hello

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MrsMcJnr · 20/10/2008 22:32

The financial situation is depressing but I do agree that there is a lot of hype too.

LuckySalem · 20/10/2008 22:34

I agree its depressing but for people like us who are affording our bills on one wage, not looking to move house (well not looking to hard) and not invested in anything its not too bad.

MrsMcJnr · 20/10/2008 22:36

That's our position too

LuckySalem · 20/10/2008 22:37

So why doesn't he see that? Why doesn't he understand that nobody can ever AFFORD children we just do it!! Ok enough ranting and raving.

Housemum · 20/10/2008 23:14

Tell him there'll be an extra child benefit payment coming in!!! Seriously, 0 to 1 child is a big step financially, 1 to 2 is minimal (except poss a double buggy if close in age), then 2 to 3 can be a big expense as may need bigger car. So all you can do is point out the advantages of 2 children that can be close enough to play together and share toys.

Good luck!

JustKeepSwimming · 21/10/2008 09:04

Yes not much added cost having ds2 - except for childcare when i go back to work, but if you're not doing that then that's irrelevant
One tip would be (think simpson did this) once pg, hide away some of the first one's 'younger' toys so you can 'regift' them for the next Christmas/birthday.
More nappies i suppose...

cr*p night and morning, ds1 up at 5.30, cue me a sobbing gibbering wreck in the corner, not having had longer than a 3 hour stretch of sleep

nicky - hope shoulder better?

off to nursery in a mo, will have to wake ds2 though as timings all off today.
then going to try bf group though we have had to leave early the last 2 weeks as ds2 has gone into meltdown being so tired.

hope everyone having a better day than me!

simpson · 21/10/2008 11:50

Definately have not bought much extra stuff for DD. Kept all of Ds's stuff.

We bought a double buggy (actually my parents bought it as present to new baby)

Bought buggy board

Bought bumbo

Bought new outfit for DD to come home from hospital in.

Think thats about it. Most of her toys were in attic and were Ds's.

Still not decided about going back to work and have till 29th Oct to decide

Think I am going to stay at home for another yr till Ds is at full time school then look for a job then, but my worry is that there may not be many jobs then if economy not good. Also am waiting to see how DH copes with work over the next week or so. If he can't cope then I will definately be going back. Ahhhh decisions!!!

Best go DD just woken from nap and screaming blue murder!!

Gingeme · 21/10/2008 13:07

jks sounds pretty much like my morning well and night. I think its because I put the boys to bed that bit earlier last night they woke earlier (6 am) and so it kind of backfired on me. Trouble though I got up early I was late for my morning activities
Never mind I'll tyr to get them to bed at 7.30 tonight and se if that makes any difference.
Apart from feling like a total wreck this morning all is fine in our household.
DH has to have his tooth out tommorrow morning!
Not alot planned for the rest of today realy. Might go to the park for an hour. Make the most of the sunshine.
Oh Lucky your kittens are so cute I'm trying to convince DH that the boys would so love one but all I get is mumble mumble more mess mumble more shit to clear up mumble mumble...

Gingeme · 21/10/2008 13:09

P.S if you wait till you could afford to have kids you would never have them . Just go for it. We did

Lilyloo · 21/10/2008 13:11

Afternoon all

Nicky hope you ok today ? Sounded painful!

Lucky wow that's gone really quick with kittens bet you will be to see them go! Lucky would agree Eng Lang is harder than Eng Lit!

Simpson hope dp day at work going ok!! LOL at your job dilemma now , why change of mind ?

Ange bet it's really hard not being able to pop round to see mum!

Housemum well done Amelie dd has balanced for a few seconds when she has let go the sofa etc! before tumbling over

Gingeme glad all's well again in your house!

JKS you are way too organised I don't know how you manage with dh away a lot i am glad dp back and sharing the load!

Madmouse Nathan is soo cute!! Does beetroot stain

Mrs Mc i think the hardest financial cost is number 1 i have bought less and less with dc no2 and 3 , think the costs come later on ! But we wouldn't have had 3 dc if we had had them when we could afford too! I guess circumstances change all the time , we were much better off after dd 2 was born than we are now!

