Still no teeth here, but another cold, sneezing and coughing again, poor thing.

Health warning: Rant follows

I lost it last night (well, this morning) with DP . DS had woken at 4:30 snuffling and moaning, so fed him and then went to look for the olbas oil and couldn't find it anywhere..it has grown legs and walked. Became convinced that DP must have moved it, and started the seething, made worse by the fact that I was using my mobile phone as a torch so as not wake up DS more than he was, but it only gives out light for about 2 seconds so had to keep sliding open and shut to maintain light, so getting more and more pissed off with that . Making more noise and huffing and puffing so DS starts thinking it's time to play and starts waving legs around and coughing more, and all through this, DP is snoring away like a chainsaw. Doesn't even stir.
Finally I give up on the oil, try to convince DS that really it is time to sleep not play, and DP has shuffled over onto my side of the bed and is still snoring. So I have chuckling DP on one side, snoring DS on the other and about 6 inches of bed to lie on. It all got too much very quickly and with a loud 'ohforchrissake!' I gave DP a big shove and push and then thumped huffily back down on the pillow. He just mumbled, rolled over and started snoring again after 5 mins.
Woke up still in a huff, and discovered that DP was about to leave the house, hadn't changed DS or spend any time with him as he usually does, with the excuse that he'd switched his alarm off for five more mins and then overslept, so didn't have time.
Nice to have the option.
And it would be nice to be able to sleep through the night time adventures, wouldn't it?
grrrrrrrr
Next time I am going to do this:
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up
wake up

until he gets up and helps me. Just once.

I feel better now. I think.

LadyBee · 19/09/2008 10:36

on the bbc today, another study to worry about link

Peachy · 19/09/2008 11:17

If you dont give paracetamol, their temperatures can rocket when ill and cause brain damage- give me asthma any time!

There's always nurofen (well in 3 weeks- 6 months is it?)

Peachy · 19/09/2008 11:17

[[http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1373/608769 oh forgot to link to my boys dancing last weekend]

Peachy · 19/09/2008 11:18

oops

MommyHasaHeadache · 19/09/2008 11:31

Hee hee Peachy - they looked FAB!! Great costumes! And what a fantastic float - is that the one your DH has been working so hard on?

I feel your pain LadyBee. Gigi was up at 1:30am - don't know why - she had a big dream feed at 10:30pm. She mucked about until about 2:30am when I relented and gave her another feed - which she finished and then went back to sleep. I however was now wide awake and remained so until around 4:30am. YAWN. Meanwhile DH snored the night away in his happy little world of not having to get up. Grr.

And the paracetamol thing - great another thing to add to our list of worries.

Enough of this day already - oh and it is only 11:30am!

VictorianSqualor · 19/09/2008 11:42

Hey people!
I'm back.
Move went fine, only just got internet, which we don't even think we are meant to have yet
Have got a lovely calm little routine going on that carved itself and am feeling really chilled.
Alex was really sick last night though, projectile vomited everywhere at his dreamfeed, but he then slept through!!!!!!!!!![grin ]

welcome back VS. been quiet without you

OMaLittle · 19/09/2008 12:19

Welcome back VS! Been thinking of you as I HATE moving house and the most kids I've ever done it with was one... actually, hang on, no I was on a work trip to Asia when we moved here (coincidence, naturally ) so I've only ever done it with NO kids and that was stressful enough!

Know what you mean about enough of this day, MHaH - we have already had naughty step for throwing lego at little sister, big sis kept getting off so I hurriedly chucked DD2 in the bouncy chair and fastened one clip, only for her to hurt herself a lot more by falling out of it . Quite pleased DD1 didn't tell me I should be on the naughty step too! Don't have the energy to explain the difference between 'on purpose' and 'by accident/through neglect' today - up every hour last night, cold, I think.

LadyBee, I feel your pain, too. I was wondering yesterday if I will ever forgive DH for not getting up in the nights!

Thanks SO much for the SA tips, sounds like a winner. Already found a great place on that website (in Hout Bay) so now just have to check DH definitely has the time off work and get some flights. Sal, thanks for that advice, had come to same conclusion so put the expedia search onto 'direct only' so my inner tightwad wouldn't force me to go via Frankfurt and Tripoli.

