Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SalLikesCoffee · 06/10/2008 22:30

Men are such babies. All fine and well for us to take it for year and years and get fat and irritated, but for them it's obviously so hard (excuse the extremely bad pun).

chipmonkey · 06/10/2008 23:45

Peachy, just wanted to say that ds3 refused utterly to take a bottle and this was at 5 months ( 3 months corrected as he was prem) Up to that he'd happily take a bottle. Now, he's 3 and not ASD, just really, really stubborn!

VictorianSqualor · 07/10/2008 07:57

Hmmm.
Alex is determined to make me look a fool.
How many times have I typed 'Don't feed your baby mush to get more sleep, it doesn't work anyway'?? !00?1000?10000?
Last night after reading all this about the ellas pouch I pottered round to tesco to get some stuff and they had a display with ellas pouch stuff so I thought hmm, that's odd, it's like a sign, wonder if he likes it. Gave him about a third of a pouch after some dinner and what did he do last night?
Slept from 8-8(well, I just woke him up ) with only one waking at about 1am. In fact he woke about ten and went straight back to sleep.
Little bleeder.
Prachy alex is trying to crawl too, he gets into crawling position and the his legs slide from underneath him

CanI just ask as I am VERY confused now - is it 24 weeks or 26 weeks for weaning? And what difference does the 2 weeks make? Do i start her with purees at 24 weeks and then move onto BLW at 26 weeks or what? Any help appreciated!

Took Gigi for her 1st swimming lesson yesterday and it was so sweet seeing all the little babies in their swim togs! She seemed to enjoy it which is good, and it really knackered her out - she had a lovely long sleep when we got home! So - more exercise for Gigi!!

A friend of ours who is moving back to NZ just gave us a whole load of those Ella's pouch things. She swore by them for days she didn't have home made to hand.

I am soooo tired. Gigi has taken to waking at 4am and singing like a lark for 2 hours every morning. A very loud lark. You can hear her loud and clear from the other room. I'm not sure why she is waking so much earlier - she used to wake earliest at 8am!!

VictorianSqualor · 07/10/2008 09:34

It's 26 weeks, basically the gut is ready somewhere between 17 and 26 weeks so the longer you wait the less risk, however if you do BLW food play is encouraged before 26weeks and you can base your weaning round that.
After 26weeks pureeing is not necessary but can be used if you wish.
I gave Alex that ella's pouch as a kind of pudding after his proper food.

Bas isn't exactly crawling; can get anywhere he wants in reverse LOL and wrggle forwards- almost tre though. he's been rolling since 3 months but shows no indication of sitting at all.

TBH I'm not concerned about that- ds3 was very delayed and ds1 extremely advanced so would much rather he followed this route as per ds2 (the NT one).

Ok will check in later. Off to take on the entire LEA- mission for the week. You may well see the spraks from there LOL.....

VictorianSqualor · 07/10/2008 09:48

That's the same as Alex Peachy, can sit in his highchair etc but not by himself and hasn't tried at all, he pulls himself up but much prefers the crab to the buddha

OP posts:
Peachy · 07/10/2008 09:52

Yep that sunds right VS

Mind Bas would be the iNdian Buddha not the Chinese one

VictorianSqualor · 07/10/2008 09:57

I would get it Peachy!
I have buddha ornaments

Peachy · 07/10/2008 10:00

Hurrah! LOL

I ave probems i RL as people think I am dour and humouress; the relaity is that close frends / dh who 'get' my SOH say i'm really funny but my soh is so dry if you're not on the same wavelength you're stuffed!

MommyHasaHeadache · 07/10/2008 10:11

LOL I also got it Peachy - and for what it's worth - i do find you very humerous!

TheShipsCat · 07/10/2008 10:21

Hi girls,
We seem to have fallen back into the more-than-once-a-night group. . I am now knackered again! It must be a growth spurt...
I had a tedious weekend of painting and decorating. It was my birthday on Sunday, and it rained all day, went for a bad lunch out, miles away, while the dds both screamed. Lovely.

