imoscarsmum I know how you feel. I want ti bind baby starlight tightly so she doesn't grow any more. I love having a newborn and got very cross in a cafe at the weekend when someone came in with a newer baby than mine

bogie I was hoping someone would CAT hopefully to check she is okay. She was having a very tough time.

BBaby The more the merrier!

sunflower I too have a morning sleeper, after a wakeful night --- whyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

Biggogglyeyes · 13/10/2008 11:00

i can CAT hopefully.

Biglips · 13/10/2008 11:04

This is what i got so she cannot rcvde messages from us

"Sorry, hopefully has chosen not to receive "Contact another Mumsnetter" email from mumsnet. We can't pass a message on for you."

MoonlightMcKenzie · 13/10/2008 11:49

Oh I guess she doesn't want to be contacted then. Fair enough.

I hope she's okay though!

Debs75 · 13/10/2008 11:53

Hi everyone not been on for a while, had non-stop feeding last few days.

Have been expressing in the mornings and can now get about 3-4 ozs in 15 mins, it would be more but I keep spilling some. Using an Advent Isis manual pump and it is very comfy and doesn't hurt at all. Got enough for afeed this afternoon as off to watch ds's harvest festival. Should I express this afternoon if Robyn takes the bottle?

Have to go Robyn awake and screaming

notcitrus · 13/10/2008 12:47

So much for that - today not good. But seeing HV and my GP later. No thanks to arsy receptionist at A's GP who said they don't want A on theirbooks if I'm not included and the HVs may not want to see me. Tough - he's in range and his dad is registered there, and the HV admin people are happily sorting out where his records have got to.

hello ladies.
i'm soo tired, i'm too tired to sleep. has that ever happened to anyone?

i haven't left my apartment since Thursday and I haven't done my hair since Friday. Although I have been able to sneak in time to shower on a daily basis. My manicured nails had to be wiped of polish because I couldn't make it to any of my appointments on time. I've never felt so 'manky'.
i went to the health visitors last week and it was horrible! Noah kept crying and crying, i did everything i could to settle him and eventually he did, but at that point none of the other mothers were willing to make eye contact and smile back at me so i just sat in a corner beaming at no one in particular hoping to make friends with at least the wall.

Thank goodness for Mumsnet.

Kagey · 13/10/2008 14:43

Thanks Imoscarsmum, that's really helpful. I was starting to fret which made DH panic too. I'm due to have the 6-week check up in a couple of weeks so will try to hang out to then, if I get more tetchier then will definitely go and pester GP!

Pidge · 13/10/2008 14:50

Hello all - Arthur is the grand old age of 4 days! And he's about to go on his first trip to dd1's school playground for pickup time. She's been pestering to show off her new brother since the moment he arrived, and no doubt he'll get mobbed.

We're doing pretty well for these early days - he is feeding like a champ. I've got bleeding, cracked nipples and feeds are not much fun, but I've done this twice now and know that I've just got to grin and bear it for a couple of weeks till I toughen up and then it will start to improve.

I'm pretty achey from my 2nd degree tear, so standing and walking for long are out. But I've got dp and my mum and dad here helping, so basically I just get waited on. Am very, very lucky.

And still thrilled and amazed to have my perfect family - 2 daughters and a son. This will be my last baby, so I want to savour every minute, even the sleepless ones!

potxola · 13/10/2008 15:26

Eanz I felt like you when I had my first baby. Now i don't care if the other mums don't talk to me. And now I don't care and show that i don't care, I have noticed they are the ones that want to make eye contact with me.
The worst thing is going to baby groups and feeling completely invisible while the other mums are in groups. Don't worry, the world of new mums is like a war. in this group we are all nice though!!!!!!!

mamamufin · 13/10/2008 15:35

Hi guys
Welcome pidgey

Sorry I am not more up to date with you guys.
I am afraid my superwomen days are over and Ive crashed back down to earth. I have been on such an emotional high now for 3 weeks. However the offers of help and support have now gone and I am just expected to get on with it. This has co insided with dh starting a big case, my parents have gone abroad for a few weeks and euey has started to be awake (especially at night) more. Baby moon over, complete reality check. However, I am a bit annoyed that friends and family want imput in the exciting bit then do a runner. Hey ho, I am so in love with the Little fella non of that matters.

Biglips · 13/10/2008 15:50

ive got my electric breast pump - hooray!!! . Well my dd2 is such a ssssllloowww feeder as it took her from 3am - 4.30am just to drink 6oz of formula milk!!! !!!! as she falls asleep on every oz for a few minutes and then be screaming for more!!!! arrgghhhh!!

she had been awake from 8 - 1pm just constantly feeding..she is still napping as just taken DD1 to her playgroup for some arty fun and dd2 slept thru it. i am NOT waking her up!

eandz · 13/10/2008 16:00

thanks potxola i feel better, i think i'll improve my strategy and just try to talk a lot more.

ninja · 13/10/2008 16:29

I know what you mean Eandz - mum and baby groups are an art, but my DD1 and I made so many friends a lot of who we are still in touch with that it was worth it. Go with a sling on or say something outrageous to get them all talking! I can't see you really being quiet for long . TBH I think the constant sleep derprivation doesn't help, sometimes a coherent sentence is hard isn't it?

Hope the school pickup went OK Pidge I did that on day 3 and was swamped with people wwanting to see Maebh, DD1 was SO proud. The only thing was she wanted a feed in the playground, on a nice comfy wall!

sunflower78 · 13/10/2008 16:55

eandz - I understand how you feel... eventually started talking to one mum who looked as lonely as me at baby clinic, but if she couldn't make it to baby group I'd feel lost - went to the same one for 18 months but it seems as there were all these little closed groups and wasn't allowed in... kind of the same now with DS1 at school, they all look at DD in her sling, ask the usual questions, and then just turn round without even saying bye... that' probably why I spend so much time here! family and friends live in italy and the few friends I have in this country don't live close by. maybe it's the curse of living in big city...

lollipopmother · 13/10/2008 17:02

Ninja - I've been meaning to ask this for ages, how do you pronounce your LO's name?