No buggy yet - what a day to be kept inside on! I must say my friend's baby (Arlo, what a cute name) has been a great talisman (? is that what I mean?) for the weather!

PEACHY - what a tribe of cuties!

VictorianSqualor · 19/09/2008 13:21

It's Alex's baptism on sunday, MiL is preparing most of the buffet but I have to do drinks, bread, cold meats and sweets.

I only want to spend £20ish on the meats. How would you do it? buy the joints and cook them or get the butcher to do it?

OP posts:
TheShipsCat · 19/09/2008 13:48

Welcome back VS. I hope the move wasn't too awful. I'd rather go through labour again than move house....
I'd buy the joints and cook them...

I think hope neurofen is from 3 months - cos I've given it to A a couple of times. So maybe try that if you don't like the sound of asthma.

It's been really hectic here, been in London, norwich, baby sitting for a friend's 6-wk old. And DD1 has realised that its much easier to poo in your pants than use the toilet. Next door's kitten is staying with us for a while, and it poos about four times a day. So I am on a poo strike for the weekend - its all DH's job from this evening onwards.
A still not sleeping. hey ho. But thanks for the sleep tips...

SalLikesCoffee · 19/09/2008 14:10

Welcome back, VS!

Peachy, your ds's look brilliant, and what an amazing float. Wow.

Woke up this morning to another tooth! So now two middle bottom teeth, hehe. No wonder the poor thing was so difficult lately.

Sorry to hear about the difficult nights. Here ok - fed at 12, then again at 5:50, so a great improvement. I'm now convinced it's because dh chats to him in secret at night, so might ask him to do the 12 one, and then I'll do the others in a normal night. If he's ill we can take turns again.

Roelof's Friday mornings nursery officially started today, and they showed me the pics of him devouring spinach, was so funny. Apparently not only did he almost pull the spoon out of their hands in his eagerness to get it to his mouth, he also sucked every last bite off the spoon. Hahaha, in his world food rules! He also had his morning nap (I stayed around till he was asleep to check if all was ok), so maybe previous trouble was just the new surroundings (and other babies obviously more interesting than boring old mom).

Dh arrived back this morning, and brought me the coolest Monkey necklace, and these earrings. I feel so guilty, he really spoils me. Hmm, wonder if I'll burn the flat down if I try and bake him a cake...

Sorry VS, not advice on meats, but would assume if you did it yourself it might work out cheaper. I'd probably have bought it cooked, but only because I don't trust myself in doing it properly. At our Christening my mom and sister will do the cooking (I'll do salads, that's safe ).

Good luck with all the poorly babies!

OMaLittle · 19/09/2008 15:07

Get a ham and boil it in coca cola (maybe stick some cloves in first?) then roast it. I think. Check the internet but it's something like that. Delicious. Would also just roast loads of chicken legs/thighs, could rub on some marinade roughly first (any or all of: olive oil, paprika, chicken seasoning, garlic, lemon rind, tarragon). Then maybe mini sausages from the butcher?

Just put together the buggy. Was SO thick about it. Took me over an hour! Still don't quite get how to collapse it... we'll see. We are going out the minute P wakes up!

SalLikesCoffee · 19/09/2008 15:20

Oma - ooh cool! Well, at least you've only had it for an hour and don't know how to collapse it... I've had my buggy for almost six months and still doesn't know . Will have to do a crash course before I go away in Nov.

Re flights: If you decide to buy, have a look directly on BA's and Virgin's sites as well before you book on expedia. Last couple of times we've booked I've found the prices the same or slightly cheaper on their own websites, and if anything goes wrong, they're normally more willing to change your tickets or help if it wasn't done through another company.

TheShipsCat - Neurofen's fine from 3 months, just checked.

TheShipsCat · 19/09/2008 15:29

Cool pics, Peachy!

I also meant to say Suze - really sorry to hear about DH's job etc. I really hope he can find another, or that you find a contract. What exactly do you do? I think we may be in a similar business, but can't quite remember

EllieG · 19/09/2008 21:33

Helllloooo [ellie's voice echoes into the void]

Hope you are all ok - I keep missing everyone.

