Hi all
Well I braved merryhill today with both children and got on very well, dd2 slept all the time and I fed her sleeping too dd1 was great also, prob because I got her a little tinkerbell doll which she played with all day
tried settling dd2 last night and she fed at 7 ish and then took 5oz at 1030 and slept til 5am! I think I am going to think about bottles all the time now as she sleeps longer and seems happier all in all we are all happy then

star6 · 04/12/2008 19:31

jenwa what's merryhill?
csws let us know how amby nest goes...
myjob - finally!! a sensible hv! dont be of Q... he's developing little chubby fat rolls everywhere lol

star6 · 04/12/2008 19:36

oh and 1st day back at work was so
kids were excited to have their teacher back... but i was just in a daze. feeling awful because Q is too young to explain it to! He took about 400ml of expressed milk while I was away from 8am-3.45pm and has been bf frequently since I got him back. so happy to see him and cuddle him

myjob - poor ds!! So sorry to hear that. I hope he is better soon. poor little guy!

Aubergenie · 04/12/2008 22:13

Oh myjob I hope DS gets better soon.

Glad you survived the first day Star. I bet you couldn't wait to get home.

CSWS - I'm waiting with baited breath to hear how you get on with the Amby. I hope it goes well!

pepperrabbit · 04/12/2008 22:21

Hello all,
CSWS, glad you got a little rest at last - how was your GTT (or did i miss the results?).
myjob - sorry to hear DS is si poorly, you really have been in the wars in your house these last few weeks.
star - well done for getting through the first day at work.
We're all well here, HV came for DDs 6 week check today, went well, she's 10 lb 5oz (at 7 weeks) so exactly Mrs Average on the (evil) growth charts.
DH is at his Christmas lunch today - yes, lunch - and no he's not home yet. Terrified he'll sleep past the train stop and end up at the end of the line (Southampton) and have to get a cab back . It's happened before, and never costs less than £100 .
I'll string him up if it happens again....
DD Will Not Sleep this evening, so she's downstairs with me and I've had the sort of day where I've no idea if I should feed her or leave her as she's looking drowsy but it's a couple of hours since her last feed.
TBH she seems to wake at 3.05am regardless of how we manipulate her feeds so I might as well go to bed and hope drunken DH doesn't wake her.

pepperrabbit · 04/12/2008 22:32

Splendid.
DH is home. Passed out on sofa shortly after tripping over DD's little chair where she was finally asleep.

star6 · 05/12/2008 06:03

pepper ds fav time to wake and feed is 3am,too!! thought of you this morning
although he was up to feed a LOT last night...
for you about dh. dont go easy on him today!

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/12/2008 08:18

No miracle cures from the Amby. Ds woke 1 min after going into it the first time. Tried again after a feed around midnight, and he seemed to like the bouncing, but again only settled for a minute. Tried him in it again at 4am, and whilst he stayed in it for half an hour, sometimes with me bouncing and sometimes not, he didn't actually sleep in it, so then came back into bed with me.

Haven't had results of GTT yet Pepper - might phone and see if they are in this morning. Finger prick that they did was 4.5 though, which is fine.

star sorry, merryhill is a shopping complex about 45 mins-1hr away and got toys r us and disney store etc so spent most of it in toy shops!!! And for you being back at work, hope it is all ok.

myjob sorry, thinking about FF and stopping BF although I fed dd (bf)at 6 am and she is still sleeping now so am confussing myself what to do! I am so anal and OCD about things and like to have perfect routines and I dont really live in the rl!!! so I just want things to run along as I want them too and get stressed out when they dont, I am obsessive about cleaning etc and find it hard to feed dd and not get on with stuff as dont know how long she will settle and feel if she had ff she would settle longer! . Sorry, just stress myself about it!

pepperrabbit · 05/12/2008 09:40

Morning all,
jenwa if it helps, I am FF and my days are just as random as BF ever was. The plus side for me is that physically a long gap between feeds doesn't effect me, but there is the huge hassle of washing, sterlising bottles and measuring formula etc.
If you do FF I'd buy a second kettle (mine was £4.99 from Argos!) then you always have one that you know exactly when you last boiled it and can keep just for baby.
CSWS sorry your night wasn't magically cured, but maybe DS will get used to it and settle for longer gradually?
DH looking very ropey this morning. I managed to queue jump him to the shower this morning, leaving him to handle all three with a hangover while I had a long hot shower. Now he's late for work

pepperrabbit thank you, good advice re kettle, I always forget how long ago it boiled!
myjob Thank you also, I think I am just thinking it may be easier, but like pepper said there is the hassle of making bottles etc and also it is more expensive

Off to tescos now for a couple of things, dd should sleep then

star6 · 05/12/2008 12:04

Hi all... just quick... I jsut rang my friend from work and Q has had 7 SEVEN poo nappies (FULL) within 2 1/2 hours she said his face is getting all red and he's straining and nothing comes out then he relaxes and it all comes out.
What do you think? Upset tummy? Maybe something I ate?
called gp for a callback

star6 · 05/12/2008 12:40

and I have the WORST luck with expressing. Just went in my little expressing room... did it, and tripped over cord, knocked over FIVE OZ of milk onto the carpet!!

