Hello I can finally join you ladies birth story here I am knackered now so shall probably post tommorrow - most likely to complain about watermelon boobs as I can feel my milk is about to come in! Will have a read through to catch up with everyone as well.

1sttimer80 · 21/10/2008 21:17

ok so dozing midsleep is normal and laughing out loud at the changing nappy to wake up lo... I end up having to do that all the time !

I feel like I need to learn so much about the little one!

sambrads · 21/10/2008 22:06

hi ladies thought i would join the group cant believe we have all had our babies its so surreal it was this time last year i was trying to concieve and now im sitting looking at her

can someone plaese tell me what colic is??

dd is a little un settled the same time most nights around 8 she is not always crying but likes to be held or looking about .

last night she slept all night which was so amazing but im sure it was a one off

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/10/2008 22:17

Colic generally defined as 3 hours or more of screaming at a time, usually in the evening, and happening every day, generally starting at or near to 3 weeks.

star6 · 22/10/2008 01:39

DS screams when latching on.... takes forever!! but only because he's hungry I think. Sometimes he goes on straight away. Other times he really struggles, arching back/neck...etc.
sambrads how did she sleep all night without waking to feed? I'm so jealous

Lozza70 · 22/10/2008 01:42

Oh sambrads so at a full nights sleep but well done!

We are trying to deal with colic here and it's tough. DH made some comment about the screaming at 11pm and I huffed and stomped into the spare room dragging DS in his moses basket. Now think I would have been better leaving DS for DH to deal with all night Suppose I'll have to initate make up in the morning if only to have DH watch him while I grab a quick shower.

star6 · 22/10/2008 01:49

If it's colic then baby wont be soothed by feeding right? DH accused me tonight of "never letting him cry and shoving my boob in his mouth every time he does cry"... but the timing is right and I think... I know he's just hungry.

Lozza70 · 22/10/2008 03:25

I think that is right star. I think you will know if it's colic as opposed to normal communication crys.

hi, i for some silly reason thiought we were all staying on the other thread til we all had had the babies! got lots to catch up on but having no time at mo what with baby demanding boob all the time and ds trying to swim in the dogs water bowl! currently habe him strapped in a high chair waving a beetroot on a fork!
little lady gained 8 ounces in first week as such a guzzler!
got to go as ds is red faced and screaming, he has beetroot all over new clothes, just hope it comes out!
will read the rest of this thread later.

having two is so different to havign one!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/10/2008 13:41

Colic unlikely to be fully soothed by feeding, though may at least provide a break from the screaming if they'll take it! Star - are you using infacol? Get some if not - it doesn't get absorbed into baby's body, so not like giving real medicine, but can make life easier if given just before a feed.

Lozza - are you using gripe water? Ok from one month, and good stuff.

I'm another one who operates on the principle 'if in doubt, feed!'

I do find that ds squirms at breast and won't latch if he still has some wind, so he gets put on shoulder for another back rub first.

He seems to like to have a good feed, be winded (poss winding part way through too), stay awake for a bit, and then have another little feed to settle him to sleep. Poss a dummy would do the latter, but we choose not to use them at the moment.

Above all just random thoughts whilst ds distracting me, but hope something there helps someone.

Bethoo - beetroot washes out surprisingly well (it's one of dd's absolute faves).

csws what does thrush look like?

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/10/2008 14:17

For you or ds star?
My babies haven't had it but the things to look out for are a white tongue (not just milk obv!) and red shiny bottom that won't heal.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 22/10/2008 14:18

This prob quite helpful.

OP posts:
star6 · 22/10/2008 14:20

both... I'm on antibiotics and i think it was you who said to look out for it - even before abx nipples were itchy but gp ignored it in light of the mastitis.
His bottom is always red... has been since he was born

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/10/2008 14:34

Yuk. Ds just projectile vomited several ounces of breast milk all over me and himself, requiring a full outfit change for us both. Amazing what a bit of wind can bring up with it!

OP posts:
loulou33 · 22/10/2008 14:50

Am seriously peed off. joe has been awake since 8am this morning and is now screaming cos he's sooo tired. He's been sick loads today and i'm on my third outfit. DH insists on taking him out in pram rather than sling so he's walking down the street and i can hear Joe screaming from here (swallowing more air so his wind will be worse than ever) DH has done nothing but be nasty about Joe all morning saying sarcastic things about him being such a joy etc which is making me more stressed. He can't handle it when Joe is sick and he gets all hysterical which makes me worse. MIL and FIL here as well and HV coming in an hour - great...oh the joys of parenting...remind me why i decided to do this again!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/10/2008 15:28

Because you remember that everything bad is just a phase .

Dh not good when ds (or dd for that matter) screams either. Must be a man thing.

OP posts:
star6 · 22/10/2008 15:46

Men are stupid. My dh hands ds over almost immediately if he cries then tells me to stop feeding him every time he cries!

pepperrabbit · 22/10/2008 17:31

Hello all
Gives post natal thread a twirl!
We've just been to the shops....
It's taken 2 hours, first, Jessica needed feeding IMMEDIATELY we parked so had to go to a cafe. Then she needed changing. As soon as DH took her off to change her, DS2 announced he'd done a poo as well.So when DH gets back we swap children and he takes DS2 off. Returning with no trousers for DS2 as clearly there'd been as "incident". I only had spare shorts so several of us are looking odd by now. DS1 then needs a wee (as we'd been there an hour by now ).
I managed to nip to Next to get DS1 some new trousers as he had put his knee through the pair he had on and was pretty desperate for new clothes anyway, Woolies for a birthday present and we had to come home.
I can't remember the last time I had that much fun, not.

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/10/2008 17:37

Sounds like a blast pepper .

OP posts:
star6 · 22/10/2008 17:48

I feel in over my head going out with just one... that was brave pepper!!!
I get the jessica rabbit joke now. I thought it was an expression, like "oh jessica rabbit!" from the way csws posted... ha ha! now it's funny!

sambrads · 22/10/2008 19:46

well i have woke up with the biggest spo ever !!! 3 months of clear skin and now its all come in 1 big spot

sorry for the rant

dont think dd has colic as she is quite good most of the day she just has a few hours a day were she does not want to sleep and cries a bit but not too bad
