Thanks Needahand. I have some porridge oats that aren't going to get eaten (as I don't like porridge) so I might give it a whirl.

Why am I still on here? It's 11pm? Must go to bed. NOW.

Night all.

debinaustria · 22/10/2008 06:05

Alli - Peter looks gorgeous in that snowsuit

Aberdeen - interesting to hear what you said about going back to Toronto, especially after we have decided that we want to come back to the UK! No formula top up here but Ethan's waking in the night still after weeks of sleeping through. Last night he also managed to be sick all over me in bed.

Hedgehog - yes, I've tried the hints thing ans you'd think after being together for 20 years that dh would just know all the things I'd love but no!

Hedgehog - 23 months between ds1 and ds2, hard work at the beginning but lovely now

Question - do your lo's have cold hands in the night? I wonder whether that's waking Ethan up? I could have squealed when he put his little hands on me at 4 this morning.

alipalli · 22/10/2008 08:29

deb re cold hands, exactly the same here. It was 18 degrees in his room last night which is the SIDS recommendation, but it feels v cold to me when I feed him. I am sleeping under two duvets at the moment too. Poor Peter!

fungle · 22/10/2008 08:32

Morning, Deb, Isla has hands like ice in the middle of the night, I also have wondered if this is something that wakes them.
Rolf, I went to school in south Liverpool, your dad may have taught me. My brother lives up the coast from the city center, think I know where you mean!
Isla has a stinkin cold, caught from me, so terrible night here, she woke 10 to feed, 12 to cough and sneeze and wriggle until 1.30, feed at 2, wake coughing etc at 4, in bed with me, really struggling with breathing, gave calpol at 4.15, sleep till 6.30. Phew, what a night. Am going to see a nursery this morning, could do without it really. Am having a bit of a panic re childcare though. Had 2 seperate childminders teed up, one has had to drop out though Not due back at work for 5 months, but everywhere seems very booked up

PiggyPenguin · 22/10/2008 10:05

About the ezcema, yes ds1 does have it really badly and we did spend a couple of years as outpatients with the hospital because it got so bad. Ask me anything you like about it, but I would reccommend a few things that helped us to anyone:

  1. House dustmites are considered one of the main causes for most peoples ezcema and ds is very allergic. We removed our carpets and changed the sofas to leather (they live in carpets and soft furnishings) and ds's ezcema improved so much. His got much worse after he started crawling and was in contact with the carpet etc and this really helped.
  1. A good skincare regime is really important. The oats in the bath do help but are really messy - there is an oats based skincare range called Aveeno. It is available from Boots and they do bath emollient, skincream and lotions. It is excellent.
  1. Make sure you get it checked out by the doc. if it gets bad. You may need a mild steroid cream and it is better to use a little sooner than a lot later. Also, ezcema gets infected really easily and can turn into impetigo. You do not want this!
  1. Try and be referred to a consultant before it gets too bad. I think we waited too long and then it was suddenly awful. Also, be aware of the creams they offer you. Ds used one that has been linked to skin cancer, it worked really well but we were terrified the whole time we used it.

OK, going to stop now before I scare anyone, but really, do feel free to ask me if you have any questions.

PiggyPenguin · 22/10/2008 10:09

Oh and Deb, about the birthday present. For my birthday I got a digital photo frame and I love it! I have put about 80 images on it, my favourite photos since ds1 was born 7 years ago and it scrolls through them, changing every few seconds. I get to see the kids grow and change through my fabvourite photos and it is really excellent. They aren't cheap though.

Parofleurmapu · 22/10/2008 11:08

quick post as off to beach for a walk before you all get jealous Its cloudy here today and not too warm.

Out of all toys Fleur has she is really happy just playing with a bottle with chickpeas in at the moment!!!

Glad its not just me with sling comments!

winegums - glad you found B a diagnosis and all well now

Rolf -

HH79- i also have lost weight so others can gang up on both of us!!

debs - im hitting the big 30 in april!!

AH- nice to hear from you, iwth nedahand i didnt find formula made any difference and found Fleur lasted longer on BM Now doing mainly FF cause of earlier probs but i would say give it a go it might work for fraser

Love the pramsuit ali, wheres the cheapest place to get one as Fleur will only need one for the 2 wks at xmas not really necessary here although they do sell them but stuff is much cheaper in UK

fungle oh no! fleur just got over cold and we are just about settling back at night Hang on in there and hugs i know wht its like

Parofleurmapu · 22/10/2008 11:10

oops must revise posts , rolf im sure you are a fab mum we all feel like this sometimes hope teacher and ds sort out soon

needahand · 22/10/2008 11:54

sybil which cream was that? DD also has eczema and uses aveno, but when it gets infected they give her fucidin and an other one (can't remember the name).

Debs SJ gets really cold hands as well and sometimes it is under 17 in his room (for some reason it is the coldest in the house and doesn't keep the heat)

PiggyPenguin · 22/10/2008 12:03

Fucidin is fine, we have used that for infections too. No the creams you need to be aware of are those which contain pimecrolimus or tacrolimus, they are called Elidel and Protopic. They are under a health warning in the States because of links to skin cancer but aren't considered such a risk over here yet. You do have to be very careful with them, and make sure the child has suntan lotion on every day - even cloudy days. They are very effective though where steroid creams have failed, which is the case we had.

Amberc · 22/10/2008 12:09

Talking of sleep - does anyone actually feel ill with the lack of sleep? I do, it's horrific - I saw every hour last night except the 2am hour.

My chair arrived. I put Luke in it and he cried. I think he is testing me to see how far he can push it before I take him back to the hospital.

