KnitterInTheNW · 27/09/2008 08:47

I was in bed, Sal, and had been for nearly an hour!

I was very proud of myself yesterday, a friend and I went for a swim in the afternoon and left our boys (3 weeks apart in age) in the creche at the leisure centre. That was a huge thing for me, I've only ever left George with DH and occasionally with my mum for half an hour. He was fine, there were 2 creche ladies and just the 2 babies, so they got lots of attention and probably didn't even notice we'd gone! Creche very good too as you tell them what time you're coming to get the babies, they get their cossies etc on for that time so all we had to do was put a towel and flip flops on and go to fetch them for our normal friday afternoon swim after we'd had our 'proper' swim. I was achey afterwards, I haven't been for a swim in over a year! Worrying about abandoning my baby aside, I really enjoyed it and they're booked in again for same time next week.

Our highchair arrived on Wednesday, and I love it! It's this one. He's not sitting well enough for long enough to have his meals in it yet (he's having lunch and tea now, and is 27 weeks) but he loves sitting in it in the kitchen while I'm getting his food ready.

KnitterInTheNW · 27/09/2008 08:49

Oh, and I've got to contact the nanny agencies this week to start the search for a job... I'm lucky that I should be able to find a job where I can take George with me. I just don't want to, I want to stay at home with my boy!

SaintPeachy · 27/09/2008 11:17

I know what you mean knitter- still at home until next August but lready dreading it! Pathetic huh? mind, my first year will be very intensive- 8 - 5, then all te essyas / assignements that go with a FT course to do on top.

But if I qualify not only do I do a job I ant for once but I will get holidyas etc with him (but no chance of things like seeing nativity plays- except have dropped hints to DH about subby teaching after NQT year and dh seems amenable- his job post qualification will inebtiable mean down times and time away, so I can work when he's in the country iyswim)

SalLikesCoffee · 27/09/2008 13:19

That sounds lovely, Knitter. I've got that chair too, R loves it. I was worried about spending that much on something where a perfectly fine alternative was available for a lot cheaper, but I can honestly say it's our best buy so far. It's also nice that not only does it fit over our dining table, so he can join us, but we can also use it independantly (e.g. he likes sitting in it when I clean up in the kitchen, as he's my level and his toys is with him).

Peachy, that does sound rough, but then again, as you say, it's something you really want to do. My last job was like that - hardest I've ever worked, but I didn't mind at all, as I loved every second of it. Really impressed with you planning to do the course on top!!!

Friends coming over for lunch in a second, so I guess I have to hide my addiction laptop now. Secretly impressed with myself as have a really nice menu planned. However, might still flop, so will save my bragging / avoiding the topic for later. Wish me luck.
PS: I've got clean hair, make-up and painted toe-nails!!!

KnitterInTheNW · 27/09/2008 18:06

I don't envy you working full time AND having all the essays etc to do, Peachy.

How did your lunch go, Sal? Clean hair, make up AND painted toe nails? Did you get a photo to proveto yourself that it is possible?!

George demonstrating his new highchair with a stick of celery

I know, it was expensive, but I think worth every penny!

KnitterInTheNW · 27/09/2008 18:07

The highchair that is, not the celery...

Denny185 · 27/09/2008 20:10

Ahhhh, and the hair gets bigger . V fancy highchairs dont think I could get another I already have a buggy addiction DH would go made if it extended to high chairs too.

We got a wii fit to help me try and loose weight but here I am MNing and DD1 has taken over the fit think I need to go kick her off Im sure its bedtime anyway.

Well done on the swimming BTW knitter, I use the creche at our leisure centre (have done since DS) but I just go for a coffee and some me time.

KnitterInTheNW · 27/09/2008 20:31

I think we should do our next meetup at your house then Denny, then I can have a play!

Meant to ask you, have you been to JJs in Macc? We've been a couple of times and it's brilliant. JJs

SalLikesCoffee · 27/09/2008 22:49

Well, lunch turned out really nice and ended in our friends staying until 9, so a great day all in all. R's been a little angel, I should invite friends over more often if that's how he'll act!

