Poor thing Star. I'm sure it's not your milk quality. Could it be a growth spurt? Stan (also 7 weeks) is feeding pretty constantly at the moment. It's just so awful when they want to do it at night isn't it.

star6 · 25/11/2008 09:00

it's also that his nose is so congested that he keeps coming off for air

star - that will be exactly why he is taking so long to feed. It takes us longer when we are congested too. I sometimes eat with my mouth open when completely blocked up, but the poor babies can't do that!

Yay for stan taking a bottle and you getting a break Aubergenie. Dd would NEVER take a bottle, so prob should try expressing and see if ds will or not. Anyone know if it's ok to use the teats that we bought for her, as they were not really used bar a few aborted attempts?

Am having a take it easy day today (I hope!). Dd at school til 3, dh gone to London to see recruitment consultant, and ds and I at home trying to get better. Ironically, for the first time since ds born, I don't feel completely knackered and sleepy. Still struggling to breathe though, and throat now sore from all the coughing.
Have a builder, a painter and an electrician here, and a flooring man expected, but hopefully they will all be self-sufficient.

Morning and thanks for the sling advice folks! I think I'm gonna just bite the bullet and order a slingeasy...
Having some pain on first latching on right boob, might call the bf counselling number...

star6 · 25/11/2008 11:26

Honeymoonmummy - I just posted on the bf thread - I'm having this excruciating pain when he latches on the left. I wrote a post on here earlier too... there's a little whitish bubble in the middle and on the side...amongst the cracks. Someone on that thread suggested it could be a "milk blister"... I had to look really closely to see it on mine - might be worth just checking out for you.

Q has been sleeping since 9am... now 11.25... my instincts say to let him sleep, my MIL (on the phone) and books say "wake him up so he'll nap later too"....
oooh tempted fate... he's stirring/crying now. Good thing... my breasts are overflowing!!!

4andnotout · 25/11/2008 11:54

Im very of everyone using their slings, dd4 went in hers once and enjoyed it but has screamed every time since Will probably have to sell it

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/11/2008 12:54

Presume that the rest of you with dc with colds are also experiencing green poo? Ds' is VERY green.

OP posts:
hedgepig · 25/11/2008 14:18

I have borrowed a winklet sling from a friend and it seems pretty good, a little more structured than a wrap sling but not as fixed as a baby bjorn if that makes any sense. |I can get it on by myself unlike the mothercare one I had with ds. I'm happy with it out side but worry about oliver overheating indoors (like the shops not at home). how many layers do you put on the baby indoors?
We are fine, ollie has climbed back to the bottom centile lie at last . jabs next week where has the time flown?

4andnotout · 25/11/2008 14:56

csws i was going to post the same thing, dd4 has a cold and usually her poos are bright orange but they have turned green. I know it usually means they have wind/stomach ache but she certainly doesn't have wind!

Honeymoonmummy · 25/11/2008 16:08

I was told by the midwife that green foamy poo was when they got foremilk but not enough hindmilk?

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/11/2008 17:22

Yes that's def one reason for green poo honeymoon, but am assuming that there are others too.

Glad (iyswim) that you are finding the same 4ano.

OP posts:
star6 · 25/11/2008 17:41

green poo here too csws. i thought no hindmilk as well... but prob the cold actually!
nipples are hurting so much that i cant bear to express...need to! but need to feed more! when will the pain go away??? starting to get the cold ds and dh have so just feeling weaker now. sorry for the whinge.

anyone know how much ebm an 8 week old baby is supposed to take in a bottle for one feed?

Honeymoonmummy · 25/11/2008 18:32

I dont think I'm anywhere near as bad as you nipple-wise Star, major sympathy! I have no blisters, I just want to stop problems before they start as it were. Poppy is 3 weeks old tmrw, so can start expressing next week...I NEED TO BUY A PUMP!!!

star6 · 25/11/2008 18:44

Im selling my elec avent isis iq uno and isis manual if you want! just bought medela ump in style because double needed.

4andnotout · 25/11/2008 20:13

Im a bit worried Tilly-Grace isn't getting enough hindmilk then as her poo went green a couple of times last week when she didn't have a cold, usually our routine is she feeds on one side, then when she stops sucking i change her and then put her to the other side, do you think i should try offering the same breast again? Her poo's are 90% of the time orange and 10% green. This breasfeeding lark is so complicated

heather1980 · 25/11/2008 21:16

evening ladies.
i feel really lucky, i've not had any problems with feeding or sore nipples etc, i've had a couple of blocked ducts but that's it, i feel for you star and hope you feel better soon.

have ordered my nappies and hope that they come tomorrow, i went with the tots bots cottons, as i got a really good deal on them £5.95 each plus £10 off the order with a code. just went out today and bought my last packet of huggies (i hope!)had to get the size 3 as he's too big for the 2s! and we're moving up to 3-6 sleep suits as he's too long for the 0-3 months, luckily his 'proper' clothes still fit, he's only 5 1/2 weeks old

off out tomorrow, my dd has a toddler gymnastics class in the morning, then need to do the food shop, and then off to the trafford centre in the evening with my mum and sister. hopefully will get the rest of the christmas shopping done.

loulou33 · 25/11/2008 21:22

i thought green poo could mean any number of things not just too much foremilk such as overfeeding, not feeding enough, having an infection/virus, you having an infection/virus etc. 10% green poo doesn't seem that bad if she's thriving in other ways. I don't think hv would worry about the occasional green poo, its when they are all green. DS1's poos were green for about 3 months and still no one suggested anything but in hindsight, i think was overfeeding him so that might explain it!!

Star - sorry you're having such a tough time, look after yourself. sounds like quinlan's got a nasty cold too. Joe struggles to feed at the moment with his cold and he seems to swallow loads of air. BTW did you know babies can't breathe through their mouths (osteopath told me this today) so if they have a cold and have blocked nose, feeding must be really hard!!

I have been winding Joe on and off for the last 2 hours. everytime i put him in cot, he cries, i pick him up, he burps and possets and then falls asleep so i put him down again but i know within a few minutes of putting him in bed, he'll wake with wind - aaaahhh!!!

Aubergenie · 25/11/2008 21:29

CSWS - DS didn't get green poo when he had his cold. Talking of colds, Star I bought a nasal aspirator (AKA snot sucker) from the chemist which helped DS's blocked nose. He didn't like it, but it did help with his feeding.

Heather - How many nappies have you ordered? I'm wondering how many to get to start me off bearing in mind I'll probably use disposables at night (I think).

heather1980 · 25/11/2008 23:18

i ordered 16 which i believe is 2 days supply, so 8 to wear 8 to wash.
i'm doing huggies at night to start, just till we get going then hopefully i'll go full time.

nappies came this morning-yeah! they are in the washer as we speak.

no gymmnastics today, we've all woken up with a cold. poor alex doesn't know what to do with himself he's blocked up, dd has a runny nose and i have a sore throat.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/11/2008 11:13

Good luck myjob - sounds frankly terrifying!

Duncan also took from 11:30 to 2:30 to settle last night, but he was then awake again from 4:20 to about 6:15, in a cycle of feed for a while, drift off to sleep for 1 or 2 minutes, then wake up and insist on feeding some more. I suspect that he was trying to build my supply back up, as it had definitely suffered from his day or two of not feeding so much. I would have thought he'd be knackered today, but he's wide awake and the most cheerful I can recall seeing him!
I, of course, am knackered after about 3 hours sleep and still being ill!

Oh, should have said before, but recommend feeding snuffly babies in a warm bath .