PiggyPenguin · 22/10/2008 12:12

At least you can threaten to take him back to the hospital. Jamie was born in the kitchen, it doesn't have quite the same threat level!

Rolf · 22/10/2008 12:12

Deb DD2 gets v cold hands, too. I don't put mitts on her as she likes to suck her fingers but I wonder if it wakes her up. She feels freezing when she wakes in the night.

Thanks for the comforting comments .

Interesting to read about eczema. DS1 gets it, although not as badly as some of the poor little things I'm reding about. Has anyone tried homeopathy? I've read that it has good results.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 22/10/2008 12:22

Those of you with boys and girls, were boys more clingy then girls or is i just S, struggling slightly to do things now DH is starting to do his winter job. S just won't sleep during the day and is only happy when has full attention and it is draining.

goingfor3 · 22/10/2008 12:27

This thread has moved on quickley in the last couple of days!

I've added a new pic of DS, b7w pics look really good!

Amber I often go to bed feeling sick due to lack of sleep and being so busy with three during the day. Hope you feel better soon.

DS wakes up freezing if he sleeps in his cot which is probably why he's so much happier in bed with me and dp.

needahand · 22/10/2008 12:28

sybil thanks for the clarification

five I hope not as DD is soooo clingy, I hope S won't be

amber yep I too fill ill with lack of sleep. The otherday, I was so unwell I actually thought I had food poisoning.

goingfor3 · 22/10/2008 12:29

FiveGM DD2 is very cligny and always has been whereas dd1 isn't. DS likes to have attention most of the time but he is used to having it from the girls.

LauraT · 22/10/2008 13:19

argh, so many posts, no time to catch up!

have a meeting about going part time this afternoon, so will try and catch up later... I'm still here though!

Katyjo and Whinegums see you tomorrow

Amberc · 22/10/2008 13:26

Just thinking actually of when kids are older and that having them close together will help keep them occupied whereas having one on their own means that they will want to be played with (by you) all day long! God how selfish am I?!!! ust finding this sle3epless thing so tough and the constant attention Luke needs is massively draining I totally agree. Had decided to put off having another one for a while as unlike some of the others I can't bear the thought of doing this all again for a long time - saying that tick tock tick tock.

ThePenguinProject · 22/10/2008 14:27

Catching up from Saturday! And this thread has really picked up again . Been away in Wales and had a fantastic time. Needed the break I think.

Essie - You Lin&Leo temptress you. What colour bag did you get? When are you back in London?

Deb - Re: squirty boobs, I think I've put DH off Playboy or similar for life, I spent an hour hand expressing aka milking overfull boobs in the hotel. I kept squirting him, the bed, the wall, everything in fact!

Amber & Paro - at your LO's practically feeding themselves! Ryder still doesn't seem to realise that if he removes himself from my boob, the milk stops!

Weaning - I'm still a bit head in sand over here, but am finding all your comments really helpful. Ryder has shown no real interest yet (4 months tomorrow) and I probably won't bother until he does or until he reaches 5 months, whichever is sooner.

HH - I don't mean to dismiss your concerns, but if it's only on his chin, could Issac have dribble rash? A lot of local babies seem to have it. Only solution seems to be a barrier cream and lots of bibs. Ryder's doesn't get sore, but is filthy. The wetness attracts all the fluff within a ten mile radius...

Deb - Love the FC policy for under ones... Ryder will be getting his own room for Xmas. Althought if we have anymore nights like last night, it might be sooner than that!

Ali - Peter looks wonderful in that pramsuit.

Deb - Ryder's hands were so cold I actually did squeal when feeding and woke DH up last night. Like Ali, room temperature as per recomendations, etc, but it does seem really cold to me. I did try scratch mitts when I put him down in the cot once, but he just sucks them which worries me. I think I may start using them for middle of the night feeding only, for my sake rather than his! (It'll help with the pain of scratched/grabbed flesh too).

Amber - Your post re: taking Luke back to the hospital made me LOL. Sooooo glad you'd forgotten about meeting today too. We really do need to try and arrange a proper meet up though, with as many of the London Ladies (and anyone else in London for Xmas shopping maybe....) as possible! Any news re: the job?

Plus Emma has decided that she likes lots of attention in the evenings so definitely no rest for me.....Am trying to catch up with all your posts but good luck to you all if you don't hear from me soon....

hedgehog1979 · 22/10/2008 15:30

Thanks for all the exczema tips, am going to try porrridge oats in the bath tonight (in the foot of a pair of tights) as I use them in my bath too for lovely soft skin.

paro Can get pramsuits/all in ones cheap in peacocks. Isaacs was £6 and has lovely ears, washes really well too, although you might need to go a size bigger

Isaac has the cold hands too, but HV said not to worry if core was ok temp. It is a shock when he grabs hold of things in the morning but I can deal with it. More of a shock for DH when he goes into get him in the morning.

Looking at ISaac last night in the bath, it isn't just on his chin he has some on the back of his knees as well. Talked to my mum and she said that we all had it as babies as well so I must have grown out of it.

pleasechange · 22/10/2008 15:32

ali the pic is lovely - in fact I've now just been out to buy one!

paro I got my pramsuit in Dunnes and is was only £8. It was much nicer than the ones I saw in tkmaxx and they were more expensive. Didn't want to pay too much as he's not going to be wearing it much

amber I really do sympathise on the lack of sleep. My whole body aches all night and I feel like an old woman. I felt so tired this morning that I thought I was going to be sick. A is waking now more than ever and I've no idea why, as he doesn't seem to be hungry apart from 2 feeds. I don't understand why he is waking every hour - he just fidgets the whole time

ThePenguinProject · 22/10/2008 15:38

Wow, the baby weaning threads are terrifying....
