Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MadameOvary · 28/08/2008 19:09

I am so sleep deprived that i started feeding DD on the bed at 9.30, fell asleep and woke at 1.15, fully clothed, shoes still on.

scorpio1 · 28/08/2008 19:12

lol

you can go straight to food and skip the mush rice

here

MadameOvary · 28/08/2008 21:22

Heartfelt thanks to you too scorpio1! Brilliant pics of all those gorgeous messy babies!

SalLikesCoffee · 28/08/2008 22:00

MommyHasaH - we get Roelof's tomorrow as well! I might see you there then! So relieved. Unfortunately I've already bought the flights to SA (sale ending, so had to decide), so we can't go earlier, but on the upside, we can go somewhere else for a long weekend or something in the meantime.

I started taking my epilepsy meds yesterday morning, and for the first time in weeks I could sleep again (except for the waking up for feeds, but at least I could fall asleep before 3). The strange thing is I'm so tired now, but guessing it's my body catching up.

Our high chair arrived this morning, now just to nag dh into putting it together even though we don't actually need it yet. I also bought some weaning stuff at Sainsburys tonight, as they've got 1/3 off on all baby stuff (nappies etc if anyone needs) - might as well keep it in the cupboard until needed.

I've been all cry-y today, highly embarrassing. Even cried on the poor cleaner's shoulder, she must think I'm unstable (which would be a good guess, but preferably not to be shared with the general public!)

sagitta · 29/08/2008 09:59

Sal - I cried on dd1's nursery teacher's shoulder last week.

LadyBee - I threw all the caterpillars in the river - so I didn't directly kill them - only the ones that couldn't swim!

The problem with moving A is just that I don't want to spend all night getting out of bed - and there's two lots of stairs between where she would be and me, which always seems like a horribly long way when i get up for dd1!

All your babies sound so clever. DH thinks A has Parkinsons or is a bit stupid, because she sort of jerks a lot. I seem to remember that's quite normal for babies that are only just learning to hold their heads up - is that right, or do you think there's something wrong with her? I haven't been to the weigh-in or HV for weeks and weeks , so haven't got other babies to compare her to...She's three months and two thirds (sorry,. can't be bothered to work out in weeks) - what should she be doing?

sagitta · 29/08/2008 11:08

Just went to see the HV, and she weighs exactly what she should and is doing all the right things. Phew. Can tell DH to shut up now

LadyBee · 29/08/2008 12:01

I wonder if I could use the indirect killing argument with DP and set up some beer traps for the snails

How many times does A need attention in the night at the moment Sagitta? You never know, it might decrease if you moved her. Could give it a try for a few nights, but I understand the reluctance to increase movement in the night, was so happy last night that I've cracked the feeding lying down thing when I was able to haul DS out of his side-car thing, get him latched on and drift back to sleep, woke up about an hour later with him asleep but still attached, disengaged him and tucked him back in his own bed all without leaving my pillow. I now understand what all the fuss is about. (Just seemed peculiarly uncomfortable to me before).

DS is really really tetchy today, drooling all over the place, grabbing my fingers and ramming them into his mouth. Poor thing. Have done one half of powders, but doesn't seem to be doing much.

You know those teething things with liquid in them...what do you do with those? I was given a few, do I put them in the fridge before giving them to DS or do they just chew them like every other toy?

sagitta · 29/08/2008 12:18

Put them in the fridge for a bit, I think it numbs their gums a little.

Last night was great - she only fed once between 7 and 7.30am, so we might nearly be there. I am sure she would sleep better not in our room, but I am too scared to try in case I am wrong!

The beer trap is a good idea - and its a nice way to go for them...

Peachy · 29/08/2008 12:31

the teething granules we use work a treat- the nelsons one, morrisons we got them iirc

I oathe baby rice- its horid! we started bas on pear (least likely food of all to react to), then added tings from there- he now has apple, peach, berries, melon, avocado, butternut squash, carrot, potato, banana, courgette, parsnip, and tonght he's haning spinach (use combo's mainly)- also ave added touches of coriander, cnnamon and vanilla to get him used to flavours we eat. He has dairy free yoghurt for breakfast.

scorpio1 · 29/08/2008 12:54

sounds nice Peachy!!

LadyBee · 29/08/2008 12:57

I vaguely remember feeding what I think must have been baby rice to a kitten we got very early when I was a child, Farex I think it was called - very distinctive smell.
Who was it that said that they thought they'd do a mix of puree and finger food? That is what I think I'm leaning to too. I'm perfectly happy to follow DS's lead if he doesn't take the pureed stuff I offer him and plan to give him bits of my/our meals that are suitable (salt-wise, allergy-wise) if he happens to be around when we're eating, but that's so unlikely for dinner as he's in bed at 7-7:30 regularly now and DP rarely gets home before 8, we mostly eat around 9. So whatever he eats will be specially prepared rather than just part of our meal.
There's a bit of me that kind of WANTs to faff with steaming, mushing etc, because "that's what mummies do" , oh and reserve the right to disown that statement two weeks into it when I'm bored of doing it

So do those who know think it's an all or nothing thing? Is it there a weaning equivalent to nipple confusion?