Honeymoonmummy · 05/12/2008 16:39

5 oz???? How long were you expressing for Star?? I've now started expressing but only seem to manage about 1-2 oz a DAY!!! DH gave DD her first bottle the other day...she drank it (only 2 ozs) then came back to the boob for 45 mins!!! I dont think she's leaving anything for me to express!!

CSWS I think you and I are in a similar position, altho Poppy will sleep well if in bed with me. To date she wont settle in her moses, altho I have just started trying again and she slept for 2 hours in it this afternoon! I've been looking at co-sleeper cots.

loulou33 · 05/12/2008 16:43

hi all,
Star that's an absolute nightmare when that happens. dh dropped a container of my expressed milk on the floor the other day as he reached into the fridge for something!! Hope your first week at work was ok and sounds like q is doing ok as well - wouldn't worry about lots of poos, joe goes days without onwe then does six a day, its just their system working (if he had 400ml in 1/2 day yesterday, i expect he overate and today he's getting rid of all the extra food he didn't need, greedy boy)

Joe had his second jabs today, poor lamb but he seems to have survived them ok so far. Has been more unsettled this past few days as i stopped his colic drops, so i've started them again and he's much more settled today. i have some colief that i got for Joe but made no difference to him - its so expensive (£10) that i thought someone else could use it if they had a colicky one like me.

Myjob glad your hv was so sensible about the weight gain, i guess if naomi has been ill her wieght gain will be less but she's still gaining. Joe barely gained any weight when he was ill so you're doing really well. your ds also weighs much more than mine and they are roughly the same age. DS1 was a big baby but your ds has clearly cuaght up with mine now!! I'm sure Naomi will do the same. Sorry your ds has been poorly and fingers crossed you've had you fill of illnesses now

Anyone bfing thinking about being sober at xmas - i'm not usre how i will cope, maybe one glass will be ok

Honeymoonmummy · 05/12/2008 16:44

Doh!

Aubergenie · 05/12/2008 17:07

Oh no Star! I would have been almost in tears if that had happened to me. It's like liquid gold isn't it!

CSWS - Sorry to hear the Amby hasn't been a miracle cure. Maybe things will improve over the next few days [hopeful emoticon]. Incidentally do you find it easy to get DS in and out of it? I was thinking of getting one as I though it would take up less space in our bedroom than a cot but I wondered if it would be tricky to get the baby in and out.

We've got lots of visitors this weekend so I've had a lovely afternoon baking cakes with DS fast asleep in his sling. Spicy carrot cake and coffee and walnut. Mmm.

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/12/2008 20:24

Pleased to hear that ds is brighter today myjob.

Got the all clear from my GTT today . (For those who understand the numbers, fasting was 4.5 and 2 hours post glucose was 5 point something (5.6 I think)).

Hopefully you are right re the Amby myjob - we will keep on trying a bit each night until he hopefully accepts it.
Aubergenie - it's fairly easy to put him in and out of, but it takes up as much space as the crib that we had there before (though less than a cot obv).
Enjoy your weekend of visitors.

loulou - 2 or 3 drinks should be fine whilst bf. I used to be utterly paranoid about it, until I read lots of posts on here about it, including some useful stuff from tiktok, explaining what a tiny weeny amount passes to them. It's been so long since I had a drink though, except for one baileys when ds was just a week or two, that I don't know how I'd cope with any more!

honeymoonmummy - can you not normally put Poppy down at all, day or night?

star - how is Q now?

Right, that's my two handed post done for today. Will take ds back from dh now. Would rather go to bed though .

Wow it has been absolutely ageeeees since I managed to get a look on here. Thought seeing as I had a quiet 5mins I would say hello, don't even know if anyone remembers me lol

Hope you and your gorgeous lo's are doing well. I can't believe how fast the last 9weeks have flown by, kind of, Not the lack of sleep part though!

Harvey woke for a feed every 2hrs day and night for the first 7and a half weeks. I was soooo not ready for that You'd have thought with him being my 4th I'd have known what was coming but my last lo - dd - slept through from 4wks and has ever since and the 2 ds were nowhere near this bad! Even now he will only at the most sleep for 5hrs, if I'm very lucky. I would give anything for one nights uninterrupted sleep

It's been non stop here pretty much with one thing and another. H was born on the 1st, ds1 was 7 on the 2nd, ds 2 was 5 on the 19th and then we've all managed to catch a sickness bug twice since then oh and dd was in hospital yet again for her asthma

I thought we were finally past all that but yesterday dd woke up with a streaming cold, fingers crossed it won't get too bad this time and also had a call from the school to ask me to collect ds1 as he had a headache and sore throat. Ended up taking him to the docs this eve and he has some virus and an ear infection, aargghhhhhhh.

And then there's the small matter of christmas nowhere near ready so I suppose I should do some online shopping whilst I'm on here.

Sorry for the essay, I WILL be back soon, hopefully!
