FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/10/2008 19:17

Poppy haven't started it yet, I read it yeasr ago aswell, trundling through my book circle one first which I must finish before 2oth then Ghost Road.

Thank you for your comments, as well, I think alot of it is go with the flow and what your baby wants.

bitofadramaqueen · 07/10/2008 19:29

I think I'll start him on 7oz from tomorrow and see how we get on. DH took him out for a couple of hours this afternoon and he was soooooo cuddly and clingy during his 6pm feed. (I never did manage to push it back to 7pm so now we just feed and bath and he seems fine with that!).

Amberc · 07/10/2008 20:18

BDQ, what my MW told me to do has worked for us. When your baby starts to finish the whole bottle increase it so you always have 1 oz left at the bottom of the bottle once the baby has finished. you should always have 1 oz left over so you know that the baby is taking all it wants as even if you increase it to 7oz, the baby may want 8 - does that make sense? Luke still only has 7 max and he's nearly 4 months now. The HV said that you should ignore guidelines on how much they have as human beings all have different appetities and faster/slower metabolisms (the only sense she's talked since I met her). The only time to worry is if they are losing weight.

Poppy - didn't get any rest as in the settling period so he was only there for 1 hour on his own. Tomorrow is 2 hours, then 3 etc. Got a friend over tomorrow and we are having lunch where his nursery is (Canary Wharf) minus babies - I can't wait! I am then going to book a pedicure for the 3 hour day and a haircut for the 3.5 hour day!

Luke went through a clingy patch when he was ill with a cold and now with the teething (although no teeth like UDC and Essie!). I have had to put my hardened head on to stop myself from cuddling him to sleep as I feel sorry for him. He is incredibly whingy though which is doing my head in a bit. It is funny when I pick him up though and he needs to bite something as he presses his face into my neck and face desperately trying to get enough flesh to bite into bless him.

Evening. Amber, holiday destination that springs to mind is Israel. Ive been there in the later part of the year. Very Hot!
Isla has been a poorly girl today again. Been bringing up most of her feeds and has a bad bum again. Could this be a milk intolerance? Terribla night again last night, awake 9.30, 1, 4.30, 5.50 up at 6.30. DD1 also awake at 10
Talking of teeth....I bought some Nelsons Teetha powder today for Isla. Swore by it for DD1, homepathic chamomilla. Thinking LO may be starting to teethe too as drooling loads, maybe the bad bum is also related, seeing HV tomorrow.
Sleep well all, Im having a glass of Red to try to aid mine!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/10/2008 20:49

Ooohhh can reccomend a lovely hotel in Eilat

whinegums · 07/10/2008 21:02

Hi everyone, been away and busy, so no postings from me for a while. Hope everyone is doing well.

Amber, we've been to Egypt for Christmas for the past couple of years, and love it - don't think we'll get to go this year, but that would be my first choice.

DramaQ - savings - yes, I also think B may spend his CTF on women and booze and waste the rest, so we have put that into a friendly society but won't top up. I have opened a shares ISA in my name for him, and am drip feeding money into it, which seems sensible considering the way things are at the moment.

I have an account with Icesave, so not feeling too trusting of banks at the moment!

B still wakes for a feed twice a night, and maybe wakes another once or twice on top of that. Luckily he settles down quite quickly, but SURELY he should be going longer than 3-4 hours between feeds by now? He's 3 months old, and must be around 14lbs (haven't had him weighed for a while, but he was 13lbs 7oz last time).

At least the Gaviscon seems to help, and the screaming is definitely better.

Oh well, he is fast asleep, so I'm going for a hot bath - my feet have been freezing all day!!!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/10/2008 21:49

3-4 hours is still normal Whinegums between feeds, sympathies on the nights, we were reccommended to dream feed at 11 which we do and now he wakes at 6 ish which is OK

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/10/2008 22:29

meant to also add that this didn't really stop until weaning was well established.

Oh and welcome back

bitofadramaqueen · 07/10/2008 22:43

Hi whinegums - sorry to hear B still keeping you up at night. S dropped his middle of the night feed a while ago, but he FF and I think you BF? The extra sleep compensates for the feeding guilt . Is he definitely looking for a feed or just a bit of comfort? Have you thought about giving him a wee bit of cooled boiled water? Again, maybe not ideal if BF so feel free to discard foolish idea!

We dream feed too, and there's no way I'll be giving that up till weaning is established either.

Upsidedowncake · 08/10/2008 09:24

Morning everyone

Sorry to hear about the bad nights etc and very excited about all your holiday plans. Interesting how much milk everyone's babies are taking. D was sick last night for the first time in a month, so I topped her up with 2 1/2 oz a bottle and she took it

Had a lovely morning with Essie yesterday and just missed PP. Very excited re Iestyn's tooth - both he and Dorothy were drooling pints

Got to take DS to opthalmologist this morning. He has annual eye tests as I had to have glasses for a squint at 3, so there's a good chance he will too. The last two years, he has been clear but he was looking at me very uncoordinatedly yesterday, so am keeping my fingers crossed there won't be a spectacular diagnosis!

We should start thinking of a new thread title. Remember when we went through a thread every two weeks???

goingfor3 · 08/10/2008 09:38

Whinegums you have my fullest sympathy, your nights sound like mineyet ds is now 20 weeks. DD2 was like this until she was 2 1/2 years old!

