congtatulations pidge!!!

becaroo · 12/10/2008 19:06

Hi lolly - I know what you mean re: other children. My poor ds1 hasnt had much mummy time over the past 2 weeks I am sorry to hear about your mastitis - Hope its better now.

My ds2 was the same as yours too...would be on the breast for hours - 3 or 4 - and then guzzle 3 oz of formula. You just get to the stage when you think....."whats the point?"

Hope things are going well now x

izzybiz · 12/10/2008 19:18

Fantastic story pidge and what an ending to the september 2008 thread! xx

notcitrus · 12/10/2008 19:19

Yesterday was, definitely, a bad day. However SIL2 and 17-week-old were here as proof that it really does get better, assured me that A wasn't going to stop breathing just because he was finally asleep face down (oh noes!) in his deep fluffy pram muff (oh noes 2!).

In the evening we tested the breast pump and it looked promising -painless and stuff coming out. In the night I tried feeding lying down which I'd given up on a couple weeks ago, but now A is bigger with some head control, I managed it twice (although don't think he got a full feed, and the 3rd time he just wouldn't do it). Then this morning sterilised stuff +t ried pumping on the sore side, and 15 min later had 75ml of milk in a bottle. Unfortunately couldn't find the bit to cap the bottle to go in the fridge, but hey - had milk, had hungry baby, had daddy... A thought for a sec and then gobbled milk down!

So I'm now feeling that I can feed even if I have to express one side and only use the other. And this means other people can feed A while I nap! And it was a glorious day - SIL2 and I and babies went to the Common and had icecream and felt most yummy mummyish.

A is a month today. Hopefully these good days will become more common than the ones full of me crying in desperation...

MoonlightMcKenzie · 12/10/2008 19:22

Foxy Sorry you're going through a difficult phase. Did you always know your DH was going to go abroad or was it last minute?

That's a very sweet post Potxola

Right, - off to read Pidge's birth story and then I'll be back to open the free 72 hour bar!

carrieon · 12/10/2008 19:37

Hello all haven't quite got time to catch up fully, but just wanted to say to those ff that you are not failures! I switched to ff with dd after a few weeks and it was the most emotional decision for us, but the very very best one. And this time with ds is a completely different story and he's bf like a trouper, I can't believe the difference with a different child.
Also, for those expressing, I expressed all of dd's feeds for weeks and weeks (before starting the formula) and found that breast compression worked a treat. I got into a really good rhythm and could express 4oz off each side before dh had fed dd her bottle . So stick with it and compress compress to get things going!
We are so sleep deprived we're barely conscious, ds has an awake period between about 9 and 12 each night, and dd has been waking up at 5. Add to that the hour I'm up doing a middle of the night feed and its not a whole lot of sleep...but wonderful friends have just arrived with food, HOORAY!! [utter relief emoticon. Followed by hope-they-wash-up thoughts]

MoonlightMcKenzie · 12/10/2008 19:43

Oh Pidge Your birth story made me cry too!

Right, - who's for a glass of champagne?

DebitheScot · 12/10/2008 20:03

Great birth story and congrats pidge. The shakes at the end sound scary but at least you were prepared for them.

notcitrus I'm so glad you had a good day today and have had some reassurance about things getting better. Thats good too that you managed to express some milk too, sounds like you'll definitely benefit from a bit of rest that you can get with help feeding A.
I was struggling with feeding too for about the first 4 weeks- not as bad as you but was still in pain and also found it hard to cuddle ds2 due to sore nipples. But ds2 is 6 weeks old tomorrow and I@ve had no pain for about 2 weeks now. It seemed to just suddenly sort itself out. Helped a lot by ds2 having more control and better coordination. So it really does get better. You said yesterday that you think you might give some ff after 6 weeks but I wouldn't be surprised if you find that you don't need to because you've got it sussed out by then.

We had a busy day today, church this morning- where ds2 did the loudest burp ever in the middle of the sermon, it was hilarious, everyone around us turned round and people on the opposite side of church to us heard it! Then we went to ikea which was a bit epic, not helped by missing the turn off and having to do a 40 minute tour of Wembley to get back to the entrance. So we were very naughty and went to McDs on the way home.

DebitheScot · 12/10/2008 20:04

yes please moonlight I'll have some champagne.

ninja · 12/10/2008 20:19

Champagne sounds good - but I only have downmarket Cava in the fridge, will that do?

I'll have to find a way of saving the last couple of Anti-natal threads, they were compulsive reading

sunflower78 · 12/10/2008 20:41

mmmmm, you made me fancy some now, I'm sure the downmarket one would be good enough...

ninja - funny you said that, spent last night reading them, now that all the babies are here it's kind of funny reading our posts! Finally managed to koin the FB group, will try and upload some pics, if this computer stops crashing...

any news on hopefully?

eandz · 12/10/2008 20:49

no, now i'm getting worried about hopefully i was trying to give it a bit of time before i got too worried myself.

