MOrning

Essie, I am currently waiting for Ethan to wake up as I am sitting here lopsided with milk! I'm fine in the day as he's feeding 2 hourly at least but I still struggle with milk in the night as he doesn't always sleep for the same length of time. So, no my supply hasn't calmed down yet!

Sounds like you're having the same problems Storm.

Libra - whatever happened to you last night

Upsidedowncake · 16/09/2008 09:07

essie - same thing has happened to me.

Thanks for your advice re travel sickness pills everyone. Have got bands for me and an antihistamine for C. Wish us luck!!

Dorothy is really fussy lately and i don't know if she has a cold or her teeth are moving around. It's not the reflux but she's bobbing on and off and screaming every now and again. She's a bit snotty but that could be teeth or a cold. It's like the suction hurts or something. HAs anyone else had this problem? How long does it last? Would it be easier on her if I expressed and gave her a bottle?

Upsidedowncake · 16/09/2008 09:08

Oh. DS's teeth came in at 7 months, but he dribbled and gnawed from 3 months. Dorothy is sucking / gnawing her thumb and dribbling but not as much as DS was.

pleasechange · 16/09/2008 09:09

greenfairy 10 hours! OMG that's what I dream of

Well last night I got A off to sleep at 10.05pm (he'd had a massive afternoon sleep so let him stay awake til later). So I said to DH, maybe A will sleep until 1 or 2am if we're lucky. Anyway, the first wake-up was at 10.35pm!!! A whole half hours sleep - WTF? And the night didn't really improve from there - roughly every hour or so I think!

libra what was going on with your posts?

sponge and sybil I agree about the summer born thing - genetics and support at home are bound to be much more important

essie good to see you back. My supply seems to have settled to A's requirements. I don't leak much at night (but then that would be impossible given that he seems to be constantly awake at night!|). During the day A sleeps a lot and my supply has unfortunately reduced to accomodate this. I say unfortunately because this means I'm never able to pump more than 2oz at a time!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/09/2008 09:27

Morning all.

TGF - if you post on the breasfeeding board ask for Tiktok she is the resident guru over there and is a breastfeeding concillor, she is very rational as well.

Libra - what happened there, also was thinking if we can manage a day out children free before you go back to work, maybe do some retail therapy in Portsmouth/Southampton

Sorry to hear about erratic feeding patterns and sleeping, TGF it is lovely getting that long stretch of sleep, Sebastian woke up at 6 we fed him at 6.30 and he is back snoozing will wake and feed him soon as we are going to look at a new nursery for Edie, one which we can walk to. We are also in the throws of potty training with her with a lot of support from her current nursery and is going ok so far.

poppy34 · 16/09/2008 09:28

am now scared of libralady who seems to have some kind of exorcist thing going on

UDC have had exactly same issue - edie had cold last week and is still bit snuffly and generally bit less good tempered/unsettled (although we didn't have the 4am "wake up mama its playtime"thing last night) -has been dribbling/chewing at things but you have just typed what I suspected (ie she is only practising and its way to early to be teething).

Stuck in today as waiting for birthday present (yay!!)... which is consolation for the 2 sets of builders (ours and ones at back) here although am reliably informed we shoudl have a working bath by the weekend...

Night nanny came last night and she got Luke to take 8oz at 11 o clock! Why can't we do that? He then slept to 5.45. He woke and she gave him a bottle and wind and then put him down without rocking or jiggling and he cried but then after 5 mins went to sleep on his own until 8am! I'm sure she's drugging him! I am now going to try controlled crying again but I have a cut off point of one hour. Going to put him down at 10am so got 20 mins of non screaming time. Wish me luck!!

Also has anyone got any ideas of a birthday pressie for DP- the man who has everything? Thought of a lovely photo of Luke but we've got millions and he wants to have one of all three of us done professionally (I refuse as I look so awful!). Got till 6 October. hmmmm. Maybe a babysitter and a nice meal?

poppy34 · 16/09/2008 09:48

ohh...amberc she sounds like a magician... will email her again (although touch wood things easier here re madam learning to settle herself).

What kind of stuff does your dp like? is he into gadgets? although your idea of nice dinner souunds good

good birthday (day after mine)...

poppy34 · 16/09/2008 09:49

good luck re screaming

OP posts:
Amberc · 16/09/2008 10:08

Oh. My. God. 5 mins of crying I went in and picked him up. Settled him and put him down and he's now sparko!

I am going to ask Night Nanny to come early on 6 October and DP and I will go to dinner. Perhaps he might get some nookie too if I have a glass of wine or two!

