Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
scorpio1 · 18/10/2008 11:57

Am happy to ignore her so she self settles, so i guess the real question is

Is 12 hours too long to not BF?

Solids at 530pm, BF at 630, down by 7 most nights.

scorpio1 · 18/10/2008 12:30

Thankyou Peachy!!!

DonDons · 18/10/2008 13:26

Scorpio - Amelie sleeps 12 hours and has done for about 12 weeks - I still have no periods!

Peachy · 18/10/2008 13:39

glad it arrived scorpio

have just decided to allow dh to let mil go, that's it with her I think. dhh's bil will be around tonight (in carnival crowd) and dh and I are avoiding. dont want to say what I have to say iykwim.

I want that babysitter!!! at sal

SalLikesCoffee · 18/10/2008 16:31

Hi everyone! Wow, what a lovely day today.

We had the first aid training this morning, and I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. We all practiced on these dolls where you would give them mouth-to-mouth and see their chests raising, and then dealing with all the choking etc emergencies too. NHS, today I think you're amazing.

Btw, MommyHasaHeadache does amazing chocolate cakes... Hmm, I'm looking at another piece sitting next to me as I type!

Have to dash to rescue poor dh from an overtired R.

LadyBee · 18/10/2008 16:56

The training is good isn't it Sal, so glad you managed to organise it - I've been spreading the word, my friend in North London is going to try to set one up with her NCT crowd too.

Scorpio, I've been thinking about the same thing...B has been waking more often recently, but because he's been ill I've been going in to him. He still has a nasty cough, so I won't start ignoring yet, but I do think I'm going to have do a period of letting him settle himself soon. He is waking at around 1/2 and then again at 5 at the moment - although actually tonight he woke at 1 and 2, but not at 5
The thing is I don't really feel that confident about his eating at the moment, whereas when he was only BFing I felt fairly sure he was getting everything he needed, now that he's having solids too, I never really know whether he's had enough milk or whatever to be happy to sleep through the night IYKWIM

That's no help at all is it

Denny185 · 18/10/2008 18:08

Is she waking coz of teeth? DD2 did a couple of nights b4 teeth, no feed (mean mummy) just teething powder and water. Once stopped night feeds I tend not to go back but everyone is diff, I suppose u have to decide if seeking comfort or truely hungry.

scorpio1 · 18/10/2008 18:11

No teething yet, no.

I am unsure because she is always asleep by 7pm - so if she wakes at 3ish (which she has been), that has been 8 hours without anything. Surely 12 hours is too long?

Before she would go 10-7 without anything, but now time has shifted it's hard for me to judge.

scorpio1 · 18/10/2008 18:12

I do not want to get into comfort thing.

Thinking so much of stopping - hell, i have done 6 months.

SalLikesCoffee · 18/10/2008 18:13

Sorry, no advice, we've always been solidly into the various-times-a-night club!

SalLikesCoffee · 18/10/2008 19:11

Hi everyone. Someone (Buckets) asked info re the venue we used at the previous two meetups, which they're considering for theirs. Here if anyone wants to add

LadyBee · 18/10/2008 20:23

you do sound a bit fed up, Scorpio - well, the only way to find out if your baby can do something is to give them the opportunity to do it, right?
If she's well and you feel that she's consumed enough during the day, why not try the offering water thing instead? That way you can reassure yourself that you won't be dehydrating your baby if she really does need something, and if it's comfort or a habit, the water might persuade her not to bother

scorpio1 · 18/10/2008 20:26

think im just tired today and moaning. Mimi wont accept a bottle at the mo...i'm going to see HV on weds (v good) for a RL chat..easier i think!

scorpio1 · 18/10/2008 20:27

Thankyou for help

LadyBee · 18/10/2008 20:27

I've posted re the venue Sal....so...is it pointless to ask whether a meet-up before Christmas would be possible? I seem to recall lots of people are planning to be away still...what about planning a meet up in January though? It's always miserable after Christmas and New Year, and if we plan for it in advance maybe train tickets for those outside London would be cheaper?

scorpio1 · 18/10/2008 20:28

oooh loving the sound of January!

SalLikesCoffee · 18/10/2008 20:30

Sound like a good idea LadyBee. I've been treatening to try the whole water thing for ages now, so might try and swop one of his midnight feeds tonight.

Scorpio, have you heard the results of the fight yet? (Sorry, have no idea how long a fight lasts.)

scorpio1 · 18/10/2008 20:31

He is on about 9ish....i will post here and FB!

V excited,

am off for bath now, I'll be back!!

LadyBee · 18/10/2008 20:31

ah...harder when not taking a bottle

My HV was very supportive of me doing some BLW type feeding, and said that I should/could start using a normal beaker for him to learn to drink from a cup - she reckoned BFed babies seem to be able to do it. I've started offering a tiny amount of water after his lunch from a little espresso cup which he manages quite well from.

SalLikesCoffee · 18/10/2008 20:33

Sorry, posted a bit slow there! Well, I'm always up for a meetup, so as long as it's not November, count me in!

Hahahaha re espresso cup.

LadyBee · 18/10/2008 20:37

I've got a sneaky feeling Ben's waking is more comfort/boredom than anything else as he always gives a little giggle when I go in, so obviously not dying of hunger.
I felt really thirsty while I was getting over my cold though, and he's still coughing horribly, so don't feel like I can stop it just yet.

SalLikesCoffee · 18/10/2008 20:41

Well, the good news is that B might easily get over the habit then when he feels better. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Roelof is definitely either hungry or thirsty, as he's sleepy but downs the bottle, and then pushes the bottle aside, turns on his side and goes back to sleep!

Denny185 · 18/10/2008 21:04

Sorry to post and run earlier (how rude) DD1 requested my presence in her hairdressing salon.

IMO all children do different things, some r capable of lasting 12 hours but not sure what makes them different. DD1 was a terrible sleeper (2 1/2 when finally started sleeping through) but a lot of hers was to do with loosing her dummy during the night. DS and DD2 as a result have never had a dummy and both slept for 12ish hours from about 10 weeks (I know I am v v lucky). For both of them I think its because we have been able to establish fairly good day time naps and they have learnt to self settle. I think if this pattern wasnt established I would be tempted to continue dream feeding/waking to feed at 10/11ish so at least there is less disruption to your sleep, especially when you have to be up during the day for the other LO's.

If your HV gives you any advice on getting her to take a bottle Id love to hear it BYW. I thought Id get tough and offer bottle and nothing else for 11am feed, guess what, shes opting for nothing else, little tinker.

Hope the fight has gone ok.

Wish I still lived in Herts and could come to the London meet ups would love to see u all in RL

scorpio1 · 18/10/2008 21:06

Thing is, Mimi used to sleep that long; and when she wakes she is more moaning than crying...DH is a big softie and asks me to feed her, so i do.

DH is away all next weekend - may enrol Mimi in sleeping bootcamp, lol

DH fights in about 15 mins

scorpio1 · 18/10/2008 21:07

ah, just re-read - you think maybe a dream feed?
