OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EllieG · 07/10/2008 20:07

Goodness has been a bit dramatic today. Let's have a love-in tonight. All together now [sings]
'All we are saaayinnng, is give peace a chaaaance'

That should do it.

I am a BLW wuss. I gave her royal shortness a rice cake today, she coughed and I patted her on the back in very collected manner. She went back to munching, put some in her gob, whereupon I panicked that was too much and fished it all out. Silly mummy. I will try again tomorrow with a bit of banana and try not to freak out if she manages to eat some or she'll be on purees til she's 18.

SalLikesCoffee · 07/10/2008 20:07

During a papaya and banana finger food episode I briefly wondered if we could start having dinner in the bath!

Denny185 · 07/10/2008 20:09

Now theres a plan

EllieG · 07/10/2008 20:10

I also don't like the messy aspects of blw. She rather thoughtlessly threw her banana yesterday on the floor.

Denny185 · 07/10/2008 20:12

Large plastic sheet on floor, beware the bannana it stains black and its a slippery little sucker

KnitterInTheNW · 07/10/2008 20:19

Yes, slippery and turns into goo if you don't pick it up straight away. delightful.

Ellie, thankyou for the pics of your delicious Mol, I'd forgotten what a pretty colour the blanket is!

EllieG · 07/10/2008 20:21

Where does one get plastic sheeting from?

knitter - yes, she IS delicious isn't she? [proud mummy emoticon] She loves her blanket, is frequently to be found chewing it.

LadyBee · 07/10/2008 20:26

I was thinking about a trip to B&Q, as wanted to manufacture a polytunnel-type thing for the garden anyway.

Talking of turning to goo. I made the baby rice to the consistency I thought was right. Then BFed DS. Then put him in chair and got the babyrice and it had liquified.
Made another lot, got to consistency I thought right, started feeding DS, by the time I was half way through, it had liquified.
Why?

EllieG · 07/10/2008 20:28

I know! It just does that. I think it might be the effect of their saliva on it - you know they don't take whole mouthfulls and a bit of dribble is on the spoon etc. But all I know is that babyrice has to be eaten quickly or is soup.

Sal, R is delicious too! And has as many chins as George!

SalLikesCoffee · 07/10/2008 20:45

Hehehe Knitter. I don't mind him having that many chins, but got a little embarrassed when I looked at the pic of us watching tele and saw I've got just as many as him!

LadyBee · 07/10/2008 20:54

Sal, he looks so happy in that little car thing! I'm sure Benedict would be jealous if I showed him that pic

In fact, just showed DP and he's jealous

SalLikesCoffee · 07/10/2008 21:04

hehehe. I could kiss him for liking it, because really he's still a little too young to properly enjoy it and dh said i should wait, but it was almost half price at Toys r Us and i couldn't help myself.

Peachy · 07/10/2008 21:16

Exposures- minimum to create an allergy is one but can happen at any time, inrtolerances can build up too so if it were me I'd do no more than one food a week, keepin a plain back diet- bas's is butternut, sweet potato, potato, gluten free pasta, avocado chicken and beef. We know dairy, tomatoes and bananas are issues but they may not be forever so I can attempt to reintrodce in the future.

With gluten do remember that supermarkets sell ranges of gf food now- Bas has the pasta, naan and likes the bread made into eggy bread (dont try the bread yourself, like chewimng flAnnel, but not as if they know the taste of farmers batch is it?)

LadyBee · 07/10/2008 21:20

I'm such a stingy mum, I think I've only bought one thing for him and that was more to get a bit of time for me (his playgym). DP on the other hand bought a little stash of rattles, squishy things, bears etc.

Of course, my money goes on buying vests, socks, sleepsuits etc, and his on cute little tops and jeans....am so boring & practical (however DS is not mostly naked, which I suspect he might be if left up to DP)

Peachy · 07/10/2008 21:25

We've bought a few things but not hundreds- you wait you first timers, Christmas isn't far away and then you will learn ha ha ha

I spend most of my money on food but I am a bit of a foodie type and love cooking for him, trying new things. I'm the same wit the boys, which is why they all gotr excited over lobster on the M&S website .... (overdone it a bit perhaps? pmsl)

I was wrong; Bas didn't have a tooth, 2 came through together. No wonder he was screeching- but glad we're seeing the Cranial Osteo as she specialises in learning difficulties anyway so not a bad thing. Wouldn't mind sleep or indeed sex at some stage too!
We don't actually own a cot as we know it wouldn't get used (certain on in attic is beyond repair after 5 kids- shows how resigned we have become!