Well contraversial decision but we have done cc mixed with pup since Mon night!
I was so exhausted over the weekend , very tearful after dp being away and decided when dd woke at 12 again Mon night for a feed i wasn't going to do it!
She has been doing 2 hours for again for months it seems!
So i refused to feed her kept resettling , basically she was up from 12 - 4 when i fed her at 4.30! Very upset and we were both shattered seems harder as her cot at bottom of our bed so she kept standing up looking at me
Anyway decided to do it again last night. Still doing feed at 10! But she didn't wake until 1.30 and i kept resettling for an hour when she went back to sleep and slept until 5.30 So that was 7 1/2 hours without feed so fed her then and then she went back off until 7.30
Am hoping we are making some break through as it's been really hard and not something i wanted to do but a habit that needed breaking!
Hopefully tonight will be better too (fingers crossed emotion)

Gingeme · 21/10/2008 14:03

Fantastic lillyloo. Keep it up it will reep its rewards eventualy

LuckySalem · 21/10/2008 15:04

Good on yer Lilly - Good luck for tonight but I honestly think sometimes the best thing is just to be strict. Its just so much harder when they can't understand why you're doing it!

Right gotta go - emergency dental apt for a wisdom tooth that's been giving my gipe for a week now. I'm so scared!! Don't like needles!

simpson · 21/10/2008 15:36

Lilyloo - well done for being strong!! Agree with everyone else think its worth doing now than when DD is older (and it being even worse iyswim)

Not sure about going back to work as DH being sole bread winner is the major factor in him being ill. Think idea of me going back might help him, even if I am working just to pay childcare!! Have major decisions to make and I am the most indecisive person ever!! Also have realised now that there is no way we will have another Lo so want to spend all the baby time I can with DD iykwim.

Weather lovely here have been out for ages doing food shop for Dcs and then park. On the way back treated Ds to an ice cream from Wimpy.

DD been whingey today not sure if its because she is unsettled now we are back at my mum's or because she had a splash of cows milk in her porridge this morning although there has been no screaming and straining yet!!

DH seems ok at work so far but it is usually the evening that he starts to get stressed, so we shall see...He finishes work at 10.30pm tonight.

Our central heating has packed up too So having to pay someone to come out on thursday to have a look at it. £50 call out then have to pay for work obviously, just hoping it won't cost too much.

Gingeme · 21/10/2008 15:52

Just a quick note. DH was listening to LBC on his way to work just now and they were discussing miscarriages and a lady rang in and said she got more support from Mumsnet than she did form any counciling the gouvernment could offer her. good innit? x She was realy rating it....

simpson · 21/10/2008 16:02

Gingme - there was a FAB article in the Times yesterday about miscarriages and the recommendations mumsnet are trying to make to the NHS. And the support Mumsnet gave people. Was a big article, double page spread

Gingeme · 21/10/2008 16:18

Wow tis great isn't it?

simpson · 21/10/2008 20:18

Right better post tonight before battery dies on lap top!

My mum's VERY old computer is in the room Ds is sleeping in and DH packed up lap top for me but forgot the bit that plugs into mains (sorry not technical minded....can you tell!!)

DH seems to be doing ok at work. Is keeping himself busy etc. Am going home tomorrow morning in time for Ds to be dropped off at playgroup. Will stay there till Sunday and then come back to my mum's as want to see how DH copes with early shifts which start on Monday. If things go well....I may consider moving back

Ds said today he doesn't want to sleep and Granny's anymore

Lucky - I have big cardboard box in loft and anytime I feel Ds has outgrown a toy it goes in box to come out at a later date for DD iyswim. ATM there is a ride on toy which will be her main Xmas pressie, some pull along toys which will be for first birthday and a £5 buggy from ELC which Ds loved to push teddies around in which will also probably come out for 1st birthday.

Lilyloo - Hope tonight is easier for you. ((hugs)) definately think you are doing the right thing.

MrsMcJnr · 21/10/2008 20:18

Hey ladies DS has been a little monkey today but a lovable one he is now saying ?mama? but to everything sadly!

Housemum ? sadly no extra child benefit for me and I am trying to think of a way to make my bugaboo a double buggy but I haven?t come up with any bright ideas yet which is a shame because I love the thing! DS will only be 16 months so will need a seat to sleep in still rather than a buggy board/seat

JKS ? that?s a good idea re the older ones ?younger? toys, I don?t think DS has outgrown any yet though can you give me some examples? Sorry to hear you are having such a lack of sleep. DS?s sleeps during the day are all off but he still sleeps at night so I can?t complain.

I plan to BF B2 longer if I can to save on formula as that is a cost in the last few months that we didn?t have before you can re-use bottles can?t you? I?m guessing you need new teets though?

