Love the wallpaper, I think the light fitting may be a bit bright for a bedroom, mind u i suppose u could put tinted bulbs in

SalLikesCoffee · 16/09/2008 18:13

hmm true - didn't think about that... might look for alternitive light fitting - not really that keen on tinted bulbs, but would have to with that, true. well, i quite like the search, so i'll continue

Denny185 · 16/09/2008 19:15

How about this one not as elegant as the one you saw though

Denny185 · 16/09/2008 19:17

or this?

Denny185 · 16/09/2008 19:18

this ones quite nice

Denny185 · 16/09/2008 19:24

really like this one but wont go with that wallpaper and I should go and do some tidying up and stop avoiding it!

This is where you come on and say none of the links work and Im technologically inept.

Denny185 · 16/09/2008 19:26

Havnt gone yet, theres a surprise, or you could use low wattage energy efficient bulbs they always seem to be a bit dimmer.

SalLikesCoffee · 16/09/2008 19:30

oooh cool denny, thanks for this!!! I'll go and look at your links now - just wanted to rescue you from cleaning first!

Denny185 · 16/09/2008 19:35

Still here, just slumped lower down in the chair so despite the best of intentions i dont think Im moving for a while

SalLikesCoffee · 16/09/2008 19:38

LOVE the last one, even so much that I'm considering a change in wallpaper... Will look around.

Not that keen on second one for that room, 3rd one ok but chrome, so won't go with wallpaper.
With current wallpaper 1st one best, not sure about the shades, but can see why I need it right above our head, so will see if I can get used to it. I completely forgot about John Lewis doing lights, thanks!

Denny185 · 16/09/2008 19:42

Your welcome, now b4 i start looking at wallpaper too I really must get some work done, boo, hiss.

SalLikesCoffee · 16/09/2008 19:43

Hehehe. Oh ok then [throws hissy fit about real life calling]

EllieG · 16/09/2008 20:07

Ok, so I am a bad, bad MNer recently, who never posts, or posts and rushes off, but I still love you all honest, and I am tired and miserable and need some advice please!

DD is waking at night - not hungry, just wakes - Ping - and doesn't go back to sleep for 2 hours. She isn't upset, or dirty, or wet, cos I check it all, just very very awake. I have tried picking her up, leaving her, nowt works. She doesn't cry for the first hour, just noodles around in her cot, and then grizzles and cries until she gets back to sleep. She wants to be rocked, won't be put down. But how do I stop it? Does anyone have any ideas about how to get her to sleep when she isn't waking for hunger or discomfort, but just is awake? I am soooooo tired and last night was so miserable and angry I had to put her down and went and jumped on my bed and punched my pillow and cried

What to do please ladies? When she does this she is so tired the next day and it buggers up everything. I am already thinking though that will not let her sleep in as I think it then interferes with her sleep pattern and mucks up further.

Sorry for moaning.

DonDons · 16/09/2008 20:22

Ellie - how much does she sleep during the day?

SalLikesCoffee · 16/09/2008 20:30

Hey Ellie. No advice here (Rubbish Sleepers Anonymous), but sympathies.

All that I know (or have read - obviously doesn't work that well here!) is that you shouldn't not let them nap during the day, as they then get so overtired that they can't sleep for decent blocks.

EllieG · 16/09/2008 20:31

It depends - when she has a bad night she is so overtired that she finds it hard to go down to sleep in the day. Today I took her out all day rather than fight it out in her cot, as knew would be better in car and pushchair. As a general rule though she is not great at sleeping in day - will have morning nap of 30-40 mins, which is fine, then on good day will do same at lunchtime and afternoon. On bad day will only have one nap maybe, when finally flakes out with tiredness poor mite.

EllieG · 16/09/2008 20:33

Ta sal - maybe we should have a support group? . We could meet up and say 'My name's ... and my child doesn't sleep. Ever.'

Someone told me today that this means she is obviously very intelligent. Cold comfort, thinks me, I would rather have a thicko at this point.

DonDons · 16/09/2008 20:43

hmmn, well I believe that they need about 3 hours of sleep during the day at this age to avoid over-tiredness and to help them sleep at night. DD has 45 mins in the morning 9-9.45 and then 2hr 15 (ish from 12.30 (but if she has less than this she has another short nap in the afternoon about 4.30 ish).

Some days it doesn't work out like this but to get her to sleep I just try to keep talking to a minimum, darken the room, give her a cuddle and lay her down then say 'night night' etc. If she cries I will leave her for up to 5 minutes to cry it out but then go in and check everything. If she absoultley refuses to sleep then she lays on the sofa with me (and whatever crap is on C4) in her grobag - again keeping talking to a minimum - and she will usually nod off after 20 minutes or so.