ThePenguinProject · 16/09/2008 10:20

morning all - excuse the one handed typing pls!

ryder will no longer go to sleep by himself....he'd rather scream for hours, but if i pick him up and cuddle him he'll go to sleep in minutes. not sure who was talking about feeding them to sleep, but for now i'm ignoring books etc and just going back to responding to him to aviod the battle of wills so i'm holding him now as he's just drifted off.

essie - i used to wake up with hugely engorged boobs and a wet bed every day. then as r started sleeping thru, it all settled. over the weekend he started waking during the night again, but didn't last night and i've woken up with painful boobs again. our bodies really do seem to respond to their needs don't they? i think it's amazing.

libra - r u too scared to post now? i was when that happened to me! bizzarely it only happens when i post from mobile.

amber - i hate to offer advice, because i know you've tried so much with luke. i cam only say that for ryder, the pick up, put down method worked previously. not now tho!

r dribbles so much too. some babies in my postnatal group have what looks like stubble rash where the dribble creates a nappy rash kinda thing.

poppy - what's your b-day pressie?

can't think of anything for your dp right now amber, but will give it some thought. been asked what i want for mine in 6 weeks time too.....i've got a huge list! starting with a night out, just me and dh, then pjs and a cheapie laptop.

Essie3 · 16/09/2008 10:43

Newsflash here - boobs are back to full again. But it might be because I'M HAVING MY PERIOD!
Totally horrified because I thought I was free from that faff for a long time.
My book (it's crap really) says it can reduce supply around when you come on.

Too shocked at my own body to think what else I was going to say.
Birthday presents - I'm always fairly bad at that! (But Penguin aren't we the glamorous ones - I want PJs too. I don't have slinky numbers either; normally brushed cotton!! I also wear socks to bed. It's amazing that Iestyn was ever conceived...) I'm currently fretting about our wedding anniversary next month. It's Linen, and DH likes to buy themed things. But I'm totally stumped on linen! (Maybe I'll change it to muslin, eh Hedgehog?)
Ooh, Hedgehog, don't know if you've already gone, but there's a thread on the feeding board about going away for a weekend whilst breastfeeding.

No suggestions for Poppy or UDC. But I can send 'well done, keep at it' hugs. UDC most women would have given up on bfing ages ago, I'm sure, so I'm really impressed by you. And everyone who has had mastitis, thrush, reflux, etc.

ErnestTheBavarian · 16/09/2008 10:43

Hi, just poping in to say sorry for not popping in - really busy, and off to Ch on Thursday, trying to sort our house, ds3 growth etc etc

hope all well.

Amberc · 16/09/2008 10:51

Oh dear - 30 mins later all has gone pear shaped. Baby is screaming the house down. Done the 5 minute check and picked him up and now leaving for ten minutes. It's horrible. Actually he was calming down before I went in and it all started up again as soon as he saw me.

poppy34 · 16/09/2008 11:18

PP new phone..and am giggling as remembering an incident where you had a nightmare trying to post from your phone before we had them..

essie sympathy re period...mine doesn't seem to want to end - very tedious...

amber am amazed you did 5 minutes.. I'm hopeless at cc - I'm sure they know that mums are soft touch and respond accordingly..Like PP have tried a bit of pick up/put down and a bit of picking up and not putitng down (it really does depend on whether it works but I would say she is better now than she was a few weeks ago)

OP posts:
Amberc · 16/09/2008 11:20

This is horrid. Just done the 15 solid minutes of screaming and picked him up and he couldn't keep his eyes open - why won't he just given in to sleep? Babies are strange. Got another 15 mins of it now.

Amberc · 16/09/2008 11:28

He's asleep! 1 hour of crying. Can't wait till his afternoon nap. Oh joy.

poppy34 · 16/09/2008 11:29

thats good... nap time over as she woke up when i put her down - is now playing with her muslin

Sebastaian asleep outside having just walked to the pre school, Ok it was a bit of hassle getting in, just ID and a photo taken but just under 10 minutes so not bad and the dog got walked. It is great, they only have 4 children on role and 2 members of staff so I know it sounds bizarre but quite like a childminders, level of attention is fantastic, they have and indoor play area and a large garden and because they are som small they go out on trips quite frequently which for here means going down to the beach. So she is going to start in January when she would have moved up from the baby/toddler room anyway so different members of staff.

spongebrainbigpants · 16/09/2008 11:56

thanks for the knitting link TGF, have requested an invitation!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/09/2008 11:56

Amber - are you trying to have regular nap times at the same time everyday or are you going with the flow and letting him fall asleep when he wants to? Have found it easeier with both to do the latter and then when DD started weaning then she got into more of a nap routine.

Amberc · 16/09/2008 12:10

five - I am looking for signs of tiredness first - usually 2 hours after waking. wait for him to get grumpy an yamr/rub eyes etc. He would Never fall asleep on hid oen unless it was in the buggy. Your nursery sounds nice. I can't find one without a million year waiting list so am a bit worried. Going to see one this afternoon but realise I should have put his name down long ago. Oops.

katyjo · 16/09/2008 13:03

Amberc How about something like this www.tinytreasuresgifts.co.uk/products_cufflinks.html?gclid=CLPb7vuh4JUCFQYaEAod-yxsXA
I better go lo crying!

PiggyPenguin · 16/09/2008 13:46

Quick post while J asleep. Went to cranial osteopath to see if could help with fact J will only feed when drowsy. She says he has a joint stuck in his skull which should be free and floating. Sounds very odd and surely it would affect him all the time? Anyway I hope it will help.