Glad move went well VS

Sorry about your DH job suze

Good news about tooth sal

I feel for you ladybee - DD has a cold too. Funny how it's mummy has to sort it out eh - my DH snores through it all too

Oh crap, she's woken up. Must go catch up later x

SalLikesCoffee · 19/09/2008 22:01

Hehehe, laughed at your post Ellie!

Good luck with dd's cold.

Have to go now, as have 10 mini chocolate eclairs waiting and dh suspiciously close.

SuzeM · 20/09/2008 08:08

Good morning ... DD woke at 5.30 (funny, DH didn't hear her either ), I fed her and thought she'd give us all a lie-in but no, she was singing loudly at 7.30. The girl doesn't know it but she is perilously close to being put in her own room!

Peachy, your boys are gorgeous and what great costumes.

VS, enjoy the christening. You will have lovely weather for it.

Sal, if your DH goes to the US on an intra-company transfer (L1 visa), then you will be on an L2, which allows you to work anywhere. I was on an H1B (my company sponsored me). I would move to SF tomorrow!

Thanks all for the sympathy about DH's job. Sagitta, I am a technical writer. I contacted people at the last company I worked at but they have just taken someone else on. I am keeping an eye out but for the moment DH will concentrate on finding a new job while I mind DD. Maybe my agency can find me some editing work I can do from home.

I am so angry at the way Lehman have treated their staff in London. They will get paid for September and then that is it. Staff in NY are keeping their jobs (for now) and will even get their bonuses. There was a company wide meeting yesterday and someone asked what happened to the "one company" policy they bleated on about for years and would the staff in the US like to share their bonuses with their London colleagues. The London staff fell about laughing while the New Yorkers mumbled what a sad situation it was and how they are the victims of mismanagement. Barclays don't want the section DH works in (fixed income). OK, now I promise I won't talk about it again!

SalLikesCoffee · 20/09/2008 11:26

Suze, thanks for the visa info, that's good to hear.

I'm shocked to hear about the unfair treatment. So much for the US lot actually caring, they can save their fake sympathy! Grrrr, I'm furious for your sake. And talk about it as much as you like. I actually thought about you a lot recently, but didn't want to ask in case you'd rather not talk about it again.

I've woke up in sweats all night and now feel as it I've been hit by a train. I suspect it's just a cold, but sit here feeling sorry for myself, complaining about my flu attack. I'm turning into a man and need to get a grip.

LadyBee · 20/09/2008 22:04

Oh poor you Sal, does sound like a big ol' virus hitting you hard.

Suze, it's rubbish. Such a rubbish situation and completely crap that they're doing different deals for the US and UK offices. Talk about it all you want, we're here for your venting

Oh Sal, I love your plans to go SF, I have family living in San Rafael (across the bay) and spent a fantastic Christmas there while I lived in the USA (in the midwest, not NY) before arriving here. I remember looking out the window when I woke up and seeing a deer in the garden . They also attracted humming birds at their bird feeder.

Ellie, I seem to also have the knack of being off when everyone else is on - how is the sleeping going?

I managed to get DP out of bed and walking DS back to sleep early this morning, but still had a terrible night myself with several wakings for feeding and coughing and gasping for air (DS, not me). He sounds quite wheezey, but I've been checking his temp and it isn't rising. And again, he's in good spirits, so will just hope my antibodies will help him sooner than later.

LongJohnSqualor · 20/09/2008 22:50

Sal, I've been dead poorly the last few days, throwing my guts up but trying to pretend I don't feel ill because it's the christening tomorrow.

Also found out today the internet isn't even our bloody net so it's been on for over a week, but is someone else's contract so we will have another week without net access soon

LadyBee · 20/09/2008 23:07

Oh dear VS/LJS, I hope you make it through the christening tomorrow without feeling too awful. When I was at the HV last week they mentioned there had been a lot of stomach flu around - guess they were right

SalLikesCoffee · 21/09/2008 11:29

VS, that's awful! Hope you feel better by now so that you could enjoy the Christening.

Here all are now lovely and snotty. It's going to be a long week...

PortAndLemon · 21/09/2008 14:41

Hello! Back from holiday now and will try to catch up with thread...

SalLikesCoffee · 21/09/2008 15:20

Hey PAL, welcome back! Had a good holiday?
