Thanks all by the way for poo tales!!! And debs ill have a look at ELC

Sponge i started Fleur at 18 weeks because she was

a)feeding 9 times a day ok not always huge amounts but far more added up as a total then the supposedly recommend b)paed recommended it c)she showed real interest in food d)nicked a banana out of my hand (fair play i was being silly with it in her face but she put it in mouth and loved it)

Tongue thrust reflex is when you put something in their mouth and they dont spit it back out I think!!

I felt ok weaning Fleur when i did til i started reading all the blurb thats out there but it differs soooo much i cant fathom how you can always be right. In the end ive decided Fleur is a really happy baby, she is still gaining weight, ok not as much as before maybe but paed is happy. She loves her purees and i personally think that its helped her settle at night and settle with her feeds so im sticking with it and just avoiding any weaning threads etc I really cant understand how guidelines can change so much and differ in so many countries In italy they recommend vegetable broth from 12 weeks!!!

If you feel the time is right go for it.

katyjo · 20/10/2008 08:22

Debs Ds is 2 and a half, so he isn't too bad at all, if I keep reminding him he rarely has an accident with wees, but after he did his first poo in the potty the last 3 have been in his pants or on the floor..yuck! Hoping he gets it soon!

sponge I weaned ds at about 18weeks, and then I started panicking when I read a thread on here, was convinced he was going to become asthmatic or something. He seems fine and my mum weaned all of us at 6 weeks and we are still here! Mia is really not a hungry baby, she will be 5 months on fri and still happy on milk, weaning is a PITA and I will wait until 6 months if she is happy.

whinegums I haven't had Mia weighed since she was 12 weeks. See you on thursday outside debenhams, at what time?

Amberc · 20/10/2008 09:39

Weaning - after all the talk about should I or shouldn't I on here and other threads I have decied to go for the halfway point of 20 weeks so two weeks to go. Just getting everything I need together in readiness and will start off for a week on just baby rice I think. The tongue thrust reflex is when babies can't push food to the back of their mouths to swallow and they thrust their tongues out basically expelling anything in their mouths. They grow out of it but you can't wean them until they have stopped doing it.

Luke is suddenly on 240 ml a feed and finishes the lot in one go. He gets very excited when he sees a bottle and grabs it and puts it in his own mouth now (after a few attempts! I put a pillow under the bottle this morning and lay him down and he drank half of it himself. I have tried one of those cups with handles but he did n't know what to do with it!

Parofleurmapu · 20/10/2008 10:33

Morning! amber- Fleur does that with a bottle too she gets dead excited and tries to grab it out of hands!!! I bought some handles that go on the avent bottles and some sippy teats for her to have with her water and at first she didnt get it but after a few weeks she now can more or less do it herself with a bit of help

Oh and she woke up again at 2am last night but after 3 times she did go back again til 5.45am I thought of you all whilst I was up!!!

Katyo - good luck with potty day today

pleasechange · 20/10/2008 11:58

Hi all
So A went into his cotbed last night - started off with him cooing at his mobile and I thought 'isn't this going well, we should have done it weeks ago'. Anyway, no long after, the screaming started. Loudly, for over an hour. Not even a dummy or cuddle would soothe him. The screaming went on so long that I think the neighbour was banging around to show his annoyance. Well eventually A cried himself to sleep and after that things weren't too bad. I hope tonight is better!

Went to a baby group this morning. Does anyone else find them hard work? A couple of weeks I have managed to sit beside someone who was nice and chatty, but sometimes they're so cliquey and even when I try to join in it feels a bit like people can't always be bothered. And A doesn't have a great time compared to at home where I can play with him properly.

whinegums good to see you back. Re. weighing, I've stopped bothering now!

hedgehog1979 · 20/10/2008 13:35

whinegums - have you stopped having B weighed
I feel like I should be going as my dm likes updates so make an effort to go about every 4 weeks 9and pick up a repeat pescription at the same time!!

Sponge did you get advice from Lollipop? I have just applied to them to become a nappy advisor as I have - currently- 7 different types/brands and love the idea of helping other people out with their choices.

re Weaning, i think some of the other signs are that they can sit unsupported. Isaac is almost there, can sit with a hold of one of my fingers. But I still sticking my head in the sand and waiting for as near 6 months as poss.

deb at man making you move while BF, when Isaac was about 6 weeks we went down to Brighton on the train and on the way back I managed to clear a carriage by BF (think I told this before). Was it a national express (used to be GNER) train? We are off to Newcastle in a couple of weeks by train and I am trying to explain to DH that I will prob need the window seat for feeding, normally go for aisle for legroom, was there enough space to feed? Did it have a table or was it one of the airline style ones. Any tips? I am a pro on the commuter type trains we have here but am a bit worried about the more long distance ones as will need to fold pushchair etc

allnew I go to my local NCT bumps, babes and tiddleypeeps and meet some of the mums from my NCT antenatal group. But even if none of them are there I find everyone really friendly, It is set out over three rooms - Baby Room, Inbetweeners and Crawlers/Toddlers. I do try and make an effort to talk to newbies as well as I remember how daunted I was the first time we went even though DH was there as well

Right - need to practice with Travel cot as we are off to Newcastle for a wedding in a couple of days (driving this time) and as the TC is my parents have never actually used it wish me luck

Essie3 · 20/10/2008 15:56

hedgehog I just looked into being a nappy advisor too! I looked at Babykind. I've decided against it because I'm going back to work after Christmas, and I'll want to be spending my spare time with Iestyn, not selling nappies! But I'm giving talks to the postnatal clubs here about real nappies and advertising the pop-ins! With Iestyn as my model. (BTW, look at my profile - Real nappy baby!)

