Ah, apparently I won't CAT you a link as you've got your options set to not accept CATs...

SalLikesCoffee · 24/09/2008 18:21

Oops, sorry . Changed now, so if you're around again

Great website - sounds perfect. Off to read some more on it now, thanks.

SalLikesCoffee · 24/09/2008 19:31

Quick question to those of you who've done it before: Is it worth going away somewhere close (so therefore quite cold) over Christmas with an almost 9-month old, or are you better off staying at home? Because we're coming back from SA at the end of Nov, I don't want to go somewhere far, but wouldn't mind a couple of days away. BUT - is this practical? We don't have any family around, so will be just the 3 of us wherever we are.

LadyBee · 24/09/2008 21:06

good timing Sal, I was wondering this very thing. We won't have a holiday this year, and I've always fancied going to Hay on Wye as I am a book obsessive (even if I no longer actually read them) and I'd quite like to try to find a cottage to rent there for the Christmas week. Surely if I find one with cot and so on, it would be a fairly easy holiday?

Peachy · 24/09/2008 21:14

Ladybee, we're not far from Hay if you get stuck or need a coffe or anything

We're staying home this Christmas- first time evrer. Partly as ds3 getting a bike so hard to hide in the car lol, partly because we're evil parents who want to drag them off to Church to stop the present obsessing - but also they're an age where it's nice to be just the family for a day. The |Eve we will spend in a big family do, maybe boxing day and day after Mum comes here- so busy.

When they are little though, not only is it such a precious time its the time its focussed on the family rather than getting x or y.

Find somewhere nice, home or away, have only those you want, eat what you want (we're having lobster ) and build a few precious memories

LadyBee · 24/09/2008 21:34

the fan museum is great, I've been thinking about that one for a while, but it's not licensed for civil ceremonies so we'd need to find somewhere else to do the actual ceremony - whether that was woolwich register office (which is quite pretty but woolwich not so lovely), or another venue that is licensed (there are a few around greenwich). It did just occur to me tonight, that we could possibly get the legal stuff done beforehand and then have a humanist ceremony at the venue, which would suit both of us I think.
Will email them tomorrow. Definitely.
I did contact a couple of other places.

LadyBee · 24/09/2008 21:35

PAL

LadyBee · 24/09/2008 21:39

Peachy, be careful what you offer...I may well take you up on that

SalLikesCoffee · 24/09/2008 21:44

PAL, just saw the profile pic - brilliant!

PortAndLemon · 24/09/2008 21:55

You may have trouble booking a cottage for Christmas at this notice -- we looked around vaguely before deciding to sty home this Christmas, and most places seemed to be booked.

SalLikesCoffee · 24/09/2008 21:57

Hmm, I wonder what to do then (re holiday). When at home I guess you've got all your stuff around etc, but knowing dh and myself I fear we won't be doing it "properly" (like how it used to be at home - food enough to feed 5 small armies, singing Christmas songs around the tree, going to Christmas service in the middle of the night (ok, would quite happily skip the midnight one)). I guess we could force ourselves to do it "right" for Roelof's sake, but previous Christmases and New Years' that we've been here alone, we ended up painting the walls!!! Never really felt properly Christmassy, and neither of us into partying for New Years.
Hmm, thinking back the Christmas in China ordering something in a "restaurant" with no menus or English being spoken didn't exactly feel Christmassy either, but at least memorable, lol!

SalLikesCoffee · 24/09/2008 22:01

Ah, x-post there. Oh well, at least that decides it then. Will have a quick look, but if nothing, then I'm having a tree this year!

VictorianSqualor · 25/09/2008 00:15

Just a quickie.
Scorpio's laptop has broken but she is fine, and OMa, I think it's six months in the freezer check www.kellymom.com

Morning all, Im taking kids to mums 4 xmas day this year as DH has got a promotion and is now back on shift and has to work xmas day and boxing day. I could stay home with them but lazyness says I cant be arsed to sort pressies (trying to release tiny little toys from the cardboard then the plastic and then the tie wraps and repeat) and cook a mound of food by myself. Last year it took 2 of us 2 hours to unpackage toys and sort packaging for recycling. Oh the joy of xmas. Roll on boxing day

I reckon if you just have one child enjoy a nice peaceful xmas while it lasts. BTW if you can book somewhere, easier to do while little and only a few gifts to transport.

LadyBee · 25/09/2008 10:17

Oh that's good. Not about the laptop, obviously, but that she's ok herself.

Quick question, can someone please outline what happens with breastfeeding when I start to give solids. The HV said to just feed as normal but to start giving at one meal a day, usually lunch first, but I normally wouldn't be feeding at lunchtime, i.e. 12 ish - he'd normally get fed twice in the morning, around 7 and then again around 8:30, like a little top up, and then we'd normally feed again around 11ish. and then normally not again until around 2-3.30, then there is feeding probably around 5:30 before bath and again just before he goes to bed around 7, like another top-up.

At least, this has been his pattern for the last little bit.

So do I add in extra 'meals' and just continue on? Or do I do a bit of solid stuff in the middle of the 11ish feed - or does he have an early 'lunch' and then do I feed after?

Huh, not so quick...this is all advance mental preparation for me - like to go in to these things feeling like I know what I'm going to do and at the moment just feel a bit very confused.

VictorianSqualor · 25/09/2008 10:25

Whenever you want LadyBee. It's only school/work days that make people think lunchtime needs to be at noon

What feed of his would you class as his lunchtime feed? Break it down to breakfast at 7, snack at 8:30 and then what? 11ish lunchtime? or snack and 2ish lunchtime? I'd probably go 11ish-lunchtime, then 2-3ish, snack, 5pm teatime and 7pm bedtime feed.

Just work out where his feeds fit in his day. He isn't up at 7, working 9-5, and going to bed at 11pm like many adults, so his food times are totally different.

OMaLittle · 25/09/2008 10:31

Great news about Scorpio, was thinking about her this am and about to dig out her number like a stalker!

Would love to answer your question, LB, but I remember that being the most confusing thing about solids, and don't remember how it worked out in the end! I suspect we just fell in with nursery's routine (though I was providing all her guiltily homecooked organic food!).

What is going on with my boobs? Yesterday morning I fed at 5, expressed at 7.30 and got 6oz no worries (from boob I fed with at 5). This morning, got up, fed DD2 3oz from a bottle (stuff I took out of freezer yesterday, did smell a bit funny), then more from left boob. Express right boob and what do I get? ONE MEASLY OUNCE! And I've had more sleep, breakfast, loads of water... so annoying! So yesterday I managed to ADD 6oz to total milk supply, today have depleted it by 5oz!! Don't really expect any help but just wanted to vent. Has my milk been reabsorbed or what??

VictorianSqualor · 25/09/2008 10:40

Oh also, re the solids.

You give them a milk feed, then after that you give them their lunch. They will still need all the nutrients they get from milk for a good few months yet. They say that 'Food until one is just for fun'.

Morning all - I´m back Started back at work this week so am on stupid work computer, which means can only type a couple of lines. We´ve now got a computer at home but not connected to internet yet. How are you all?

Hiya Soph
Nice to see you back.

Sam is absolutely loving his nursery, which is great, it´s just me that´s finding it difficult. Some days I barely see him at all as by the time we´ve got home it´s bath and bed. Haven´t read all the posts but wanted to ask what was wrong with Scorpio?

Soph73 · 25/09/2008 11:09

Nice to be back VS

Denny185 · 25/09/2008 11:11
