Will anyone else be doing a 'Halloween' name? If you want to join in but don't know how all you need to do is go to 'My Mumsnet', then 'Registration details', change your name in there and save, then go to 'Public details' and at the bottom of the second paragraph there's a 'profile mover' link, click this and all your pics etc will move over to your new name. You can then change back to your old name once Halloween is over.

jenpetrified · 14/10/2008 14:56

Wish I'd read your post before I did it the long way LMHG !!

jearund · 14/10/2008 15:55

Jenpet I'm expressing every morning after breakfast so that DH can do the night feed. It works well as my boobs are full then so expressing after he's fed relieves them fully. In your case you could do the same but use the milk for the last feed of the day instead of giving formula if you want.

Just got back from seeing a very nice HV at the baby clinic. Dougie has put on 6lbs in 8 days (now 9lbs 9oz) so is doing well. However she rang up my surgery and made an appointment for me today before we go to Scotland when I told her about the lochia - she said it shouldn't still be red after a month - had it stopped then started again? I said yes, and when I said it was worse after going for walks she said that meant I was doing too much and I need to rest. She wants the doc to check the scar etc just to be on the safe side. I'm also going to ask him to look at Dougie as she thinks he may have reflux and infant gaviscon might help. It's because he is sick after every feed - sometimes just possetting but other times the 'cream cheese' which means it's partially digested and has come back up again. Also she asked if he was generally contented to which I said well no, not really, he cries a lot more than DD did and often for no apparent reason. She said it may be that he's in pain if it is reflux. So I hope the doc does give us Gaviscon - it would be great if it helped him!

just checking to see if my new name works. Thanks for telling me how to do it lollipop

DebitheScottishGhoul · 14/10/2008 16:33

we need a new thread name soon.

MoonlightMcKenzie · 14/10/2008 16:37

barnpot

for you

It might also help to either post your birth story here OR just type it for your own benefit. I don't know if I had ptsd with my first but there was definately something not right going on. I realise this more after the birth of no.2 because I am not currently in that dark hole I was expecting to be in post birth AND, although like Foxy I still occassionally shed tears wrt the first birth they are more of sadness, a little of anger, but no more of depression and anxiety.

I agree that going through your birth notes could help, but it took me personally AGES to get around to it, because I was afraid of going through the experience again. I cried lots, but it was very helpful. (BTW, just so you don't feel like you are making something out of nothing, I had all this and gave birth with no complications or intervention and in a en-suite MLU room with wallpaper)

sunflower78 · 14/10/2008 16:56

finally posted some pics of dd on my profile... wow, "only" took me nearly 6 wks...

imoscarsmum · 14/10/2008 17:00

jearund I think you mean Dougie has put on 6oz not lbs..LOL.
I saw HV today too - Charlotte has put on 8oz and is now 8lb8oz at 4 weeks old. Apparently, she's still on the small side but I'm not too worried.
My lochia came back a bit (after DP and I had sex for the first time after the birth) but has now almost completely gone.

potxola · 14/10/2008 17:02

Hi,
I don't know what i would do without the sling. It really calms Lorea's colic down.
Pacita I had to go through that with my first baby. Spanish people are stuck in the past. My now 4 yr old fed on demand and now sleeps through the night and he is extremely confident. Follow your instincts and don't tell them everything.

jearund · 14/10/2008 17:03

Imoscarsmum oops, yes, you're right! Although if it was 6lbs it would explain all the feeding he's been doing!!!

FullMoonHowler · 14/10/2008 17:07

thanks for the inspiration, moonlight

jearund · 14/10/2008 17:07

Hi Potxola! Dougie is fast asleep in his Close carrier and we have also bought the swaddling you recommended - will try it out tonight. We have been using the Miracle one but he's sick so often we need more than one.

I think Italians must be like the Spaniards. My friend's baby is now 20 weeks, her husband is Sicilian and she gets all her advice from his family over the phone rather than the HVs etc here. She started weaning at 4 months - now I know a lot of people do that but she's giving him 3 meals a day of things like porridge and hotpot! I told her we are advised here not to wean before 6 months but that if you do you should only give fruit, veg and baby rice (that's right isn't it?).

notcitrus · 14/10/2008 17:16

moonlight - laughing at other new mums appreciating new mums clearly struggling - I must have boosted morale at the baby clinic no end yesterday.
Not planning on returning if I can avoid it - who thought coralling over 50 mums and babies in a confined space for over an hour was a good idea? A started yelling the minute we got there, then ran into friend from NCT class. She asked how I was doing and I burst into tears.
We talked a bit, and luckily we were the first once our cohort were herded into the weighing room. One HV told me A was the wrong colour and needed to see the doc - I pointed out he'd looked fine until he'd started screaming. She thought he had a rash.
Fortuantely he's gaining weight nicely (now 9 ib 2,), and next HV asked if I wanted to talk. Cue crying agian and being taken to private room and had long consulation. She figured A has loads of wind hence all the deflating-balloon squeaking and had some helpful ideas.
And is visiting me on Thursday.