Knitter, damn, I forgot to take a pic - now no-one will believe me...

Wii Fit. Well. It's great, we got one a couple of weeks ago. Except... I haven't really been using it after those first couple of days. I've got one month left until I go on holiday, so maybe I should make an effort. Denny, want to join me in a Wii-support group???

LadyBee · 28/09/2008 09:37

Hooray!! Pregnant Friend no.2 had her baby last night at 11pm by c-section, still to hear all details but they have a beautiful baby boy, 8 lb 3, born at 41 + 4. Am chuffed for her and feeling all gooey about my lovely boy too

KnitterInTheNW · 28/09/2008 10:14

Right... am preparing for MIL's visit this afternoon. I can't stand the woman. The visit will go exactly like this, because they all do:

she arrives.
she says 'he's nice isn't he' (WTF? nice???)
I offer her a drink
she refuses
she sits on the edge of the sofa
I offer her George
she sits him on her lap facing away from her, not talking to him or anything apart from the odd feeble 'hello'
he understandably gets fidgety and squirmy
she says 'you'd better go back to your mum'
she tells me what her cats have been up to
she goes home again

sometimes (well twice since G was born) has asked for an up to date photo so she can show the girls at oxfam, because they've been asking to see one. They've never taken a photo of him, FIL has never held him or spoken to G directly.

Last sunday MIL phoned to ask to come & see G. I say yes. She says she's waiting for a phonecall from her sister, I say no probs see you when we see you. She calls back no more than 30 mins later to say that she's not coming, she's doing gardening while the sun's out. The sun had also been out 30 mins earlier when she rang to see if she could come over.

She makes me want to scream!!!

Sodding DH has gone flying so I have to endure this on my own.

AAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH

KnitterInTheNW · 28/09/2008 10:17

What p's me off most is that the PILs live 20 mins drive away. They are NO help whatsoever. My lovely mum and dad live 2 hours drive away and are fantastic with George, and whatever else needs doing. A couple of weeks ago they came up just to have G while I had a 20 min dentist appt. Permission to be very very frustrated and fed up, please!

LadyBee · 28/09/2008 10:46

Granted.

LadyBee · 28/09/2008 10:47

what odd behaviour. Do you think she was like that with her own children? Sounds like they just don't get babies, but it's a bit sad that they can't get any joy from their darling grandchild

KnitterInTheNW · 28/09/2008 10:53

Thankyou! Yes, odd behaviour. And odd people. I (and my mum) can't work out how she's like that after having 2 children of her own. DH's sister is fairly odd too, but is certainly more 'normal' than her parents.

MIL has even said to G, 'you'll know your other grandma better than you'll know me'. SO DO SOMETHING BOUT IT THEN YOU SILLY COW!!!

hee hee... this feels great being able to get it off my chest!

SalLikesCoffee · 28/09/2008 15:04

Knitter, hope it's going well this afternoon. She sounds scared of babies tbh. I wonder if she's just forgotten how it was with hers or whether she had some issues when they were small too. No less annoying for you, but rather strange, sounds as if something's up.

I'm slightly pissed off with Moorfields Eye Hospital, as they told me to come in with my referral letter from the Optician (I told them over the phone that I haven't been to gp yet and if that wasn't necessary!), only for me to be told today that no, I need to see a specialist dept and would therefore need to get my gp's stamp on the referral letter from optician first! I don't mind the wait, it's not that urgent after all, but it does annoy me that me, dh and R had to treck into town this morning, just to find out it was a wasted trip. Urgh. So now have to go to gp's to get stamp and THEN book in at glaucoma dept. I shouldn't really moan, it looks and sounds like a brilliant eye hospital, I'm just tired and being sent around the place with a crying baby not really my idea of fun. Will calm down and acknowledge that I'm ungrateful in a second.

Have to go, R crying again, poor thing still has his cold.

