Ooh, not sure, Greenfairy. I'm not medically qualified or anything (don't want to do a Gillian McKeith), but some personal experience for you.
Did you have a massive supply? It sounds like me - once or twice Iestyn slept till 5am and that was too much; I was huge and in pain. I had to express. But at some stage, the pump stops stimulating your supply - at least it has for me. (Previously I had to play a roulette of expressing enough to prevent mastitis and then not overstimulating and leading to...more milk.) What I used to do was time 1 minute, and only express for that long. (I use an electric pump.) Took the edge off, but didn't empty the breasts. But strangely it's settled down now. DH took last night's feed, and I wasn't in agony this morning just slight discomfort (but Iestyn fed at 6 rather than 8).
I managed to avoid mastitis - god knows how - but it sounds really tough for you. I suppose expressing is better than mastitis? I really wish I did have a proper medical answer for you.
I can ask Super Sharon if I see her this week - although I might not see her.

You could wake Storm and phone all the rest of us who don't get 10 hours a night!!

LOL, Libra! DON'T respond!

A question back for Greenfairy and anyone else who is bfing - has your supply changed?

I've been totally terrified because mine has settled down/changed. I've gone from being Welsh Black to hardly ever being engorged. (Yeah, some people are never happy!) I was panicking but Sharon told me it's normal, and my supply isn't dwindling, just becoming really efficient.