Then to GP, and have been given anti=thrush cream and antibiotics as they couldn't tell if I had thrush or mastitis but figured I had something. And was ordered to get more help at home. Luckily had friend with us last night, so got home, gave her baby and bottle of milk, and went to bed.
And stayed there most of today.

Just got dressed - time to get outside in the daylight, but atleast I now just feel sleepy not so exhausted i had insmnia and hallucinations like yesterday.

pacita · 14/10/2008 17:27

Potxola, nice to hear I'm not the only one being derided by Spanish "wisdom".

Today I had a small triumph: Diego accepted to be put in the sling (kari-me) and even seemed to enjoy it as i did some house work!

Does anyone else have one, and what do you reckon is the best placement?

DebitheScottishGhoul · 14/10/2008 17:46

woohoo, I just made over £100 selling my maternity clothes on ebay!

And now a message from ds1: .m nmg nbbbhbbbbggt

MuwahahahaMom · 14/10/2008 18:32

OOOooooOOOO!! nice result there, debi!!

imoscarsmum · 14/10/2008 18:38

I like c) is it day or night - very accurate.

Looking at some of the stories on the website for traumatic births has helped me Moonlight as i realise that my birth story is nowhere near as bad. My worst bit was when i said I wanted gas & air and was told it was 'too early', despite finding contractions difficult as i was strapped to a bed. I was officially still in early labour but as i couldn;t move around to ease the pain, insisted on it. The mw gave in and acknowledged pain can be worse when you can't move - hummph!

ninja · 14/10/2008 19:26

Lovely pictures FullMoonHowler I see you've got a Sandy on him - I'm using cloth too (have done from day1 ) I have a real mixture, how are you finding it?

I like c) is it day or night too

notcitrus I hope you've recovered from the Mum and Baby group - it sounds like a bit of a conveyor belt, I hope the HV helps on Thursday. DD1 had lots of wind and it was hard to listen to.

Maebh has put on 10oz this week and is getting quite round. She's still noisy and windy all night and getting more unsettled at times in the day, but she's always calm when we're out. The Mum and Baby groups here are small and friendly so I'm lucky really.

I've got DD1's cold though so that and the sleep deprevation are adding up and I think I need a very early night. Plus I hear Maebh waking AGAIN - she seems to be sleeping in 10min blocks this afternoon, I hope she's better in the night!

Going to an NCT sale tomorrow as I've just realised that I have NOTHING 3-6 months or bigger!

MelT76 · 14/10/2008 19:28

Hi all, hope everyone is doing ok.

Just wanted to come on for a little moan and some sympathy.

Went to the docs last week as was still in pain after c-section. anyway, she gave me penicillin but told me it was ok to still breastfeed. But DS is not settling and spends most of the day and night niggling, and his pooey nappies are very runny. HV said yesterday it was prob due to the tablets and that I might be best to ff few a few days so that the penicillin is not passed on. So cue giving ds a bottle which he pucked straight back up (more than he actually drank i think). He then wanted feeding again 1.5hrs later. Again most of this came back up. I feel dreadful. He's got a poorly tummy because of me, I cant feed him and he is now being sick at every feed

Sorry for the long whingy post.

MoonlightMcKenzie · 14/10/2008 19:32

imoscarsmum It's interesting you say that because for me, around 2cm was where it all began to go wrong for me with no.1. I was no way coping with the pain, but as it was 'early' I wasn't being taken seriously.

This cascaded into serious anxiety and distress which is really not how you want to enter the active stage of labour. I was exhausted by the time it came to push due to being so tense and from all the screaming that I had no energy left to push with and lost my contractions completely.

MoonlightMcKenzie · 14/10/2008 19:38

MelT I'm fairly certain that you can bf on penicillin. Start a thread in breast and bottle to confirm, but I'm certain enough to do it myself and I'm already at your HV's advice.

LO's niggles is probably just one of those things to get through.

MuwahahahaMom · 14/10/2008 19:47

Mel ive just started penicillin yesterday because i've mysteriously managed to get strep b in my c-section slice. and it is safe to bf while taking it.

but now that you mention it, as i was changing ds2's sick covered clothes this afternoon, i noticed loads of bumps with red patches on this arms. almost like little bites. but on both arms...now im wondering if the meds are having a minor effect. will have to ask HV tomorrow. (perhaps its safe in theory, but as was mentioned by you, perhaps a little is passed thru bebe?)
