Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Lily - that sounds better
hope for more progress tonight.

actually last night with ds2 wasn't really bad, just the cumulative effect catching up with me i think.
oh hang on he had calpol night at bedtime, hmm.
will have to see what he's like without it tonight to judge.

fillybuster · 13/11/2008 15:25

Well, I've just spent the last hour catching up on the last week or so's posts and of course by the time I was finished and hit 'refresh' there were about 5 more! Sigh...anyway, I'm not going to be very good at personals today especially since I'm still in the middle of the whole weird have I/haven't I got a job (and if I do have one, which company am I working for?) stuff which has been insane today.

Tamara now has 2 teeth (yay!) which I'm very proud of as ds had none until 14mos She is shuffling backwards on her tummy still and swinging round 360 degrees but hasn't figured out what knees are for! Never mind, she seems quite happy except when she gets stuck because she has reversed under the sofa (again!). She's also somehow shuffling around a bit on her bum - she sort of leans a long way forward to reach something and sort of moves her bum as she rocks back. Anyway, not real movement but it keeps her happy for now . Mostly she's still the happiest, giggliest most chilled baby I know but she has very very firm opinions about things and isn't scared to express them although mostly it just makes me laugh... The nicest thing is how brilliantly her and ds1 get on - she totally adores him and thinks he's the funniest, most interesting being on the planet and he is massively protective of her (and loves the adoration!). Its cute, even when they gang up on me....
Sorry for all the bad sleepers (esp JKS and Lilyloo, it sounds awful) - we've not really had those problems but I've been managing to keep myself awake perfectly well on my own, with job stress and other stuff to worry about....so I'm sort of with you at 3am!! Tamara is sleeping and eating fine most of the time although she has decided she doesn't really want to eat 'mush' any more, just solid food. Luckily lumpy mush seems to be an acceptable compromise so I've started adding couscous, mini pasta and other such things to my purees
Ds is mostly amazing, although he's also had some interesting post-cold strange night maladies (like yours Simpson!)...we had "my toe hurts", "my tummy is sore", "my pillow isn't right" and (my favourite) "i really need to yawn but it isn't coming" between 1-5am for several nights before he realised it wasn't really working on the sympathy front! I was deeply annoyed to be yo-yo-ing for my perfectly healthy 3yo whilst my lo slept right through it all !
Right, time to go and do some more work...sorry, I've just banged on about myself for ages and haven't done any proper personals but I will do better next time...honest!!! xx

I hadn't seen the latest on Amani's thread. Why do people feel they have to be so rigid and so aggressive? On both sides in this case. It's a big old world and there's enough room for many possible solutions.

simpson · 13/11/2008 16:26

Hi all

Have had a total pants day and am definitely on the wine tonight

Feel like the worst mum ever as the minute Ds got up this morning he said mummy my tummy hurts and spewed all over me

Have kept him off pre school today. He has eaten very little couple of bites of toast here and there.

Just got back from hosp with DD. They are not convinced she has dairy intolerance as she manages her ff but have to drop off poo sample

Also said she has skin tags on her bum so when she tries to poo they will hurt. Have got lactulose to soften poo. In a couple of days give her a yogurt and see what happens.

She has also got cream for her skin as its a bit dry.

DH is now coming down with dreaded lurgy too.

JustKeepSwimming · 13/11/2008 16:32

simpson - ((hugs)) you are not having a good day. but not the worst mum surely, just an ill household?
(unless you aren't telling us about the froot shoots and junk food you've given ds to get through the day )

erm, doesn't lactulose have milk in it? lactose? or am i being thick?
and the straining wouldn't be to do with the tags would it?
and out of curiosity did they say to do anything about the tags? (think i have 2 under my arm and would love to get rid)

hope you all start feeling better soon.

i'm on the wine later too

been good the last few days!

LaTrucha · 13/11/2008 16:50

Simspon - sending you a hug. Everyone has abd days. It's not your fault DS is ill!

We're having a rough afternoon. I've just had to get the sling out as Sabela is really upset and won't be put down. I think it's teeth. I gave her a 'nice' biscuit (adult biscuit called 'nice'). Does this make ME the worst mother in the world? Poor little tot. She was so upset and she liked it.

JKS - don't skin tags fall off eventually? I had one and it did. Is it from pregnancy?

simpson · 13/11/2008 17:03

JKs - just feel pants because when Ds was making excuses in the night maybe he felt ill

Dodn't think about milk in lactulose

Forgot to ask what caused the tags in the first place but he said when her poo is softer and she stops straining they will heal.

Nice biscuits are our favourite in this household Rhats how I know when DD is not well...when she refuses one

Ds has now decided he feel well enough for some spaghetti hoops

Lilyloo · 13/11/2008 17:24

Oh Simpson tought day but 'worst mum' no enjoy the wine!
Also not really sure that's right today giving dd lactulose as what is causing the constipation in the first place ?

lAt at some parents one way view at bringing up children i have had 3 and don't protest any way is right as i have done different things with each to suit the child rather than MY way of parenting!

simpson · 13/11/2008 18:08

Think hosp are going to wait and see what the results of her poo show. If she has dairy intolerance it will show up in tests.

Now just have to wait for DD to do poo at convenient time ie NOT just when I have to pick up DS from pre school. Poo has to be "fresh"

Having fish and chips tonight for tea

Lilyloo - I know what you mean about the way some people bring up Dcs Their way or wrong way!!