KnitterInTheNW · 28/09/2008 16:30

Moorfields is the best Sal, my last but one nanny boss was doing her final training there. (She's a consultant now) and rich people from all round the world fly in to see the eye doctors there. It'll be worth all the hassle in the end.

SalLikesCoffee · 28/09/2008 16:37

Thanks Knitter. I have calmed down and feel fittingly embarrassed about my earlier sulk now. It is amazing actually that such excellent care is available freely.

KnitterInTheNW · 28/09/2008 19:50

If you can't have a sulk and a moan here though, where can you?

SalLikesCoffee · 28/09/2008 20:35

Knitter. How did the inlaws visit go?

Sitting here drinking a lovely Klein Constantia dessert wine, dreaming of quiet nights, dark skies with bright stars, quiet beaches... Oh man, I'm homesick!

KnitterInTheNW · 28/09/2008 21:15

It was... surprisingly ok!

She still didn't have a drink and didn't stay long, but ahe was a bit chatty and even said a couple of things to George. FIL didn't come as usual though. It won't stop me getting on edge about the next visit though!

I get homesick sometimes Sal, and I only live 100 miles away! The wine sounds lovely. When were you last there?

SalLikesCoffee · 28/09/2008 21:57

That's good to hear, shame about fil, but then again, they sound like hard work, so maybe better only having one at a time!

It's been ages since I've been home - around 2 years ago! I was supposed to go a year ago, but lost my passport and had to wait 4 months for a replacement (damn SA government!) and then got too busy for a long break at work, bla bla bla. At least I'm going in just over a month now - am SO excited. AND I'm there for a month! My mom has visited twice in the meantime though, but can't wait to see the others and of course the country (ignoring the shambolic political situation) again.

We're spending time with our families as well of course, but will be spending a couple of days on our own. Spending one night in Addo, then two nights wherever we get along this inland route, and then again 2 in Cape Town. Planning to visit vineyards and good restaurants all the time and come back as an (even bigger) elephant!

Denny185 · 28/09/2008 22:07

Evening sorry 4 late reply knitter, no I havnt been to JJs keep meaning to go and never quite get round to it (how crap is that when its just down the road). Next meet up we could go there? Or come here and we can jump about like ijuts on the Wii fit will text/email u over the next couple of days to sort a date out. Glad MIL visit went ok.

Sal Im still in the honeymoon period with the fit Im sure it will wear off but ive been doing 30-60 mins a day since we got it. Decided not to put it away as if I had to get it out every day it wouldnt happen. This is my bloody hell i havnt lost any weight 4 ages realisation and certainly cant be doing with a diet unless i absolutely have to. R the scales on yours accurate?

Had a lovely weekend, Dh has been on earlies so not been around during the day. Yesterday we had a lazy day playing games, drawing, face painting and out in garden and today been over at M+Ds scrummy roast dinner and came home just in time for bath/bed.

Been busy since we got home clearing window sills (its amazing how much crap u can collect on them) ready for fitters to come and put new ones in tomorrow. Debating whether or not to stay out for the duration, envisaging that it will be noisey, dusty and cold. Will see what it brings i think.

Denny185 · 28/09/2008 22:09

Sorry xpost sal, looks like u r going to be having a busy time when u go back home, isnt it R christening as well?

LadyBee · 28/09/2008 22:10

I might be going back to NZ after all!!
Had a long chat with DP this afternoon and we decided that there probably wouldn't be a better time to do it, even though it'll be tight financially. So I'm back on the passport chore tomorrow and will be searching for a flight.

Someone has swapped my baby who needs lots of help to go to sleep with one who suddenly seems to know how to go to sleep by himself. It's amazing. Am trying not to get too excited about it as I'm sure tomorrow he'll be back to his old ways but today I got a glimpse of what he might be able to do more regularly

I still miss having DS sleeping next to me, but am enjoying the freedom to read in bed. But I do find getting out and going to feed him in the night hard going...does anyone else feel sort of nauseous feeding at night? I'm fine when I start but after he's been feeding for a while I start feeling quite sick-y. Can't tell whether it's just wanting to be asleep or whether it's something else?
