lol at your guilt at not giving him a bath. They aren't compulsory you know. Ds has only had 3 in his whole 2.5 week life.

Can't say what's normal, but I feel absolutely fine. I think pregnancy and birth quite suits me.

pistachio I've been feeling the same (amongst everything else) but I have to say that even if you can't feel the pelvic floor exercises as you do them they should help.
Just don't try any star jumps for a while
At the risk of TMI I was quite surprised the doctor actually needed a speculum last week at the hospital for my swabs but clearly everything was, erm, tighter than I thought!
And, to show there is a silver lining to the nasty infection cloud - I'm wearing my old jeans today!!!! Obviously I shan't be eating or sitting down though .

star6 · 28/10/2008 15:38

lol about the baths. I actually didn't know they didn't need to be bathed every day. Maybe we'll cut down... would certainly cut out some crying in the day

Trying to train him to sleep in his moses basket now... dh is a teacher, home for half term and our hearts are breaking! It's cuddly and lovely for US as well to have him sleep on our chests! But I know this is for the best. We will both get more sleep this way. He's been down for a record 10 minutes now... we pick him up when he cries then put him back down when he falls asleep, but moses basket (on rocking stand) is right next to us in the living room.

He sleeps SO much better on his stomach. Would be loads easier if we were allowed to put him down in cot on his stomach... but I know the SIDS risks.

csws that birth "suits" you

star6 · 28/10/2008 17:09

myjob - i think you asked on the other thread but quinlan is 7 lbs now!! He's 3wks+5days. I just found out today and so excited! This means the bf is definitely giving him what he needs! so proud!

trying cotton nappies but just have to change so much more often...

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/10/2008 18:55

Most cotton nappies gain absorbency after a few washes, but yes, unless you are changing a lot for poo, they will need more frequent changing than disposable.

Hiya,

i am back in the land of the living and have finally managed to eat without vomiting - hoorah...Joe asleep i think but had to give him soem formula tonight as he has been feeding all day and i can tell he's been getting very little - he guzzled 3 oz after having a big feed off me (i thought 3 oz wasn't very much and was secretly pleased he had so little iyswim)and promptly passed out. Hoping my milk is a bit more up to scratch tomorrow.

Star - well done with the moses basket - hope you manage to get him to settle in it. Joe does that a lot, particularly in the day. He'll be asleep on me and i'll put him down but he's awake 10 mins later. As soon as you pick him up,he's asleep again!!
Sleeping on tummy is ok Star - i have a baby moniotr which has a motion sensor. its a bit neurotic i know but means i can sleep knowing an alarm will go off if something awful happens.

Gpot to go, Joe awake, so much for my magic formula...

loulou - glad you are feeling better! Which monitor is that? I would like to get it. He's in there now, sleeping on his tummy ... I know... but he's sleeping more soundly than ever before in there... he's sleeping like he does on us! Would that monitor pick up if he stopped breathing?
Going to register his birth this morning. Quite an inconvenience actually, I'm not sure why they don't just do this at the hospital - we were there for long enough!

csws thanks - I just found the little inserts that you can put in to absorb more and the rest of hte paper linings to catch the poo. I'm going to try again! I think we will still use disposable when we go out (for now) until we're really comfortable with the cotton nappies... but I do LOVE putting them on him - so much more natural and soft on his skin!

myjob DH found the name. He's a medieval historian and his family heritage is Scottish (father) and Irish (mother). He says it's an old Scottish Gaelic name... meaning "small blonde warrior" . We also met this little girl a couple of years ago, named "Quin" in another country where we were living and we loved the name and she was so sweet (her mother was dh's boss). Her sweetness planted the seed for us having children of our own So it's meaningful in a few different ways for us. I did want Rowan for a while and was totally bummed when this was no longer a possibility... but am very happy with Quinlan, now - I think it's the most beautiful name in the world, just because it belongs to this precious baby
Sorry - I STILL can't get over this amazing feeling of love.... I never ever realized how powerful a mother's love for her child is until he was born. It's absolutely amazing!!!

loulou33 · 29/10/2008 09:28

Star - its called Angelcare Monitor (£70 i think) and yes it picks up if they stop breathing. It has a very sensitive pad that you put under the mattress of crib or cot (even works through a really thick cot matress). When Joe was in neonatal all the prem babies were on their tummies and the nurses all said it was standard to do this as it helps them breathe and not aspirate vomit etc. These babies then go home having learnt only to sleep on their tummies even though prem babies are at greater risk of sids (work that one out!!) My best friends twins both slept on their tummies having been in neonatal and she could never get them onto their backs - their fine btw.

Off for 6 week check today, joe's arse is like a beetroot today so will get gp to look at it. He didn't fall asleep til midnight last night but slept til 8am this morning. he was wide awake looking around him all evening whilst i tried not to look at him and laugh at him staring and cooing at the lights in our lounge

loulou33 · 29/10/2008 09:30

there's a thirty pound second hand on eon amazon btw star

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/10/2008 09:40

We're registering ds today too Star .
Are you familiar with this song star? It's what I always end up singing in my head when I am reminded of your ds' name.

Just bought it! Thanks!!!

star6 · 29/10/2008 09:45

wow, impulse buy - but £30 instead of £70 is quite a bargain! And I love the idea of something keeping track of his breathing. Thank you so much, loulou!

ronshar · 29/10/2008 10:12

Star have you tried to swaddle Quinlan. He may just need the extra security and warmth? My MIL was here last night and I was bitching about the inabilty of my child to sleep for long and she swaddled him in his blanket and the little monkey went straight to sleep
Also William loves being put on his side with blankets tucked in quite tight. Might be worth a try.

I realised today that I seem to be woken just before 3am every night and then have to sit with a fractious boy until about 5.30am. That is the time he was born and the time we eventually put him down to sleep in the hospital!!! Is this conected? Or just coincidence?

I should be asleep but I really wanted to catch up with everyone here. It is nice to know that I am not spiralling into darkness alone lots of us are apparently going crazy.

I was informed by DH that William is smelly and do I wash him enough! I told him to bugger off. Like I dont have enough to do everyday, add in the 30 mins of screaming a bath entails I can do without it. Poor boy he is sick constantly so he may well be a bit on the stinky side. I am torn between my desire not to have the heating on high, saving water and my poor smelly baby. What do I do???

nicewarmslippers · 29/10/2008 10:13

Can I join! I am desperate to meet some folk with babies a similar age (even just in ms world). As I need to hear from people with a realistic idea of what they are like at this age.

Mine is 2 weeks old (and wonderful in every way!). I need to meet mums who can reassure me that they too need to sleep in the day. My mil, sil and friend all claim that they never needed to sleep in the day (surely they have forgotten). Yesterday I thought I was going to start hallucinating if I didn't get some sleep and ended up being rude to mil.

I am sure this is normal, he is bf and feeds ALOT and is awake for 2 hours after most night feeds.

I can't imagine how I will cope when the older one (aged 2) stops nursary next week (we can't afford it while I'm off work and also it seems wrong sending her off all day when I'm not working).

Great to meet you all.

And congratulations. Its a fantasatic feeling! despite my grounching about sleep

pistacio

I posted about this just last week on the general health thread (mine is 2 1/2 weeks old). I felt like things would fall out and couldn't stop weeing once I'd started. Its allready feeling much better, hope you are too. I felt much worse after looking at it in a mirror so haven't looked since. Also I am very careful to clench musels when i stand up especially if holding baby and tense them when walking too.

from talking to poople including mw its normal to feel like this, just do pelvic floors and after 4 or 6 weeks it should be OK

good luck
