csws attic looks great, we are still waiting for ours as been on hold due to DH job new stairs should be ready tomorrow though and then we can get on with it again, thinking we are going up there now though as can only have space saving stairs which will be far too dangerous for DD1 as she trips over air!

I am on a low as had appt with consultant yest due to my high frequency hearing loss and it is getting worse so that made me depressed as am scared about the future now. He has offered me a minor op but not sure it will do anything.

Having a nice day hopefully as friend coming for lunch and DD1 at my inlaws so just me DD2 and the dog here and waiting for tescos to arrive and my friend, no doubt they will arrive together and DD2 will scream at the same time as the dog will bark and wake her up had good night though as she had a feed at 6pm from me but then was not settled so gave her a bottle at 8:30 and she took 4oz and still wanted topping up after and eventually slept at 9:30 until 3am, then woke at 8 am

Have used dummies for both mine, pain when they fall asleep and it pops out and they cry so you have to keep putting it in again, trying to not put it back in though as cant be arsed getting up and down all the time to put it back in got rid of DD1's at 18months as best to do before they are 2 due to speech. Also my MW said a dummy was better than a thumb as you can get rid of a dummy

star6 · 27/11/2008 11:23

anyone here not immunized? reading loads of info suggesting not to....

Honeymoonmummy · 27/11/2008 12:45

Morning all! Sore nipples under the shower sounds bloody awful, you have my symopathy!
I had a breastfeeding counsellor round this morning, she said I was feeding fine, she showed me the rugby hold position which I'd not tried before and its GREAT, Poppy has been feeding in that position for 45 mins now and still going!

Re the dummies, another mother told me to try premmie dummies because Poppy seemed to be choking on the newborn ones. I've only tried them once though and she only had it in for a few seconds.

YAY - my slingeasy parcel just arrived - watch this space!!!

Had lovely lunch, was a bot hectic as shopping arrived just as I was about to feed Phoebe and then she screamed whilst I was unpacking and the bloke broke my eggs but then my friend arrive and took over feeding DD as had given her a bottle to make it easier!

myjob the op is a small steroid implant placed behing eardrum so only small procedure but a little scary as the risk could involve losing hearing altogether! It may not even work but maybe its worth a go if its going to go eventually Just not a nice thought
Anyway myjob you seem chilled out, cuppa, cereal bar and magazine, and cuddles . I have just pot one of those blue blocks in the loo and it went all funny and dropped on something so the water was not filling so had to put my hand in and am now stained with blue stuff all over my fingers! Meant to be going for a drink tonight and I look like I have had my hands in blue paint and they smell of bleach! Not attractive really!!!!
myjob I would not complain about the sleep she is obviously doing very well and hopefully is getting enough to keep her going, you are very lucky, I am hoping Phoebe does the same Phoebe sleeps longer and night and can cat nap and roughly feed 3 hrly too in the day, I think it is normal as there is more going on in the day and if they feed more in the day then they are less likely to need it during the night as have had enough (if you see what I mean??!!)

loulou33 · 27/11/2008 17:01

Hi all,

Joe has been more settled this last few days, i think the osteopahty has definitely helped. Had an appt through for weaning talk next week he's only 11 weeks, i have not even thought about giving him anything other than milk!! Also got second jabs next week as well - Joe is 3 months next week, how time flies!!

Star i would advocate immunisation as i have seen the lasting effects of these diseases such as measles first hand, ie deafness, blindness, learning disablities etc. They used to use mercury as a carrier to make the injections go in easier but now they don't.
However, its a personal choice and these illnesses are thankfully very rare and most children who aren't immunised, don't get the illnesses but is it a risk worth taking? I have heard that there there have been outbreaks of illnesses like measles in London due to poor uptake of the vaccines but only you can decide what you want to do for Quinlan. oh and Happy Thanksgiving too!!

ronshar · 27/11/2008 17:13

Star it is a difficult subject but in my experience most people who DONT immumise are those who have never heard a baby coughing till they cant breath from Whopping cough. Or those with no knowledge of children dying from measles etc.

My little sister caught measles when she was 6 months old. It resuted in her being in and out of hospital with repeated operations on her ears. She is almost deaf through scaring.

Sorry if I sound a bit dramatic but in my years as a nurse and ambulance technician I have seen too many children seriously ill because their parents didnt take them for the jabs.

star6 · 27/11/2008 17:30

thanks all. convinced!! Im not a risk taker with my baby's health...

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/11/2008 18:16

hey all, frantiucally catching up, glad to hear babies and mummies are getting better. thanks for reassuring words about it all...my mum left today after staying since dh went back to work so looking forward to our house getting messy and dirty and not having time to cook and having to deal with screaming baby on my own!!

ds has such bad wind, we're worried it might be turning into colic but i still think it's the wind making him unhappy and major overtiredness so really going to make an effort to help him nap during the day more and keep evenings calm and not stimulating. Saw a cranial osteopath today but not seen any improvement so far...had a good night last night though - 1st eve without hours of screaming for 2 weeks, yay!

dh coming home late tonight though, boo!!

jenwa · 27/11/2008 19:32

star we had alot of children with measles recently due to parents not immunising (not saying you have too) as they thought the mmr carried risk of autism but i think it is more that the autism is diagnosed around same time and age mmr jabs were given, anyway, I think that the more children not immunised means a risk of an outbreak of the virus (MMR, menigitis etc) but it is a completely personal opinion.

