OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
scorpio1 · 08/10/2008 13:15

might make this for dinner tonight

alcohol will cook off won't it? Only a bit of grape juice anyway, lol. Thought mimi would love potato cake thing

MommyHasaHeadache · 08/10/2008 13:20

mmm yum - think I might make that too! And yes the wine will cook off.

scorpio1 · 08/10/2008 13:21

there is another one on there too - Rick Stein's lemon & fennel sausages, yum.

SuzeM · 08/10/2008 13:22

VS, glad to hear it.

Scorpio, that looks good. I just had a sausage roll, how unhealthy is that!

Picallilli, DD used to only nap for 45 minutes at a time but I started putting her down for at least one nap per day in her cot. She used to wake after 45 minutes but I ignored her and she went back to sleep. I like her to have one nap in her cot, I don't think she sleeps as well in her pushchair.

Peachy · 08/10/2008 13:40

Scorpio if the disability (doesn't need a dx) causes you to have to give your child more care than anotjer child of that age would need, then you are entitled to DLA. Proabably at the lower rate but its not means tested and worth applyng for.
Reports / diary etc essential then to back up the application

Peachy · 08/10/2008 13:43

Oh and yes the wine'll cook off LOL

scorpio1 · 08/10/2008 13:57

Thanks Peachy, i will ask SENCO about it

only asking about wine as don't really want Mimi having full on alcohol, lol

myself, on the other hand.....

Peachy · 08/10/2008 13:58

scorpio- 2 minute dla test

scorpio1 · 08/10/2008 14:00

my laptop wont read it

Soph73 · 08/10/2008 14:01

Afternoon all.
Extra big & hug for you VS.
Scorpio - DS1 is 6 & doesn´t speak in grammatically correct sentences (although is getting better), but that´s probably down to the 2 languages. 2 years ago his teacher suggested a speech therapist but there isn´t one on this island that speaks English & we certainly didn´t want to take him to a Spanish one as that would defeat the object of the exercise. Spoke to a couple of people on MN and have decided to wait till he´s 8 years old to see how he´s progressed. God only knows what we´ll do if he hasn´t.

Peachy · 08/10/2008 14:02

Well scorpio its the cerebra website if you can get in via googe or something like that? tehn just search DLA

VictorianSqualorSquelchNSquirm · 08/10/2008 14:02

Scorpio It is a word.doc, I've attached it to an email for you.

Peachy · 08/10/2008 14:05

Ah tis ok- copied and pasted it:

Disability living allowance for children and young people under 16
You can claim DLA even if you don?t consider your child to be ?disabled?. For the purposes of DLA, ?disabled? simply means that your child has a long term illness which affects their everyday activities.
And it doesn?t matter if you?ve been advised not to make a claim. If anyone, including Benefits Agency staff, your GP, a nurse or social worker told you not to make a claim because your child is not ill enough, get a second opinion from a professional welfare rights worker. People have all sorts of ideas about who ?should? and ?shouldn?t? get DLA, and most of them are wrong. The question of entitlement is a legal one, not a medical one. If in doubt, make a claim.
Your own circumstances as the parent or carer are not taken into account in any way, either. So it doesn?t matter if:
you?re working
you?re unemployed
your partner works
you don?t have a partner
you?ve never paid national insurance contributions
you, or anyone else in your family, is claiming any other benefits (such as Incapacity Benefit, Income Support, Jobseekers Allowance or DLA)
you have savings
Try this two minute test to see if your child might be eligible
(This is not a legal test, it?s one we invented to help make it easier to decide whether to make a claim).
Step 1 Look through this list of some (but not all) of the activities that are relevant to DLA:
walking outdoors
walking outdoors in unfamiliar places
staying safe when left alone
learning new skills
playing
waking up, getting up and going to bed
washing, bathing and showering
dressing and undressing
going to the toilet
communicating with other people
eating and drinking
taking medication or using medical equipment
sleeping in bed at night
moving about indoors
social and leisure activities
Step 2 Choose one of the activities above that your child has difficulties with.
For example, your child may have difficulties with walking outdoors in unfamiliar places because they do not clearly understand the danger from traffic; dressing and undressing because of muscle stiffness or spasms; eating and drinking because of problems with sucking and swallowing or sleeping at night because they wake every few hours or they need help to change position.
Step 3 With your chosen activity in mind answer the following true or false questions If your child?s condition is a variable one, so the answer is sometimes True and sometimes False then the answer is True. We explain how to deal with fluctuating conditions in Completing section 2.
My child can do it:
but it hurts them True or False?
but only more slowly than other children of the same age True or False?
but only by following a rigid routine True or False?
but only with more help than other children of the same age True or False?
but not as safely as other children of the same age True or False?
but only because they?ve got a special technique of their own True or False?
but they need more encouragement than other children of
the same age True or False?
but they need a closer eye kept on them than other children
of the same age True or False?
or
My child can?t do it, but other children of the same age can True or False?
Step 4 If you haven?t answered True to any of the questions, try the test again with another activity from the list and so on, until you?ve found a statement that is true or decided that there aren?t any.
Step 5 If the answer is True to any of those questions in relation to any activity then your child may be entitled to DLA.
If the answer wasn?t true to any of the questions, your child may still be eligible for DLA, you should try to get advice from a professional welfare rights worker.
To find out more download a copy of the Cerebra DLA guide for children from the Cerebra website.

scorpio1 · 08/10/2008 14:05

scorpio1 · 08/10/2008 14:06

Peachy thankyou!

Soph73 · 08/10/2008 14:07

Love the name change btw VSSnS

VictorianSqualorSquelchNSquirm · 08/10/2008 14:07

Actually, that's reminded me something, I might ask it in SN but wasn't sure if eitehr of you knew.
Does dyspraxia cause sleep issues?
I've noticed this week without DD being here that the rest of the house are still asleep when I get up at 7:30. When Dd is here they are up by at least 6am, and no quite often I put her to bed, only to find her still wide awake hours later.
I just get quite confused as to what is and isn't the dyspraxia and as a result find it quite hard to know what to try and change and what to expect from her. I don't want to tell her off for something that's not ehr fault or try and get her to do something that she won't be able to do.

scorpio1 · 08/10/2008 14:07

Goodness, most of those activities have 'true' answers, even SENCO said.

scorpio1 · 08/10/2008 14:08

yes, VS. R is terrible sleeper, often up at 4am for the day, bried to be quiet, hard to get sleep and night terrors

VictorianSqualorSquelchNSquirm · 08/10/2008 14:09

Thanks Soph.
This time last year I was still Lorayn so my halloween name was LORAYNingnewtsandfrogs, I prefer this year's.

VictorianSqualorSquelchNSquirm · 08/10/2008 14:11

It's a minefield isn't it?
I just feel so helpless when she does something I would correct with a child who was NT, y'know?

Sorry, Soph, here's me moaning about slight dyspraxia, goodness knows who you must get about Sam's DX.

scorpio1 · 08/10/2008 14:12

oh hi soph

Chip day today?

Soph73 · 08/10/2008 14:18

VSSnS - don´t be silly that´s why we´re here I think we´re doing very well (in my completely unbiased opinion ) and I try not to worry about anything until something crops up iyswim but there are days where I want to scream and wish Sam was as on-track as the other babies on here, but hey, that´s all parents isn´t it?
Scorpio - hi, unfortunately not, chips are Thursdays but it´s fish this week and I´m allergic to fish How sad am I?

VictorianSqualorSquelchNSquirm · 08/10/2008 14:19

Who?Who? how [lack of sleep emoticon]