UDC Good luck with the appointment. I had a severe squint in both eyes which were surgically corrected. The girls have been fine and ds was clear at his last appointment but I will take him again every year until he is four.

Amberc · 08/10/2008 09:39

Morning all - thanks so much for the holiday advice I'm such an eejit - never thought about Israel or Egypt!

Luke went through the night last night from 11.50 to 6.40 - of course the night nanny was here - typical! He's in a great mood today - amazing what a good night can do - i wish I could get one! Am seeing the doctor today so we'll see what he says.

I picked Luke up this morning and I thought he weighed a ton. He was 15 7 on 2/10 and he's 17 7 now WTF!!!!! How on earth did that happen - he was wearing a nappy though so maybe he's only 17lb but that's a lot to put on in 6 days. Maybe his terrible sleep patterns were due to a growth spurt? He's mahoooosive! In fact he could even be a behemoth!

Five - what's your hotel recommendation?

Got a nice day planned. Going to docs - whooppee but then got my friend coming minus her baby for a couple of hours before heading off to nursery. Whilst he's in nursery we'll go and have a nice lunch somehere so should be lovely - and it's sunny hurrah! You can tell I had a bit more sleep than usual last night .

Amberc · 08/10/2008 09:40

PS the thread name has to include stuff about drool/teething clearly!

Amberc · 08/10/2008 09:41

PPS also pleased as I had an email from my manager at work saying a potential part time role has come up for March 09 - very excited!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 08/10/2008 09:43

Morning Amber, we stayed in The Orchid Hotel which was lovely little cabins around the gardens and the golf carts to take you to your room, it was just outside Eilat but taxis were cheap to get in, they are also very child friendly so easy to take Luke out in the evenings. Great beach where you can snorkle with dolphins and just to chill out on.

Can reccpmmend Mark Warner as well we looked at the Egypt hotels but plumped for Sunsail, they have places in Egypt, a creche and babysitting services so you will actually get some time alone or with DP.

Good luck with the doctor.

hedgehog1979 · 08/10/2008 09:54

morning all, got back from the West Country very late last night, and am now planning on spending the day catching up on everything we sky+ed while we were away.

Sorry to everyone who is having bad nights and days, Isaac is still sleeping through and quite nice and contented (although I am under no illusions that this will change once he starts teething)

Although the funeral was very moving Isaac did get to meet all his Great Great Aunts and Uncles and some very distant cousins - and he was much better behaved than his cousin [gloat]

am very ed at the teeth going on here. Am hoping Isaac doesn't get any for a long time.

on the rings and things, Interesting about eternity rings being something for a first baby - I got nothing, although I am still dropping hints.

amber can also recommend egypt as we went in Jan 06 and was georgeous, although that was pre children

Hope everyone is having a better week, must be off now as I need to go and take the laptop to DH at work as the marketing dept have sent a DVD which much be watched by all staff prior to opening, although how many Pizza Huts do you know with a DVD player!!

needahand · 08/10/2008 09:56

whinegums SJ is 17 weeks and he to wakes up two or three times a niht. Yesterday I manage to get him to drink 5.5oz of formula at the 2am feed...only for him to wake up again at 4am. I thought formula was suippose to make them go longer without food?

poppy34 · 08/10/2008 10:10

amber good news re good night (and your job)..but are you now not worrying re luke and his feeding given his size ?

wish I could be as hard as you re sleeping (had better night but did take til nearly 10 to get her settled and she REALLY screams now when she is tired)

oh well going into work this afternoon to discuss new roles so grandma will be on duty to spoil her

poppy34 · 08/10/2008 10:11

also if you're looking for stuff clubmed has some good resorts -its very baby friendly (although make sure is one that does the baby pack)

the posh one in morocco is very nice indeed

whinegums · 08/10/2008 10:33

5gomad/DramaQ/G43- thanks for that - I am trying cluster feeding in the evenings and a dream feed. Sometimes I give him his dummy when he wakes, which can settle him, but only for another 30 mins, so I think he still needs the extra food. Gah!

DQ - good luck with studying/exams/etc.

Can someone explain the logistics of going swimming with a baby? Where do you put them - I was wondering if I could take B in his car seat, and then once he's dressed I could put him in that while I get changed. I really want to go, I just can't work out the best way to do it, so looking for all your tips!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 08/10/2008 11:05

Go with teh car seat will make life easier for you all round, I will do that with the club that i go to but the puclic swimming pool has a play pen which I could use.

Parofleurmapu · 08/10/2008 13:08

FiveGoMadInDorset · 08/10/2008 13:21

needahand unfrotunately it doesn't work like that you either have a good sleeper or you don't, I have frinds whose two BF boys both slept ewally well at night and have others who FF and haven't slept at all.

Upsidedowncake · 08/10/2008 13:35

Just a quick thread title suggestion now that I've read Paro's news ...

How about, 'Three spikes and they're out. Whose teeth will be next?'

needahand · 08/10/2008 13:38

Humm perhaps not the news I wanted to hear Sophie! I think he is teething too bless him, he is a little grumpy today

Where are greenfairy and Neen these days, they haven't posted for ages.