LadyBee · 29/08/2008 13:02

Oh wanted to add, it's not just an urge to squish food that was prompting me, but also I have a feeling I'll be a bit control freaky about wanting to know what/how much DS has eaten, so if I'm giving him a small portion of mashed something and then also offering food for him to feed himself I think I'll soothe that part of me, hopefully while also allowing him to explore and learn about eating food.

scorpio1 · 29/08/2008 13:03

imo a mixture will be fine, and is most common i think.

make batches of mush food and freeze in trays or bags, saves time maybe get a book for ideas.

scorpio1 · 29/08/2008 14:38

Grr

Why do forms only have one initial space - So Millie G Cxxxxxx? instead of Millie G J Cxxxxxx?

I want to nick Jessamy if i have another dd anyway....

OMaLittle · 29/08/2008 14:47

HELLO GIRLS! thanks for the shout-out, LadyBee, strangely enough I was thinking about you today as I drove up the A3! Think about all you girls loads.

Sagitta - great to have you back. Was wondering where you were. Very angry you have left me foundering in my more-than-once-a-night club, though. (No, not that. That's lucky if it's more than once a month week.)

Scorpio, let me know about Monday. Am in all day so it's no worries. Just need to find a big box...

Been away at Dad's then Mum's as DH was in Libya again for work. It's SO hard doing all the packing/loading/unpacking/setting up/packing/loading etc. And I do find it difficult when anyone apart from DH helps me as it takes so much explaining. Plus Mum has a VERY different pace of life. I also had a horrific cold (girls have had it too) so have been quite a grumpy cow, but hey, they're my parents and have to love me. My stepmother doesn't but luckily I was just getting ill the day I was there.

Bit worried I have poisoned DD1 as I miscalculated and fed her spag bol for lunch which was put in fridge (freshly cooked, but still...) on MONDAY thinking it was two days old [how did I get a maths degree? emoticon]. I tasted it and it was fine... could put paid to our camping weekend, though. We shall see. Strangely enough it's DD2 who is uncharacteristically pukey today.

DD2 doing OK - awful nights on Sunday/Monday (every hour /Tuesday but that aside (cold??) she has been predictably waking twice (between 10.30 and 12 and between 2 and 3.30) and sleeping till between 7 and 8! Moreover, and brilliantly, she has now at least 10 times been put down swaddled and awake and gone to sleep without a peep.

Must go and change my shirt as I stink of sick [infallibly sophisticated and glamorous emoticon]. Back anon.

PortAndLemon · 29/08/2008 14:52

Beer traps are just giving the slugs a treat. It's not your fault if they aren't responsible drinkers...

Official advice is now to combine purees and finger foods anyway (although from sound of things on MN not all HVs are up to date).

What form's that, scorpio? I've never come across anything that I can't fit all of the DCs' names on.

scorpio1 · 29/08/2008 14:58

OMa - i emialed you, they will be there between 2 and 6

Thankyou so much

scorpio1 · 29/08/2008 15:01

Holiday insurance form, from the post office. Wanted 2 initials and then surname. There was another thing i couldn't fit her name on too, but cannot remember what it was.

sagitta · 29/08/2008 15:27

HI Omalittle, was wondering where you were too. Don't worry, last night, I'm sure, was a one-off. Will be back in the more-than-once-a-night club soon. (Like you say, not the same more-than-once-a-night club as, say, Scorpio!)

I too have to change. Was Just doing "Zoom, zoom zoom, going to the moon" thing and LO puked - in style - right down my shirt and into my bra. Lovely.
When will I learn that she's a really puky baby and I should not play with her soon after eating?

scorpio1 · 29/08/2008 15:32

Mimi was sick all over my boob today. So glamorous.

LadyBee · 29/08/2008 16:15

What is it with the LOs today? We had a near projectile puke today, a mis-timed cough and puke coincided so that the milky mess shot out with more speed and force than I've seen before, all over our leather sofa. Am pleasantly surprised how well they clean up though.

OMaLittle, I'm officially back in the more than once a night club, I've been doing the dreamfeed between 10-11:30 again because I got fed up with him waking me at 2 and then again at 5 and then not going back to sleep.
I keep hoping that by giving him really good feed he'll just go straight through to 7, I'm sure he could, but he's been waking at around 4 most mornings. He feeds and goes back to sleep though at that time so it's not so bad...unless I have to change him. Then it takes a while to convince him that it isn't morning and he isn't going to play with dad.

What's the story with giving them water during the night? VS, was it you who was suggesting that? or Scorpio? One of you with sleepier babies please tell me what to do?

PAL, If the snails are so unlucky as to not be able to avoid my creative alteration of their environment (it's enrichment, really), it probably is because of previous ungenerous actions on their part towards the seedlings.

scorpio1 · 29/08/2008 16:27

LadyBee - the thing with the water is, is that its not as nice as BM, therefore discourages them from waking, but offers them a drink if they are thirsty - also you will soon know if its hunger or not.

In the night - no talking, looking, singing, nappy (unless you have to), put them back in their own bed straight away.

LadyBee · 29/08/2008 16:28

I've enrolled for swimming lessons with DS. He's going to go underwater like the baby on the nirvana album. Am very excited.
Except for prospect of me being in swimming costume.

LadyBee · 29/08/2008 16:32

ok, so when he wakes, I offer him some water, if he gets annoyed with me I know he really is hungry?
Will be interesting to see whether the sucking on the bottle will be comforting to him - he's started wanting to suck on my finger (won't take a dummy) to go off to sleep recently.

LadyBee · 29/08/2008 16:35

gosh I'm chatty today aren't I.

Sagitta, just wanted to say that I read your post "put them in the fridge" as referring to the snails and thought "gosh, that's very humane, have heard of putting lobster in freezer in before cooking, but cooling snails?"

Then I realised.