LaTrucha · 13/11/2008 19:35

That discussion really got me cross. Not because of what was said necessarily but how it was said. I didn't want to respond though. I'm not on Mumsnet to get into slanging matches.

Except with you guys of course!

simpson · 13/11/2008 19:45

it's probably put poor Amani off coming back to MN

LuckySalem · 13/11/2008 19:46

Which thread?

LaTrucha · 13/11/2008 19:53

DOH! I just got myself involved again. Against my better judgement.

It's just the 'evidence' that woman cites is not evidence at all. One is an newspaper article about Claire Verity, another was an advertisement for a book by a woman who is opposed to CC and another was an article on the negative impact of nurseries on small babies.

simpson · 13/11/2008 19:59

Lucky - Can't do links Is under sleep Amani started a thread called my 11mth old has never slept through the night or something like that.

Has got into the argument for/against CC

LaT - you are so right Green Monkeys as given NO proof of her case

FFS there are going to be people out there who have to put their Lo in a nursery and then read the article she linked and feel bad. TBH I only read the nursery one yesterday then realised what kind of things she was linking to & didn't read the other 2 links.

LuckySalem · 13/11/2008 20:00

Bless!! Will go look and see if I can help.

Lilyloo · 13/11/2008 20:25

Didn't even click on her links as she was spouting rubbish bot obv bias evidence then!
Poor Amani wish she would come back here. Her little dd seemed to be really suffering and would like to know how she is getting on with her eczema!
Martha still suffers really bad esp on her face it was bright red today and she tears at her ears which are all sore and dry and scabbed!

AngeChica · 13/11/2008 20:30

yeah that thread is hijacked by "extreme mumsnetters" (sigh).

Ohhhhh, lactulose , I asked for some in the hospital because I needed to "go" post CS. I then had to beg the midwives to use their staff loo as I was too embarrassed to use the one on the ward as it was so explosive , sorry if TMI.

IIRC it was like this really sickly sweet syrup.

AngeChica · 13/11/2008 20:31

the lactulose that is!

simpson · 13/11/2008 20:46

Angechica - Oh noooo. Guess I had better only give DD a tiny amount then. Did not brave it this evening as don't want poo explosion in the early hours

Lilyloo - We got given an enormous pot of Epaderm for DD's skin. Have to put it on 4 times a day.

Also got oilatum for bath.

MrsMcJnr · 13/11/2008 21:00

LaT ? yup all trousers are tightening and I?ve dug out and washed my mat clothes, still bored of some of them!! Been avoiding Dad poor Sabela!

Gosh Lilyloo how do you exist when you have to get up so much in the night? Do you bother to clean her teeth after each feed?

JKS ? hope that molar ends your woes, I can see them on both sides at the top through the gum but they haven?t broken through yet, poor DS is biting everything. Sorry to hear that the MN brigade got to you. I had a bikini wax when pg last time and as a result have about 7 skin tags down there, not very nice but at least they are out of sight no waxing this time round!

Ah Filly ? lovely to read your catch up, makes me think I am doing the right thing having a 2nd!

Poor you Simpson, what a day! Poor Ds and sorry to hear that there is no simple answer for DD?s intolerances! Enjoy the wine!

Off to find this hot thread!!

Lilyloo · 13/11/2008 21:02

MrsMc lo,at even the thought of cleaning dd's teeth at 10 , 1 , 3 and 5 No i don't she does them in the bath and with the other two before school!

simpson · 13/11/2008 21:11

Forgot to mention when at the hosp had to get DD naked for weigh in before appt and the room had loads of pictures on wall and there was a picture of a duck (DD's favourite thing ATM) so cue about 30 mins for "duck, duck, duck" So sweet...Woman doing weigh-in thought it was hilarious!!

Mrs Mcjnr - think I have same age gap as Filly and my 2 adore each other is very sweet. DD doesn't laugh for anyone like she does for Ds. Although he does keep wanting to pick her up so have to watch him there!!

Lilyloo · 13/11/2008 21:32

LOL so will you be ebaying for ducks ?

simpson · 13/11/2008 21:39

Luckily have loads of plastic bath ducks that are Ds's but he says DD can "borrow" them!!

Don't think she would know what a real duck looked like...just the yellow plastic variety with big grins!! (that was what the pic was at hosp)

Wolf was puked on this morning BTW had emergency wash as DS wanted to lie on sofa with it!!

madmouse · 13/11/2008 22:05

helllloooooo I am back

got back at 7pm after a loooong drive but it was an ok trip. dh quite upset as his mum is really so forgetful now and the home she is in is lovely, but she is on a locked ward to stop people wandering out, so we need a pin code to get out once in and we need to inform staff before taking her out , but we had a good laugh and a wonderful birthday dinner in a posh restaurant

Nathan has been bril, coped with so much: long journey there and back, then driving between my dad's and mil every day, then being cooed over and stalked by hordes of dementing ladies, sleeping in a strange bed, being taken to see his great grandfather in yet another nursing home, shops, strange food. he took it all in his stride with no end of smiles just really bad nights , waking every two hours most of the time . but also another teeth nearly through and it was very cold in the attic room at my dad's

lots has happened, hope everyone is ok, will catch up tomorrow xx
