Hi guys.
Thought I would just pop over to say hello.

Hopefully I will be joining you on here very soon.

Take care and enjoy your babies xx

DebitheScot · 13/09/2008 21:13

sassafrass I love that open mouthed contented 'smile' too that they have when they fall asleep on the breast. It makes me feel all nice as it makes me think about what an important job I have.

starlight are you cosleeping? Do you manage to get any sleep at all at night? I don't think I'd cope with that much disturbed sleep at night.
I'm surprised the general rule is that they won't let you see your notes and thats shocking that you have to pay for them afterwards- like you say, it's freedom of information so you'd think they'd have to let you see them if you wanted to.

mumiyumi congratulations. Your labour sounds like mine was- short and sweet and uncomplicated.

Oh and I have a question that I was wondering about. If you co-sleep and feed during the night without really waking up does that mean you feed from the same side all night? How does that work? Do you wake up with 1 huge boob and one little one? I don't co-sleep and don't plan to but was just intrigued about it.

And is it ok that nearly 2 weeks in my nipples still hurt when Andrew first latches on? The pain goes away pretty quickly unless he doesn't have his mouth open wide but then I take him off and try again. I'm sure he's latching on properly but it still hurts at first, espcially on my right hand side. I can't remember how long it took for it not to be at all sore last time round so don't know if this is normal.

congrats mumiyumi sounds like you had a very easy time! hopefully my next one will be a little bit quicker. (can't believe I'm already thinking about number 2, what is wrong with me?)

starlight I tried co-sleeping with my boob out the other night and Alfredo didn't seem to notice. Just cuddled up to it but no feeding.

eandz I bought some Fenugreek to make sure my milk supply was maintained while weaning Alfredo off formula and back onto BF. I'm not sure if it was the Fenugreek or the copious amount of pumping I did that boosted my suppply - it has one not very nice side effect. I literally sweat the smell of fenugreek out of my armpits - not pleasant .

Have just worked out that Alfredo needs to be lying completely straight in order to feed. After many many many hours of crying, him dropping feeds and me wondering whether to get the breast pump out because he was crying himself to the point of exhaustion rather than feed. God this is hard!! But he finally fed for two and a half hours solid tonight (again, stopping only for a massive poo). I'm such a bad mummy, all this time he's been crying and starving and I've been crying and pulling my hair out and DH has been consoling the both of us - and all I needed was a blardy pillow on my lap.

In other news - I made it out the house today to go see my friend try on wedding dresses and then go for a hot chocolate with DH. Brought Alfredo out and everyone cooed over him. I may one day feel normal.

BabyStarlettsBeautiful · 13/09/2008 23:39

DG You're not a bad mummy, you're fab. Look how far you have come! Babies are all different. You're getting to know yours.

Sometimes you'll find a solution to problem first try, but sometimes it'll take a number of tries. As long as you keep trying you're being a brilliant, responsive mother. It is hard, particularly as a bfer, to be sooooo responsible for your teeny baby's comfort. Don't underestimate your achievements!

AnnVan · 13/09/2008 23:53

September ladies, spare a thought for me. The last unpopped August club lady Officially overdue by two weeks! So ealous of all those due later than me who've already seen their babies.

BabyStarlettsBeautiful · 13/09/2008 23:59

Hi again AnnVan,

I see you've met our lollipop! Good luck to the pair of you

Sassafrass · 14/09/2008 11:41

Digitalgirl, I know what you mean about fenugreek sweat, not nice. I also burped fenugreek lots =)

I co-sleep with Katie and she'll wake up every two three hours for a feed at which point I switch sides, lie down again and fall asleep.

Poor Katie has got a cold, she keeps sneezing and oozing yellow snot out of her little nose. So I'm staying put today letting her sleep and feed as much as she wants and trying to make her comfortable.

meglet · 14/09/2008 14:18

We just had the midwife round for our 10 day check. DD was weighed and she has put on 4oz (from her birth weight), I am so relieved as I wasn't sure if she was feeding ok, but she obviously is.

I was on my own with DD and toddler DS for an hour today and it was awful. He was running riot and I was unable to feed her as every time I got up to stop him doing something she came off the breast. I think he is going to be put in the playpen while I feed her once DP is back at work. At least DD feeds quite fast and not too often so DS shouldn't get too ratty about it.