MoonlightMcKenzie · 12/10/2008 20:56

Does anyone have CAT?

carrieon · 12/10/2008 21:12

ninja you could try feeding while lying on your back - then your let-down is going against gravity. One of my friends swore by this. you could also hand express some milk down the sink, just to take the edge off it. HTH.

Kagey · 12/10/2008 22:27

Hi all,

Just wondered if anyone can help before I go bothering the community midwifes.

I had a C-section 24 days ago and now have a horrid ridge over the scar area. When I press on it, it feels quite hard especially on the right hand side and stomach quite bloated - is this normal??? Will it subside when I start excersising / eating less crap food??

I spoke to my Health Visitor on Friday and she did not seem to be able to answer me, and have been googling with no joy.

Any help really appreciated!!
Ta, KGx

bogie · 13/10/2008 08:31

I've got CAT

imoscarsmum · 13/10/2008 08:43

kagey I had a c-section about 3 weeks ago and I have a hard lump just above the middle bit of the wound. It has ben getting smaller and smaller over time and the mw says it is a lump of pooled blood that will gradually go away and is just due to the op (internal stiches). If you're worried, I'd pop to see your GP though.

Does anyone think their LO is growing too fast?? DD is only 3 weeks old but already it feels like the pregnancy was a life away (I find it hard to remember what the kicking felt like), my memories of labour are fading and someone mentioned looking into a newborns eyes - that makes me quite broody aready!! It's fab seeing DD progress but I wish she'd do it at a slower pace!

ninja · 13/10/2008 09:34

thanks carrieon i'll have a go at the lying down on back completely (i'm already fairly horizontal!!)

imoscarsmum yes lo growing FAR too fast. i never felt broody after dd1, but already wonder if there's any chance i could persuade dh to have another (there isn't!!)

BBaby · 13/10/2008 09:42

Hi

Are you all people that had babies in September or thereabouts? I was wondering if I could join. I'm on another forum but I need more to keep me entertained on my sofa-camp while I'm being held hostage by the baby mafia! lol

My little boy Nathaniel was born 2nd September weighing 9lbs. He is lovely but I have found it very hard adjusting to life as a new mum. His biggest problems (therefore mine to help him out with) are fighting sleep during the day - he doesn't like napping and wind.

Hope to get to know you all soon,

BBx

sunflower78 · 13/10/2008 09:58

imoscarsmum - yes!!! DD's growing soo fast, but I think because she's my second and in theory last baby, then it feels even faster. and though pregnancy this time round was more difficult and birth, though quick, put me off having anymore, I do feel sad I won't feel a baby kickng inside me again, but if I had another one I don't think I could go through with another VB...

MunkiMom · 13/10/2008 10:00

good morning, mums.
just a little update...this morning, the lump in the armpit seems to be a little smaller. and last night, i pumped from both boobs and stored them in 2 different containers. the milk from the "lump" side was more yellow than the other. now, i can't remember who mentioned they had a lump and yellow milk, but i'm hoping its related. ((the lump isnt sore and cant be seen on the surface of the skin, only felt it while shaving my forestry of the arms hehehe ))
on the other hand, it could very well just be my mind "telling" me what i want to hear/see...wi'' keep an eye on it over next couple days..and if no change, i'll definitely go to gp. so thanks to anyone who offered suggestions/advice.

on a happier note: Pidge !!!! it's such a lovely BS, perfect for ending the thread.

my ds2 is doing well. seems to sleep like a trooper! ds1 woke at every little noise, this one slept thru ds1 & a friend playing "marching band"!! drums and all! (((although, i cant say much for the headache i got from it )))

i'm going to phone the local day nursery in a wee bit. after seeing how he is when other kids are around, i think its in his best interest to have time around other children, regularly. not to mention, nice for me to be able to have a bit of sleep/baby/bonding/cleaning time. ;)

sunflower78 · 13/10/2008 10:00

BBaby - welcome!

mine tends to sleep a lot in the morning, can't keep her awake, and then doesn't want to sleep at night...

ninja · 13/10/2008 10:02

Hi BBaby the more the merrier!!

Can't help you on the sleep I'm afraid - my DD has hardle woken up! (MY last one was a non-sleeper but my memories are so blurred fom sleep deprevation I can't remember what I did). Does Nathaniel sleep in the prams - good long walks can sometimes help?

MunkiMom · 13/10/2008 10:04

Morning & Welcome BBaby!

Biggogglyeyes · 13/10/2008 10:08

bbaby - welcome

i remember when my dp used to take dd1 for a walk in the pram at 1 in the morning to get her to sleep as she went thru phases now and again of not sleeping or used to go up and down the motorway .....the things we used to do early hours in the morning.
