Got antibiotics for mastitis and taking painkillers so feeling better now achey at times and red and sore but pills helping.

ronshar I wondered about those toners, not because I have any probs but just to tone up inside and make sure everything is where it should be as slightly concerned after delievering a 9 pounder

Phoebe has been smilling loads but Lydia did when she was only a day old and then everyday, I only have to look at Phoebe and say smile whilst giving her a huge grin and she smiles back at me, it is so lovely to see especially when you are sooooo tired and they are not and then they smile and it seems to make everything better

loulou Why do people have to think you want more just for the opposite sex! Ignore them like myjob said. I think it is nice to have the same as you already have all the stuff from first time, either way you win as nice having one of each or 2 the same, at least they are healthy and loved .

Off to bro in law for fireworks tonight then going to work tomorrow to show off Phoebe . My parents taking dd1 out saturday and having her overnight and DH away overnight in reading at a fancy dress so will be nice to sleep feed sleep with out anyone else about (other than dog)

star6 · 05/11/2008 17:19

Glad you got that sorted, jenwa mastitis hurts so much! Poor you!

those links really helpful csws thanks!
does anyone know - it says use milk defrosted in fridge within 12 hours. does that include the amount of time it took to defrost it? And how long does it take frozen milk to defrost in the refrigerator?

gp said no to oral nystan/nystatin for me.

Is everyone else's baby smiling? Quinlan does the random "smile" but dh and I know it's just wind as it's always when he needs to e winded or is feeding. He's 5 weeks tomorrow. Maybe we're just not giving him enough to smile about Should I be talking to him differently, I wonder?

star6 · 05/11/2008 18:59

myjob I think it was you who suggestednot using nipple cream. I tried it and they are dry but seem to be healing more than with cream... still using thrush cream just not lansinoh... mw says they will just crack more this way, but seem better than before

4andnotout · 05/11/2008 19:12

Hi everyone have only just clocked this thread
Well Tilly-Grace is doing well, bfing every 3-4 hours and she has put on 11oz in a week, so im reassured as have never bf any of the others. She will be 2 weeks old tommorow but i cant imagine her not being here now! Im surprised how well she has fitted in and that 4 seems no harder than 3

CantSleepWontSleep · 06/11/2008 08:34

star - anywhere from 10 to 30 mins per breast here. Dd was a sleepy feeder and would spend ages there because I wasn't sure if she was asleep or not. Now with ds I take him off if I'm not sure to gauge his reaction.

Smiles here, whilst lovely, are I think all wind induced. Definitely not something for the doctor star. Dd didn't smile until she was a good 6 weeks.

loulou - don't think my gp believes in stuff like reflux, unless the baby is a ftt. I'm not sure yet whether it's just caused by too much foremilk, or possibly by milk intolerance again, so I'm not going to see him until I've sussed that out. (Have been almost dairy free for a couple of days now)

We had a much better night though, even if ds has changed which positions he will sleep in, and won't sleep on his tummy by himself at the moment!

morning all, been a long night in the pepper household (or a short night depending on your viewpoint..)
quick winge. DH insists we take DD to cranial osteopath, so I make appt. and now, 20 minutes beofre we go to some random place in the middle of the countryside, the TomTom sat nav thinks I'm in the Vatican? Now, I know I haven't had much sleep, but I'm thinking there's something fundamentally wrong here......
pepper slopes off to eat chocolate in the hope this triggers "finding a satellite".

Lozza70 · 06/11/2008 18:05

Hi all. Had our 6 week check up yesterday and Sander is now 12lb 4oz! We have moved up a nappy size and clothes and it all seems to have gone so fast. Starting to get more smiles and I'm sure he is trying to crawl off his playmat. New photo on profile to prove it I'm also now able to drive again so the 2 of us can get further afield on our little trips out!

star6 · 06/11/2008 18:15

lozza - that facial expression is exactly the one the Quinlan does just before he's about to do a poo.... every time!
I'll post one now on my profile.. how funny!

MamaG has just beaten your 10 2 pistachio!

Lozza70 · 06/11/2008 20:04

star cute pics and I see what you mean about the poo face!

Sander was a good weight at birth even though he was delivered at 37 weeks, dread to think what weight he may have been had I gone over! Ouch at anything bigger than 10.2 pistachio Off to read what MamaG has been up to!

Lozza70 · 06/11/2008 20:09

10.9 Wow! Having to have a general was tough though.

star6 · 07/11/2008 08:30

10.9.... imagine carrying that around! I would be exhausted all the time! I know what you mean, myjob about being excited and nervous about weighing. I always worry that he won't have gained enough or something and then that will make me feel like I'm failing at breastfeeding. But luckily, he's growing

Does anyone know or have a link to a place where it says how much a baby should gain each week? Like, what's normal and healthy? I told MIL his weight a couple weeks ago... 7lbs something - which is a big difference from birth and she said he should be gaining more I think she's probably wrong.
I can't tell you how many times I hear from people (non bf people) when they see me feed him so often during his growth spurts.. "maybe you're just not producing enough milk.." I am SO SICK of that! Of course I'm producing enough milk!! I produce it when he wants it. It's not like he's sucking air out of my breasts!

star6 · 07/11/2008 08:35

myjob did naomi have low blood sugar at birth? When quinlan was born at under 6lbs they tested him right away and it was quite low. I was really worried that it was something that I had done (like not eating at all for a day and a half while in labour) and they said, "no, almost all babies born under 6lbs have low blood sugar" then proceeded to explain that's why they would supplement my breast feeding with forumla (20ml!!) every 3 hours and I was not to breastfeed him until after the formula... and only at that exact time. because of what I know now. sorry for the rant!

star6 · 07/11/2008 08:57

csws better night last night? A friend of mine (whose youngest is now 10), but I respect her opinion tremendously... told me yesterday that she was told to swaddle her (colicky) son tighter if he wasn't sleeping. She didn't believe it but brought him to this sleep clinic or something and they had him asleep within minutes! not sure if it will work, but worth a try?

Aubergenie · 07/11/2008 09:04

Morning ladies, Hope you're all well. Had an exhausting night last night as Stanley just wanted to feed for hours! He made up for it this morning with what I'm pretty sure was his first smile!! We've had a lot of windy faces that looked like he was smiling, but this was completely different.

Are you all being seen by the health visitor? I was discharged by the midwives a while ago and have been waiting tohear from the HV but so far, nothing. Annoying as I've got a few questions I'd like to ask.

I hope the mastitis is easing off now Jenwa. I remember my sister having it and it was awful.

jenwa · 07/11/2008 09:35

I have HV coming this am, was D/C yesterday from MW and HV called to arrange to come today!
Mastitis is alot better thank you, the antiobiotics are working and so is the pain relief

Thought we were in for a difficult night last night as DD was not settling between 6 and 10 and seemed to feed, feed feed!!! But then she slept through til 4 and then until 8 so that made up for last night she is dozing now but hopefully she wont keep feeding like yesterday, it appears when she is awake she just thinks she wants food . I have got DD1 here with me today aswell as she is out all day tomorrow so thought it only fair we spent some time together.

Lovely pics Lozza, he does look like he is about to crawl off!

He's 5 weeks tomorrow. To be fair, I carried on seeing the midwife until day 21 as they were worried about S's weight and my BP. then they signed me off. The midwife said the HV would contact me to make an appointment but that they had a backlog so I might have to wait a while. Not sure how long to leave it though or how to contact them.