GWTMH it will be nice for you to have some space now and get into a routine with out your mum there, they are helpful but you may find your ds settles more now as only you about to get him in a routine and no one to take over Sometimes you get more stressed as you are trying to keep your house clean and tidy and be a hostess and a mum and it can get a bit too much! also I dont like it when I know DH coming in late but to be honest I appear to get things done quicker, I eat with DD1 and bath them together and have everything in the bathroom with me and then get them out and feed dd2 then Dh comes home to but DD1 to bed so it works out well, I think when you know it is only you doing it you can do it better without the expectation of someone helping (that is in my case anyway!!! )!!!!

evening all, or night rather...lol
we've all been laid up with cold today, so i've barely moved off the sofa. first day with the cloth nappies and it seems to be going well, but his little bum looks huge! and i've had to put him in 3-6 months sleep suits so i can do the poppers up. he's 6 weeks today and it's flown by.
going to have my 6 week check up on monday, am gonna go on the mini pill, i've not used any contraception for 5 years so i'd better remember to take it! i was gonna have a coil fitted but DH told me that he wants another baby so asked me not to not for another couple of years, at least till alex is in preschool and my DD is at primary school. TBH i can't imagine alex being my last baby and i need to get my money's worth out of the nappies and sling

heather1980 · 27/11/2008 23:36

sart i had DD vaccinated and although it crossed my mind not to, i couldn't not. some of these diseases can kill. also it's the herd vaccination that protects those that can't have the jabs and those with weak immune systems.

star6 · 28/11/2008 01:41

i see that myjob is doing hers at 10 weeks... can i opt for that? i know that was b/c naomi was poorly... it's just that hes scheduled
to have them the day before i return to work...i know they can get poorly after jabs... i'd rather he have them just before one of my holidays so I can be with him....

star6 · 28/11/2008 06:55

when do babies start eating baby rice...etc?

heather1980 · 28/11/2008 08:47

star the current advice is 6 months. but not before 17 weeks.

OMFG i just dropped a bottle of milton and it splashed on my wrap and has bleached it. gutted

star6 · 28/11/2008 08:56

thanks just wondering because of loulou's post.
Oh no heather1980! Sorry that happened to you!

Aubergenie · 28/11/2008 09:03

Morning ladies - Hope you all had a reasonable night. I'm coming down with yet another cold, having just got rid of the last one. Boo! I didn't get a single cold while I was pregnant, but seem to have had one for most of the last 7 weeks.

DS is spending a lot of time growling and straining trying to do a poo. He's really uncomfortable and it happens a lot. Do you think this means that I'm not winding him properly?

*Smudgey You asked a question about co-sleeping ages ago and I never answered. sorry. I put Stan on a blanket or towel and he lies next to me. I pull him round on his side when I start feeding and he lies in the crook of my arm, then I move my arm above his head so I'm curled around him. So I don't actually hold him all night, he just lies next to me. I do sometimes hold his hands as they seem to get really cold during the night. The good thing about having him on the blanket is that I can shift his position if I need to without waking him up.

Star are you going back to work next week?

star6 · 28/11/2008 09:18

yes I am going back to work next week. But I can still get MN there thank goodness
I'm going on Thursday... I'll bring Q in on Wednesday morning for an assembly they are having (just to watch).
dreading it...but only 2 days, then weekend!

ronshar · 28/11/2008 09:32

Star you can change the appointment for jabs. Phone your surgery and ask for appointment the next week. most babies only get a little bit grumpy after the jabs. Luckily my 2 DD's didnt have a reaction to any of the jabs. Not even the MMR. Fingers crossed William is the same. His are next Wednesday.

I am having a coil fitted in a few weeks. I have had several as I managed to get pregnant while on the pill. DH has said he will go for the snip but surprise he hasnt made an appoinment at GP yet! I shall have to make it for him. Or maybe do it for him, might give him a small idea of what I have been through three times

Hope every one is having a lovely rainy Friday.

Honeymoonmummy · 28/11/2008 13:45

Hi all, the sling is a Slingeasy, its a ring sling with padded sides and I think its brill but Poppy is yet to be convinced...I think she'll grow to love it tho!

I have a Christening on Sunday and haven't a CLUE what to wear! All my maternity clothes are black!

Lozza70 · 28/11/2008 14:35

Hello. I don't seem to be able to keep up with MN for running around after Sander! He has picked up a bit of a cold from DH and is really congested and has a cough like a 40 a day smoker. Does any one know if you can put something like Karvol on a tissue on the edge of his moses basket? He is 9 weeks now.

pepperrabbit · 28/11/2008 17:24

ronshar my DH was told he had to wait a year before the snip as they wait till your less emotional before making the decision and also because of infant mortality .
So it's back on the mini pill till I can get a coil fitted.. (just got back from 6 week check up - can you tell!