Weaning - still not considering it (ever! ) here. But I have bought an Annabel Caramel (as we call her here) book. Was that the recommended one - I vaguely remember 5GoMad mentioning it? Am I right?

Also, would anyone else find it useful to have a list of names, babies, and dob's on this thread? As a reminder? Only I was trying to work out how old Paro's Fleur is. Older than Iestyn, I think, but by how much? Amber and Sponge have babies a day older than Iestyn, and I think Alipalli's Peter is a day younger? (Paro, I was only wondering about Fleur because of the weaning etc - in case you were concerned at me singling her out!)

OP posts:
Essie3 · 20/10/2008 15:57

Actually, a refinement to that idea - how about a list with all children if you have more than one? eg. 5GoMad, UDC, useful people to know because they have other children.

Would anyone else find this useful?

OP posts:
Amberc · 20/10/2008 16:01

Yup good idea Essie - maybe we should do them in alphabetical order? PS every baby of this age is doing the PITA night thing - non MN mums too are having the same trouble so I guess nowt to do with weaning and more to do with weird phase.

Whinegums - I haven't had DD2 weighed since the midwife weighed her . She's growing, she's happy...

Allnew - I'm north Liverpool. Nice to know there's a few north-westerners on here . I have had the same experience at playgroups. I went to them with the boys and when i had DD1 thought that I'd had my fill of drinking crap tea on tiny chairs! I've made more of an effort with DD2 but only manage 1 a week.

libralady · 20/10/2008 19:05

I'll catch up in a mo with all the goings on but just wanted to say it's a year today since I discovered I was pregnant with Luke

Fab, thanks all, it's a useful reference. (Shame you can't 'save' things like this. Maybe the next person to start a thread should copy and paste it as the first post?)
5GoMad singling you out...love your daughter's names. Gorgeous combination.

Dinner's ready!

Libra - a year today I was at a birthday party and the parents were trying to get me to have a drink(alcoholic) - they were the 1st people I told locally. It was their daughters party today and this time round I have a lovely baby boy !!

Hedgehog - no idea which train it was. On the way from London to Newcastle direction the train was empty(Sunday afternoon) and there was lots of room to bfeed at the table but on the train back it was packed(sun afternoon but going to London this time) and there wasn't enough room really at the seats with the table, plus the people opposite get an eyeful. If you sit at the window sometimes baby's head gets bashed on the window , if you sit in the aisle seat baby's head can get knocked by people, cases pushing past - so please book seats if possible, I would choose airline seats and keep swapping with your dh to avoid baby head bashing.

Also I was v impressed to find on one smaller train there were baby changing facilities, however when I used them I changed my mind, the table pulled out over the toilet which is fair enough in a small space but it sloped down so badly that it was a good job I had Stefan with me to keep a hold on Ethan as he kept sliding down the table - there was no strap and just where baby's head was there were 2 big bolts so thank god he didn't turn his head. If I had seen the guard I would have complained.

Busy day here, painting this morning, took big boys to a party this afternoon and dh, Ethan and I went to Ikea - I did buy 2 bibs, and some bowls so I am thinking about weaning at some point!!Off to start laying flooring with dh, hope your lo's sleep OK, Ethan was awake for a feed again at 4.00 last night.,

FiveGoMadInDorset · 20/10/2008 20:25

OK catch up time.

Thank you Essie, Eleanor is my mothers name and Mary is the family name which we all have.

I don't use real nappies, tried with DD but couldn't keep up with B&B washing and nappy washing, use Boots nature ones for Seb which are quite good.

It was his baptism on Saturday and we are slowly cathing up on sleep and letting livers recoup. Ended up feeding 25 on Friday night, MIL was awful as always but hey ho, I did threaten DH that I would stab him in the heart if she didn't back off while I was putting pudding out.

I got to bed at 1.30, DH at 2.30, Seb up at 6.

Baptism was beautiful a georgeous day, the ceremony was lovely and he was very well behaved. Howver we are going to have to get a bigger safe as he got given so much silver .

Ended up in pub and then me and his godmother took DC's home when he woke up and then the babysitter turned up, got to bed 1.30 again, DS up at 6.

Yesterday was lovely and a friend had opened his Bistro privately and did roast beef, for about 25 of us before everyone went there spearate ways.

So tired today, Seb's reflux seems to be getting worse so will take hime to get weighed tomorrow and see what his weight gain is like, if he has dropped again I will take him to the doctors.

Thank you for getting through the post.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 20/10/2008 20:27

Oh and BIL told DH that he thinks they were left £30k each in their great Aunts will. FIL was executor but hasn't said anything and is funding his daughter so DH will be doing some investigating because that would mean we could finally finish doing up our side of the house in one.
