Thanks LadyBee!

EllieG · 15/09/2008 10:47

'Lo all. Mol about to cry so no time but hello anyway and will catch up later hopefully.

TheShipsCat · 15/09/2008 11:04

Welcome back Scorpio and MommyHaH - glad you had good holidays!

Sorry to hear times are tough, OMa...I know from bitter experience how hard it is when DH never sees the dds. He never gets in before bedtime, and leaves before they get up, and its tough on everyone. And we are both starting to feel so chronically tired, I can't see how I am ever going to recover...guess you are feeling the same. We had a couple of shit nights over the weekend, so of course have started this week feeling rough. Hope you manage to get some sleep soon.

We're off on the train now to go and see cranial osteopath again who is trying to make A look less weird. Not quite sure if its working yet...

SalLikesCoffee · 15/09/2008 13:20

Morning all.

Suze, just checked the news for updates. Dammit. Your dh will find something else quickly though - even in resession (or sometimes especially then) existing companies need people who are exceptionally good at what they do. I can imagine it's stressful time, so thinking of your family.

For stuffy noses I also recommend saline drops (in combination with kids Olbas already mentioned). To be honest I think those "nose sucker" things might actually work better, but Roelof screams the roof down when I try, so I use saline drops and it works really well. Also (but I don't use this at the same time as Olbas, but might be fine), if his chest is a little tight, I rub him in with Snuffle Babe (I think - the baby equivalent of Vicks).

Ladybee, might book dh in for one of those flotation sessions. Not sure if he'd be overjoyed, but I'll go with him. He's doing so much for me with Roelof even though he works really hard and has a lot of stress, so I want to help him. At the moment my best offer is back massages, hehehe.

LadyBee · 15/09/2008 14:04

Nice idea, Sal. DP came with me to my first session, he was really dubious about it but came out converted. Best to do on the weekend though, as it's better not to shave on the same day as the float (v.v. salty water, ouch!). It's nicely done, very private. Each floatation 'pod' is in a private foom, with a shower in there, so you just lock the door, have your shower, jump in and stay there til they start playing music to tell you your session is over. You even get to choose your music (from a range of suitably whale-noise and pan-pipe new age stuff, but hey).

DS hates both saline drops and the snot sucker thing, but saline drops are at least over pretty quickly. I can do the snot sucker thing maybe once before he remembers what it is and starts squirming. I'm such a wuss too, don't want to hold him down and do it, even though he's much happier afterwards.
I'm going to be useless when it comes to getting splinters out of fingers etc.

LadyBee · 15/09/2008 14:08

ok ladies, I'm about to launch into a 'top tips' email for my friend who is due tomorrow and wants reassuring advice.

What would you say to a first-timer, wish someone had said to you - both regarding labour and the first few weeks. Actions and products both welcome!

Denny185 · 15/09/2008 14:29

Dont bother buying little oufits, just sleepsuits and vests

Denny185 · 15/09/2008 14:29

Hello all BTW, sorry 4 those having crappy times will post properly later.

LadyBee · 15/09/2008 14:40

I'm combing through the childbirth thread - haven't been there for a while , it's so odd reading it all again. Arrrggggh I'm soooooo broody.

SalLikesCoffee · 15/09/2008 15:50

Ok, firstly and most importantly - don't rely on dh to bring the "going home outfit". R drowned in his, hehehe.

To take that I didn't think about:

  • Wipes and powder for yourself - I felt sweaty and was glad to be able to at least refresh a little before visitors came (though, I used babywipes, so she'll probably have that anyway). (They only washed me the next morning and I was convinced I smell - thinking back, I might as well got used to not-so-fragrant moments from then onwards ).

  • Scratch mitts. I didn't take any with, and R was a scratcher from the start. Luckily my best friend visited the same evening and she brought some with her (brilliant timing!)

  • Depending on how long she has to stay in - a book that requires no concentration at all.

  • Big knickers in black. (Not those horrible disposable ones - but cheap ones that you can throw away later anyway.)

SalLikesCoffee · 15/09/2008 20:00

Where's everyone today?

Suze, have been thinking of you all day.

Denny185 · 15/09/2008 20:38
  • dont bother to buy baby lotion/talc etc
Denny185 · 15/09/2008 20:39

lansinoh a definate

Denny185 · 15/09/2008 20:55

Suze - Really sorry about your husbands job, fingers crossed that he manages to find something else soon. Must be a really stressful time.

Oma - Its alreadt been said but really could u get DD2 in nursery with DD1 for just one morning a week to catch up on some sleep. Your going to end up crashing if you try and keep going like this.

Welcome back Scorpio and MHAH glad you both had good holidays

Well been busy doing nothing in particular here, DD1 lost her first tooth last week, made me feel quite ill, cant believe where time is going.

We took them to Gullivers at the weekend, Dh took them on the pirate ship, DS (2 and only just tall enough to go on) absolutely loved it laughed all the way through but poor DD1 just had a look of sheer terror and at its peak she started crying. Needless to say she didnt go anywhere near the rollercoaster. DD2 and I spent a lot of time watching as she wasnt even allowed on the train, children have to sit on the seats not laps. Never mind a great day was had and it was sunny - always a bonus.

DD2 is turning into such a giggley baby, she just loves DS and some of the noises and faces he makes. She has started going backwards with her sleep over the last few weeks though, sleeping less hours in a stretch than she was. Still I really cant complain as I havnt joined the more than once a night club, my heart goes out to you girls, Im cream crackered with one waking.

Right Im sure Ive bored you all senseless I shall go clean the kitchen.