EandZ - I am dreading going out in public with Elizabeth. We've been out three times, twice to the pub and once on the bus and she was brilliant all three times, but as soon as she starts crying I know I'm going to feel so embarrassed, I always used to hate hate hate hearing babies crying in public, used to do my head in! Now I can see that it's got nothing to do with the parents and everything to do with whether the baby fancies a good old cry or not!

Elizabeth has been screaming and feeding all day today, my nipples are killing and they've been so good for the last two weeks. I don't know what's wrong with her, she has never wanted to feed like this before. I tried expressing some after she'd been on both sides for ages and nothing came out so I'm wondering whether she's drunk it all and is now in a mood because there isn't any left. How long does it take for milk to be made, can you actually run out?

sunflower78 · 13/10/2008 17:09

lollipop - 3rd wk they have a big groth spurt and eat eat eat, your body will slowly re-adjust and increase supply.

wait til you LOs are throwing toddler tantrums at tesco's cos they "need" that toy and all the old busybodys look at you like you're a cruel incompetent mother...

pacita · 13/10/2008 17:58

Hello everyone,

I keep appearing for a couple of posts and disappearing into babyland. How do you all manage to find time to post regularly? Sigh!

I keep up to date with everyone's news as I constantly check this forum on my iphone while I feed, but it is impossible to post back anything articulate with one thumb.

Anyway, while i can still manage:

contraception I was planning on getting an IUD after my 6 week checkup. I had one a few years ago as I can't take the pill, and found it great. It was a small one (the Nova-T) taht did not make my periods heavier or more painful. Anyone thinking along these lines?

Constant feeding Like Lollipop I'm finding it very hard today. Diego has been at the nipple all day, and he will not settle down and sleep in between feeds. I don't know if I've run out of milk, although there seems to be some coming out. Why does he not get satisfied?

Am I a bad mother to feel a little bit claustrophobic? I adore him, but want to be able to shower, go to the loo, post in mumsnet or do a wash if I need to!

Thanks everyone on the thread for being so supportive and open.

xxx

pacita · 13/10/2008 17:59

Forgot to add, he'll be two weeks old tomorrow. Is this the famous growth spurt? And what's the best way to deal with it, just to be patient and continue to feed on demand?

ninja · 13/10/2008 18:04

lollipopmother it's the Irish spelling of Maeve (Mave) - DH is Irish.

Pacita Have a shower - if he's being that demanding I think sometimes for your sanity put him down and get in the shower - the sound of the water might even pacify him. Or buy a sling!

digitalgirl · 13/10/2008 18:08

Hi all,

DS and I had our 6 week check-up today and we're both doing well. DS is smaller than average but at 4kg is putting on weight steadily, which is good to hear.

DS slept very well last night. I was able to roll onto my back as he had moved away from me slightly - he normally has to be touching me to stay asleep...am hoping for a repeat performanc tonight but I know it's a lot to ask, no two nights are ever the same.

eandz I've been going to M&B groups for the past couple of weeks. I think the thing to do is turn up early before the groups get too established and sit yourself down to the woman whose baby looks about the same size as yours and just start chatting. The popular opening line in my area seems to be 'boy or girl?' followed by 'how old is he/she' and then maybe 'where did you give birth?'
You're such a chatty, warm-hearted person that I'm sure it won't take too long for you to meet some nice mums locally.

I still can't believe that I'm a mum and I have a son. He's turning into a real cutie these days!

foxytocin · 13/10/2008 18:18

Why does he not get satisfied? - he is telling your body to make more milk cause he is getting bigger.

Am I a bad mother to feel a little bit claustrophobic? nope it takes time to shift gears from chlidless. you didn't get comfy behind the wheels of a car at 2 weeks, right?

I adore him, but want to be able to shower, go to the loo, post in mumsnet or do a wash if I need to! ~~

in time, you may like me, learn to bf and have a poo at the same time nak
(nursing at keyboard~)

MunkiMom · 13/10/2008 18:22

lol sun ive experienced that on a couple occasions!

eandz motherhood is so very glamorous, isn't it? hell, im lucky if i have time to slap on a bit of mascara when going out!

righty, i've had a MW over today and they aren't going to sign me off just yet. will be seeing them once again in a weeks time. remember me going on about feeling butchered & botched? well...after the 2nd swabbing of the cut from last week, its come back with a positive result. an infection, none other than strep B! the MW was a little concerned and unsure about how i had it on my wound! and seemed a bit weird about me not being tested for it during pregnancy. however i got it in my c/s cut, ive been given anti-B's today to clear it up...

anyone ever hear of having it in a wound?

and if that wasn't enough, along with the mystery lump, i have noticed ds1 has been turning away from his food and snax since ds2 has arrived home from hospital. i gave him a rice cake for a snack earlier while dh was eating an early dinner. ds1 would look at dhh chewing or even his plate of snax and do a borking face, so dh ate in another room...taking the snax\with him. im going to attempt ds1's dinner now...and search for a thread about this topic...makes me so very for ds1.

MunkiMom · 13/10/2008 18:42

...oh, and wanted to add...
we're sticking with the name Toby, in the end. the uncertainty was driving us bonkers. but it seems to be growing on us.

i know its a duplicate, but its a good duplicate, none-the-less!!
Toby Linus. ;)

now...where's that registrar when i need him...?