I am and that I no longer need even paracetamol for my cs recovery, it feels a little achy if I touch it but doesn't hurt at all. I can't beleive how quickly I've recovered this time.

digital I have never smelt fenugreek but I am intriuged about the smell now. Sorry to hear about your fragranced armpits!

foxytocin · 14/09/2008 16:19

get a stretchy wrap sling meglet, and practice feeding her in it with this leaflet.

potxola · 14/09/2008 17:01

Hello.
Had problems with the net conexion.
Welcome Starlight and Eandz
So far we have all had healthy beautiful babies. Eandz you almost had a 10lb!!!!!!
digitalgirl Well done. congratulations. you are a champion.
Lorea has put on lots of weight and can't stop feeding. She still onli takes 1oz of formula at 22:00..... the rest comes from my painful nipples. It is great to see her growing healthily after seeing her yellow and losing weight. She is pink and plump now

potxola · 14/09/2008 17:07

Congratulations Mumiyumi Yessica is a fantastic name
Congratulations Jearund I thought it was tomorrow. I am checking the other thread now.
Starlight Are you using your snugglenest?

BabyStarlettsBeautiful · 14/09/2008 19:57

Potxola Not really. I use the snugglenest to ensure she is safe on the bed when I go to the loo or need to leave the room (she can cross the whole bed to get to me when she wants a feed so I know she can move if she wants), - otherwise DH is on a bed pushed up against our small double that Baby Starlett and I sleep on together.

eandz · 15/09/2008 10:00

hi everyone!
congratulations mumiyumi

i know i have no right to claim back my life as my own anymore, but i will seriously be happy when all the relatives step back and give me space.

the muslim and jewish sides of my family have started the post circumcision wars... thank goodness i can lock baby and me in another room to get away from it all...but why, oh why, oh why won't people take 'no' for an answer?

mustsleep · 15/09/2008 12:03

morning everyone i've found you!!

i haven;t had time to catch up properly yet but could do with some advice

i chose not to breastfeed in the end my milk came in 4 days ago and my boobs are like cannonballs and have not got any better or gone down - now i haven;t touched them (although they are rock solid and all red and patchy) they are really tender and i cant even burp william over my shoulder
everynow and again i et awful shooting pains through them - now with dd they had completely gone down after 2 days is this normal or was i just lucky i canlt find anything about breasts forif you ff

am just waiting in for the hv and am going to ask her about them, but am off to the docs tmoz anyway formy piles as they no longer go back in!! so will ask there too

william is a very laid back baby so far (touch wood) not bothered by loud noises etc (skit to nosey neighbour) and actually slept through on sat night from 12 till 6!! although he messed around last night and keeps taking at least 2 hours over his 10pm bottle and then wanting another straight after!! but he doesnt have collic so is heaven after the other two

foxytocin · 15/09/2008 13:47

you sound engorged, must sleep. are you able to express off a little bit to make them more comfortable.

send dh out to get Savoy cabbages and bruise the leaves a bit and put inside your bra.

the red patches sound like you can be in danger of developing mastitis which is why expressing off a bit can help. try doing it in a warm shower. if you start to feel fluey, take some ibuprofen and get onto the gp's

also, go to search function on MN and search the breast and bottlefeeding board with 'mastitis'.

mustsleep · 15/09/2008 13:51

thanks

i thought i was engorged before it has inly lastedtwo days tops though so was getting a bit worried
not feeling fluey so hopefully not mastitis

can i express i thought that that just encouraged the flow and made it last longer?

Ponymum · 15/09/2008 14:10

Hello! Just checking in quickly to get myself on to this thread. Sarah arrived 9 Sept, thanks for updating me on the list!

Guess what? (whisper) It is my birthday today (shh!). I am staring at the best present ever! DH got me a glass of champagne earlier and I managed to spill some on Sarah's sleepsuit! What sort of example am I setting for her?

Will check back in later - I put a birth story on the other thread yesterday and hope to get some photos up shortly.

foxytocin · 15/09/2008 14:21

by expressing for comfort you will not be encouraging your supply to build up. you will be removing a lot less milk than a baby would so your body is getting the message to make less compared with when a baby feeds.

mastitis on the other hand is not v. nice so waiting a day or 2 longer for the milk to go away may be the lesser of the 2 evils.

Sassafrass · 15/09/2008 15:29

Mustsleep, I'd recommend a hot shower and gently massaging your breast under the hot water. That helped me when I was engorged after stopping breastfeeding dd1.