LadyBee · 07/10/2008 21:27

evening Peachy, ta. I don't have any food issues and DP's only one is crayfish. Or is it lobster? neither are likely to be on my DS's menu anytime soon as much as I love him.
Hmmm, what to give next - such a lot to choose from. We've got pears, so think will go for that and then maybe potato.

Promise will not bore you all with blow-by-blow account of babyB's eating am just a bit over-excited about this new thing to do.

Oh Sal, keep meaning to say. I made DP buy me this mainly for its super cuteness . He is a gadget-freak so it didn't take much persuasion.

SalLikesCoffee · 07/10/2008 21:41

Nice, love the fact that it can do small amounts. I haven't used my blender for R because I imagine for a smallish amount most of it will just stick to the sides anyway. How do you like it? I like the fact that bowl can go in dishwasher too. (That would be even more impressive if he had a functioning dishwasher )

I have to decide between a hand blender (which I thought would be the best option) and this which I now also like... Off to read some reviews - if anyone's used both, please shout re preference.

I don't want to buy R a big Christmas present - am ok with birthdays and big presents, but not for Christmas. It's going to be hell restraining dh though.

LadyBee · 07/10/2008 21:50

Haven't tried it out yet

But I do have both so will experiment tomorrow and let you know.

It actually didn't occur to me that the handheld one would do the job. It does make excellent smoothies though.

SalLikesCoffee · 07/10/2008 22:03

maybe i can get one of those handheld blenders that comes with the additional blade that can chop too. something like this, but might see if anything similar but cheaper, it's not as if i'll use it every day.

VictorianSqualor · 07/10/2008 22:23

Excuse me PaL, but I don't think you were being addressed in my post that was specifically to knitter in relation to what she said but I'll answer anyway.

Knitter said, and I quote "I know of a couple of other ladies on this thread who just haven't mentioned what they're doing re weaning, because of the response they'd get." so if it wasn't being said behind my back how did she know that then? Hmm? Psychic?

I've already said about the delightful group pounce that you all relished in earlier, one makes a comment and everyone comes out of the woodwork eh?

As for Kaybee not coming back, that's fuck all to do with me. She got pissy before I said much read the goddamn thread if you don't remember and she wasn't exactly a regular was she?

So, no, not 'friends' again as I said I won't be hung for something I have already apologised for a month ago but that's fine, you come along when it's already supposedly sorted and add your attack why not.

and Knitter, I apologised twice and you graciously(?) accepted my apology, of course, I had to reiterate it a third time before it was acknowledged Of course it's ok for everyone else to say what the hell they want and get arsey over me right?

God I love a bit of old fashioned hypocrisy.

Nice to see how much all the help I gave everyone during pregnancy and wrt breastfeeding was appreciated.

MommyHasaHeadache · 07/10/2008 22:27

Gorgeous new pics Sal! Love the little car as well - I just know Gigi would love that too! She lves all her toys and plays with them so nicely - she especially likes toys that make noise (as most babies do I am sure!) her Grandpa sent her this wind chime type toy which is hanging on her babygym now, and she is mad for it! 'Attacks' it, shakes it like crazy, tries to eat it, slobbers all over it. She has another similar toy haning on her car seat and again she just seem to love it - or the noise it makes (like a chime).

And Ellie - oh my word you make me laugh!!

Oh and btw - gadget kings and queens, check this little beauty out!

Re. Christmas presents - I don't even know where to start! I could go very crazy, but will try to restrain myself!

Peachy · 07/10/2008 22:31

VS hugs- I remember you aplogising way back.

Perhaps we can hope that now everyone has cleared the air it can be passed? would hate to lose any of the support on this thread and VS only some poeple joined in, so it would also be a shame if you flounced.

or shall invoke that most annoying of MN traditions:

--------

(line under it)

MommyHasaHeadache · 07/10/2008 22:31

VS - for what it is worth, I do appreciate your help, both during my pregnancy and now at weaning age. If it wasn't for you, i would not have known about the dangers of weaning early, and as you know, I have waited the required amount of time, and that is largely down to you and your (much appreciated) advice.