Not really sure I can help..hope things improve

EllieG · 16/09/2008 20:55

Thanks dondons - I think I will try the grobag sofa trick - at moment if she doesn't sleep I go 'Fine! Don't then!' and get her up and play with her so she isn't getting much poor mite

SalLikesCoffee · 16/09/2008 21:05

at thicko wishes. Official support group meeting: "My name's ... and my child doesn't sleep. Ever. But he / she is of course bloody brilliant (if hugely slightly annoying at 3am)"

In all honesty, it sounds like over tiredness to me. Roelof's sleeping (or lack thereof) gets worse if he didn't have his proper naps during the day. I don't have set hours, but as soon as he starts rubbing his eyes I take him to his cot and he's normally asleep within 10 minutes.

Denny185 · 16/09/2008 21:25

After last night I dont think Im in any position to give sleep advice. DD2 woke at 3.20 and finally went back to sleep at 6.40, partly my fault as I would only offer a bottle as didnt really think she was hungry and no surprise she wouldnt take it!

Normally I would say same as Dondons, try and get into good sleep behaviours during the day while your awake and its less irksome than the middle of the night. I try and put to bed after shes been up 4 a couple of hours b4 overtired. Put down awake, kiss, say goodnight and pull down music thingy, leave to winge self to sleep, return to put blanket over once asleep (i do this day or night sleep, only diff with night feed is she is fed just b4 putting down). Normally first nap will be short one and second longer.

If crying during night and not hunger/pain etc I would try the ignore and place pillow over head [bad mummy emoticon] even better place in different room [terrible mummy, he he]

EllieG · 17/09/2008 11:15

LOL at denny and pillow use

Well she did a bit better last night, still woke up but got self back to sleep hurrah! So I feel less like a zombie.

Wouldn't go down for nap this morning - went to sleep and PING! awake.

So am taking out for a walk. Hey ho. Baby steps. Literally.

SalLikesCoffee · 17/09/2008 11:35

Glad to hear your night was better, Ellie! I'd be quite happy (or not really, but will survive) if a bad night is followed by a good one. It's the continues ones that makes me grunt and silently swear sigh.

Dh came home late last night after too much wine (he swears it was two glasses during the whole evening and that he's just out of practice ), and in his state not even R's cries could wake him up, so I did all night. Now, while I wanted to get really annoyed, I realised that he doesn't actually have to help me at night, so it spoiled the fun of a potential sulk on my side... We got up at 5 this morning as he had to fly early, and I had this master plan of having a big lie-in with Roelof later. However, as soon as we were both snuggled up and he fell asleep, the stupid neighbour called and he woke up. Urgh!!! Fair enough, there was no way she could know, but I'm annoyed anyway, justified or not.

Dh wanted to know if I'm in today, as he has a delivery for me... Hmm, the suspense, wonder what it is

Peachy · 17/09/2008 18:32

Hello all- just a quick stop in.

Bas being a night demon atm- in the last 3 nights I havre totalled 9 hours sleep - am shatered!

he is however now crawling abit in reverse- clever kid! and he is now on 9th centile so out of the worry zone- he's gaining a centile and a pund a fortnigt lol

must be all that good food. salmon with butternut and celeriac mash anyone?

LadyBee · 17/09/2008 20:23

mmm, sounds nice Peachy, I'm in!

I've been making notes from the healthy sleep book which I'll post after this once I ready them through to see whether they actually make some sense. But only if you all swear not to think that I'm posting it because I actually do this or believe it to be gospel. I'm knackered too, even from just two night feedings but also because DS was very clingy and cry-y today and his naps were all over the show again today.

Went to baby clinic today to see whether weight loss last week was a blip. It was, sort of, he's gained back but is still dropping against the curve. We're going to get some baby rice in so at least I can read the instructions on the packet, and see what happens next week. DS is sitting independently of me, grabbing for my food, shoving the calpol spoon in his mouth, has a good grip and brings things to his mouth easily, so I feel reasonably confident that he's ready, but am not entirely sure I am .

Yesterday I went to a park and met up with my antenatal group in mummy central - it was hilarious. I've never really seen a 'school run' before, but this park is between two schools and a nursery and we were there at pick-up time, and there were just table after table of mums with buggies and children of all ages. I was feeling particularly scummy as hadn't showered and had just flung a t-shirt on with my jeans but fortunately we sat outside and it was chilly so was wearing a coat and scarf so could disguise feebleness of outfit until I had to feed, and then DS did a good job of covering. I now understand what is meant by 'school run dress'. There was a definite 'look' at that park. . Anyway, it was good to know where it was, as there's a centre close by that does lots of activities that I've wondered whether it was within public transport or easy parking, and it has both

right, will try to get these sleep notes up...