Simpson ? which double buggy did you get? How was DH at work today? Good luck with that work decision, tricky. Sorry to hear about the central heating.

Gingeme ? hope tomorrow starts later for you wise words about the affordability of kids By the way, I couldn?t agree more about the support on Mumsnet for miscarriage, it was the thing that got me through and I?m not sure I could have coped without it.

Lilyloo ? sounds like you are making progress on the sleep front but it does sound hard especially with her peeking at you

Lucky ? hope the dentist was ok

AngeChica · 21/10/2008 20:31

hello all, can't wait til tomorrow over, work is not nice at the moment - there is a lot of unrest and bad feeling re various issues and I feel very detached from it, which may be a good thing but it makes me feel like I just would rather be at home with my LO tbh.

Just looked at that Times article and it is very very good, very moving even though I've never been through m/c myself, how amazing would it be if Mumsnetters could actually make those changes happen!

Sympathies Lily we have had partial success with resettling DS but we sit in chair by his cot rather than leave room which has helped, but he still cries sometimes and I hate it.

DS seems to have gone off Hipp jars atm which is a real shock as he has scoffed everything I've offered him up to now.

O well, off to have a nice soak.

simpson · 21/10/2008 20:31

Mrs Mcjnr - I have used same bottles with DD and yes just bought new teats but throw away teats before storing bottles as they can go mouldy!!!

I have a 3 wheeler urban detour from mothercare which I LOVE. Is still used a lot because I don't drive and would not expect DS to walk the distances I do. Also is a 20 min waak to his playgroup which he does fine, then he runs round there like mad and is too tired to walk back. It also has big shopping basket in it. The only down side is it is VERY wide (86cms)You have to get the right double buggy for you as you will be using it A LOT especially with only 16mth age gap

simpson · 21/10/2008 20:47

Angechica - X posted. Sorry work not so good ATM. DD gone off hipp organic too although now on to ella's kitchen pouches but the ones from 7mths and organix pots and plum baby food. Expensive tastes my DD!!!

Forgot to say earlier think DD said her first word today

Was putting her in the bath in her bathseat and gave her her plastic duck which is adores and she looked at me and said "duck"

Ok well it actually sounded more like "duh" but definately think she was saying duck!! She said it loads!!!

Gingeme · 21/10/2008 21:18

Evening ladies. Oh dear ds4 is poorly think he has picked up the virus ds3 had last week. He was asleep on the changing station when I was drying him after his shower and woke up crying at 8 his temp is vwry high. I gave him Medised and stripped him off. Will keep popping in till I go to bed. Just hope he's well by Friday, his birthday
ds5 just loves the shower. It seems to realy tickle him. As I spray it on his back he wriggles and giggles . He hates getting out. Realy cries but loves having powder put on.
Well I'm off to bed soon. Try to catch up from last night. xxx

madmouse · 21/10/2008 21:39

Hi all

Been into the office today to tell my old team that I will not return to manage them and that I will move to a different office.

Nathan loves going he gets so fussed over. he was eating his lunch in the admin area with four ladies fussing over him and he was smiling, talking and eating all at once.

Went our for a meal with dh and nathan in tow, place called Taybarn, there is a few of them up north too. Like a huge buffet place. Food was vile should have guess. well dh and I had a good moan about it.

this morning (dh's day off) we had Nathan in bed between us but we both felt a bit, errm, frisky . I managed to get nathan to sleep but knew if we moved him he would wake , in the end we tried, he woke, we put him on our colourful bedspread (which he loves) on the floor...and possibly scarred him for life , the things you do with kids.

He is exhausted, I think 2 20mins naps all day. hope he will not keep waking, up early tomorrow to go to Oxford to see friends.

Lily - hope you read this in the morning having had a good night! We have been doing a bit of PUPD too - trying to get her to sleep by herself rather than feeding to sleep but tricky as she's BF - if it was a bottle I could see when she'd finished!

Going away for 2 days (1 night) soon and can't decide what to do re BF - won't have time to pump properly, so could only express a bit manually but seems a bit gross to just dump it. But if still only BF I can't go 2 days or will explode. So might try to wean her off day feeds, as will only miss one night and will be back next day tea-time. Never thought I'd BF this long, didn't for the other 2.

Rambling now, must sleep - DD2 has photo shoot tomorro (well, today no as so late)

Night night