Has anyone stopped BFing yet? How do you do it? Last time I stopped overnight, which turned out to be v painful and I got mastitis, so this time I want to phase it out gradually, but I am not sure how long it will take. I've got to stop by November 1 when I go away...any suggestions?

I can't believe all the babies are eating now - we are so far behind - its another month at least before we're ready!

TheShipsCat · 07/10/2008 10:24

BTW, Peachy, so sorry to hear of your worries about Bas. I know you know a lot more about this than me, but when dd1 had eggs, both through BM and for real, she would scream and scream and scream and was a nightmare, so maybe its is an allergy, not ASD? Fingers crossed for you...I hope the osteopath helped.

SuzeM · 07/10/2008 10:26

Belated happy birthday, TSC.

Does anyone else have a Tripp Trapp? Should I wait until E can sit up before she uses it or just put her in it for a few minutes every day so she gets used to it?

SalLikesCoffee · 07/10/2008 10:47

VS. Hehehe, the little traitor! However, sleeping through worth it, so great news really. He probably felt this "going to bed without dessert" nonsense had to stop.

Another belated happy birthday, TSC.

Re stopping breastfeeding (but I did mix feed for a while) - I just switched more bf's with formula and stopped expressing, so my body started making less and less. However, and I'm not sure how you would get around this if you still wanted to bf for a while (I'd love to know for future, actually) - when I had less milk, R got all fussy and annoyed because it was "too much trouble"!

TheShipsCat · 07/10/2008 10:54

How long did it take, Sal?

Thanks for happy birthdays

SalLikesCoffee · 07/10/2008 10:59

About a month, but I'm sure it's doable quicker. Also, if you do express (say if you just want to remove milk and not so fussed on the amount), don't remove everything - only enough to feel comfortable.

SalLikesCoffee · 07/10/2008 11:04

Saw this link re comfort during weaning on Kellymom.

TheShipsCat · 07/10/2008 11:16

Thanks!

SalLikesCoffee · 07/10/2008 11:20

Pleasure.

MommyhasaH - what website do you normally use for accommodation in SA? I'm looking for something for one night near Franschoek, will browse a bit this morning but thought it's worth checking with you as well.

MommyHasaHeadache · 07/10/2008 11:21

Happy belated Birthday TSC!

My FIL is getting us the Tripp Trapp as part of Gigi's Christmas pressie - we are very lucky he is paying for it as they are so expensive! But I do understand the cost and think they really look worth it! We have gone for the Cherry one with the Art Stripe cushions and the red baby set and red harness. Can't wait for it to come although I know she won't be able to sit in it properly yet. Will use the Bumbo until then.

BTW Suze - great pics of your little one! (And you!)

MommyHasaHeadache · 07/10/2008 11:25

Sal - sorry x posts.

I normally use www.ownersdirect.co.uk but I see they don't have any properties in Franschoek, but do have other properties in the Cape if that helps? Otherwise I generally just do a search on Google. The properties we are staying in when we go to SA are in Drakensburg and Natal Coast, and the sites I used only deal with those areas, so no help there. Let me know if you come up with anything!

chipmonkey · 07/10/2008 11:35

Harry said Mama!

{ ok it's probably just baby babble but he did say it!)

SalLikesCoffee · 07/10/2008 11:41

Thanks MHH. Dh's sister lives in Cape Town itself and we're already staying there for 2 days, but I want to stay somewhere on our own too and CT itself for a hotel might be a bit obvious. Love them btw, but being on our own for a day or two should be nice.

Chipmonkey!!! No, he said it! Stick to the story!

KnitterInTheNW · 07/10/2008 12:29

VS, I have a question, which I am asking in a calm and not shouty manner...

Please could you explain the difference between Alex having some pureed fruit for his dessert yesterday, and George having some baby rice mixed with EBM at the same age a few weeks ago? You made it very clear how strongly you feel about not weaning before 26 weeks and made me feel bad about what I'd done.