SalLikesCoffee · 15/09/2008 21:16

Oh, I haven't done my usual sulk-of-the-day yet: Last night Roelof "slept" from about 8 to 11, fed, and then we stupidly only went to bed at 12... Which is just about when it all went wrong. R kept waking up every 20 mins or so - no nappy needed, didn't want milk, not wind, but seemingly in pain. I tried the teething gel, seemed to help for 10 mins only. At one we gave him Calpol, but no difference. By 2 it got too much and we brought him into bed with us, but he refused to sleep on his own - cue dh "sleeping" on his back with R like a frog spread across his chest until 6. Tried putting him next to him a couple of times, but didn't work! I hope we won't have a repeat tonight. Tried hinting that we should go to bed earlier, but as it's my last night with dh (he's got a work function on tomorrow night, so home late), I'm not minding too much that he doesn't want to yet.

Hope it's long and quiet nights for all tonight.

SuzeM · 15/09/2008 21:43

Sal and OMa, hope you get some more sleep tonight.

DD still has a cough but is in good form. Should I take her to the GP in case she has a chest infection?

DH is a bit shocked but hopeful they will at least receive their final paycheck. He said DD cheered him up though. I am going to try to find a contract, and he can mind DD while he is looking for a job. Don't know what the market is like for me though.

Scorpio, I don't think being a SAHM is the lazy option at all!

Ladybee, I highly recommend this spray (especially if your friend has an episiotomy!)

SuzeM · 15/09/2008 21:46

MommyHasaHeadache, we were in Como this time last year, it is so lovely. I hoped I'd bump into George Clooney but unfortunately he was nowhere to be seen.

SalLikesCoffee · 15/09/2008 21:55

Suze, glad to hear DH sounds ok under the circumstances. Would be great if you could get a contract, and on the upside he'll get to spend some decent time with DD while looking for a job, which they can never do while working long hours. Not trying to dismiss how horrible I can imagine it must be, but maybe this could be one positive aspect.

I HAVE to ask - what does that spray do??? And where do you spray it?? I just lol'd at the name. No, I can't wait, I'm googling it now

LadyBee · 15/09/2008 21:58

it's gutting when they go backwards isn't it? My friend with a 9-week baby has been so happy that she's sleeping from 11-7 recently. I clearly remember DS doing that too, then getting to 3 month growth spurt and then 4 month growth spurt and the whole thing falling to pieces. He's only just started doing fairly good sleeping again but it's so unpredictable, and bedtime can be a complete nightmare. I haven't said any of this to my friend, think she can just enjoy this period while it lasts, and who knows, maybe she'll be lucky

I wonder how VS is getting on with her move?

SalLikesCoffee · 15/09/2008 21:58

That looks really good, actually. If I ever have a vb, I'm def going prepared with this!

LadyBee · 15/09/2008 22:05

love the name of the spray

Denny185 · 15/09/2008 22:16

Goodluck tonight Sal, sounds like last night was a long one.

SalLikesCoffee · 16/09/2008 10:34

Good morning everyone.

Thanks for the wishes Denny - it worked! He woke up at 11, 1, and.... 6! (Might not sound so great, but for us it's brilliant, as he skipped the 3am one.) Ooh, and to make it even better, he slept with me in bed from 7am to 10am! Must have realised it's thin ice that he found himself on

OMaLittle · 16/09/2008 11:38

Hey all, better here too, up at 12.15, 3.45 and 6, but only because I threw caution to the wind and fed her in bed so she only had one boob at each feed. No windy nightmares! WAHOO!

We are going to move her to her room at the weekend, though. She'll be five months, not six, but it seems to be time. I know DH would like to share a bed with me again.

Is anyone else suddenly much hungrier? It might be my food poisoning last week, I guess, but yesterday I literally couldn't stop eating. Tried all the tactics like drinking pints of water and waiting 20 minutes but to no avail. And it's not like I'm doing ANY exercise...

My friend and neighbour (lives opposite but I know her from uni) had a little boy last night! I was SUCH a curtain-twitcher all day, went over and put her TENS on for her at about 7.45am and then didn't see her again so just kept peering out of the window - saw them heading off to hospital at 7.20pm, she was 4cm, waters broke at 10, fully dilated at 10.20, baby born at 11.05! Can't WAIT to see them this afternoon. He was 7lb 2oz so DD2 is going to look enormous!

SalLikesCoffee · 16/09/2008 12:26

Hey, great news Oma!

R's been in his own room for a while now, but we have to rearrange it this weekend, as his cot's against the window. This was fine in summer, because not that warm there, but it's obviously too cold for winter (and against the central heating, so not good anyway). Not sure exactly how we'll make it fit in while still looking half decent, but will just have to do.

We went to B&Q last night for new door bell thing, but I'm now all fired up to redecorate our room. Nothing expensive, just repaint the walls really, but I quite like painting (and sanding for that matter - dh thinks I'm a bit odd about power tools...)
Anyway, what do you guys think about this:
wallpaper for wall behind bed,
dark cream-ish (or whatever funny name they will call it) that blends in with the gold pattern on wallpaper for the other walls,
and something like this for the lighting.

A bit girlie, but dh said he liked the idea (might be because I compromised on everything except my own bathroom - if up to him all the walls will be plain white).

The rest of our flat is relatively small, but our room is a nice size, which is why I'm tempted to do the wallpaper and dramatic light there.

I wanted to redo my bathroom too, but after seeing the price of bathroom white stuff I decided that I'm quite happy with the way it is!
