing to avoid PND this time twinkly .

Think I'm off to bed in a few mins too, although no doubt ds will want to feed for hours more as soon as I get up there .

Weigh in day tomorrow. Curious to know how we're doing, as there was loads and loads of meconium for a couple of days, but he's been feeding lots too.

twinklytoes · 14/10/2008 21:37

have a good sleep. dd2 just got up so will be a while before we hit the sack.

Lozza70 · 15/10/2008 08:25

Welcome purpleflower and congrats. Your baby's arrival sounds all very calm. I cannot imagine not having been in hospital.

We have had another really broken night last night. Sander is a really noisy sleeper, he seems to spend the night fighting his sleep and wakes about every 2 hours. I cannot let him lie once he starts to get really frustrated and pick him up. He then can sleep quietly in my arms for at least half an hour before waking for a feed. Am I going to have to bite the bullet and leave him to cry for a bit to try and stretch out his sleep? Any advice gladly received [sleep deprived ecomotion]

star6 · 15/10/2008 09:35

Lozza wondering the same... Quinlan will actually sleep on my chest or in my arms for hours... but not in cot - well, not until 7am wen he's exhausted!

star6 · 15/10/2008 09:36

when not wen

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/10/2008 09:39

Well it's different horses for different courses Lozza. I can't let a tiny baby cry for more than a couple of minutes, so we have fallen into co-sleeping with ds limpet-like for the time being. He feeds for about 1/3 of the night, sleeps on me for another 1/3, and on dh for the remaining 1/3. And dh thinks he's getting a raw deal .
I'll take him for some cranial osteopathy in a couple of weeks if things haven't improved by then.
Are you managing to nap in the day when Sander does?

Boil update is that one burst last night, and as disgusting as it was, it has provided much relief this morning!

star6 · 15/10/2008 09:40

he's also been getting really red in the face and crying sometimes even when he does a poo in his nappy... or in the bath or on the towel or wherever is that normal? for it to be so difficult to move bowels?

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/10/2008 09:47

Ds gets upset sometimes by farts and pooing star. I think they just don't understand what's going on, rather than it actually being difficult to do, as from the number of poos ds is doing it can't be hard!
How often are yours all pooing, esp those that are breastfed, as I know that this can make a big diff?

OP posts:
twinklytoes · 15/10/2008 09:50

we get a red faced ds too. think its normal. tends to be when he's trying to get the last wind up.

lozza - we've had a similar night. hasn't really settled. actually think ds might have colic so we're adding in the infacol before feeds and fingers crossed for some relief soon

twinklytoes · 15/10/2008 09:54

the poo settled down here. gone from every nappy to just daytime changes in the last couple of days

Lozza70 · 15/10/2008 12:11

We are getting 2 or maybe 3 poo nappies a day but are bottle feeding so will be different than you csws

DS gets the old red face too but I think it is just the effort as opposed to it hurting!

Twinkly we are taking some time to get wind up so the sleeplessness may be colic related. Will look into that.

Just had mw round. She said that even before, during and after each feed pooing would be quite normal, which is about what we get, so that's reassuring. Ds weighed in at 8lb 3oz, so only dropped 1oz from his birthweight, which is cool.

Have those of you with troublesome sleepers tried swaddling btw? Works a treat with some babies.

ronshar · 15/10/2008 13:26

Hello ladies. I have finally found some time to get on the computer.

William poos alot. He gets a very calm look on his face when it is about to happen. Then he makes the most outrageous noise that sends DD2 into fits of laughter every time. I have been poo'd on at least 3 times! the wee is even better, like a fire hose. I knew girls were easier.
If I remember right the DD's both had the runny yellow poo for most of the time they were breast fed. It only gets more solid when weaning starts.

William loves sleeping on people. He isnt even that fussy. As long as you are sat still he doesnt mind. At night he sleeps in moses basket by my side of the bed. As DH pointed out that there is no need for him to wake up as he cant feed. As long as his blankets are tucked in nice and snug he settles really nicely. Sleeps for 3-4 hours like that.

Star how is baby after his bump. They are tough little packages. Just wait till he rolls off the bed!

CSWS are the boils all burst yet?

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/10/2008 13:50

No more bursting ronshar, but am feeling much more mobile today, so think we're going to take dd shoe shopping after school.

OP posts:
ronshar · 15/10/2008 14:09

Will arnica help with the boils? I burnt my fingers on my GHD's last week and themount of arnica I have been taken for the downstairs bruising seems to have helped heal my fingers in record time.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/10/2008 14:10

I'm taking it anyway (though my new pot doesn't seem to like dispensing them ), so it might have been even worse otherwise .

OP posts:
ronshar · 15/10/2008 14:31

Yes my blue pot is very stingy with the pills. Only lets me have one at a time. Does it not realise I am a new mother, not to be messed with!!

I have just realised the time, I should probably get out of bed and go and get DD1 from school!

loulou33 · 15/10/2008 16:39

Hello all,

Joe is off to hsop in Monday for blood transfusion - oh joy...

Had a really tough week, hence why i've been absent. joe has been really windy and sick ++ after every feed. despite this he has been gaining 10 oz or so a week so i think i'm overfeeding - he's hungry all the tiem. Very unsettled during the day, better at night but has trapped wind and gurns, groans and strains even in his sleep (bless him, DS1 used to scream when he had trapped wind but Joe just seems to put up with it) but we can't sleep for listening to him.

Paediatrician has diagnosed reflux (like DS1) which has really upset me but i'm not convinced, i think its a combo of wind and overeating so we'll see.

CSWS sympathy for the boils - sounds horrible. I haven't been co-sleeping with Joe as he seems to be more settled if i put him in crib at night but i have to warm it first with hot water bottle as our house is like the arctic at night!!

DS1 coping really well with Joe and is being so sweet, giving him kisses and bringing him toys etc - heart melting stuff..

Star your hv need shooting, i can only express 2/3oz but i know that Joe is taking more than this in his feed - god why are some health professionals so poorly informed!!

Right better go and do things whilst DS1 playing and Joe asleep

xx

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/10/2008 21:06

Oh loulou - how horrid for you all. How does a transfusion help reflux?
Am wondering today if ds might have a touch of reflux, poss silent like dd's was. Just hoping he doesn't turn out to be milk intolerant like she was, as I really don't fancy giving up dairy again. Will have to keep an eye on things for a bit. Wouldn't get a clear result if I gave it up now because of the antibiotics.
